Light Electrospun Polyvinylpyrrolidone Blanket for Low Frequencies Sound Absorption

Light polymeric soundproofing materials （density = 63 kg/m3） of interest for the transportation industry were fabricated through electrospinning. Blankets of electrospun polyvinylpyrrolidone （average fiber diameter = （1.6 ± 0.5） or （2.8 ± 0.5） μm） were obtained by stacking disks of electrospun mats. The sound absorption coefficients were measured using the impedance tube instrument based on ASTM E1050 and ISO 10534-2. For a given set of disks （from a minimum of 6） the sound absorption coefficient changed with the frequency （in the range 200-1600 Hz） following a bell shape curve with a maximum （where the coefficient is greater than 0.9） that shifts to lower frequencies at higher piled disks number and greater fiber diameter. This work showed that electrospinning produced sound absorbers with reduced thickness （2-3 cm） and excellent sound-absorption properties in the low and medium frequency range.

Dietary and metabolomic determinants of relapse in ulcerative colitis patients: A pilot prospective cohort study

AIM To identify demographic, clinical, metabolomic, and lifestyle related predictors of relapse in adult ulcerative colitis(Uc) *** In this prospective pilot study, Uc patients in clinical remission were recruited and followed-up at 12 mo to assess a clinical relapse, or not. At baseline information on demographic and clinical parameters was collected. Serum and urine samples were collected for analysis of metabolomic assays using a combined direct infusion/liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resolution spectroscopy. Stool samples were also collected to measure fecal calprotectin(FcP). Dietary assessment was performed using a validated self-administered food frequency questionnaire. RESULTS Twenty patients were included(mean age: 42.7 ± 14.8 years, females: 55%). Seven patients(35%) experienced a clinical relapse during the follow-up period. While 6 patients(66.7%) with normal body weight developed a clinical relapse, 1 Uc patient(9.1%) who was overweight/obese relapsed during the follow-up(P = 0.02). At baseline, poultry intake was significantly higher in patients who were still in remission during follow-up(0.9 oz vs 0.2 oz, P = 0.002). Five patients(71.4%) with FcP > 150 μg/g and 2 patients(15.4%) with normal FcP(≤ 150 μg/g) at baseline relapsed during the follow-up(P = 0.02). Interestingly, baseline urinary and serum metabolomic profiling of Uc patients with or without clinical relapse within 12 mo showed a significant difference. The most important metabolites that were responsible for this discrimination were trans-aconitate, cystine and acetamide in urine, and 3-hydroxybutyrate, acetoacetate and acetone in serum. cOncLUSIOn A combination of baseline dietary intake, fecal calprotectin, and metabolomic factors are associated with risk of Uc clinical relapse within 12 mo.

Low platelet count: Predictor of death and graft loss after liver transplantation

BAcKGROUnD The impact of platelets on liver transplantation(LT) is well recognized, but not completely understood. Platelets exert dichotomous effects on the graft and on the patient. On the one hand, they are essential for primary hemostasis and tissue repair and regeneration. On the other hand, they support ischemia/reperfusion injury and inflammatory processes. Recent evidence has shown a new role for platelet count(Pc) in predicting outcomes after *** To evaluate if low Pc is a predictor of short-and long-term outcomes after *** Four hundred and eighty consecutive LT patients were retrospectively *** from the preoperative to the seventh postoperative day(POD) were considered. c-statistic analysis defined the ideal cutoff point for Pc. cox regression was performed to check whether low Pc was a predictor of death,retransplantation or primary changes in graft function within one year after *** The highest median Pc was 86 × 109/L [interquartile range(IQR) = 65–100 ×109/L] on seventh POD, and the lowest was 51 × 109/L(IQR = 38–71 × 109/L) on third POD. The c-statistic defined a Pc n fifth POD as the ideal cutoff point for predicting death and retransplantation. In the multivariate analysis, platelets n 5 POD was an independent risk factor for death at 12 mo after LT [hazard ratio(HR) = 2.01; 95% confidence interval(cI) 1.06-3.79;P = 0.031]. In the cox regression, patients with Pc n 5 POD had worse graft survival rates up to one year after LT(HR = 2.76; 95%cI 1.52-4.99; P =0.001).cOncLUSIOn Pc n 5 POD is an independent predictor of death in the first year after LT. These results are in agreement with other studies that indicate that low Pc after LT is associated with negative outcomes.

Knowledge graphs are employed in several tasks,such as question answering and recommendation systems,due to their ability to represent relationships between *** constructing such a graphs,however,remains an unresolved challenge within knowledge *** tackle this challenge,we propose ctxKG,a method specifically aimed at extracting knowledge graphs in a context of limited resources in which the only input is a set of unstructured text *** is based on OpenIE(a relationship triple extraction method)and BERT(a language model)and contains four stages:the extraction of relationship triples directly from text;the identification of synonyms across triples;the merging of similar entities;and the building of bridges between knowledge graphs of different *** method distinguishes itself from those in the current literature(i)through its use of the parse tree to avoid the overlapping entities produced by base implementations of OpenIE;and(ii)through its bridges,which create a connected network of graphs,overcoming a limitation similar methods have of one isolated graph per *** compare our method to two others by generating graphs for movie articles from Wikipedia and contrasting them with benchmark graphs built from the OMDb movie *** results suggest that our method is able to improve multiple aspects of knowledge graph *** also highlight the critical role that triple identification and named-entity recognition have in improving the quality of automatically generated graphs,suggesting future paths for ***,we apply ctxKG to build BlabKG,a knowledge graph for the Blue Amazon,and discuss possible improvements.

Significant association between ABO blood group and pancreatic cancer

AIM:To evaluate whether the ABO blood group is related to pancreatic cancer risk in the general population of the United ***:Using the University of Pittsburgh's clinicalpancreatic cancer registry,the blood donor database from our local blood bank (central Blood Bank),and the blood product recipient database from the regional transfusion service (centralized Transfusion Service) in Pittsburgh,Pennsylvania,we identified 274 pancreatic cancer patients with previously determined serological ABO blood group *** ABO blood group frequency was compared between these patients and 708842 individual,community-based blood donors who had made donations to Pittsburgh's central Blood Bank between 1979 and ***:The frequency of blood group A was statistically significantly higher amongst pancreatic cancer patients compared to its frequency amongst the regional blood donors [47.63% vs 39.10%,odds ratio (OR)=1.43,P=0.004].conversely,the frequency of blood group O was significantly lower amongst pancreatic cancer patients relative to the community blood donors (32.12% vs 43.99%,OR=0.60,P=0.00007).There were limited blood group B (n=38) and AB (n=17) pancreatic cancer patients;the overall P trend value comparing patient to donor blood groups was ***:The ABO blood group is associated with pancreatic cancer *** studies should examine the mechanism linking pancreatic cancer risk to ABO blood group.

Mechanical alloying (MA), a solid-state powder processing method, is a 'far from equilibrium' synthesis technique which allows development of novel crystal structures and microstructures, leading to enhanced physical and mechanical properties. The ability to synthesize a variety of alloy phases including supersaturated solid solutions, nanocrystalline structures, amorphous phases and intermetallic compounds themselves is discussed. no extension of solubility using MA has been observed in the intermetallics studied. nanostructured grains were observed in all compositions. Long time milling generally resulted in amorphous phase formation in large part because of the increase in grain boundary energy/mole with reduced grain size; good agreement with the Miedema model for amorphization was obtained in the Al-Fe system. Generally an anneal was required to form the intermetallic after MA; however,intermetallics with a large negative enthalpy of formation were detected in the MA condition. A study of the hot isostatic pressing of γ-TiAl powders produced by MA demonstrated that full density can be achieved at least 400℃ below the normal temperature required for conventional powder, that is 725℃ or below. nanometered sized grains (≤100nm)were observed after HIP'ing up to 850℃.
