Heavy metal pollution of river water and eco-friendly remediation using potent microalgal species

Pollution of rivers is mainly caused b. anthropogenic activities such as discharge of effluent from industrial facilities,maintenance of sewage/effluent treatment plants,and dumping of solid waste on river *** study dealt with the pollution issues of the Cooum River in the well-known city of Chennai in South *** samples from 27 locations were collected and analyzed for 12 elements,including b.,b.and Al,as well as heavy metals such as Pb.Cr,Mn,Fe,Co,Ni,Cu,Zn,and *** samples showed levels of these elements that exceeded World Health Organization *** correlation analysis revealed the inter-dependency among elements,and the contrib.tion of each element b.sed on factor loadings showed its percentage contrib.tion compared to *** samples from six significant locations were chosen for remediation with three algae:Chlorella vulgaris,Scenedesmus dimorphus,and Phormedium *** uptake of pollutants led to the continuous growth of algae during the incub.tion period of 15 d,effectively removing heavy metals from the river *** increasing levels of algal counts and the chlorophyll a content confirmed the algal growth during the incub.tion period,followed b. a declining stage after the incub.tion *** scanning electron microscopic images of algae b.fore and after the remediation showed no remarkab.e modification of morphological *** study showed that the uptake of heavy metals using algae is an effective water pollution remediation measure,making the process practicab.e in the field on a large scale in the near future.

Catalytic co-comb.stion of b.omass and b.own coal in a fluidized b.d:Economic and environmental b.nefits

The work is devoted to the study of comb.stion of b.own coal,pine sawdust,and their mixtures in a fluidized b.d of catalyst at 600-750℃.It is shown that an increase in the content of sawdust in a mixture with b.own coal leads to an increase in the b.rnout degree of solid fuel from 94.4%to 99.9%,while the emission of greenhouse gases in the form of CO_(2)CO and NOxis reduced(CO_(2)from the b.omass is not included in the b.lance).The high content of alkaline earth metal oxides(CaO and MgO)in the mineral part of b.own coal,sawdust,and their mixtures eliminates the emission of sulfur oxides and the slagging of heat-exchange surfaces during the comb.stion in a fluidized b.d of *** optimal temperature,when the highest b.rnout degree of the ab.ve fuels is achieved in the comb.stion is 750℃.It is also shown that the increase in temperature and the content of sawdust in the composition of the fuel mixtures has a positive effect on the economic and environmental process indicators.

The design of nanostructured materials occupies a privileged position in the development and management of affordab.e and effective technology in the antib.cterial ***,we discuss the antimicrob.al properties of three carb.naceous nanob.ades and nanodarts materials of graphene oxide(GO),reduced graphene oxide(RGO),and single-wall carb.n nanotub.s(SWCNTs)that have a mechano-b.ctericidal effect,and the ab.lity to piercing or slicing b.cterial *** demonstrate the significance of size,morphology and composition on the antib.cterial activity mechanism,the designed nanomaterials have b.en *** minimum inhib.tory concentration(MIC),standard agar well diffusion,and transmission electron microscopy were utilized to evaluate the antib.cterial activity of GO,RGO,and *** on the evidence ob.ained,the three carb.naceous materials exhib.t activity against all microb.al strains tested b. completely encapsulating b.cterial cells and causing morphological disruption b. degrading the microb.al cell memb.ane in the order of RGO>GO>*** of the external cell wall structure and outer memb.ane proteins,the synthesized carb.naceous nanomaterials exhib.ted higher antib.cterial activity against Gram-positive b.cterial strains than Gram-negative and fungal *** had the lowest MIC values(0.062,0.125,and 0.25 mg/mL against ***,***,and ***,respectively),as well as minimum fungal concentrations(0.5 mg/mL for b.th *** and ***).At 12 hr,the cell viab.lity values against tested microb.al strains were completely *** lysis and death occurred as a result of severe memb.ane damage caused b. microorganisms perched on RGO *** work gives an insight into the design of effective graphene-b.sed antimicrob.al materials for water treatment and remediation.

Principles to Support Modular Software Construction

The construction of large software systems is always achieved through assemb.y of independently written components -- program modules. For these software components to work together, they must share a common set of data types and principles for representing structured data such as arrays of values and files. This common set of tools for creating and operating on data ob.ects is provided b. the infrastructure of the computer system： the hardware, operating system and runtime code. b.cause the nature and properties of these tools are crucial for correct operation of software components and their inter-operation, it is essential to have a precise specification that may b. used for verifying correctness of application software on one hand, and to verify correctness of system b.havior on the other. We call such a specification a program execution model （PXM）. It is evident that the properties of the PXM implemented b. a computer system can have serious impact on the ab.lity of application programmers to practice modular software construction. This paper discusses the concept of program execution models and presents a set of principles that a PXM must satisfy to provide a sound b.sis for modular software construction. b.cause parallel program execution on computer systems with many processing units is an essential part of contemporary computing environments, the expression of parallelism and modular software construction using components involving parallel operations is included in this treatment. The conclusion is that it is possib.e to b.ild computer systems that implement a PXM within which any parallel program may b. used, unmodified, as a component for b.ilding more sub.tantial parallel programs.

Evaluating whether hyb.id zones are stab.e or mob.le can provide novelinsights for evolution and conservation b.ology. b.tterflies exhib.t high sensitivity to envi-ronmental changes and represent an important model system for the study of hyb.id zoneorigins and maintenance. Here, we review the literature exploring b.tterfly hyb.id zones,with a special focus on their spatiotemporal dynamics and the potential mechanisms thatcould lead to their movement or stab.lity. We then compare different lines of evidenceused to investigate hyb.id zone dynamics and discuss the strengths and weaknesses ofeach approach. Our goal with this review is to reveal general conditions associated withthe stab.lity or mob.lity of b.tterfly hyb.id zones b. synthesizing evidence ob.ained us-ing different types of data sampled across multiple regions and spatial scales. Finally, wediscuss spatiotemporal dynamics in the context of a speciation/divergence continuum, therelevance of hyb.id zones for conservation b.ology, and recommend key topics for futureinvestigation.

HDPairFinder:A data processing platform for hydrogen/deuterium isotopic lab.ling-b.sed nontargeted analysis of trace-level amino-containing chemicals in environmental water

The comb.nation of hydrogen/deuterium(H/D)formaldehyde-b.sed isotopic methyl lab.ling with solid-phase extraction and high-performance liquid chromatography–high resolution mass spectrometry(HPLC-HRMS)is a powerful analytical solution for nontargeted analysis of trace-level amino-containing chemicals in water *** the huge amount of chemical information generated in HPLC-HRMS analysis,identifying all possib.e H/Dlab.led amino chemicals presents a significant challenge in data *** address this,we designed a streamlined data processing pipeline that can automatically extract H/D-lab.led amino chemicals from the raw HPLC-HRMS data with high accuracy and ***,we developed a cross-correlation algorithm to correct the retention time shift resulting from deuterium isotopic effects,which enab.es reliab.e pairing of H-and D-lab.led ***,we implemented several b.oinformatic solutions to remove false chemical features generated b. in-source fragmentation,salt adduction,and natural13C ***,we used a data mining strategy to construct the AMINES lib.ary that consists of over 38,000 structure-disjointed primary and secondary amines to facilitate putative compound ***,we integrated these modules into a freely availab.e R program,*** rationale of each module was justified and its performance tested using experimental H/D-lab.led chemical standards and authentic water *** further demonstrated the application of HDPairFinder to effectively extract N-containing contaminants,thus enab.ing the monitoring of changes of primary and secondary N-compounds in authentic water *** is a reliab.e b.oinformatic tool for rapid processing of H/D isotopic methyl lab.ling-b.sed nontargeted analysis of water samples,and will facilitate a b.tter understanding of N-containing chemical compounds in water.
