Objective:To investigate the antioxidative and antidiabetic effects of Harpephyllum caffrum bark infusion as well as its effects on glucogenic and nucleotide hydrolyzing enzyme activities in FeSO4-induced oxidative stress in rat hepatic ***:Harpephyllum caffrum infusion was prepared from dried plant materials(40 g)infused in boiling water(400 mL)for 20 min at room *** antioxidative and inhibitory activities against carbohydrate digestive enzymes of the infusion were determined using established *** liver tissues of rats were used for glucose uptake assay and to evaluate the infusion’s effect on endogenous antioxidant,glucogenic,and nucleotide hydrolyzing enzyme activities in FeSO4-induced hepatic ***:The Harpephyllum caffrum infusion significantly reduced ferric iron(FRAP)and free radicals(OH•and DPPH)in a dose-dependent *** inhibitedα-amylase andα-glucosidase activities and increased glucose uptake in hepatic ***4 significantly decreased glutathione concentration,catalase,and superoxide dismutase activities while increasing malondialdehyde level,glycogen phosphorylase,fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase,and adenosine triphosphatase ***,treatment with Harpephyllum caffrum infusion reversed FeSO4-induced *** of the infusion revealed the presence of catechol,O-pyrocatechuic acid,mequinol,maltol,and glycoside ***:The Harpephyllum caffrum infusion demonstrates antidiabetic and antioxidative potentials in in vitro models of type 2 diabetes as depicted by its ability to inhibit carbohydrate digestive enzymes,mitigate oxidative imbalance,and regulate glucogenic and nucleotide hydrolyzing enzyme activities in oxidative hepatic injury.

Experimental and modeling study of de novo formation of PCDD/PCDF on MSW fly ash

The effect of sulfur dioxide （SO2） on the formation of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins （PCDDs） and polychlorinated dibenzofurans （PCDFs） has been studied in an entrained-flow reactor （EFR） under simulated waste combustion conditions. A chlorination model based on conditional probability was employed to evaluate the homologue patterns of PCDDs and PCDFs. Results revealed that the presence of SO2 did not alter the formation pathway although SO2 suppressed PCDD/F formation. The prediction model of PCDF showed good agreement with the experimental data （R--0.95）, whereas the prediction for PCDDs did not correlate well with the experimental data. This may be explained because potential chlorination pathways play a significant role in PCDF formation, whereas PCDDs are mainly formed through condensation reactions. Furthermore, the result indicated that the steric hindrance during formation has more effects on PCDD than on PCDF due to the symmetric molecular structures of PCDDs.

Magnetic relaxation behavior of a spatially closed dysprosium（Ⅲ） phthalocyaninato double-decker complex

The SMM properties of the spatially closed Dy(Ⅲ) double-decker Pc complex Dy(obPc)2(1), which is equivalent to a pseudo dinuclear complex, are reported. Complex 1 crystallized with ethanol in the crystal lattice in the monoclinic space group P21/n and was isomorphous with Tb(obPc)2 (3), which is arranged in a dimer structure along the b axis. The intermetallic Dy-Dy distance was determined to be 0.756 nm. χMT versus T plots for 1 decreased with a decrease in T, which suggests the existence of an antiferromagnetic (AF) interaction between the Dy3+ions. The M-H curve for 1 at 1.8 k showed magnetic hysteresis. In ac susceptibility measurements on a powder sample of 1, which were dependent on the applied ac field, indicating that 1 is an single molecule magnet (SMM), a maximum appeared at 22 k at an ac frequency (f) of 1488 Hz. The shape of the peaks drastically changed, and the peaks did not shift when an Hdclarge enough to suppress the quantum tunneling of the magnetization (QTM) was applied. The energy barrier (Δ/ηχ) was estimated to be 44 cm-1with a pre-exponential factor (τt0) of 1.6 × 10-5s from an Arrhenius plot. Our results suggest that the SMM/magnetic properties of 1 significantly change in a dc magnetic field. These relaxation mechanisms are related to the energy gap of the ground state and to QTM.

Biochar applications influence soil physical and chemical properties,microbial diversity,and crop productivity:a meta-analysis

Biochar is a widely known soil *** we synthesize the available information on influence of biochar application on different soil properties and crop productivity using *** data on influence of biochar applications on different soil physical,chemical,microbial properties,and crop productivity were extracted from literature and statistically *** on selection criteria,59 studies from the literature published between 2012 and 2021 were selected for the *** were developed between effect size of biochar application on different soil properties and crop *** of biochar increased soil pH,cation exchange capacity,and organic carbon by 46%,20%,and 27%,respectively,with greater effects in coarse and fine-textured *** on chemical properties were variable among biochar prepared from different *** physical properties,biochar application reduced bulk densities by 29%and increased porosity by 59%.Biochar prepared at higher pyrolytic temperatures(>500℃)improved bulk density and porosity to greater extents(31%and 66%,respectively).Biochar prepared at lower pyrolytic temperatures(<500℃)had a greater effect on microbial diversity(both bacterial and fungal),with more diverse bacterial populations in medium and coarse textured soils,while fungal diversity increased in fine textured *** applications increased crop productivity only in fine and coarse textured *** effect size of biochar application on crop productivity was correlated with responses to physical properties of *** meta-analysis highlighted the need to conduct long-term field experiments to provide better explanations for changes in biochar properties as it undergoes aging,its longer-term effects on soil properties,and timing of re-application of different biochars.

Evidence of proteins, chromosomes and chemical markers of DNA in exceptionally preserved dinosaur cartilage

A histological ground-section from a duck-billed dinosaur nestling(Hypacrosaurus stebingeri) revealed microstructures morphologically consistent with nuclei and chromosomes in cells within calcified *** hypothesized that this exceptional cellular preservation extended to the molecular level and had molecular features in common with extant avian cartilage. Histochemical and immunological evidence supports in situ preservation of extracellular matrix components found in extant cartilage, including glycosaminoglycans and collagen type II. Furthermore, isolated Hypacrosaurus chondrocytes react positively with two DNA intercalating stains. Specific DNA staining is only observed inside the isolated cells, suggesting endogenous nuclear material survived fossilization. Our data support the hypothesis that calcified cartilage is preserved at the molecular level in this Mesozoic material, and suggest that remnants of once-living chondrocytes, including their DNA, may preserve for millions of years.

The effectiveness of mI SMART:A nurse practitioner led technology intervention for multiple chronic conditions in primary care

Sedimentology and Chronology of Paleogene Coarse Clastic Rocks in East-Central Tibet and Their Relationship to Early Tectonic Uplift

A systematic sedimentological and chronological study of typical Paleogene basins in eastcentral Tibet suggests that the depositional characteristics of extensively developed huge-bedded, purplish-red coarse clastic rocks formed in a tectonic setting of regional thrusting and strike-slipping represent a typical dry and hot subaerial alluvial fan environment formed in a proximal and rapidaccumulating sediment body in debris flows and a fan-surface braided river. Combining results from basin-fill sequences, sequences of coarse clastic rocks, fauna and sporo-pollen associations and thermochronological data, it is conduded that the coarse clastic rocks formed in the period of 54.2- 24.1 Ma, nearly coeval with the formation of Paleogene basins in the northern （Nangqen-Yushu thrust belt）, middle （Batang-Lijiang fault belt）, and disintegration of large basins in the southern （LanpingSimao fold belt） segments of Tibet. The widespread massive-bedded coarse clastic rocks, fold thrusting and strike-slip, thrust shortening, and igneous activities in the Paleogene basins of eastcentral Tibet indicate that an early diachronous tectonic uplift might have occurred in the Tibetan Plateau from Middle Eocene to Oligocene, related to the initial stage of collision of the Indian and Asian plates.

Use of doppler ultrasound to predict need for transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt revision

BACkGROUND Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt(TIPS)is used to treat complications of portal hypertension,such as ascites and variceal bleeding(VB).While liver doppler ultrasound(DUS)is used to assess TIPS patency,trans-shunt venography(TSV)is the gold *** To determine the accuracy of DUS to assess TIPS dysfunction and for need for *** Retrospective review of patients referred for TIPS revision from ***,DUS parameters at baseline and at the DUS preceding TIPS revision,TSV data were *** operating characteristics curves,sensitivity,specificity,performance for doppler to predict need for revision were *** and multivariate analyses were used to predict clinical factors associated with need for TIPS *** The cohort consisted of 89 patients with cirrhosis(64%men,76%white,31%alcohol as etiology);median age 59 *** for initial TIPS were VB(41%),refractory ascites(51%),and other(8%).TIPS was revised in 44%.On univariate analysis,factors associated with need for TIPS revision were male(P=0.03),initial indication for TIPS(P=0.05)and indication for revision(P=0.01).Revision of TIPS was associated with lower mortality(26%vs 46%)and significantly lower rates of transplant(13%vs 24%;P=0.1).In predicting need for TIPS revision,DUS has a 40%sensitivity,45%specificity,PPV 78%,and NPV 14%.The most accurate location for shunt velocity measure was distal velocity(Area under the curve:0.79;P=0.0007).CONCLUSION DUS has poor overall sensitivity and specificity in predicting need for TIPS ***-invasive methods of predicting TIPS dysfunction are needed since those needing TIPS revision had better survival.
