Percutaneous kidney stone surgery and radiation exposure: A review

During the past 3 decades,radiation exposure(RE)has increased drastically among patients undergoing percutaneous nephrolithotomy(PCNL),thus potentially causing new cases of cancer each year.The effective dose received by patients comes from pre-and postoperative computed tomography(CT)and intraoperative fluoroscopy(FL).We reviewed literature to find novel techniques and approaches that help to decrease RE of patients and personnel.We performed PubMed search using keywords percutaneous nephrolithotomy,intraoperative fluoroscopy,radiation exposure,imaging,percutaneous access,ultrasound,computed tomography,endoscopy,reconstruction,innovations,and augmented reality.Forty-four relevant articles were included in this review.As much as 20%of patients with first diagnosed urolithiasis exceed background RE level almost 17-fold.For diagnosing purposes using low-dose and ultra-low-dose CT,as well as low-dose dual energy scan protocols can be efficient ways to decrease RE while maintaining decent accuracy.Patients with urinary stones can be effectively monitored with digital tomosynthesis,ultrasound alone or ultrasound combined with plain film of the abdomen.Percutaneous access(PCA)into the kidney can be performed with reduced or even no RE,using novel PCA methods.REs from conventional imaging techniques during diagnosis and treatment increase probability of non-stochastic radiation effects.Urologists should be aware of protocols that decrease RE from CT and FL in diagnosis and management of urinary stones.Consideration of recently developed imaging modalities and PCA techniques will also aid in adherence to the“as low as reasonably achievable”principle.

Modeling the Physical Parameters of Solenoids for MEMS Applications

The paper is devoted to study of the electrical parameters of the motion parts of the MEMS such as solenoids. The analytical background is given in order to describe the influence of the electrical field components on the forces, which are result of interaction of the electromagnetic (EM) field components with the parts of motion devices of MEMS. The given analytical formulas open the ability to calculate the self-inductance of the microsolenoids of the different kind, as well as the stored energy of such motion devices, that could be used for the modeling and optimization of parameters of running devices of MEMS such as actuators, sensors etc.

Geometric Interpretation of the Origin of the Universe

An approach to the theory of geometrization of the Universe is proposed. The wave function of the Universe is represented by the Clifford number with the transfer rules that have the structure of the Dirac equation for any manifold. Solutions of this equation may be obtained in terms of the geometric interpretation. A new model is proposed that can explain the manifestation of the dark energy and dark matter in the Universe as a geometrical entity with a mechanism involving the spontaneous symmetry breaking.

Analysis of the displacements of pipeline overpasses based on geodetic monitoring results

There are many approaches to address geospatial monitoring of pipeline overpasses,among which the most widespread methods are terrestrial laser scanning and total station measurements.However,there is a problem in comparing the geospatial monitoring data collected by different methods in different epochs.The main task of this work is to find the correspondence between points in different epochs.The total station measurements are carried out in specific discrete points of the pipeline overpass.In contrast,terrestrial laser scanning allows the collection of the whole data set without fixing specific point co-ordinates.In order to compare different data in different epochs,it is necessary to select a relevant presentation of the monitoring results(reference model)and specify appropriate criteria for quality inspection.In general,a pipeline can be presented as a spatial curve.In this study,two types of reference models are considered:cubic splines and Bezier curves.These models are examined for the monitoring of two gas pipeline overpasses.The first measurement epoch is accomplished by the terrestrial laser scanning,and the second measurement epoch is completed by the total station.The reference models are simulated by Matlab coding.The preliminary accuracy of ground laser scanning and total station mea-surement is selected as the criterion of quality inspection.The simulation and comparison results provide the evidence that the correct selection of reference model is a crucial component of successful geospatial monitoring.The results show that the Hermite splines are effective in the comparison of different data sets.These splines present the interpolation accuracy compatible with measurement accuracy,i.e.,15-20 mm for spatial displacement determination.

Review and evaluation of cold recycling with bitumen emulsion and cement for rehabilitation of old pavements

The article presents Polish experience with cold recycling of asphalt pavements with the usage of bituminous emulsion and cement. In the 1990 s numerous roads in Poland required immediate reinforcement due to their significant degradation. Implementation of the cold recycling technology was one of the solutions to this problem. Cold recycled mixtures contain e beside the recycled asphalt pavement and aggregate e two different types of binding agents: bituminous emulsion and Portland cement. First Polish requirements were developed in the 1990 s and were based on the Marshall test. After several years of application of these requirements, numerous transverse cracks appeared on the pavements. Field investigation showed that the frequency of transverse cracking was not uniform on all evaluated sections and that the growth rate of the number of cracks was decreasing. The main reason of extensive cracking was the overly high amount of the Portland cement and insufficient amount of the bituminous emulsion. This led to production of very stiff mixtures, with dominance of hydraulic bonds, which behaved similarly to cement-treated mixtures. The idea of flexible cold recycled base course was not utilized. This experience motivated the Polish Road Administration to develop new requirements. Second part of the article presents the new requirements for cold recycling.New test methods as well as requirements concerning resistance to frost and water action were introduced in 2013. Implementing of the new requirements resulted in significant reduction in stiffness of the MCE mixtures. Values of stiffness modulus are even three times lower, which should significantly decrease the amount of potential reflective cracks on the pavement surface. Presently two types of technology of cold recycling are used in Poland, in-place and in-plant.

Supersymmetry in the Geometric Representation of the Early Universe Wave Function

The main goal of this article is to present a new result of a possible approach to the geometrical description of the birth and evolution of the universe. The novelty of the article is that it is possible to explain the nature of supersymmetry in terms of the geometric representation of the wave function and to propose a mechanism of spontaneous symmetry breaking of the excitation of the universe with different degrees of freedom. It is under such conditions that the well-known spontaneous symmetry breaking occurs and individual excitation acquires mass. At the same time, a phase transition of the first kind occurs with the formation of a new phase.

Strength of Concrete in Slabs, Investigates along Direction of Concreting

In theory of concrete it is assumed that concrete composites are isotropic on a macro scale. For example, it is assumed that a floor slab’s or a beam’s strength is identical in all directions and its nonhomogeneity is random. Hence neither calculations of the load-bearing capacity of structural components nor the techniques of investigating concrete in structure in situ take into account to a sufficient degree the fact that the assumption about concrete isotropy is overly optimistic. The present research shows that variation in concrete strength along the direction of concreting has not only a qualitative effect (as is commonly believed), but also a significant quantitative effect. This indicates that concrete is a composite which has not been fully understood yet. The paper presents evaluations of ordinary concrete (OC) homogeneity along component thickness along the direction of concreting. The ultrasonic method and modified exponential heads with a point contact with concrete were used in the investigations [1-3].

A spacial approach to the geometrization the theory of the electron has been proposed. The particle wave function is represented by a geometric entity, i.e., Clifford number, with the translation rules possessing the structure of Dirac equation for any manifold. A solution of this equation is obtained in terms of geometric treatment. New experiments concerning the geometric nature wave function of electrons are proposed.

The Indo-Pacific region has been widely discussed recently.The US,Japan,Australia,and India have come up with regional strategies that share similarities and diverge at the same time.The Association of Southeast Asian Nations has uncovered its IndoPacific vision too.These strategies highlight the objectives of maintaining peace and stability,promotion of regional connectivity,etc.However,apart from this,the region has not seen any substantial economic or institutional shifts.Economic architecture within the Indo-Pacific is very weak;the influence of international platforms that include states from both the Indian and the Pacific Ocean regions have been undermined.The recent literature focuses primarily on the analysis of strategies and concepts.Scant attention has been paid to the regional security interdependence.This thesis explores the regionalist approaches and empirically applies Regional Security Complex Theory developed by Buzan and Waever（2003）.The theory provides valuable analytical tools that help to trace the evolution of security dynamics in the area that makes up the emerging region.The thesis argues that in the absence of institutionalisation and economic regionalization,the Indo-Pacific is best understood as a multipolar security supercomplex that is generated mainly by the Sino-Indian interplay and accommodates a diverse group of actors,including great powers,middle powers and international organisation with independent agency.The interregional security dynamics are significant enough to single out the Indo-Pacific as a supercomplex and distinguish it from previously studied Asian supercomplex,but do not override the interdependence in South Asian and East Asian regional security complexes.To underpin the main contention,China’s and India’s developmental projects are studied with special emphasis on their security implications.
