Gold supported on Metal Oxides for Carbon Monoxide Oxidation

Au has been loaded （1% wt.） on different commercial oxide supports （CuO, La2O3, Y2O3, NiO） by three different methods： double impregnation （DIM）, liquid-phase reductive deposition （LPRD）, and ultrasonication （Us）. samples were characterised by N2 adsorption at -196℃, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, selected area electron diffraction, energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry, high-angle annular dark-field imaging （Z-contrast）, X-ray diffraction, and temperature programmed reduction. CO oxidation was used as a test reaction to compare the catalytic activities. The best results were obtained with Au loaded by DIM on the NiO support, with an activity of 7.2 × 10^（-4） molco·gAu^（-1）·s^（-1） at room temperature. This is most likely related to the Au nanoparticle size being the smallest in this catalyst （average 4.8 nm）, since it is well known that gold particle size determines the catalytic activity. Other samples, having larger Au particle sizes （in the 2-12 nm range, with average sizes ranging from 4.8 to 6.8 nm）, showed lower activities. Nevertheless, all samples prepared by DIM had activities （from 1.1 × 10^（-4） to 7.2 × 10^（-4） molco·gAu^（-1）·s^（-1）, at room temperature） above those reported in the literature for gold on similar oxide supports. Therefore, this method gives better results than the most usual methods of deposition-precipitation or co-precipitation.

In the present work, the synthesis of micro- and nano-sized spheres of metallic bismuth by microwave-assisted solvothermal method is reported. The synthesis method was carried out at different power levels and at a unique frequency of microwave irradiation. The sphere sizes were controlled by the microwave power level and the concentration of dissolved precursor. structural and morphological characterization was performed by sEM, HRTEM, EELs and XRD. The results demonstrated that rhombohedral zero valent Bi spheres were synthesized after microwave radiation at 600 and 1200 W. However, if the power level is decreased to 120 W, a monoclinic phase of Bi203 is obtained with a flake-like morphology. In comparison with a conventional hydrothermal process, the microwave-assisted solvothermal approach provides many advantages such as shorter reaction time, optimum manipulation of morphologies and provides a specific chemical phase and avoids the mixture of structural phases and morphologies which is essential for further applications such as drug delivery or functionalization with organic materials, thanks to its biocompatibility.

Comparison of the patient and partner satisfaction with 700CX and Titan penile prostheses

Most widespread three-component penile prosthesis models are 700CXTM and Titan~. Our purpose is to assess patient and partner satisfaction after the first implant. This is a multicenter, retrospective, nonrandomized study in which all patients who met the inclusion criteria between 2009 and 2013 were included. In total, 248 patients agreed to participate. To evaluate patient satisfaction, a validated but modified 11-question questionnaire was completed （EDITs）; and a nonvalidated two-item questionnaire was given to the partner. statistical analysis used an ordinal logistic regression model. Two hundred and forty-eight patients （194 with 700CXTM vs 54 with Titan） and 207 couples completed the questionnaire （165 with 700CXTM vs 42 with Titan）. Overall satisfaction was high. Both showed great reliability for sexual intercourse and high compliance with prior expectations. Most patients were able to manage the penile prosthesis correctly within 6 months. Postoperative penile shortening led to some dissatisfaction in 42% and 46% of cases （700CX/Titan）. significant differences were found in three questions of patients＇ questionnaire. There were more patients satisfied with the 700CXTM （P= 0.0001）. No patient with Titan implant took longer than 6 months to optimal management. Only 4% of patients with 700CXTM implant were dissatisfied with the deflation, in contrast to 24% with the Titan （P = 0.0031）. Of the two partners＇ questions, one showed a statistically significant difference （P = 0.0026）. It seems that group 700CX＂ would recommend to re-implant the prosthesis with a greater tendency. The overall satisfaction was very high for both prostheses. The final aspect of the erected and flaccid penis was satisfactory, but both groups showed significant discontent with its final size. Partners＇ overall satisfaction was high.

Purpose:This study aimed to quantify the dose-response association and the minimal effective dose of leisure-time physical activity(PA)to prevent mortality and cardiovascular disease in adults with type 2 ***:Cross-country comparison of 2 prospective cohort studies including 14,913 and 17,457 population-based adults with type 2 diabetes from the UK and *** leisure-time PA was self-reported and categorized by metabolic equivalent hours per week(MET-h/week)according to World Health Organization recommendations:none,below recommendation(>0-7.49 MET-h/week);at recommended level(7.5-14.9 MET-h/week);above recommendation(>15 MET-h/week).Mortality and cardiovascular disease data were obtained from national ***:During a median follow-up of 12.4 and 9.7 years,in the UK and China cohorts,repectively,higher levels of leisure-time PA were inversely associated with all-cause(1571 and 2351 events)and cardiovascular mortality(392 and 1060 events),mostly consistent with a linear dose-response *** below,at,and above recommendations,compared with no activity,yielded all-cause mortality hazard ratios of0.94(95%confidence interval(95%CI):0.79-1.12),0.90(95%CI:0.74-1.10),and 0.85(95%CI:0.70-1.02)in British adults and 0.87(95%CI:0.68-1.10),0.88(95%CI:0.74-1.03),and 0.77(95%CI:0.70-0.85)in Chinese *** with cardiovascular mortality were more pronounced in British adults(0.80(95%CI:0.58-1.11),0.75(95%CI:0.52-1.09),and 0.69(95%CI:0.48-0.97))but less pronounced in Chinese adults(1.06(95%CI:0.76-1.47),1.01(95%CI:0.80-1.28),and 0.79(95%CI:0.69-0.92)).PA at recommended levels was not associated with lower rates of major adverse cardiovascular events(2345 and 4458 events).Conclusion:Leisure-time PA at the recommended levels was not convincingly associated with lower mortality and had no association with risk of major adverse cardiovascular events in British or Chinese adults with type 2 ***-time PA above current recom

Bloom-forming cyanobacteria and dinoflagellates in five Argentinian reservoirs:Multi-year sampling

Harmful algal blooms are important threats to reservoir *** a 15-year period,we sampled five Argentinian reservoirs to identify the responsible species for harmful algal blooms and determine the water quality factors driving their *** reservoirs exhibit diverse morphological and hydrological characteristics and are distributed across varying climatic *** blooms included an array of species,including toxin producers such as Raphidiopsis raciborskii,Aphanizomenon gracile,and Microcystis *** contrast,dinoflagellate blooms were predominantly characterized by *** cyanobacterial blooms primarily occurred in the shallower reservoirs located in warmer regions,whereas dinoflagellate blooms occurred where temperatures were *** most intense blooms occurred during the summer,and although cyanobacterial and chlorophyte blooms co-occurred,they never coexisted with dinoflagellate *** identified cyanotoxins in the reservoirs over the past three years,a phenomenon previously unreported in the *** that these reservoirs are drinking water sources for human populations,ongoing and systematic monitoring is needed to protect public *** the proliferation of algae and cyanobacteria in reservoirs requires resource management at the watershed level,and in the case of the Itiyuro and El Limon,requires binational management with Bolivia.

Anti-inflammatory effects of Mangifera indica *** in a model of colitis

AIM:To investigate the effect of aqueous extract from Mangifera indica L.(MIE)on dextran sulfate sodium (Dss)-induced colitis in ***:MIE(150 mg/kg)was administered in two different protocols:(1)rectally,over 7 d at the same time as Dss administration;and(2)once daily over 14 d (by oral gavage,7 d before starting Dss,and rectally for 7 d during Dss administration).General observations of clinical signs were ***-inflammatory activity of MIE was assessed by myeloperoxidase(MPO)activity. Colonic lipid peroxidation was determined by measuring the levels of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARs).Reduced glutathione(GsH)levels,expression of inflammatory related mediators[inducible isoforms of nitric oxide synthase(iNOs)and cyclooxygenase (COX)-2,respectively]and cytokines[tumor necrosis factor(TNF)-αand TNF receptors 1 and 2]in colonic tissue were also ***(IL)-6 and TNF-α serum levels were also measured. REsULTs:The results demonstrated that MIE has anti-inflammatory properties by improvement of clinical signs,reduction of ulceration and reduced MPO activity when administered before *** addition,administration of MIE for 14 d resulted in an increase in GsH and reduction of TBARs levels and iNOs,COX-2, TNF-αand TNF R-2 expression in colonic tissue,and a decrease in IL-6 and TNF-αserum levels. CONCLUsION:MIE has anti-inflammatory activity in a Dss-induced rat colitis model and preventive administration(prior to Dss)seems to be a more effective protocol.

Last Planner system and scrum: Comparative analysis and suggestions for adjustments

This study provides a critical review of the concepts of Agile,Lean,scrum,and Last Planner®system(LPs).A comparative analysis is conducted between LPs and scrum to expand LPs by considering scrum’s best *** dimensions,namely,1)origins,2)main purpose,3)overall system/framework process,4)tools or artifacts maintained by the team,5)team composition and main roles,6)regular events or team meetings,7)metrics/dashboards,and 8)approach to learning,are *** analyzing side by side the eight dimensions,it was found that many aspects from scrum already exist in LPs in the same or similar ***,the authors identify four main elements from scrum that can be leveraged to improve the LPs benchmark,such as considering the scrum“Increment”concept into LPs,having a clear definition of roles and responsibilities,or adding an equivalent to a scrum Master to have a designated"rule keeper”in *** opportunities to be considered in new LPs benchmarks need to be tested and validated with real *** the best of the authors5 knowledge,this work is the first to comprehensively compare scrum(Agile)and LPs(Lean)and could be seen as a contribution toward the evolution of the Last Planner system for the academic and industrial environments.

Controllable Biosynthesis of small silver Nanoparticles Using Fungal Extract

The search for reliable and eco-friendly methods for the production of nanoscale materials is an important aspect of nanotechnology. silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) are of special interest because of their antimicrobial properties, especially those of small size. In this work, AgNPs were produced under different conditions of temperature and pH using the extract from the fungus Neurospora crassa as reducing agent. Mainly quasi-spherical particles were obtained at all incubation conditions. However, optimum conditions to produce small sizes in the range of 2 - 9 nm were at 4°C and pH 3, also particles of 2 - 22 nm were obtained at 25°C with unmodified pH (6.5) and pH 10. Nevertheless, only particles synthesized at 25°C and pH 10 maintained the same size range after storage of 10 months. In summary, optimal incubation conditions for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles of small size range are reported. This improves the storage time of particles without losing its original size and without going into aggregation or agglomeration.
