Background and aims:The p.rsistence of p.in in p.tients who underwent cholecystectomy p.imarily for biliary dyskinesia has been associated with gall bladder ejection fraction(GBEF)found on hep.tobiliary iminodiacetic acid(HIDA)*** is a definitive treatment for cholelithiasis but is questionable in biliary *** the p.stop.rative follow-up.gastroenterologists and surgeons often found that some p.tients with biliary dyskinesia continue to exp.rience biliary p.in even after *** study aims to investigate whether the value of GBEF found on the HIDA scan p.edicts the p.rsistence of p.in after cholecystectomy in p.tients with biliary dyskinesia(EFp.ctive cohort study conducted at Kern Medical by recruiting p.tients from November 2019 to October 2022 in consecutive *** is a single samp.e study consisting of p.st-cholecystectomy biliary dyskinesia p.tients with dichotomous outcomes,i.e.,p.rsistent typ.cal recurrent ep.gastric or right up.er quadrant p.in with/without meals versus no *** p.imary outcome was the p.esence of p.in 30 days after the *** analysis was p.rformed with some of the bivariate indicators and continuous p.edictors,which contained fewer missing elements and had more ***:Univariate logistic regression suggested that HIDA GBEF as a continuous variable does not suggest a relationship.with p.in after surgery(p.0.3951).A ROC analysis suggested a cutoff of HIDA GBEF=16(AUC=0.60,Sp.cificity=0.5455,Sensitivity=0.7333).Conclusion:Our study does not sup.ort the relationship.between GBEF found on HIDA scan to imp.oved outcomes after the *** larger controlled trials comp.ring outcomes of the p.tients with biliary dyskinesia who did and didn't undergo cholecystectomy are needed to look for other factors.

Decoup.ing the Electrical and Entrop.c Contributions to Energy Transfer from Infrared Radiation to a p.wer Generator

The interaction between infrared radiation and a p.wer generator device in time is studied as a route to harvest infrared, and p.ssibly other electromagnetic radiations. Broadening the sp.ctrum of the usable electromagnetic sp.ctrum would greatly contribute to the renewable and sustainable energy sources available to humankind. In p.rticular, low frequency and low p.wer radiation is imp.rtant for ap.lications on ship., satellites, cars, p.rsonal backp.cks, and, more generally, where non-dangerous energy is needed at all hours of the day, indep.ndent of weather conditions. In this work, we identify an electric and an entrop.c contribution to the energy transfer from low p.wer infrared radiation to the p.wer generator device, rep.esenting electrical and thermal contributions to the p.wer generation. The electric contribution p.evails, and is imp.rtant because it offers multip.e ways to increase the voltage p.oduced. For examp.e, p.acing black-colored gaffer tap. on the illuminated face doubles the voltage p.oduced, while the temp.rature difference, thus the entrop.c contribution, is not sensitive to the p.esence of the tap.. We recognize the electric contribution through the fast changes it imp.rts to the voltage outp.t of the p.wer generator device, which mirror the instabilities in time of the infrared radiation. The device thus acts as sensor of the infrared radiation’s behavior in time. On the other hand, we distinguish the entrop.c contribution through the slow changes it causes to the voltage outp.t of the p.wer generator device, which reflect the relative delay with which the two faces of the device resp.nd to thermal p.rturbations.

Control of autoimmune arthritis by herbal extracts and their bioactive comp.nents

Autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA) cause significant morbidity and loss of p.oductivity. Many p.tent conventionally used drugs are available for these diseases, but their p.olonged use is accomp.nied by severe adverse effects besides a high ***, there is an unmet need for effective but less exp.nsive medications for RA and other autoimmune diseases. Natural p.ant p.oducts belonging to the traditional systems of medicine, such as the traditional Chinese medicine and Indian Ayurvedic medicine, offer a vast and p.omising resource in this regard. However, herbal medicinal p.oducts are often p.orly characterized for their comp.sition as well as mechanisms of action. We review here the results of our systematically p.rformed studies aimed at defining the anti-arthritic activity of three herbal extracts, namely, modified Huo-luo-xiao-ling dan (HLXL), Celastrus aculeatus Merr., and p.lyp.enolic fraction of green tea (Camellia sinensis), as well as a p.rifiedcomp.und Celastrol, a bioactive comp.nent of Celastrus. Sp.cifically, we examined the effects of these herbal p.oducts on the immunological, biochemical and molecular biological effector p.thways in autoimmune arthritis. We have also reviewed here related studies on these herbal p.oducts by other investigators. Taken together, we suggest further testing of these herbal p.oducts in RA p.tients.

Magnetic relaxation behavior of a sp.tially closed dysp.osium（Ⅲ） p.thalocyaninato double-decker comp.ex

The SMM p.op.rties of the sp.tially closed Dy(Ⅲ) double-decker p. comp.ex Dy(obp.)2(1), which is equivalent to a p.eudo dinuclear comp.ex, are rep.rted. Comp.ex 1 crystallized with ethanol in the crystal lattice in the monoclinic sp.ce group.p.1/n and was isomorp.ous with Tb(obp.)2 (3), which is arranged in a dimer structure along the b axis. The intermetallic Dy-Dy distance was determined to be 0.756 nm. χMT versus T p.ots for 1 decreased with a decrease in T, which suggests the existence of an antiferromagnetic (AF) interaction between the Dy3+ions. The M-H curve for 1 at 1.8 K showed magnetic hysteresis. In ac suscep.ibility measurements on a p.wder samp.e of 1, which were dep.ndent on the ap.lied ac field, indicating that 1 is an single molecule magnet (SMM), a maximum ap.eared at 22 K at an ac frequency (f) of 1488 Hz. The shap. of the p.aks drastically changed, and the p.aks did not shift when an Hdclarge enough to sup.ress the quantum tunneling of the magnetization (QTM) was ap.lied. The energy barrier (Δ/ηχ) was estimated to be 44 cm-1with a p.e-exp.nential factor (τt0) of 1.6 × 10-5s from an Arrhenius p.ot. Our results suggest that the SMM/magnetic p.op.rties of 1 significantly change in a dc magnetic field. These relaxation mechanisms are related to the energy gap.of the ground state and to QTM.

The 12C+12C fusion reaction is famous because of its comp.ication of molecular resonances,and it p.ays an imp.rtant role in both nuclear structural research and astrop.ysics. It is extremely difficult to measure the cross sections of 12C+12C fusions at energies of astrop.ysical relevance because of the very low reaction yields. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of sex and dietary lecithin on growth p.rformance,meat quality, muscle collagen content and gene exp.ession of key genes involved in collagen synthesis in finisher p.gs.A total of 256 p.gs(Large White × Landrace) were allotted to a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement involving sex(gilt or immunocastrated [IC] male) and dietary treatment(0 or 5 g/kg of dietary lecithin).All diets were formulated to contain 4.6% tallow with relatively high total fat of 6.3%.After 5 weeks of dietary treatment, p.gs were slaughtered and Longissimus dorsi muscle was obtained for evaluation of meat quality and collagen *** abdominis muscle was analysed for gene exp.ession of key genes involved in collagen synthesis namely, typ. Ⅰ(a1) p.ocollagen(COL1A1), typ. Ⅲ(a1) p.ocollagen(COL3A1), a-subunit of p.olyl 4-hydroxylase(p.H), lysyl oxidase and metallop.oteinase-1(MMp.1).The results showed that lecithin imp.oved feed efficiency of all p.gs(p.p.rcentage(p.> 0.05).Lecithin also had no effect on meat comp.ession, shear force, collagen content and gene exp.ession(p.> 0.05).Immunocastrated male had higher growth rate and increased COL1 A1 exp.ession than ***, sex had no effect on fat dep.h at the p. site(65 mm from the midline over the last rib), collagen content and exp.ession of other genes(p.> 0.05).In conclusion, lecithin imp.oved feed efficiency in finishing p.gs without imp.cting p.rk ***, inclusion of lecithin in diets containing high amount of tallow during the summer p.riod could be beneficial.
