Objective To evaluate the low melting-point MCP-69,MCP-96,MCP-137,and MCP-200 alloys,and characterize them for their potential to protect from the harms associated with radiation and eliminate radiation hazards during radiological procedures and treatment of *** The klein-Nishina formula was used to calculate the electronic and atomic cross-sections of these alloys using photon beams with energies 4,6,9,12,and 18*** transfer coefficients,Compton mass attenuation coefficient,mass-energy transfer coefficient,and recoil energy of electrons in the specific photon energies of 4–18MeV were *** alloys'effective charge number and the photon energy were key factors in determining the properties found by utilizing the klein-Nishina formula and Compton *** The cross sections and energy transfer coefficients increased with the increasing effective charge number Z of the alloys and decreased as the photon energy *** Compton recoil of the ejected electrons was observed to have a direct relationship with photon energy,but mass-energy transfer decreased with increasing photon *** alloys can replace the toxic lead for environmentally cleaned radiation *** These calculations and characteristics of the MCP alloys can help further determine their viability as materials for radiation shielding,their use in safe cancer diagnosis,treatment,and environmental hazards protection.

Introduction:Alzheimer 's disease(AD) is a common neurodegenerative disorder and the primary cause of dementia. Considerable evidence supports the “amyloid hypothesis,” stating that the pathogenesis of AD is primarily caused by the deposition of amyloid-β(Aβ), which drives tau phosphorylation, neuroinflammation, and neurodegeneration in the brain. The amyloid hypothesis is strengthened by the significant and moderate benefit of lecanemab, a humanized antibody through an anti-amyloid mechanism,showing slowed clinical decline(van Dyck et al.,2023). The recent positive results of anti-amyloid trials have brought back focus on the amyloid hypothesis through biochemical, genetic, and pharmacological approaches(Zhang, 2023).

EVALUATING THE WEIGHTED-SUM APPROACH FOR MEASURING BUILDINGS’ADAPTABILITY

As urban populations increase worldwide and more demands are placed on infrastructure and buildings,the topic of adaptable building design has experienced increased interest as a way to embed adaptability into the urban building stock and avoid unnecessary demolition and *** tools for judging building adaptability based on physical characteristics have recently been *** most common approach for these tools is to use a weighted-sum of scores for different *** primary purpose of this paper was to compare a weighted-sum measurement approach against a more rigorous,less abstract measurement that involved judgements about simulated adaptation projects(called an example-based approach).These measurements were performed through expert elicitation and an analytic hierarchy process(AHP)survey,where participants evaluated the relative adaptability of four case study buildings from the Clemson University *** results showed significant correlation between the weighted-sum approach and the example-based approach,supporting the reasonableness of using weighted-sum approaches to evaluate the adaptive potential of building *** addition,a separate group of experts rated adaptability of the case study buildings by providing qualitative reasons for their *** the other approaches,this group was not given a specific tool to guide their *** qualitative data provided additional context for understanding results from the quantitative approaches.

Effect of esketamine on reducing postpartum pain and depression

In this editorial,we comment on a recent article by Chen et al,that addressed the effect of intraoperative injection of esketamine on postoperative analgesia and postoperative rehabilitation after cesarean *** management of postcesarean pain is associated with decreased maternal care for the baby,longer hospitalization,and higher risk of developing postpartum *** is a more potent S-enantiomer of ketamine which has shown promising analgesic and antidepressant properties for managing post-cesarean pain and depression in clinical ***,due to its potential adverse effects on the neurological and hemodynamic status of patients,it is recommended that its usage in low doses should be limited to cesarean candidates experiencing unbearable *** any recommendation for routine perioperative use of esketamine,more standardized clinical trials are needed to strengthen our existing knowledge of its effectiveness in reducing postpartum pain and depression.

Taxane resistance in castration-resistant prostate cancer: mechanisms and therapeutic strategies

Despite its good initial response and significant survival benefit in patients with castrationresistant prostate cancer(CRPC), taxane therapy inevitably encounters drug resistance in all *** understandings of taxane resistant mechanisms can significantly facilitate the development of new therapeutic strategies to overcome taxane resistance and improve CRPC patient survival. Multiple pathways of resistance have been identified as potentially crucial areas of intervention. First, taxane resistant tumor cells typically have mutated microtubule binding sites, varying tubulin isotype expression,and upregulation of efflux transporters. These mechanisms contribute to reducing binding affinity and availability of taxanes. Second, taxane resistant tumors have increased stem cell like characteristics,indicating higher potential for further mutation in response to therapy. Third, the androgen receptor pathway is instrumental in the proliferation of CRPC and multiple hypotheses leading to this pathway reactivation have been reported. The connection of this pathway to the AkT pathway has received significant attention due to the upregulation of phosphorylated AkT in CRPC. This review highlights recent advances in elucidating taxane resistant mechanisms and summarizes potential therapeutic strategies for improved treatment of CRPC.

BACkGROUND: Oligoanalgesia in emergency departments (EDs) is multifactorial. A previousstudy reported that emergency providers did not adequately manage patients with severe paindespite objective findings for surgical pathologies. Our study aims to investigate clinical andlaboratory factors, in addition to providers’ interventions, that might have been associated witholigoanalgesia in a group of ED patients with moderate and severe pains due to surgical ***: We conducted a retrospective study of adult patients who were transferred directlyfrom referring EDs to the emergency general surgery (EGS) service at a quaternary academic centerbetween January 2014 and December 2016. Patients who were intubated, did not have adequaterecords, or had mild pain were excluded. The primary outcome was refractory pain, which wasdefi ned as pain reduction kelihood of refractory ***: In ED patients transferring to EGS service, elevated serum lactate levelswere associated with a higher likelihood of refractory pain.
