Autotomy has evolved independently several times in different animal *** frequently involves immediate functional costs,so regeneration evolved in many instances to restore the functionality of that body *** autotomy is a widespread antipredator strategy in lizards,although it may affect energy storage,locomotion dynamics,or survival in future encounters with ***,we assessed the effect of tail loss on the locomotor performance of wall lizards(Podarcis muralis),as well as the recovery of locomotor functionality of lizards with regenerated tails,and the movement dynamics of shed tails that were either intact or having regenerated *** loss had no effect on locomotion over unhindered spaces,possibly due to compensation between a negative effect on the stride of front limbs,and a positive effect of losing mass and friction *** found a clear negative impact of tail loss on locomotion in spaces with interspersed obstacles,in which tailed lizards jumped larger distances when leaving the ***,lizards that used the tail to push off the ground were able to approach the obstacles from further,so that the tail seemed to be useful when used during *** fully restores lizard’s locomotor capacities,but tail antipredator value,as indicated by the intensity of post-autotomic movements,is only partially *** these results,we propose that,together with the recovery of post-autotomy antipredator capacities,the restoration of the organismal locomotor performance may have been an important,yet frequently neglected factor in the evolution of lizard’s regeneration ability.

Limestones are generally vulnerable to various weathering effects, hence, protection and consolidation of them is necessary. Locally available limestones of Northern Cyprus have been used in both historical buildings dated back to the 16th century for conservation applications and new buildings mostly as a cladding material. However, certain decay patterns exist on these stones. In the current study, the service life of Cyprus stones was inspected. Alkoxysilane-based consolidation and protection treatments were applied on new quarried stones to enhance the stone properties and aged stones to conserve and protect the architectural heritage. Service life assessment was performed by applying accelerated aging tests on both new and aged stones before and after treatments. The treatments improved the physical, mechanical and durability properties of the stones in terms of unchanging the water vapor diffusion resistance factor, decreasing the porosity and the water absorption ratio, increasing the ultrasound pulse velocity, the compressive and the flexural strengths, and improving the resistance of the stones against wetting-drying, freeze-thaw, salt crystallization and SO2 vapour effects. The combination of consolidation and protection treatment (K2) was more efficient on the properties of the stones compared to only protection treatment (K1) due to the better penetration capacity, higher decreasing ratio of the porosity, and higher improvement of the physical, mechanical and durability proper-ties. The treatments also improved the properties of the aged stones;thus, it may be inferred that treatment would benefit the conservation of historical buildings.

Criticisms of the data that have been presented to demonstrate a decline in sperm counts over time reveal problems with semen analysis methods and a lack of understanding of the genetic and environmental factors that determine a man＇s sperm count. Potential sources of error in the WHO semen analysis protocol and some areas of ignorance about the biological and environmental factors which can influence sperm counts are briefly discussed. I con- clude that there is a need to include semen analyses in a large cohort study to fill the gaps in our knowledge.

Carbon dioxide partial pressures(pCO 2) and CO 2 fluxes on air water interface in different trophic level areas of Taihu Lake were calculated and corrected using alkalinity, pH, ionic strength, active coefficient, water temperature and wind speed on the basis of the data sets of monthly sampling in 1998 The mean values of pCO 2 in the hypertrophic, eutrophic, and mesotrophic areas are 1807 8±1025 8(mean±standard deviation) μatm, 416 3±207 8 μatm, and 448 5±194 0 μatm,respectively. A maximum and minimum pCO\-2 values were found in the hypertrophic(4053 7 μatm) and the eutrophic(3 2 μatm) areas. There was about one magnitude order of difference in mean CO\-2 fluxes between the hypertrophic area(27 3±17 4 mmol/(m\+2·d)) and the eutrophic(1 99±4 50 mmol/(m\+2·d)) and mesotrophic (2 22±4 31 mmol/(m\+2·d)) areas. But there was no significant difference between eutrophic and mesotrophic areas in pCO 2 and the flux of CO 2 In respect to CO 2 equilibrium, input of the rivers will obviously influence inorganic carbon distribution in the riverine estuary. An exponential relationship between the pCO 2 values and chlorophyll a concentrations was obtained( r =0 8356, n =60) in eutrophic bay. Results suggested that lake ecosystems, also may be considered as unique aggregation, which can contain and be patient of different components that have their relative independence so long as its size enough to large. A productive lake, though it has positive fluxes of CO 2 to atmosphere during the most of time, is a huge and permanent sink of carbon in terrestrial ecosystems through receiving a great quantity of carbon materials via rivers, precipitation, and biological production.

AIM: To compare and evaluate the clinical outcomes of deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty(DALK) and excimer laser assisted anterior lamellar keratoplasty(ELLK) in eyes with ***: In this study, 57 eyes of 56 patients operated between 2013 to 2017 were included. Thirty-one eyes underwent big-bubble DALK and twenty-six eyes underwent ELLK. Preoperative and at control visits complete ophthalmic examination was performed. RESULTS: The mean patient age at the time of DALK surgery was 27 y and mean follow-up period was 21±5.4 mo. The mean patient age at the time of ELLK surgery was 27 y and mean follow-up period was 40±18 mo. Mean best spectacle corrected visual acuity(BSCVA) at postoperative period was significantly higher for DALK group(0.66±0.11) versus ELLK group(0.4±0.2)(Pbrane microperforation was occurred in 7 patients in DALK group versus in 1 patient in ELLK group. In 4 eyes, interface irregularity was developed in ELLK group. None of the patients in follow-up had graft rejection in both ***: In ELLK group, complication rate is lower, the surgical technique is simpler, faster and safer and also ELLK requires less experience with respect to DALK. Further, DALK can be performed unless satisfactory visual acuity is achieved after ELLK.

As a formability analysis tool, this technology is the major methodology for the development of stamping expert system (solution provider) for (a) product design and feasibility analysis, (b) material automatic selection using nomograms, (c) draw die design using pre-models, and (d) UF and robustness analysis of die performance in finite element analysis (FEA) environment.

Objective:To prepare and characterize polycaprolactone(PCL)nanoparticles loaded with sonicator fragmented(SLA)and freeze-thaw Leishmania antigens(FTLA)and to investigate the in vitro immunogenicity of antigen-encapsulated nanoparticles with calcium phosphate ***:The water/oil/water binary emulsion solvent evaporation method was used to synthesize antigen-loaded PCL *** were characterized by scanning electron microscopy and zeta potential *** cytotoxicity in J774 macrophages in vitro was determined by MTT *** addition,the amount of nitric oxide and the level of cytokines produced by macrophages were determined by Griess reaction and ELISA method,*** protective effect of the developed formulations was evaluated by determining the infection index percentage in macrophages infected with Leishmania ***:Compared to the control group,SLA PCL and FTLA PCL nanoparticles with calcium phosphate adjuvant induced a 6-and 7-fold increase in nitric oxide,***,the vaccine formulations promoted the production of IFN-γand *** PCL and FTLA PCL nanoparticles combined with calcium phosphate adjuvant caused an approximately 13-and 11-fold reduction in infection index,respectively,compared to the control ***:The encapsulation of antigens obtained by both sonication and freeze-thawing into PCL nanoparticles and the formulations with calcium phosphate adjuvant show strong in vitro immune stimulating ***,PCL-based antigen delivery systems and calcium phosphate adjuvant are recommended as a potential vaccine candidate against leishmaniasis.

Recent advances in biological therapies have revolutionalised and redefined treatment targets in inflammatory bowel disease(IBD).There is now a stronger emphasis on achieving the more stringent therapeutic goals of mucosal and histological healing,rather than clinical remission ***,the treatment of refractory“functional”gastrointestinal symptoms,often attributed as the aftermath of previous inflammation,has recently become more prominent in quiescent *** further expected advances in anti-inflammatory treatments on the horizon,the burden of such symptoms in quiescent disease,which have been relatively neglected,is set to become an even bigger *** this article,we highlight the current state of research and understanding in this field,including recent developments and clinical practice guidelines on the diagnosis and management of functional gastrointestinal symptoms,such as irritable bowel syndrome and functional anorectal and pelvic floor disorders,in patients with quiescent *** disorders are not only highly prevalent in these patients,they are often misdiagnosed,and are difficult to treat,with very few evidence-based ***,they are associated with substantial impairment in quality-of-life,considerable morbidity,and psychological *** is therefore an urgent need for a change in emphasis towards earlier recognition,positive diagnosis,and targeted treatment for patients with ongoing functional gastrointestinal symptoms in the absence of active *** article also highlights the need for further research to develop much needed evidence-based therapies.
