Riboflavin transporter deficiency(RTD),previously known as Brown-Vialetto-Van laere syndrome,is a childhoodonset neurodegenerative disorder characterized by sensory and motor neuron degeneration causing ataxia,muscle weakness,optic atrophy,and respiratory failure.Mutations in SlC52A2 and SlC52A3,solute carrier family members that encode riboflavin(RF)transporters RFVT2 and RFVT3,are known to cause RTD types 2 and 3,respectively.

Integrated switches play a crucial role in the development of reconfigurable optical add-drop multiplexers(ROADMs)that have greater flexibility and compactness,ultimately leading to robust single-chip solutions.Despite decades of research on switches with various structures and platforms,achieving a balance between dense integration,low insertion loss(Il),and polarization-dependent loss(PDl)remains a significant challenge.In this paper,we propose and demonstrate a 32×4 optical switch using high-index doped silica glass(HDSG)for ROADM applications.This switch is designed to route any of the 32 inputs to the express ports or drop any channels from 32 inputs to the target 4 drop ports or add any of the 4 ports to any of the 32 express channels.The switch comprises 188 MachZehnder Interferometer(MZI)type switch elements,88 optical vias for the 44 optical bridges,and 618 waveguidewaveguide crossings with three-dimensional(3D)structures.At 1550 nm,the fiber-to-fiber loss for each express channel is below 2 dB,and across the C and l bands,below 3 dB.For each input channel to all 4 drop/add channels at 1550 nm,the loss is less than 3.5 dB and less than 5 dB across the C and l bands.The PDls for all express and input channels to the 4 drop/add channels are below 0.3 dB over the C band,and the crosstalk is under−50 dB for both the C and l bands.

本研究基于中国英语学习者和英语母语者的词汇联想测试数据,利用网络科学技术,从宏观、中观和微观三个层面探索中国学习者英语二语心理词汇网络结构。研究发现有二。1)二语心理词汇网络的平均最短路径和聚集系数与其对应的随机网络参数相比,均存在显著差异。2)二语心理词汇网络与母语心理词汇网络在宏观层面无显著差异,在中观层面存在显著差异,在微观层面存在质的差异:二语心理词汇网络以语义为主,语义-非语义混合联结,母语心理词汇网络以语义联结为主;此外,二语水平只在微观层面影响二语心理词汇网络的内部联结:高水平学习者的语义联结占比高。据此,本文构建了英语二语心理词汇的复杂网络:节点聚集程度较高,结构优化,信息通达速度较快;随着二语水平提高,语义联结不断加强,网络结构会更优化,信息交流更有效。

The introduction of alleles into commercial crop breeding pipelines is both time consuming and costly.Two technologies that are disrupting traditional breeding processes are doubled haploid(DH)breeding and genome editing(GE).Recently,these techniques were combined into a GE trait delivery system called HI-Edit(Haploid Inducer-Edit).In HI-Edit,the pollen of a haploid inducer line is reprogrammed to deliver GE traits to any variety,obviating recurrent selection.For HI-Edit to operate at scale,an efficient transformable HI line is needed,but most maize varieties are recalcitrant to transformation,and haploid inducers are especially difficult to transform given their aberrant reproductive behaviors.leveraging marker assisted selection and a three-tiered testing scheme,we report the development of new Iodent and Stiff Stalk maize germplasm that are transformable,have high haploid induction rates,and exhibit a robust,genetically-dominant anthocyanin native trait that may be used for rapid haploid identification.We show that transformation of these elite‘‘HI-Edit”lines is enhanced using the BABYBOOM and WUSCHEl morphogenetic factors.Finally,we evaluate the HI-Edit performance of one of the lines against both Stiff Stalk and non-Stiff Stalk testers.The strategy and results of this study should facilitate the development of commercially scalable HI-Edit systems in diverse crops.

Purpose This study used downhill running as a model to investigate the repeated bout effect(RBE)on neuromuscular performance,running biomechanics,and metabolic cost of running.Methods Ten healthy recreational male runners performed two 30-min bouts of downhill running(DR1 and DR2)at a-20%slope and 2.8 m/s 3 weeks apart.Neuromuscular fatigue,level running biomechanics during slow and fast running,and running economy parameters were recorded immediately before and after the downhill bouts,and at 24 h,48 h,72 h,96 h,and 168 h thereafter(i.e.,follow-up days).Results An RBE was confirmed by attenuated muscle soreness and serum creatine kinase rise after DR2 compared to DR1.An RBE was also observed in maximum voluntary contraction(MVC)force loss and voluntary activation where DR2 resulted in attenuated MVC force loss and voluntary activation immediately after the run and during follow-up days.The downhill running protocol significantly influenced level running biomechanics;an RBE was observed in which center of mass excursion and,therefore,lower-extremity compliance were greater during follow-up days after DR1 compared to DR2.The observed changes in level running biomechanics did not influence the energy cost of running.Conclusion This study demonstrated evidence of adaptation in neural drive as well as biomechanical changes with the RBE after DR.The higher neural drive resulted in attenuated MVC force loss after the second bout.It can be concluded that the RBE after downhill running manifests as changes to global and central fatigue parameters and running biomechanics without substantially altering the energy cost of running.

Introduction The bench press is commonly used to measure upper-body strength.While much emphasis has been placed on the upper-body,little is known about how the lower-body can play a role in bench press performance.leg-drive is a technique that includes flexing the knee so the feet line up posterior to the knee joint,while simultaneously contracting the knee extensors isometrically during the lift.The purpose of this study was to compare strength characteristics of lifters in a standard bench press versus a leg-drive bench press over the course of 5-weeks of training.Methods Twenty-three recreationally active males(age:22.4±2.1 years,height:175.0±5.9 cm,mass:78.4±9.5 kg)were randomized into a standard bench or leg-drive bench press group.Participants performed four sets to failure,two times per week for five weeks.Variables of interests were training volume and 1-repetition maximum(1RM)strength.For training volume,a 2×5(group×week)repeated measures analysis of variance(RMANOVA)was used.For the 1RM’s,a 2×2×2(group×press type×time)RMANOVA was used.A priori alpha levels were set to 0.05.Results Over time,both groups showed an approximate 6%increase in 1RM strength.Training volume for week 4 was 5.6%less than week 5,but was not different from weeks 1 through 3.No between-group differences were observed for 1RM strength or training volume.Conclusion This results of this work indicates that 5 weeks of leg-drive training is effective in increasing 1RM strength,but was not more effective than standard bench press training.Practically,lifters should choose either lifting style based on personal preference.

AIM: To assess the relationship between axial length(Al) and intraocular lens(IOl) rotation among eyes receiving a toric IOl and subsequently entered into an online toric back-calculator database.METHODS: Retrospective analysis of data collected online via ***, a freely available online toric back-calculator where surgeons enter pre-and postoperative information to help manage residual postoperative astigmatism.Included records were deemed valid with entry of Al and IOl orientation between January 2017 and March 2019.Rotation was determined by a difference of ≥5° between pre-operative intended IOl orientation and actual post-operative IOl orientation.Frequency and magnitude of rotation are presented with means and associated standard deviation(SD).linear regression models of this association are presented.RESUlTS: Records of 6752 eyes were included in the analysis, of which 74.8% were determined to have a rotated IOl.The magnitude of rotation increased with each millimeter(mm) increase in Al with a mean rotation of 13.3°(SD: 12.8°) for eyes with Al 20-20.9 mm and a maximum mean rotation of 30.6°(SD: 30.3°) among eyes with Al 29-29.9 mm.General linear modeling demonstrated a significant association(PlUSION: Analysis from an online database indicates that toric IOls inserted into eyes with longer Al are more likely to rotate and to rotate more degrees from the target axis.The findings from this study are clinically relevant for surgeons implanting toric IOls.

OBJECTIVE： Integrative medicine （IM） combines complementary medical approaches into conventional medicine and considers the whole person. We implemented a longitudinal IM short-course curriculum into our medical school education. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of the curriculum via knowledge and attitude surveys regarding IM among students. METHODS： A mandatory short IM curriculum across all years of medical school was created and taught by IM professionals and physician faculty members with expertise in integrative therapies. Graduating classes of 2015 and 2016 completed the same survey in their first and third years of medical school. Paired data analysis was done, and only students who completed surveys at both time points were included in final analyses. RESUlTS： Of 52 students in each class, 17 （33%） in the class of 2015 and 22 （42%） in the class of 2016 completed both surveys. After the IM curriculum, students＇ knowledge of and comfort with several IM therapies--biofeedback, mindfulness, and the use of St. John＇s wort--improved significantly. Students＇ personal health practices also improved, including better sleep, exercise, and stress management for the class of 2015. Students graduating in 2016 reported decreased alcohol use in their third year compared with their first year. CONClUSION： It is feasible to incorporate IM education into undergraduate medical education, and this is associated with improvement in students＇ knowledge of IM and personal health practices.

Obesity is characterized by chronic,low-grade inflammation,which is driven by macrophage infiltration of adipose tissue.PPARγ is well established to have an anti-inflammatory function in macrophages,but the mechanism that regulates its function in these cells remains to be fully elucidated.PPARγundergoes post-translational modifications(PTMs),including acetylation,to mediate ligand responses,including on metabolic functions.Here,we report that PPARγacetylation in macrophages promotes their infiltration into adipose tissue,exacerbating metabolic dysregulation.We generated a mouse line that expresses a macrophage-specific,constitutive acetylation-mimetic form of PPARγ(K293Q^(flox/flox):lysM-cre,mK293Q)to dissect the role of PPARγacetylation in macrophages.Upon highfat diet feeding to stimulate macrophage infiltration into adipose tissue,we assessed the overall metabolic profile and tissue-specific phenotype of the mutant mice,including responses to the PPARγagonist Rosiglitazone.Macrophage-specific PPARγK293Q expression promotes proinflammatory macrophage infiltration and fibrosis in epididymal white adipose tissue,but not in subcutaneous or brown adipose tissue,leading to decreased energy expenditure,insulin sensitivity,glucose tolerance,and adipose tissue function.Furthermore,mK293Q mice are resistant to Rosiglitazone-induced improvements in adipose tissue remodeling.Our study reveals that acetylation is a new layer of PPARγregulation in macrophage activation,and highlights the importance and potential therapeutic implications of such PTMs in regulating metabolism.
