Background: Hypertensive patients with insulin resistance (IR) are at greater risk of cardiovascular disease and may represent a particular subset of hypertension (HTN) requiring special medical attention. Quantitative measurements of the IR are not suitable for routine clinical practice. Met-abolic syndrome (MetS) or simply abdominal obesity (AO) is surrogate of IR. The performance of the recently proposed Sub-Saharan Africa cut-off point of abdominal obesity for identifying IR in hypertensive patients has never been evaluated. Aims: The main objective was to compare the performance of the newly proposed Sub-Saharan Africa specific threshold of abdominal obesity (AO-SSA) to that of IDF (AO-IDF) in identifying IR in Congolese Black Hypertensive Patients. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted at the Heart of Africa Cardiovascular Center, Lomo Medical Clinic, Kinshasa Limete, DR Congo, between January 2007 and January 2010. Homeostatic model assessment (HOMA) index was calculated to determine IR. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to assess the independent determinants of IR. The intrinsic (sensitivity and specificity) and extrinsic (positive predictive value and negative predictive value) characteristics of the AO-SSA, AO-IDF, AO-ATP III, MetS-SSA, MetS-IDF, and MetS-ATP III were calculated. The kappa statistic was determined for agreement between the ATPIII, IDF and SSA defined AO and MetS with HOMA-IR. Results: Men represented the majority of the enrolled patients: 105 (64.4%) and the mean age of all participants were 57 ± 11 years. Insulin resistance was found in 79.1% of the study population with 88.7, 79.3, 84.6, 71.4, 75.5, 91.1, 60.3 and 44.8 respectively among patient with MetS-ATP, MetS-IDF, MetS-SSA, AO-ATP III, AO-IDF, AO-SSA, diabetics and non-obese non-diabetic hypertensive patients. Given the extremely high inter-patient heterogeneity of acute myeloid leukemia(AML),the identification of biomarkers for prognostic assessment and therapeutic guidance is *** surface markers(CSMs)have been shown to play an important role in AML leukemogenesis and *** the current study,we evaluated the prognostic potential of all human CSMs in 130 AML patients from The Cancer Genome Atlas(TCGA)based on differential gene expression analysis and univariable Cox proportional hazards regression *** using multi-model analysis,including Adaptive LASSO regression,LASSO regression,and Elastic Net,we constructed a 9-CSMs prognostic model for risk stratification of the AML *** predictive value of the 9-CSMs risk score was further validated at the transcriptome and proteome *** Cox regression analysis showed that the risk score was an independent prognostic factor for the AML *** AML patients with high 9-CSMs risk scores had a shorter overall and event-free survival time than those with low ***,single-cell RNA-sequencing analysis indicated that patients with high 9-CSMs risk scores exhibited chemotherapy ***,PI3K inhibitors were identified as potential treatments for these high-risk *** conclusion,we constructed a 9-CSMs prognostic model that served as an independent prognostic factor for the survival of AML patients and held the potential for guiding drug therapy.

Afforestation has been observed as a green trend in urban areas. The incorporation of trees in urban infrastructure is highly recommended to act as a solution to outlined environmental problems such as global warming. However, it has been precipitously introduced in cities, towns, and metropolitans. The introduction of the green practice was so abrupt that it became devoid to meeting the essential needs for tree growth, thus, failing to bring out the desired effects. Inappropriately selecting and planting trees in urban spaces has resulted in stressed trees that are deficient at reaching up to the calculated goals and in the long run end up being problematic. The main objective of this study is to evaluate the implications of planting southern live oak (Quercus virginiana) trees in the wrong urban space so as to aid in recommending sustainable green solutions for the urban community. By studying southern live oaks planted in Howell Community Park and three randomly selected areas in Southern University Baton Rouge Campus, this study analyzes how the selection of these tree species in the urban spaces influenced their growth and general well-being. These urban spaces were randomly drafted based on accessibility and availability of several southern live oaks. Planting approaches in the four study areas were explored and the general health condition of the trees was determined using the tree appraisal method presented by the i-tree model: my tree. ArcGIS collector was used to collect the GPS coordinates of the trees and ArcMap was used to generate the maps of the study areas. ArcMap software geolocated the coordinates of the southern live oaks in all the four-study areas. The software was used to generate shapefiles of the four study areas and their location in East Baton Rouge. We studied seed germination and seedling growth performance in an economically and socially important fruit tree species Vitellaria paradoxa C.F. Gaertn. subsp. nilotica (shea tree) in Uganda. The study aimed at determining variations in germination among five shea tree seed provenances and seedling growth performance based on five growth traits (total height, root collar diameter, leaf length, leaf width and leaf petiole length). Five populations were considered from four agroecological zones comprising of 180 candidate “plus” trees. The seed trees consisted of 16 ethnovarieties selected based on their traits for fast growth and high oil yield. A total of 1,204 biological seeds were collected and sown in a tree nursery at Ngetta Zonal Agricultural Research and Development Institute during the month of June 2018 in a randomized incomplete block design with three replications. Significant variation (χ = 708;p < 0.01) was observed in seedling phenotypic traits within and between populations. Regression equation for height growth and leaf size index were given as y = 0.3787 + 12.671x and y = 0.6483 + 15.413x respectively. Root collar diameter was more correlated to leaf size index (0.425) than to height growth (0.30). Clustering of shea tree seedlings based on phenotypic growth traits revealed one aggregated cluster indicating that most of the seedlings from the five populations were similar (Jaccard index 0.92, p < 0.01). However, clustering based on SNP markers revealed three different populations. We recorded higher growth (χ = 708;p < 0.001) in Arua shea population. Red seeded;thin pulped and hairy fruited shea tree ethnovarieties recorded faster growth than the rest. The results reveal useful traits in selection for tree growth and further identified shea tree ethnovarieties that could be selected for fast growth.

Moringa oleifera Lam(Moringaceae) is a plant with high nutritional and medicinal value. Native to India, it is now widely distributed throughout tropical and subtropical regions of the world. Its different parts are sources of proteins, vitamins and minerals and present different pharmacological and biotechnological potential. Moreover, M. oleifera seeds are widely used in water and effluent treatment, for their coagulation, flocculation and sedimentation properties, their ability of improving water quality, by reducing organic matter and microbial load, with special applicability in intensive animal production systems, such as aquaculture. In addition, due to its high nutritional value and several medicinal properties, this tree may act as a nutritional and medical alternative for socially neglected populations. In this context, this review gathers information on M. oleifera, emphasizing its chemical constituents, nutritional, pharmacological and antimicrobial properties, applications in the treatment of water effluents, and ecological and social aspects.

Background: Organic cellular inflammatory response constitutes a pathophysiological mechanism present in all Coronary Artery Bypass Graftings (CABGs). In this aspect, the organism brings forth its defenses through answers that involve cellular components. Objectives: To evaluate, in a randomized double-blind prospective study, controlled with placebo, the effects of trimetazidine (Tmz) on cellular response, analyzed through the variation of leukocytes, neutrophils and monocytes. Patients and Method: 30 patients were randomly selected to be studied, with no more than a mild ventricular dysfunction, and divided into two groups (Tmz and placebo) stratified by echocardiography and receiving medication/placebo in a 60 mg/day dose. The samples of leukocytes, neutrophils and monocytes were obtained in the pre-operatory day without medication, at surgery day with 12 to 15 days of medication/placebo, with 5 minutes after the aortic declamping, and within 12, 24 and 48 hours after surgery. Results: The leukocytes and neutrophils levels have decreased significantly in the treated group when compared to the control group, in all analyzed moments (p = 0.012;p = 0.005). Conclusions and Clinical Implications: Trimetazidine has proved to reduce significantly the levels of total leukocytes and neutrophils in patients submitted to CABG.

Flooding is becoming a yearly reoccurring event in many communities and cities in Nigeria, leading to the destruction of properties and deaths;hence, we must take measures to either prepare for the impact or curb the occurrence. The study identified flood vulnerability levels of communities in Isoko North LGA based on physical environmental domains such as land use, elevation, and proximity to river channel (drainage) using geospatial techniques. Also, attributes that could contribute to the resilience capacity building of the communities were assessed. From the study, 73.93% of the entire area is moderately and highly vulnerable to flood, while among the communities, seventeen (17) are categorized as moderately vulnerable, and four (4) are lowly vulnerable. The overall resilience capacity of the communities indicated can build a substantial capacity towards community resilience (3.02, 0.06). However, there is a need to encourage collaboration with stakeholders to improve mitigation action and enhance various shortcomings toward resilience capacity building.
