Layered van der Waals(vdW)materials,consisting of atomically thin layers,are of paramount importance in physics,chemistry,and materials science owing to their unique properties and various promising ***,their fast and large‐scale growth via a general approach is still a big challenge,severely limiting their practical ***,we report a universal method for rapid(~60 min)and large‐scale(gram scale)growth of phase‐pure,high‐crystalline layered vdW materials from their elementary powders via microwave plasma heating in sealed *** method can be used for growth of 30 compounds with different components(binary,ternary,and quaternary)and *** ferroelectric and transport properties of mechanically exfoliated flakes validate the high crystal quality of the grown *** study provides a general strategy for the fast and large‐scale growth of layered vdW materials with appealing physiochemical properties,which could be used for various promising applications.

Strain sensors for human-motion detection must offer high stretchability, high sensitivity, fast response, and high recovery speed. In this study, we choose silver paste as a sensing material and use a screen printing method to fabricate the strain sensor based upon an electrical-resistance mechanism. After curing elastomeric polyurethane film with a thickness of 150 μm on PET film, the polyester resin mixed with blocked isocyanate curing agent was coated as a masking layer to reduce the film’s stickiness. The effect of the polyester masking layer upon the silver paste screen printing process was examined using a rolling-ball-tack test, TGA analysis of polyester resins, and cured silver-electrode films. The cost-effective strain sensor fabricated by using silver paste and screen printing processes on the stretchable-polyurethane-substrate film showed high sensitivity and fast response in a strain range of up to 100%.

AIM To investigate the rates of pretransplantation fetalmaternal microchimerism(MC) and its effect on rejection in children receiving maternal liver grafts. METHODS DNA or blood samples before liver transplantation(LT) were available in 45 pediatric patients and their mothers. The presence of pretransplantation MC to non-inherited maternal antigens(NIMAs)(NIMA-MC) in the peripheral blood was tested using nested PCRsingle-strand conformation polymorphism analysis for the human leukocyte antigen(HLA)-DRB1 alleles. NIMA-MC was successfully evaluated in 26 of the 45 children. Among these 45 pediatric LT recipients,23 children(51.1%) received transplants from maternal donors and the other 22 from non-maternal *** Among these 26 children,pretransplantation NIMAMC was detected in 23.1%(n = 6),6.1(range,0.8-14) years after birth. Among the children with a maternal donor,the rate of biopsy-proven cellular rejection(BPCR) was 0% in patients with NIMA-MC positivity(0/3) and those with HLA-DR identity with the mother(0/4),but it was 50% in those with NIMA-MC negativity(5/10). Patients with NIMA-MC positivity or HLA-DR identity with the mother showed significantly lower BPCR rate compared with NIMA-MC-negative patients(0% vs 50%,P = 0.04). NIMA-MC-positive patients tended to show lower BPCR rate compared with NIMAMC-negative patients(P = 0.23). CONCLUSION The presence of pretransplantation NIMA-MC or HLADR identity with the mother could be associated with BPCR-free survival in pediatric recipients of LT from maternal donors.

AIM:To determine whether magnified observation of short-segment Barrett’s esophagus(BE)is useful for the detection of specialized intestinal metaplasia(SIM).METHODS:Thirty patients with suspected short-segment BE underwent magnifying endoscopy up to×*** magnified images were analyzed with respect to their pit-patterns,which were simultaneously classified into five epithelial types[Ⅰ(small round),Ⅱ(straight),Ⅲ(long oval),Ⅳ(tubular),Ⅴ(villous)]by Endo’s ***,a 0.5%solution of methylene blue(MB)was sprayed over columnar *** patterns of the magnified image and MB staining were *** were obtained from the regions previously observed by magnifying endoscopy and MB ***:Three of five patients with a typeⅤ(villous)epithelial pattern had SIM,whereas 21 patients with a non-typeⅤepithelial patterns did not have *** sensitivity,specificity,accuracy,positive predictive value,and negative predictive value of pit-patterns in detecting SIM were 100%,91.3%,92.3%,60%and100%,respectively(P=0.004).Three of the 12 patients with positive MB staining had SIM,whereas 14patients with negative MB staining did not have *** sensitivity,specificity,accuracy,positive predictive value,and negative predictive value of MB staining in detecting SIM were 100%,60.9%,65.4%,25%and100%,respectively(P=0.085).The specificity and accuracy of pit-pattern evaluation were significantly superior compared with MB staining for detecting SIM by comparison with the exact McNemar’s test(P=0.0391).CONCLUSION:The magnified observation of a shortsegment BE according to the mucosal pattern and its classification can be predictive of SIM.

A rational design of efficient low-band-gap non-fullerene acceptors(NFAs)for high-performance organic solar cells(OSCs)remains challenging;the main constraint being the decrease in the energy level of the lowest unoccupied molecular orbitals(LUMOs)as the bandgap of A-D-A-type NFAs ***,the short current density(J_(sc))and open-circuit voltage(V_(oc))result in a trade-off relationship,making it difficult to obtain efficient ***,three NFAs(IFL-ED-4 F,IDT-ED-4 F,and IDTT-ED-2 F)were synthesized to address the above-mentioned issue by introducing 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene(EDOT)as aπ-*** NFAs exhibit relatively low bandgaps(1.67,1.42,and 1.49 eV,respectively)and upshifted LUMO levels(-3.88,-3.84,and-3.81 eV,respectively)compared with most reported low-band-gap ***,the photovoltaic devices based on IDT-ED-4 F blended with a PBDB-T donor polymer showed the best power conversion efficiency(PCE)of 10.4%with a high J_(sc) of 22.1 mA cm^(-2) and Voc of 0.884 V among the examined *** contrast,IDTT-ED-4 F,which was designed with an asymmetric structure of the D-p-A type,showed the lowest efficiency of 1.5%owing to the poor morphology and charge transport properties of the binary ***,when this was introduced as the third component of the PM6:BTP-bo-4 Cl,complementary absorption and cascade energy-level alignment between the two substances could be ***,the IDTT-ED-4 F-based ternary blend device not only improved the Jscand Voc,but also achieved a PCE of 15.2%,which is approximately 5.3%higher than that of the reference device with a minimized energy loss of 0.488 *** addition,the universality of IDTT-ED-2 F as a third component was effectively demonstrated in other photoactive systems,specifically,PM6:BTPe C9 and PTB7-Th:IEICO-4 *** work facilitates a better understanding of the structure–property relationship for utilizing efficient EDOT-bridged NFAs in high-performance OSC applications.

The purpose of this study is to establish a gene delivery system for interstitial tissue-specific protein expression in mice testes using modified recombinant baculovirus. Green fluorescent protein （GFP）-expressing recombinant baculovirus （GFP-baculovirus）, in which the insect cell-specific polyhedron promoter was replaced by the cytomegalovirus （CMV）-IE promoter, was used to transfect testicular cells in vitro, and for intra-tunica albuguineal injection of the interstitial tissue of the testis. GFP expression was monitored in frozen testes sections by fluorescence microscopy. Expression of GFP in testicular tissues was also assessed by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction （RT-PCR）, and protein expression was assessed by Western blot. Testicular cells in vitro were infected efficiently by modified recombinant GFP-baculovirus. lntra-tunica albuguineal injection of GFP- baculovirus into the mouse testis resulted in a high level of GFP expression in the interstitial tissues. RT-PCR analysis clearly showed GFP gene expression in the testis, particularly interstitial tissues. Intra-tunica albuguineal injection of a modified baculovirus that encoded recombinant rat insulin-like growth factor binding protein （IGFBP）-5 resulted in an increase in IGFBP-5 in testis and semen. In conclusion, we have developed an efficient delivery system for gene expression in vivo in testicular cells, particularly cells of the interstitial tissue using intratunica albuguineal injection of a modified recombinant baculovirus. This method will be particularly relevant for application that requires gene delivery and protein expression in the testicular cells of the outer seminiferous tubule of the testis.

Biomass and Community Structure of Epilithic Biofilm on the Yellow and East Coasts of Korea

Spatial biomass variation and community structure of epilithic biofilms were examined using cell counts, chlorophyll a extraction, and remote-sensing techniques. Samples were collected at two levels of wave exposure along the Yellow and East Coasts of Korea in December 2010. Cyanobacteria were dominant, occupying about 88% of biofilm, irrespective of wave exposure levels. The cyanobacteria species, Aphanotece spp. was abundant in the Yellow Coast location and Lyngbya spp. was abundant in the East coast location. The representative diatoms were Navicula spp. and Achnanthes spp. on the rocky shores of all study sites. Average Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) was significantly greater in the Yellow Coast (mean 0.46) than that in the East Coast (mean 0.21);a similar pattern was observed in Vegetation Index (VI). Chlorophyll a content was three times greater on the Yellow Coast (20.50 μg/cm2) than that on the East Coast (8.21 μg/cm2), and it was greater at the Gosapo and Bangpo shore sites than that at the Gyeokpo site, on the Yellow Coast. However, chlorophyll a contents were not different between 23.33 and 17.66 μg/cm2 at exposed- and sheltered-shores of Yellow Coast, and were 9.62 μg/cm2 and 6.80 μg/cm2 on the East Coast. Vegetation indices were positively correlated with chlorophyll a contents. In conclusion, biofilm of Korean upper rocky shore was mainly composed of cyanobacteria and biofilm biomass that differed between the Yellow and East Coast.
