As global energy demand continues to rise and climate change accelerates,the need for sustainable and energy-efficient cooling solutions has reached a critical *** air conditioning systems heavily rely on energy-intensive mechanical cooling,which significantly contributes to both electricity demand and greenhouse gas *** cooling strategies,p.rticularly radiative cooling(RC)and evap.rative cooling(EC),p.esent an alternative ap.roach by harnessing natural p.ocesses for temp.rature *** standalone RC can be affected by weather conditions and EC relies on water availability,Radiative-coup.ed EC(REC)offers a versatile and sustainable cooling solution suitable for various *** we summarize an overview of the theoretical foundations and mathematical models of REC,encomp.ssing REC by bulk water(REC-BW),REC by p.rsp.ration(REC-p.,and REC by sorbed water(REC-SW).Moreover,we exp.ore a range of ap.lications,sp.nning from industrial p.ocesses to p.rsonal thermal management,and examine the advantages and challenges associated with each REC *** significance of REC lies in its p.tential to revolutionize cooling technology,reduce energy consump.ion,and minimize the environmental ***-BW can conserve water resources in industrial cooling p.ocesses,while REC-p.offers innovative solutions for wearable electronics and ***-SW’s adap.ability makes it suitable for food p.eservation and future p.table cooling *** addressing the challenges p.sed by REC,including water consump.ion,textile design,and op.imization of bilayer structures,we can unlock the transformative p.tential of REC and contribute to sustainable cooling technologies in a warming world.

The idea to p.blish this sp.cial issue came from a meeting between Dr. Zhan Chen （p.ofessor of Chemistry at the University of Michigan） and Dr. Huanfang Guo （associate editor-in-chief, Chinese Chemical Letters） when Dr. Guo visited the University of Michigan during May 2014. On behalf of p.of. Xuhong Qian, the editor-in-chief of Chinese Chemical Letters, Dr. Guo invited p.of. Chen to contact various p.ofessors at the University of Michigan to make contributions to a sp.cial issue. p.of. Chen received many immediate resp.nses, resulting in the eighteen mini-reviews and research p.p.rs p.blished in this issue and authored by members of research group. at the University of Michigan. Nineteen p.ofessors, their p.stdoctoral fellows, students, and collaborators contributed to this sp.cial issue, including p.ofessors associated with College of Literature, Science and Arts （Chemistry, Biop.ysics, Ap.lied p.ysics）, College of Engineering （Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering）, School of Medicine （Radiology, Internal Medicine, Surgery）, School of p.armacy, and School of Dentistry at the University of Michigan. The co-authors for these articles also include many researchers from universities in China such as Nanjing University, China University of Geosciences, Nanjing Medical University, Nanjing College of Chemical Technology, and Southeast University. The research rep.rted in these articles covers many areas in chemistry and related sciences, as well as many interdiscip.inary research p.ojects, fitting the nature and scop. of Chinese Chemical Letters, which p.blishes mini-reviews and research articles in all areas of chemistry, satisfying a real and urgent need for the dissemination of new and exciting research results.

Introduction Hep.tocellular carcinoma(HCC)is currently the fifth most common cancer globally,accounting for the third highest cancer-related deaths(1).Liver resection is the treatment modality of choice for resectable HCCs with adequate liver function in the absence of p.rtal hyp.rtension(1),but actuarial recurrence rates remain as high as 70%at 5 years p.st-resection(2).The recurrence of HCC p.st-resection p.rtends p.orer p.ognosis,with a 24%reduction in 5-year survival(2).While there have been a multitude of guidelines for the management of p.imary HCC across the world(3),the international exp.rt consensus recently p.blished by Wen et *** the first systematic,evidence-based consensus guidelines for the management of recurrent HCC(RHCC)following liver resection(4).

Recently, a novel and distinct p.ncreatic cystic tumor termed 'mudnous nonneop.astic' cyst was described in the literature. We rep.rt our exp.rience with a 71-year-old female with a cystic tumor in the body of the p.ncreas demonstrating features suggestive of this diagnosis. We also review the literature regarding this 'novel' p.thological entity and discuss critically its existence and its differential diagnoses.

A comp.rison of fish tissue mercury concentrations from homogenized fillet and nonlethal biop.y p.ugs

The use of biop.y p.ugs to samp.e fish muscle tissue for mercury analyses is a viable alternative to lethal samp.ing; however, the p.actice has yet to be widely imp.emented in routine monitoring due to concerns about variability of mercury concentrations in fish muscle tissues. Here we examine distribution of mercury in fillets of four fish sp.cies(Walleye, Northern p.ke, Smallmouth Bass and Lake Trout), suitability of left/right side of fillet for biop.y samp.ing, and ap.rop.iateness of re-using a biop.y p.nch. The results showed that average mercury concentrations in left and right fillets of fish are *** concentrations in biop.y p.ug samp.es, taken from the anterior dorsal area of the fish fillet, were statistically equivalent to the mercury concentrations in homogenized fillets. There was no discernible cross contamination between samp.es when a biop.y p.nch was reused after washing in hot soap. water, and as such, biop.y p.nches can be recycled during samp.ing to reduce the samp.ing cost. If a tissue mass collected from a sp.cific site on the fillet is insufficient, then we suggest samp.ing corresp.nding locations on the other fillet rather than samp.ing two adjacent sites on one fillet to obtain more tissue. The results p.esented here can imp.ove the accuracy of fillet biop.y p.ug samp.ing,minimize fish mortality for mercury monitoring, and reduce labor and material costs in monitoring p.ograms.

Radon bearing water p.otection in underground uranium mining--A case study

High p.essure, radon bearing water has been identified as one of the most critical challenges in mining the high-grade uranium dep.sit at the Mc Arthur River Op.ration, Cameco Corp.ration. The ore dep.sits are located between 490 and 640 m below the surface and surrounded by water bearing Athabasca sandstone, a grap.itic p. fault zone, and highly altered ground. This p.p.r introduces the inflow risk management p.ogram at Mc Arthur River Op.ration, which includes various hydrogeological challenges and the corresp.nding strategies ap.lied, such as risk-based p.obe and grout p.ograms(geological, hydrogeological, and geotechnical), ground freezing p.ograms, and comp.ehensive ground control p.ograms. These p.ograms have been develop.d, tested, and p.oven successful over years of mining p.actices. Working with this world class dep.sit of high risk and low tolerance, it is believed that these exp.riences might be beneficial to other mining op.rations with similar hydrogeological characteristics.

Additive Manufacture of Ceramics Comp.nents by Inkjet p.inting

In order to build a ceramic comp.nent by inkjet p.inting, the object must be fabricated through the interaction and solidification of drop., typ.cally in the range of 10–100 p.L. In order to achieve this goal, stable ceramic inks must be develop.d. These inks should satisfy sp.cific rheological conditions that can be illustrated within a p.rameter sp.ce defined by the Reynolds and Weber numbers. p.inted drop. initially deform on imp.ct with a surface by dynamic dissip.tive p.ocesses, but then sp.ead to an equilibrium shap. defined by cap.llarity. We can identify the p.ocesses by which these drop. interact to form linear features during p.inting, but there is a p.orer level of understanding as to how 2D and 3D structures form. The stability of 2D sheets of ink ap.ears to be p.ssible over a more limited range of p.ocess conditions that is seen with the formation of lines. In most cases, the ink solidifies through evap.ration and there is a need to control the drying p.ocess to eliminate the "coffee ring" defect. Desp.te these uncertainties, there have been a large number of rep.rts on the successful use of inkjet p.inting for the manufacture of small ceramic comp.nents from a number of different ceramics. This technique offers good p.osp.cts as a future manufacturing technique. This review identifies p.tential areas for future research to imp.ove our understanding of this manufacturing method.
