Introduction Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is currently the fifth most common cancer globally,accounting for the third highest cancer-related deaths(1).Liver resection is the treatment modality of choice for resectable HCCs with adequate liver function in the absence of portal hypertension(1),but actuarial recurrence rates remain as high as 70%at 5 years post-resection(2).The recurrence of HCC post-resection portends poorer prognosis,with a 24%reduction in 5-year survival(2).While there have been a multitude of guidelines for the management of primary HCC across the world(3),the international expert consensus recently published by Wen et *** the first systematic,evidence-based consensus guidelines for the management of recurrent HCC(RHCC)following liver resection(4).

Chlorine-based sanitizers have seen wide spread use in food sanitation. The reaction of chlorine species with organic matter is a concern for two reasons. Available chlorine can be “used up” by organic compounds resulting in a lower amount of chlorine available for disinfection. Another concern is that some forms of chlorine can react with some organic compounds to form toxic halogenated disinfection byproducts（DBPs）. Many studies have been conducted to evaluate the role of hypochlorous acid（HOCl） and hypochlorite ion（OCl–） in the production of DBPs with a particular interest in the production of trihalomethanes（THMs） and haloacetic acids（HAAs）. Since most of the chlorine reactions are pH dependent, pH is found to have a significant effect on the formation of chlorine DBPs. In many cases, the concentration of THMs decreases and HAAs increases as pH decreases. pH also plays an important role in the determination of the type and amount of DBPs formed, with lower, more acidic, pHs resulting in the formation of less chloroform. This review summarizes the information from the literature on the role of chlorine-based sanitizers as affected by pH in the formation of different types of DBPs. Alternative novel strategies to minimize the formation of DBPs are also discussed.

Effect of genetic sources on anatomical, morphological,and mechanical properties of 14-year-old genetically improved loblolly pine families from two sites in the southern United States

Tree improvement programs on loblolly pine(Pinus taeda) in the southeastern USA has focused primarily on improving growth, form, and disease ***, due to the recent reduction of design values for visually graded southern yellow pine lumber(including loblolly pine), attention has been drawn to the material quality of genetically improved loblolly pine. In this study,we used the time-of-flight(TOF) acoustic tool to assess the effect of genetic families on diameter, slenderness, fiber length, microfibril angle(MFA), velocity and dynamic stiffness estimated using green density(DMOEG) and basic density(DMOEB) of 14-year-old loblolly pine stands selected from two sites. All the 184 and 204 trees of the selected eight half-sib genetic families on sites 1 and 2 respectively were tested using TOF acoustic tool, and two 5 mm core samples taken at breast height level(1.3 m)used to for the anatomical and physical properties *** results indicated a significant positive linear relationship between dynamic MOEs(DMOEGand DMOEB)versus tree diameter, slenderness, and fiber length while dynamic MOEs negatively but nonsignificant correlated with MFA. While there was no significant difference in DMOEBbetween sites; velocity 2 for site 1 was significantly higher than site 2 but DMOEGwas higher for site 2 than site 1. Again, the mean DMOEGand DMOEBreported in the present study presents a snapshot of the expected static MOE for green and 12% moisture conditions respectively for loblolly pine. Furthermore, there were significant differences between families for most of the traits measured and this suggests that forest managers have the opportunity to select families that exhibit the desired fiber morphology for final product performance. Lastly,since the dynamic MOE based on green density(DMOEG),basic density(DMOEB) and velocity 2 present difference conclusions, practitioners of this type of acoustic technique should take care when extrapolating results across the site

The SMM properties of the spatially closed Dy（Ⅲ） double-decker Pc complex Dy（obPc）2 （1）, which is equivalent to a pseudo dinuclear complex, are reported. Complex 1 crystallized with ethanol in the crystal lattice in the monoclinic space group P22/n and was isomorphous with Tb（obPc）2 （3）, which is arranged in a dimer structure along the b axis. The intermetallic Dy-Dy distance was determined to be 0.756 nm. ZMT versus T plots for 1 decreased with a decrease in T, which suggests the existence of an antiferromagnetic （AF） interaction between the Dy3＋ ions. The M-H curve for 1 at 1.8 k showed magnetic hysteresis. In ac susceptibility measurements on a powder sample of 1, which were dependent on the applied ac field, indicating that 1 is an single molecule magnet （SMM）, a maximum appeared at 22 k at an ac frequency 09 of 1488 Hz. The shape of the peaks dras- tically changed, and the peaks did not shift when an Hd~ large enough to suppress the quantum tunneling of the magnetization （QTM） was applied. The energy barrier （A/hc） was estimated to be 44 cm-1 with a pre-exponential factor （r0） of 1.6 × 10-5 s from an Arrhenius plot. Our results suggest that the SMM/magnetic properties of 1 significantly change in a dc magnetic field. These relaxation mechanisms are related to the energy gap of the ground state and to QTM.

Turbulent flow, the transpor＇t of inclusions and bubbles, and inclusion removal by fluid flow, transport and by bubble flotation in the strand of the continuous slab caster are investigated using computational models, and validated through comparison with plant measurements of inclusions. Steady 3-D flow of steel in the liquid pool in the mold and upper strand is simulated with a finitedifference computational model using the standard k-εturbulence rondel. Trajectories of inclusions and bubhles tire calculated by integrating each local velocity, considering its drag and buoyancy forces, A ＂random walk＂ model is used to incorporate the effect of turbulent fluctuations on the particle motion. The attachment probability of inclusions on a bubble surface is investigated based on fundamental fluid flow simulations, incorporating the turbulent inclusion trajectory and sliding time of each individual inclusion along the bubble surface as a function of particle and bubble size. The chunge in inclusion distribution due to removal by bubble transport in the mold is calculated based on the computed attachment probability of inclusions on each bubble and the computed path length of the bubbles. The results indicate that 6%-10% inclusions are removed by fluid flow transport. 10% by bubble flotation, and 4% by entrapment to the submerged entry nozzle （SEN） walls. Smaller bubbles and larger inclusions have larger attachment probabilities. Smaller bubbles are more efficient for inclusion removal by bubble flotation, so Inng as they are not entrapped in the solidifying shell A larger gas flow rate favors inclusion removal by bubble flotation. The optimum bubble size should be 2-4mm.

kisspeptin （kp） is synthesized in the arcuate nucleus and preoptic area of the hypothalamus and is a regulator of gonadotropin releasing hormone in the hypothalamus. In addition, kp may regulate additional functions such as increased neuropeptide Y gene expression and reduced proopiomelanocortin （POMC） gene expression in sheep. Other studies have found a role for kp to release growth hormone （GH）, prolactin and luteinizing hormone （LH） from cattle, rat and monkey pituitary cells. Intravenous injection of kp stimulated release LH, GH, prolactin and follicle stimulating hormone in some experiments in cattle and sheep, but other studies have failed to find an effect of peripheral injection of kp on GH release. Recent studies indicate that kp can stimulate GH release after intracerebroventricular injection in sheep at doses that do not release GH after intravenous injection. These studies suggest that kp may have a role in regulation of both reproduction and metabolism in sheep. Since GH plays a role in luteal development, it is tempting to speculate that the ability of kp to release GH and LH is related to normal control of reproduction.
