The direct interfacing of photonic crystal fiber to a metallic nanoantenna has widespread application in nanoscale imaging, optical lithography, nanoscale lasers, quantum communication, in vivo sensing, and medical *** report on the fabrication of a needle-shaped plasmonic nanoantenna on the end facet of a photonic crystal fiber using electron-beam-induced evaporation of platinum. We demonstrate the coupling of light from the fiber waveguide mode to the subwavelength nanoantenna plasmonic mode focusing down to the apex of the plasmonic needle using a polarization-resolved far-field side-scatter imaging technique. Our work provides an important step toward widespread application of optical fibers in nearfield spectroscopic techniques such as tip-enhanced Raman and fluorescence microscopy, single-photon excitation and quantum sensors, nanoscale optical lithography, and lab-on-fiber devices.

Objectives: To study the biometric dimensions of upper front teeth in a hong Kong SAR population including gender differences and compare this with the often recommended use of the Golden Proportion when selecting tooth proportions. Methods: A sample of dental casts was obtained from 100 patients: 50 females and 50 males with an age range from 18 to 35 years. The sample was selected based on the criteria of intact maxillary anterior dental arches, free from imbrications and crowding, no restorations or replaced teeth in the upper front teeth. The width and length of the 600 upper anterior teeth included in the casts were measured, together with the combined upper anterior tooth width for each cast. Analysis of width/height ratio, sexual dimorphism, and golden proportions was statistically analyzed. The data was analysed by SPSS using one-sample t-test, two-sample t-test, and paired t-test. Results: Most measurements had a normal distribution. Paired sample t-test revealed that the average length of male maxillary incisors is significantly higher than female maxillary incisors, while there is no obvious difference in maxillary incisor width. The mean width/length ratio of maxillary incisors ranges from 0.78 to 0.87. The mean values of maxillary apparent tooth width prove that the golden proportion (GP) ratio 1.618 was absent in the current sample. The current study data shows that the mean values of tooth width and length differed from some other populations. Conclusions: Based on the findings of this research, there is no statistically significant difference in the maxillary anterior tooth dimensions for the right and left sides of the arch. Length and width dimensions of the central incisor (CI) were greater than those of lateral incisor (LI) and Canine (C) for both genders, suggesting CI to be the dominant anterior tooth. Monocyte/macrophage lineage cells are highly plastic and can differentiate into various cells under different environmental stimuli. Bone-resorbing osteoclasts are derived from the monocyte/macrophage lineage in response to receptor activator of NF-κB ligand (RANKL). however, the epigenetic signature contributing to the fate commitment of monocyte/macrophage lineage differentiation into human osteoclasts is largely unknown. In this study, we identified RANKL-responsive human osteoclast-specific superenhancers (SEs) and SE-associated enhancer RNAs (SE-eRNAs) by integrating data obtained from ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, nuclear RNA-seq and PRO-seq analyses. RANKL induced the formation of 200 SEs, which are large clusters of enhancers, while suppressing 148 SEs in macrophages. RANKL-responsive SEs were strongly correlated with genes in the osteoclastogenic program and were selectively increased in human osteoclasts but marginally presented in osteoblasts, CD4+ T cells, and CD34+ cells. In addition to the major transcription factors identified in osteoclasts, we found that BATF binding motifs were highly enriched in RANKL-responsive SEs. The depletion of BATF1/3 inhibited RANKL-induced osteoclast differentiation. Furthermore, we found increased chromatin accessibility in SE regions, where RNA polymerase II was significantly recruited to induce the extragenic transcription of SE-eRNAs, in human osteoclasts. Knocking down SE-eRNAs in the vicinity of the NFATc1 gene diminished the expression of NFATc1, a major regulator of osteoclasts, and osteoclast differentiation. Inhibiting BET proteins suppressed the formation of some RANKL-responsive SEs and NFATc1-associated SEs, and the expression of SE-eRNA:NFATc1. Moreover, SE-eRNA:NFATc1 was highly expressed in the synovial macrophages of rheumatoid arthritis patients exhibiting high-osteoclastogenic potential. Two-dimensional materials are generating great interest due to their unique electrical and optical *** particular, transition metal dichalcogenides such as molybdenum disulfide(MoS_2) are attractive materials due to the existence of a direct band gap in the monolayer limit that can be used to enhance nonlinear optical phenomena, such as Raman spectroscopy. Here, we have investigated four-wave mixing processes in bulk MoS_2 using a multiplex coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy setup. The observed four-wave mixing signal has a resonance at approximately 680 nm, corresponding to the energy of the A excitonic transition of MoS_2. This resonance can be attributed to the increased third-order nonlinear susceptibility at wavelengths near the excitonic transition. This phenomenon could open the path to using MoS_2 as a substrate for enhancing four-wave mixing processes such as coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy.

Emerging evidence has suggested that cytoreductive prostatectomy （CRP） allows superior oncologic control when compared to current standard of care androgen deprivation therapy alone. however, the safety and benefit of cytoreduction in metastatic prostate cancer （mPCa） has not been proven. Therefore, we evaluated the incidence of complications following CRP in men newly diagnosed with mPCa. A total of 68 patients who underwent CRP from 2006 to 2014 at four tertiary surgical centers were compared to 598 men who underwent radical prostatectomy for clinically localized prostate cancer （PCa）. Urinary incontinence was defined as the use of any pad. CRP had longer operative times （200 min vs 140 min, P 〈 0.0001） and higher estimated blood loss （250 ml vs 125 ml, P 〈 0.0001） compared to the control group. however, both overall （8.82% vs 5.85%） and major complication rates （4.41% vs 2.17%） were comparable between the two groups. Importantly, urinary incontinence rate at 1-year after surgery was significantly higher in the CRP group （57.4% vs 90.8%, P 〈 0.0001）. Univariate logistic analysis showed that the estimated blood loss was the only independent predictor of perioperative complications both in the unadjusted model （OR： 1.18; 95% Ch 1.02-1.37; P= 0.025） and surgery type-adjusted model （OR： 1.17; 95% Ch 1.01-1.36; P= 0.034）. In conclusion, CRP is more challenging than radical prostatectomy and associated with a notably higher incidence of urinary incontinence. Nevertheless, CRP is a technically feasible and safe surgery for selecting PCa patients who present with node-positive or bony metastasis when performed by experienced surgeons. A prospective, multi-institutional clinical trial is currently underway to verify this concept.

地震是一种会对人类社会带来巨大影响的自然灾害。地震时释放出的能量及地震波会在土地中运动并有传播到城市周围的潜在可能。许多商业及民用建筑会因此受到严重影响,城市经济也会因为地震的发生受到预期外的打击。商业建筑和城市基础建设是社会经济发展的基础,因此遭遇巨大灾害时的建筑损失,恢复时间,经济打击的预测对灾害后的经济重建非常重要。建筑损失预测也可以帮助政府和商户提前预估经济损失,计算建筑重建时间,甚至制定更有效的风险规避计划。停减产损失框架可被用来解决上述问题,但是此框架尚未确定其需要输入的预测方法。为了估算停减产损失,本篇论文研究了首先如何预测建筑损失和恢复时间,然后再使用预测数据输入到停减产损失框架来预测停减产损失。并对结果进行了敏感度分析,以测试不同数据输入对预测建筑物损失,恢复时间和停减产损失的重要性。Regional Workflow for Hazard and Loss Estimation（rWHALE）为主要实验框架具体预测分析建筑损失数据。论文中进一步使用灵敏度测试来研究预测建筑数据的输入与停减产损失框架分析准确度之间的关联。本论文以2008年汶川地震为实际案例分析来验证实验数据的可信性,即通过输入2008年汶川当地建筑数据,运用rWHALE框架生成预测数据,最终通过BIL停减产框架预测出当地建筑,包括住宅,基础建设,生产制造产业,和商业建筑,在地震中会受到的损失以及预计产业恢复时间。本篇论文的研究目标通过停减产损失框架的运用和分析得以实现。虽然预测结果的准确度不是很高,但在考虑现有数据和限制的基础上,预测结果属于可接受的范围内。本文分析结果的主要局限性在于,最初收集的用于预测的数据准确度不高。文中也详细解释了导致预测准确度不高的其他原因。本研究的主要数据来源为问卷调查,大部分收集到的数据是基于调查对象的记忆以及有限的公共资源。从研究结果角度出发,rWHALE框架提供了准确度较低的生产商业建筑预测数据,然而停减产框架输出的最终预测结果提供了较高的准确度,由此可见建筑损失对生产制造产业并不是一个很大的影响因素,其他包括在停减产框架中的数据分析如人工或器械会对生产制造产业带来比建筑损失更大的影响。更进一步的分析停减产数据模型将需要更准确的数据及更加了解对框架中的其他输入数据对预测结果准确度的影响。

Structural stability of methane hydrate at high pressures

The structural stability of methane hydrate under pressure at room temperature was examined by both in-situ single-crystal and powder X-ray diffraction techniques on samples with structure types I, II, and H in diamond-anvil ceils. The diffraction data for types II （slI） and H （sh） were refined to the known structures with space groups Fd3m and P63/mmc, respectively. Upon compression, sl methane hydrate transforms to the sll phase at 120 MPa, and then to the sh phase at 600 MPa. The slI methane hydrate was found to coexist locally with sI phase up to 500 MPa and with sh phase up to 600 MPa. The pure sh structure was found to be stable between 600 and 900 MPa. Methane hydrate decomposes at pressures above 3 GPa to form methane with the orientationally disordered Fm3m structure and ice VII （Pn3m）. The results highlight the role of guest （CH4）-host （H2O） interactions in the stabilization of the hydrate structures under pressure.
