Oral herbal Medicines for Psoriasis:A Review of Clinical Studies

Various forms of complementary and alternative medicine are used in *** these,herbal medicines are frequently used as systemic and/or topical interventions either as a replacement for or in conjunction with conventional *** benefit of such use is *** review is to provide an up-to-date review and discussion of the clinical evidence for the main kinds of herbal therapies for *** of the biomedical databases PubMed（including MEDLINE）, EMBASE and CINAhL were conducted in December 2011 which identified 32 clinical studies,all published in *** of these primarily tested topical herbal medicines and were thus *** 12 studies that evaluated systemic use of herbal medicines were included in the *** were case series studies and the other 8 were controlled *** terms of interventions,4 studies tested the systemic use of plant oils combined with marine oils and 8 studies tested multi-ingredient herbal *** clinical evidence for plant and animal derived fatty acids is inconclusive and any benefit appears to be *** the multi-herb formulations,benefits of oral herbal medicines were shown in several studies,however,a number of these studies are not controlled trials,a diversity of interventions are tested and there are methodological issues in the controlled *** conclusion,there is promising evidence in a number of the studies of multi-herb ***,well-designed,adequately powered studies with proper control interventions are needed to further determine the benefits of these *** addition,syndrome differentiation should be incorporated into trial design to ensure effective translation of findings from these studies into Chinese medicine clinical practice.

h_(2)mediated mixed culture microbial electrosynthesis for high titer acetate production from CO_(2)

Microbial electrosynthesis(MES)converts CO_(2)into value-added products such as volatile fatty acids(VFAs)with minimal energy use,but low production titer has limited scale-up and *** electron transfer via h_(2)on the MES cathode has shown a higher conversion rate than the direct biofilm-based approach,as it is tunable via cathode potential control and accelerates electrosynthesis from CO_(2).here we report high acetate titers can be achieved via improved in situ h_(2)supply by nickel foam decorated carbon felt cathode in mixed community MES *** concentration of 12.5 g L^(-1)was observed in 14 days with nickel-carbon cathode at a poised potential of-0.89 V(*** hydrogen electrode,ShE),which was much higher than cathodes using stainless steel(5.2 g L^(-1))or carbon felt alone(1.7 g L^(-1))with the same projected surface area.A higher acetate concentration of 16.0 g L^(-1)in the cathode was achieved over long-term operation for 32 days,but crossover was observed in batch operation,as additional acetate(5.8 g L^(-1))was also found in the abiotic anode *** observed the low Faradaic efficiencies in acetate production,attributed to partial h_(2)utilization for *** selective acetate production with high titer demonstrated in this study shows the h_(2)-mediated electron transfer with common cathode materials carries good promise in MES development.

Evidence-based Clinical Chinese Medicine:What has Changed Over the Past 20 Years

Chinese medicine has been used for centuries to treat a range of health *** history has produced a wealth of classical literature,case studies and clinical research data detailing its use and ***,high-quality and conclusive evidence that meets modern requirements for clinical decision support is *** evidence gap limits the integration of Chinese medicine with contemporary medicine,which in turn limits global access and acceptance of Chinese medicine as a form of safe and effective health *** the past 20 years,researchers and organisations around the world,including the World health Organization(WhO)and United Nations,have worked to support the integration of traditional medicines,such as Chinese medicine,with conventional medicines to improve global health *** paper provides an overview of Chinese medicine studies published in the top four general medical journals(BMJ,JAMA,Lancet and New England Journal of Medicine)from February 2005 to February 2024 in the past 20 years to highlight the progress in the development of this evidence *** also highlights key actions taken to promote evidence-based clinical Chinese medicine,including product and practitioner regulation,formalising education standards,and international *** conducted at the China-Australia International Research Centre for Chinese Medicine demonstrates the benefits of such a *** development of its unique and inclusive‘whole-evidence’approach,plus clinical studies and systematic reviews,the Centre has significantly contributed to the evidence base for clinical Chinese *** addition,its high-impact papers and groundbreaking monographs have been cited in international conventional medicine *** progress has certainly been made during the past 20 years to build a stronger evidence base for clinical Chinese medicine,there is still a considerable gap that limits its integration with conventional medic

BACKGROUND Patients with diabetes mellitus(DM)are predisposed to an increased risk of infection signifying the importance of vaccination to protect against its potentially severe *** Centers for Disease Control and Prevention/Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices(CDC/ACIP)issued immunization recommendations to protect this patient *** To assess the adherence of patients with DM to the CDC/ACIP immunization recommendations in Saudi Arabia and to identify the factors associated with the vaccine adherence *** An observational retrospective study conducted in 2023 was used to collect data on the vaccination records from 13 diabetes care centers in Saudi Arabia with 1000 eligible patients in phase I with data collected through chart review and 709 patients in phase II through online *** Among participants,10.01%(n=71)had never received any vaccine,while 85.89%(n=609)received at least one dose of the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)vaccine,and 34.83%(n=247)had received the annual influenza *** 2.96%(n=21),2.11%(n=15),and 1.12%(n=8)received herpes zoster,tetanus,diphtheria,and pertussis(Tdap),and human papillomavirus(hPV)vaccines,*** patients with DM in Saudi Arabia,the rate of vaccination for annual influenza and COVID-19 vaccines was higher compared to other vaccinations such as herpes zoster,Tdap,pneumococcal,and *** such as vaccine recommendations provided by family physicians or specialists,site of care,income level,DM-related hospitalization history,residency site,hemoglobin A1c(hbA1c)level,and health sector type can significantly influence the vaccination rate in patients with *** non-vaccinated patients with DM,the most reported barriers were lack of knowledge and fear of side *** signifies the need for large-scale research in this area to identify additional factors that might facilitate adherence to CDC/ACIP vaccine recommendations in patients with *** In S

half-metallic ferromagnetism,mechanical as well as thermoelectric properties for rare earth-based spinels Mgho_(2)Z_(4)(Z=S,Se)were investigated using density functional theory(DFT).Structural optimization was done with Perdew-Burke-Ehrenzorf(PBE)sol-generalized gradient approximation(GGA)to calculate the lattice constant of both spinels comparable to experimental *** addition,Born stability criteria and negative formation energy show that our studied spinels are also structurally and dynamically stable in the cubic *** ferromagnetic(FM)state stability,we also calculated the energy differences among FM,antiferromagnetic(AFM),and non-magnetic(NM)***,Curie temperatures of ferromagnetic phases were also *** used Trans-Blaha improved BeckeJohnson(TB-mBJ)potential functional for electronics as well as magnetic characteristics,which lead to the consistent explanation of half-metallic ferromagnetism,representing the whole band-occupancy in material with exact detail of density of states(DOS).The stable FM state was examined in spinels due to the exchange splitting of ho cation consisting of p-d hybridizations compatible with the result achieved for electronics band structure and ***,spin magnetic moment was explained in terms of anion,cation,and sharing charge on studied *** addition,the calculated thermoelectric properties clearly show that operation range of these systems may be utilized by future experimental works for identifying the potential applications of these systems.

hepatitis B virus(hBV)infection is a major player in chronic hepatitis B that may lead to the development of hepatocellular carcinoma(hCC).hBV genetics are diverse where it is classified into at least 9 genotypes(A to I)and 1 putative genotype(J),each with specific geographical distribution and possible different clinical outcomes in the *** diversity may be associated with the precision medicine for hBV-related hCC and the success of therapeutical approaches against hCC,related to different pathogenicity of the virus and host *** Editorial discusses recent updates on whether the classification of hBV genetic diversity is still valid in terms of viral oncogenicity to the hCC and its precision medicine,in addition to the recent advances in cellular and molecular biology technologies.
