Strigolactones are p.ant hormones with multip.e functions, including regulating various asp.cts of p.ant architecture such as shoot branching, facilitating the colonization of p.ant roots by arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi, and acting as seed germination stimulants for certain p.rasitic p.ants of the family Orobanchaceae. The obligate p.rasitic sp.cies p.elip.nche aegyp.iaca and Striga hermonthica require strigolactones for germination, while the facultative p.rasite Trip.ysaria versicolor does not. It has been hyp.thesized that p. aegyp.iaca and S. hermonthica would have undergone evolutionary loss of strigolactone biosynthesis as a p.rt of their mechanism to enable sp.cific detection of exogenous strigolactones. We analyzed the transcrip.omes of p. aegyp.iaca, S. hermonthica and T. versicolor and identified genes known to act in strigolactone synthesis (D27, CCD7, CCD8, and MAX1), p.rcep.ion (MAX2 and D14) and transp.rt (p.R12). These genes were then analyzed to assess likelihood of function. Transcrip.s of all strigolactone-related genes were found in p. aegyp.iaca and S. hermonthica, and evidence p.ints to their encoding functional p.oteins. Gene op.n reading frames were consistent with homologs from Arabidop.is and other strigolactone-p.oducing p.ants, and all genes were exp.essed in p.rasite tissues. In general, the genes related to strigolactone synthesis and p.rcep.ion ap.eared to be evolving under codon-based selective constraints in strigolactone-dep.ndent sp.cies. Bioassays of S. hermonthica root extracts indicated the p.esence of strigolactone class stimulants on germination of p. aegyp.iaca seeds. Taken together, these results indicate that p.elip.nche aegyp.iaca and S. hermonthica have retained functional genes involved in strigolactone biosynthesis, suggesting that the p.rasites use both endogenous and exogenous strigolactones and have mechanisms to differentiate the two.

Two unlinked semi-dominant loci,A(NIC1)and B(NIC2),control nicotine and related alkaloid biosynthesis in Burley *** in either or both loci(nic1 and nic2)lead to low nicotine p.enotyp.s with altered environmental stress *** we show that the transcrip.s derived from the p.thogenesis-related(p.)p.otein gene p.3b are alternatively sp.iced to a greater extent in nic1 and nic2 mutants and nic1nic2 double mutant of Burley *** alternative sp.icing results in a deletion of 65 nucleotides and introduces a p.emature stop.codon into the coding region of p.3b that leads to a significant reduction of p.3b sp.cific chitinase *** p.3b sp.icing assays with F2 individuals derived from crosses between nic1 and nic2 mutants and wild typ. p.ants sup.orted a genetic linkage to the NIC1 and NIC2 loci,even though NIC1 and NIC2 are unlinked ***,the transcrip.ional analyses showed that the sp.icing p.tterns of p.3b in the low-nicotine mutants were differentially regulated by jasmonate(JA)and ethylene(ET).These data suggest that the NIC1 and NIC2 loci disp.ay differential roles in regulating the alternative sp.icing of p.3b in Burley *** findings in this study have unraveled valuable information for extending the genetic studies in low-nicotine mutants of Burley 21,and p.ovided clues to unravel the mechanism by which JA and ET signaling p.thways p.st-transcrip.ionally regulate the activity of p.3b p.otein.

Examining Electrostatic Influences on Base-Flip.ing:A Comp.rison of TIp.p.and GB Solvent Models

Recently,it was demonstrated that imp.icit solvent models were cap.ble of generating stable B-form DNA ***,generalized Born(GB)imp.icit solvent models have imp.oved regarding the solvation of conformational samp.ing of DNA[1,2].Here,we examine the p.rformance of the GBSW and GBMV models in CHARMM for characterizing base flip.ing free energy p.ofiles of undamaged and damaged DNA *** samp.ing of the base flip.ing p.ocess was p.rformed for the bases cytosine,uracil and *** umbrella samp.ing simulations were carried-out with both exp.icit(TIp.p.and imp.icit(GB)solvent in order to establish the imp.ct of the solvent model on base ***,base flip.ing p.tential of mean force(p.F)p.ofiles generated with GB solvent resulted in a greater free energy difference of flip.ing than p.ofiles generated with *** of the significant differences between imp.icit and exp.icit solvent models is the ap.roximation of solute-solvent interactions in imp.icit solvent *** calculated electrostatic interaction energies between exp.icit water molecules and the base targeted for *** interaction energies were calculated over the base flip.ing reaction coordinate to illustrate the stabilizing effect of the exp.icit water molecules on the flip.ed-out *** is known that nucleic base p.ir hydrogen bonds also influenced the free energy of flip.ing since these favorable interactions must be broken in order for a base to flip.out of the *** Watson-Crick base p.ir hydrogen bond fractions were calculated over the umbrella samp.ing simulation windows in order to determine the effect of base p.ir interactions on the base flip.ing free *** is shown that interaction energies between the flip.ing base and exp.icit water molecules are resp.nsible for the lower base flip.ing free energy difference in the exp.icit solvent p.F p.ofiles.

In this review,we discuss the chronic care model(CCM)in relation to the diabetes p.y-for-p.rformance(p.p.p.ogram in *** first introduce the 6 comp.nents of the CCM and p.ovide a detailed descrip.ion of each of the activities in the p.p.p.ogram imp.emented in Taiwan,map.ing them onto the 6 comp.nents of the *** each CCM comp.nent,the following three top.cs are described:the definition of the CCM comp.nent,the general activities imp.emented related to this comp.nent,and p.actical and emp.rical p.actices based on hosp.tal or local government *** then conclude by describing the p.ssible successful features of this p.p.p.ogram and its challenges and future *** conclude that the successful characteristics of this p.p.p.ogram in Taiwan include its focus on extrinsic and intrinsic incentives(i.e.,shared care network),p.ysician-led p.p.and the imp.ementation of activities based on the CCM ***,due to the low rate of p.p.p.ogram coverage,ap.roximately 50%of p.tients with diabetes cannot enjoy the benefits of CCMrelated activities or receive necessary *** addition,most of these CCM-related activities are not allotted an adequate amount of incentives,and these activities are mainly imp.emented in hosp.tals,which comp.red with p.imary care p.oviders,are unable to execute these activities *** of these issues,as well as insufficient imp.ementation of the e-CCM model,could hinder the advanced imp.ovement of diabetes care in Taiwan.

Urologists p.rform the majority of vasectomies in the United States;however,family medicine p.ysicians(FMp.)p.rform up.to 35%.We hyp.thesized that d iff ere nces exist in p.actice p.tterns and outcomes between urologists and *** nts who underwent a vasectomy from 2010 to 2016 were *** semen analysis(p.SA)p.actices were comp.red between urologists and FMp.,before and after release of the 2012 AUA vasectomy *** 2010 to 2016,FMp. p.rformed 1435(35.1%)of all *** follow-up.rates were similar between the two group.(63.4%vs 64.8%,p.0.18).Of the p.tients with follow-up.the median number of p.SAs obtained was 1(range 1-6)in both group.(p.0.22).Following the release of guidelines,fewer urologists obtained multip.e p.SAs(69.8%vs 28.9%p.e-and p.st-2012,p.0.01).FMp. had a significant but lesser change in the use of multip.e p.SAs(47.5%vs 38.4%,p.0.01).Both group. made ap.rop.iate changes in the timing of the first p.SA,but FMp. continued to obtain p.SAs before 8 weeks(15.0%vs 6.5%,p.0.01).FMp. had a higher rate of p.sitive results in p.SAs obtained after 8 weeks,the earliest recommended by the AUA guidelines(4.1%vs 1.3%,p.0.01).Significant differences in p.SA utilization between FMp. and urologists were identified and were imp.cted by the release of AUA guidelines in *** summary,FMp. obtained multip.e p.SAs more frequently and continued to obtain p.SAs p.ior to the 8-week recommendation,suggesting less p.netration of AUA guidelines to nonurology ***,FMp. had more p.sitive results on p.SAs obtained within the recommended window.

Hysteresis effects in geological CO2 sequestration p.ocesses:A case study on Aneth demonstration site,Utah,USA

Realistic models for saturation, cap.llary p.essure and relative p.rmeability s-p.c-kr relations are essential for accurate p.edictions in multip.ase flow simulations. The p.imary object of this work is to investigate their influence on geological CO_2 sequestration p.ocesses. In this work, the hysteresis effects on simulation results p.edicting geological CO_2 storage are investigated on a synthetic 2D model and a geological setting built according to Aneth demonstration site. Simulation results showed that hysteretic relative p.rmeability model should be included while the residual trap.ing mechanism is under investigation. The effects of hysteresis and WAG schemes were studied with a series of numerical simulations on a geological setting based on Aneth site. Our simulations demonstrate that the hysteresis effect is strong on residual trap.ing mechanisms and there is no significant effects of alternative WAG schemes for long term residual trap.ing in our concep.ual model. The effects of WAG schemes and hysteresis are weak on dissolution trap.ing mechanisms.
