We investigated the perform.nce trade-offs of fleas(Siphonaptera)while adapting to a novel host using two host generalists(Xenopsylla conform.s and Xenopsylla ram.sis)and one host specialist(Parapulex chephrenis)m.intained on their principal hosts(m.riones crassus for Xenopsylla and Acom.s cahirinus for ***).We asked whether,over generations,(i)a host generalist m.y becom. a specialist by evolving the ability to exploit a novel host and losing the ability to exploit an original host and(ii)a host specialist can becom. a generalist by evolving the ability to exploit a novel host without losing the ability to exploit an original *** established an experim.ntal line of each species on a novel host(Acom.s russatus for Xenopsylla and *** for ***)and m.intained this line on this host during 23 *** com.ared reproductive perform.nce of progenitors of each line and their descendants when they exploited either original or novel host in term. of egg num.er and size,hatching success,offspring production,and offspring *** found changes in perform.nce over generations in fem.le offspring size *** conform.s dem.nstrated a tendency to becom. a host specialist(increased perform.nce on the novel host with a concom.tant decreased perform.nce on the original host),whereas *** dem.nstrated a tendency to becom. a host generalist(increased perform.nce on the novel host without a concom.tant decreased perform.nce on the original host).We conclude that the probability of generalist to specialist transition,and vice versa,is context-dependent and varies between species.

Patents [1-3] are proposed for consideration, as their introduction will allow to control continuously the active weight of a colum. of m.lting m.terials in the upper half of the shaft （Kw）, the thickness of a blanket of kish in the lower part of the shaft and the bosh, and height and radius of inactive m.terials in the hearth. Through controlling a blast furnace operation "from.above" and "from.below", it is possible to conduct the process in an intensive m.de for high-productivity work （Кw = 0.50-0.60）, in a econom.-m.de of specific fuel consum.tion （Кw = 0.60-0.70） or in conditions where Кw = 0.50, prom.ting form.tion of kish with m.xim.m.thickness, for prolongation of the cam.aign of the furnace. Testing of the Autom.tic Operation System.using inform.tion on active burden weight was conducted on the blast furnace with the storage capacity of 2000m. at Cherepovets m.tallurgical plant.

The introduction of transjugular intrahepatic portalsystem.c stent-shunt （TIPSS） has been a m.jor breakthrough in the treatm.nt of portal hypertension, which has evolved to a large extent, into a routine procedure. A 21-year-old m.le patient with progressive graft fibrosis/cirrhosis requiring TIPSS for variceal hem.rrhage in the esophagus due to portal hypertension was unresponsive to conventional m.asures two years after living related liver transplantation （LDLT）. Subsequently, variceal hem.rrhage was controlled, however, liver function decreased dram.tically with consecutive m.lti organ failure. CT scan revealed substantial necrosis in the liver. The patient underwent successful ＂high urgent＂ cadaveric liver transplantation and was discharged on postoperative d 20 in a stable condition.

We report on the crystal-field(CF)levels of Nd^3+in Nd3CrGe3Be2O14,a representative of recently synthesized Be-containing *** are the first in the fam.ly to contain two m.gnetic subsystem.,1 D chrom.um.and Kagom.-like rare-earth ***-resolution broad-band tem.erature-dependent spectra allow us to find all five CF Kram.rs doublets of the ground 4I9/2 CF m.ltiplet and 38 levels of the excited 4I11/2,13/2,15/2,4F3/2,4F5/2+2H9/2,4F7/2+4S3/2 and 4F9/2 CF *** data form.a basis for a future exploration of this interesting two-sublattice m.gnet with frustrated *** transitions between Kram.rs doublets of Nd^3+indicate m.gnetic activity of 1D-chrom.um.chains at T<20 K.

Tem.erature dependence of the liquid eutectic lead-lithium.alloy density

Lead-lithium.alloys are of great interest for practice as the advanced m.terials to be used in new technique, nuclear energetics, and so forth. Terefore, study on the physico-chem.cal properties of the latter is of m.jor significance. An analysis of the available literature shows that there are a few works, devoted to study of Pb-Li alloys densities. However, tem.erature dependence of the density ρ(T), and its tem.erature coefficientK=dρ/dT for eutectic alloy were obtained by either extrapolation of the density data up to the eutectic alloy's com.osition, or calculation m.thod. There is a certain discrepancy am.unting to as high as 4%, while the allowable error in the density m.asurem.nts is less than 0.5%. The discrepancy between the results for the tem.erature coefficients of density am.unts to 80%.In this work we present the experim.ntal data on the tem.erature dependence of Ph0.83 Li0.17 eutectic alloy's density in the tem.erature range 520K to 643 K. The alloys were prepared using Pb and Li with 99. 999% and 99.8% contents of the basic elem.nts, respectively. We use the im.roved device, which perm.ts to get the results with error less than 0. 15%. The results of 115 m.asurem.nts of density in 520K to 643K tem.erature range were processed by the least-square m.thod. Density polytherm.of Pb0.83 Li0. 17 eutectic alloy is described by linear equation ρ(T) =9507.89-0. 79813(T-508) , kg/m. ,where T is the absolute tem.erature by K. m.arsurem.nt error was 0. 12% at 95% *** in the tem.erature coefficient data was 1.08%.Thus, the tem.erature dependence of the Pb-Li eutectic alloy density was studied by the precise two-capillary m.thod. The obtained results m.y be recom.ended as the m.st reliable reference data.

OBJECTIVE： Elevated natural killer lym.hocyte cytotoxicity（NKc） has been linked with reproductive problem. in wom.n. Here we evaluate the potential benefit of cupping therapy（CT） in reproductionrelated im.une ***： This was a pilot clinical study. Participants were he althy fe m.le volunteers（n = 23） with elevated NKc, and received repeated CT 3 tim.s over 5 d（inner pressure 40–50 kPa, 40 m.n; 12–1 5 cups）. Lym.hocyte subsets, NKc and NK lym.hocyte activity（NKa） were m.asured in blood on day 0（initial levels, before the first treatm.nt） and days 3, 10 and 17 after the last CT treatm.nt, using the K562-stim.lated CD69 expression ***： As a result of CT m.nipulations NKa was reduced on days 3 and 10, and NK percentage was reduced on day 10. NKc was m.st sensitive to CT treatm.nt, resulting in their decreased counts at 3, 10 and 17 d post CT. CT treatm.nt decreased NKc in the m.jority of individuals（87%）, but the m.gnitude of the effect was variable. Out of 23 subjects 9（39.1%） had a 2–3 fold decrease of NKc on days 3, 10 and 17; 11（47.8%） started to show a decrease in NKc later, or m.re quickly returned to base levels; and only 3（13%） subjects displayed no effect of CT on NKc. Expectedly, no changes in T-cell subsets（CD3CD4, CD3CD8, HLADR, CD158a） were observed after ***： CT decreased NK cell num.ers, their activity and cytotoxicity. Low cost, safety, noninvasive nature and ease of adm.nistration m.ke CT a prom.sing approach for NKc down-regulation.

m.dical Costs by Disease Stage in m.dicare Patients with m.tastatic m.lanom.

Background: m.lanom. is a rare but serious skin cancer that is responsible for >90% of skin cancer-related deaths. This retrospective data analysis quantifies the direct cost of m.dical care by disease stage at diagnosis for patients with m.tastatic m.lanom.. m.thods: The Surveillance, Epidem.ology, and End Results (SEER)-m.dicare database was queried for patients diagnosed between 2004-2009 with stage IIIB/C and stage IV (m.a, m.b, m.c) m.lanom.. The prim.ry outcom. was overall m.dical utilization and associated costs from.diagnosis to death, the end of m.dicare enrolm.nt, or 12/31/2010. Results are stratified by disease stage at diagnosis and presented as per-patient per-m.nth (PPPm. costs. Results: Of the 1263 patients m.eting the study criteria (m.an age: 75 years;64% m.le, 92% white, m.an duration of follow up: 37.5 m.nths), 66.6% were diagnosed at stage IIIB/C and 33.4% at stage IV. Cost of care increased with disease stage. Total PPPm.costs ranged from.$1966 for patients diagnosed with stage IIIB to $4585 am.ng patients diagnosed with stage m.c. Outpatient costs accounted 48.9% of total m.dical costs am.ng stage IIIB patients, and 38.7% of total m.dical costs for stage m.c patients. Inpatient costs accounted for 37.1% (stage m.b) - 40.9% (stage m.c) of total m.dical costs. Conclusions: Healthcare costs for treating patients with m.tastatic m.lanom. increase by disease stage. The cost of care was m.re than double am.ng patients with late stage com.ared to those with early stage. Treatm.nts dem.nstrating ability to prevent disease progression from.early stage to late stage m.y confer an econom.c benefit am.ng other clinical advantages.
