When will it end? Long-lived intracontinental reactivation in central Australia

The post-Mesoproterozoic tectonometamorphic history of the Musgrave Province, central Australia, has previously been solely attributed to intracontinental compressional deformation during the 580 -520 Ma Petermann Orogeny. However, our new structurally controlled multi-mineral geochronology results,from two north-trending transects, indicate protracted reactivation of the Australian continental interior over ca. 715 million years. The earliest events are identified in the hinterland of the orogen along the western transect. The first tectonothermal event, at ca. 715 Ma, is indicated by40 Ar/39 Ar muscovite and U e Pb titanite ages. Another previously unrecognised tectonometamorphic event is dated at ca. 630 Ma by Ue Pb analyses of metamorphic zircon rims. This event was followed by continuous cooling and exhumation of the hinterland and core of the orogen along numerous faults, including the Woodroffe Thrust,from ca. 625 Ma to 565 Ma as indicated by muscovite, biotite, and hornblende40 Ar/39 Ar cooling ages. We therefore propose that the Petermann Orogeny commenced as early as ca. 630 Ma. Along the eastern transect,40 Ar/39 Ar muscovite and zircon(Ue Th)/He data indicate exhumation of the foreland fold and thrust system to shallow crustal levels between ca. 550 Ma and 520 Ma, while the core of the orogen was undergoing exhumation to mid-crustal levels and cooling below 600-660℃. Subsequent cooling to 150 -220℃ of the core of the orogen occurred between ca. 480 Ma and 400 Ma(zircon [Ue Th]/He data)during reactivation of the Woodroffe Thrust, coincident with the 450 -300 Ma Alice Springs *** of the footwall of the Woodroffe Thrust to shallow depths occurred at ca. 200 Ma. More recent tectonic activity is also evident as on the 21 May, 2016(Sydney date), a magnitude 6.1 earthquake occurred, and the resolved focal mechanism indicates that compressive stress and exhumation along the Woodroffe Thrust is continuing to the present day. The large,newly discovered Sharang porphyry Mo deposit and nearby Yaguila skarn Pb–Zn–Ag(–Mo) deposit reside in the central Lhasa terrane,northern Gangdese metallogenic belt,*** mineral chronometers(zircon U–Pb,sericiteAr–Ar,and zircon and apatite(U–Th)/He) reveal that ore-forming porphyritic intrusions experienced rapid cooling(N 100 °C/Ma) during a monotonic magmatic–hydrothermal *** magmatic–hydrothermal ore-forming event at Sharang lasted .0 Myr(.8 Myr for cooling from N 900 to 350 °C and .0 Myr for cooling from 350 to 200 °C) whereas cooling was more prolonged during ore formation at Yaguila(.8 Myr from N 900 to500 °C and a maximum of 6 Myr from N 900 to 350 °C).All porphyritic intrusions in the ore district experienced exhumation at a rate of 0.07–0.09 mm/yr(apatite He ages between 7 and 30 Ma).Combined with previous studies,this work implies that uplift of the eastern section of the Lhasa terrane expanded from central Lhasa(37–30 Ma)to southern Lhasa(15–12 Ma) at an increasing exhumation *** available geochronologic data reveal that magmatic–hydrothermal–exhumation activities in the Sharang–Yaguila ore district occurred within four periods of magmatism with related *** porphyry-type Mo mineralization was associated with Late Cretaceous–Eocene felsic porphyritic intrusions in the central Lhasa terrane,resulting from Neotethyan oceanic subduction and india–Asia continental collision.

Effects of transdermal magnesium chloride on quality of life for patients with fibromyalgia: a feasibility study

BACKGROUND： Fibromyalgia is a syndrome characterized by chronic pain, fatigue, depression, and sleep disturbances. its primary cause is unclear. Several studies have reported decreased intracellular magnesium levels in patients with fibromyalgia and have found negative correlation between magnesium levels and fibromyalgia symptoms.OBJECTiVE： To gather preliminary data on whether transdermal magnesium can improve quality of life for women who have fibromyalgia. DESiGN, SETTiNG, PARTiCiPANTS AND iNTERVENTiONS： This is a patient questionnaires and survey in a fibremyalgia clinic at a tertiary medical center. Forty female patients with the diagnosis of fibremyalgia were enrolled. Each participant was provided a spray bottle containing a transdermal magnesium chloride solution and asked to apply 4 sprays per limb twice daily for 4 weeks. Participants were asked to complete the Revised Fibromyalgia impact Questionnaire, SF-36v2 Health Survey, and a quality-of-life analog scale at baseline, week 2, and week 4. MAiN OUTCOME MEASURE： Questionnaire and survey scores, evaluated through intent-to-treat and per-protocol analyses. RESULTS： Twenty-four patients completed the study （mean [SD] age, 57.2 [7.6] years; white, 95%; mean body mass index, 31.3 kg/m2）. With intention-to-treat analysis, Revised Fibromyalgia impact Questionnaire subscale and total scores were significantly improved at week 2 and week 4 （total score, P = 0.001）. Per-protocol analysis results were similar： all subscales of the Revised Fibremyalgia impact Questionnaire were significantly improved at week 2 and week 4 （total score, P = 0.001）. CONCLUSiON： This pilot study suggests that transdermal magnesium chloride applied on upper and lower limbs may be beneficial to patients with fibromyalgia.

We experimentally demonstrate the generation of highly coherent Type-ii micro-combs based on a microresonator nested in a fiber cavity loop, known as the filter-driven four wave mixing （FD-FWM） laser scheme. in this system, the frequency spacing of the comb can be adjusted to integer multiples of the free-spectral range （FSR） of the nested mlcro-resonator by properly tuning the fiber cavity length. Sub-comb lines with single FSR spacing around the primary comb lines can be generated. Such a spectral emission is known as a ＂Type-ii comb＂. Our system achieves a fully coherent output. This behavior is verified by numerical simulations. This study represents an important step forward in controlling and manipulating the dynamics of an FD-FWM laser.
