An experimental study on grinding of Zr-based bulk metallic glass

There are limited studies in the literature about machinability of bulk metallic glass （BMG）. As a novel and promising structural material, BMG material machining characteristics need to be verified before its utilization. In this paper, the effects of cutting speed, feed rate, depth of cut, abrasive particle size/type on the BMG grinding in dry conditions were experimentally investigated. The experimental evaluations were carried out using cubic boron nitride （CBN） and A1203 cup wheel grinding tools. The parameters were evaluated along with the results of cutting force, temperature and surface roughness measurements, X-ray, scanning electron microscope （SEM） and surface roughness analyse. The results demonstrated that the grinding forces reduced with the increasing cutting speed as specific grinding energy increased. The effect of feed rate was opposite to the cutting speed effect, and increasing feed rate caused higher grinding forces and substantially lower specific energy. Some voids like cracks parallel to the grinding direction were observed at the edge of the grinding tracks. The present investigations on ground surface and grinding chips morphologies showed that material removal and surface formation of the BMG were mainly due to the ductile chip formation and ploughing as well as brittle fracture of some particles from the edge of the tracks. The roughness values obtained with the CBN wheels were found to be acceptable for the grinding operation of the structural materials and were in the rangeof 0.34-0.58 lam. This study also demonstrates that con- ventional A1203 wheel is not suitable for grinding of the BMG in dry conditions.

A New Artificial Neural Network Method for Solving Schrodinger Equations on Unbounded Domains

The simulation for particle or soliton propagation based on linear or nonlinear Schrodinger equations on unbounded domains requires the computational domain to be bounded,and therefore,a special boundary treatment such as an absorbing boundary condition(ABC)or a perfectly matched layer(PML)is needed so that the reflections of outgoing waves at the boundary can be minimized in order to prevent the destruction of the *** article presents a new artificial neural network(ANN)method for solving linear and nonlinear Schrodinger equations on unbounded *** particular,this method randomly selects training points only from the bounded computational space-time domain,and the loss function involves only the initial condition and the Schrodinger equation itself in the computational domainwithout any boundary ***,unlike standard ANNmethods that calculate gradients using expensive automatic differentiation,this method uses accurate finitedifference approximations for the physical gradients in the Schrodinger *** addition,a Metropolis-Hastings algorithm is implemented for preferentially selecting regions of high loss in the computational domain allowing for the use of fewer training points in each *** such,the present training method uses fewer training points and less computation time for convergence of the loss function as compared with the standard ANN *** new ANN method is illustrated using three examples.

This article provides an overview of several previous studies that investigated the stiffness and strength performance of chemically stabilized roadway materials under winter conditions （freeze-thaw cycling）. The objective of this research was to understand the behavior of different materials stabilized with different type of binders when they were subjected to freeze-thaw cycling. Nine different materials including natural soils （organic soil, clay, silt, sand, and road surface gravel）, reclaimed pavement material, and recycled asphalt pavement stabilized with nine different binders （five different fly ashes, lime, cement, lime kiln dust, cement kiln dust） were discussed. This article investigated how the volume, resilient modulus and unconfined compressive strength of soils/materials stabilized with different binders change in response to freeze-thaw cycling. Overall, the review results indicate that the stiffness and strength of all stabilized materials decrease somewhat with freeze-thaw cycling. However, the reduced strength and stiffness of stabilized materials after freeze-thaw cycling was still higher than that of unstabilized-unfrozen original soils and materials. In addition, materials stabilized with cement kiln dust provided the best performance against freeze-thaw cycling.

Various 2-arylbenzimidazoles were synthesized from o-phenylenediamine and aldehydes via one-step process using DMP （Dess-Martin-periodinane） reagent as an oxidant. This study analyses the effect of browning through image analysis based on colour and textural features in fresh-cut apple slices.A computer vision system(CVS)was developed for image acquisition,which consisted of a digital camera and a florescent lamp source for illumination with a contrasting *** CVS was calibrated using standard colour values and a model was developed by artificial neural network *** varieties of apples such as Honey crisp,Granny Smith,and Golden Delicious were used for the *** apples were freshly cut and subjected to image *** colour features(L*,browning index,hue,and colour change)and textural features(entropy,contrast,and homogeneity)were analysed from the acquired *** varieties Honey Crisp and Granny Smith did undergo browning within 120 min,whereas Golden delicious did not brown *** study concluded that colour and textural features were important decision features for detecting browning in apples through image analysis.

In this research work,isolation of humic acid from coal of Northeastern region of India is *** study is also targeted for application of the coal-derived humic acid in acid mine drainage(AMD)water treatment and electrochemical *** the obtained results are compared with the standard humic acid and examined the formation of humic acid from the *** isolated coal-derived humic acid is found to be high degree of humifications and relatively stable up to about 200℃.The FTIR study indicates the formation of metal-humic acid *** treatment with acidic water(AMD),the coal-derived humic acid was found to have the ability to remove toxic metal such as(in order)Pb>Cu>Zn>*** addition,the preliminary electrochemical properties of the isolated humic acid are also discussed in the *** specific capacitance of the isolated coal-derived humic acid via cyclic voltammetry and charge-discharge analysis is found to be 7 mF/g at scan rate 10 mV/s and 22 mF/g within the potential window 0.4 V,*** charge-discharge cycles are stable for more than 1000 cycles within the potential window 0.4 *** study will create a new pathway for the further research in this field.
