A field-effect transistor （FET） with two-dimensional （2D） few-layer MoS2 as a sensing-channel material was investigated for label-free electrical detection of the hybridization of deoxyribonucleic acid （DNA） molecules. The high-quality MoS2-channel pattern was selectively formedthrough the chemical reaction of the Mo layer with H2S gas. The MoS2 FET was very stable in an electrolyte and inert to pH changes due to the lack of oxygen-containing functionalities on the MoS2 surface. Hybridization of single-stranded target DNA molecules with single-stranded probe DNA molecules physically adsorbed on the MoS2 channel resulted in a shift of the threshold voltage （Vt,） in the negative direction and an increase in the drain current. The negative shift in Vth is attributed to electrostatic gating effects induced by the detachment of negatively charged probe DNA molecules from the channel surface after hybridization. A detection limit of 10 fM, high sensitivity of 17 mWdec, and high dynamic range of 106 were achieved. The results showed that a bio-FET with an ultrathin 2D MoS2 channel can be used to detect very small concentrations of target DNA molecules specifically hybridized with the probe DNA molecules.

Evaluation of non-ampullary duodenal polyps: Comparison of non-neoplastic and neoplastic lesions

AIM: To evaluate duodenal polyps, divided into nonneoplastic and neoplastic lesions. In addition, the clinical characteristics of duodenal hyperplastic polyps are determined. METHODS: We analyzed medical records of 50 114 consecutive patients submitted to for first diagnostic esophago-gastroduodenoscopy between January 2004 and December 2009. We excluded lesions on the ampulla of Vater and submucosal tumors. We studied 510 cases that were diagnosed endoscopically with duodenal polyps and enrolled a total of 221 cases that had undergone tissue biopsy. We analyzed the differences between non-neoplastic and neoplastic lesions, and determined the clinical features of duodenal hyperplastic polyps. RESULTS: Non-neoplastic lesions were found in 196 patients and neoplastic lesions in 25 patients. On uni-variate analysis, there were significant differences in shape, location, and size. Polyps more than 10 mm in diameter or polyps in the second portion had independent risk factors for being neoplastic lesions, as identified by multivariate analysis. In 23 cases of hyperplastic polyps (79.3%), they were accompanied by gastroduodenal pathology, which was possibly associated with Helicobacter pylori . CONCLUSION: Polyps of more than 10 mm or polyps in the second portion of the duodenum should be evaluated by histological examination.

A paintable and adhesive hydrogel cardiac patch with sustained release of ANGPTL4 for infarcted heart repair

The infarcted heart undergoes irreversible pathological remodeling after reperfusion involving left ventricle dilation and excessive inflammatory reactions in the infarcted heart,frequently leading to fatal functional *** attempts have been made to attenuate pathological remodeling in infarcted hearts using cardiac patches and anti-inflammatory drug *** this study,we developed a paintable and adhesive hydrogel patch using dextran-aldehyde(dex-ald)and gelatin,incorporating the anti-inflammatory protein,ANGPTL4,into the hydrogel for sustained release directly to the infarcted heart to alleviate *** optimized the material composition,including polymer concentration and molecular weight,to achieve a paintable,adhesive hydrogel using 10%gelatin and 5%dex-ald,which displayed in-situ gel formation within 135 s,cardiac tissue-like modulus(40.5 kPa),suitable tissue adhesiveness(4.3 kPa),and excellent mechanical ***4 was continuously released from the gelatin/dex-ald hydrogel without substantial burst *** gelatin/dex-ald hydrogel could be conveniently painted onto the beating heart and degraded in ***,in vivo studies using animal models of acute myocardial infarction revealed that our hydrogel cardiac patch containing ANGPTL4 significantly improved heart tissue repair,evaluated by echocardiography and histological *** heart tissues treated with ANGPTL4-loaded hydrogel patches exhibited increased vascularization,reduced inflammatory macrophages,and structural maturation of cardiac *** novel hydrogel system,which allows for facile paintability,appropriate tissue adhesiveness,and sustained release of anti-inflammatory drugs,will serve as an effective platform for the repair of various tissues,including heart,muscle,and cartilage.

Fabrication of Near Net Shape Metallic Foam via Plaster Mould

Fabrication characteristics are unstable in direct foaming method. Therefore, most of near net-shape metallic foams are produced, and investigated by powder metallurgy. Direct foaming method, however, has many benefits （i.e. reduce the unit cost of goods and fabrication process etc.） to fabrication of metallic foams. In this article, the fabrication characteristic of near net-shape metallic foams by direct foaming method was evaluated. Al and Plaster was used for base material and mould material respectively. Ca and TiH2 were added to molten Al as thickening and blowing agent for stable condition of bubbles. Thickening time was about 10 min with a stirring speed of 600 r/min. Foaming time was 30-120 s for evaluation of the optimum foaming condition. Amount of agent was selected by pre-experimental data. Porosity of near net-shape goods was measured by Archimedes method. On the other hand, it seems that increasing poring time and thickening agent make the poor porosity

Cardiovascular diseases remain the leading cause of mortality worldwide,with percutaneous coronary interventions(PCI)using drug-eluting stents(DES)as the standard treatment for coronary artery *** advancements in DES technology,challenges such as restenosis and stent thrombosis still necessitate further interventions and carry considerable risks,highlighting an urgent need for a novel therapeutic approach with lower restenosis rates and reduced reintervention *** balloons(DEBs)coated with anti-proliferative agents offer a novel method of local drug delivery for reducing restenosis by directly administering drugs to the lesion ***,efficient delivery of drugs within the brief procedural window while minimizing drug loss during maneuvering to the target site remains a ***,we developed a pressure-responsive and pH-triggered,paclitaxel(PTX)coated DEB catheter for rapid and high-dose delivery of paclitaxel to the lesion sites,overcoming the limitations of drug dispersion and inefficiencies associated with conventional *** the charge reversion of albumin around its isoelectric point,paclitaxel-loaded human serum albumin nanoparticles(PTX-HSA-NPs)and heparin were coated using a layer-by-layer deposition method at pH *** exposure to physiological pH(i.e.,7.4),the coating is rapidly released from the balloon *** with a protective shellac coating,the DEB achieved controlled release of high-dose paclitaxel to the arterial tissue in vivo(up to 400μg per gram tissue),exceeding current DEBs in the *** results suggest the pH-responsive,multi-layer coated DEB’s potential for superior procedural outcomes,addressing a critical unmet need in PCI.

Fabrication of Mg-Zn-Y-based quasi-crystal by pouring melt into different cooling media

Mg-Zn-Y-based quasi-crystal （QC） alloys were fabricated by pouring melts into different cooling media. The effects of different cooling rates on the QC morphology, size, volume fraction and micro-hardness were studied. Multi-component Mg-Zn-Y-based QC alloys were synthesized based on amorphous design principle. QC morphology transformation and its influencing factors were analyzed. Micro/nano spherical quasi-crystals （QCs） were fabricated through a wedge-shaped copper mould and their forming mechanism were discussed by atoms cluster theory, optimum cooling rate theory and the known crucial criteria. The results of research show that with the cooling rate reduced, the solidified morphology of QC phase changes from near-spherical, micro petals （1 to 2 um） to big petals （20 um） and finally grows up to bulk pentagon or hexagon （200 to 400 um）. Multi-component micro-spherical QCs possess higher value of micro-hardness than petal-like QCs with the same components, and also higher than ternary micro-Mg-Zn-Y QCs. The fine master alloys containing micro-QCs （0.4 um） and nano-QCs （about 300 nm and 40 nm） have been fabricated correspondingly on the middle and the tip of wedge-shaped castings. A morphology evolution schematic diagram of Mg-Zn-Y-based QCs is included in this paper.

Prevention and management of adverse events following COVID-19 vaccination using traditional Korean medicine:An online survey of public health doctors

BACKGROUND Since February 2021,vaccination against coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 has started in *** To perform a questionnaire survey about the prevention and management of adverse events of COVID-19 vaccination among public health doctors of Korean Medicine(PHKMDs).METHODS An online questionnaire was developed,comprising categories about adverse events of vaccination(AEVs)and perception of using Korean medicine(KM)in managing vaccine adverse events(AEs)among ***’experience of AEVs,usage of Korean medicine for AEVs,and perception and attitude in using KM for AEVs were *** survey web-link was emailed to the association of *** links were sent through Survey Monkey to all PHKMDs in *** A total of 143 participants were recruited for this study;65%of participants were vaccinated at the same of the survey(n=93).Although most participants did not take any medication for prevention of the adverse events,62%(n=58)of participants had taken herbal medicine to treat the adverse events(n=52).Approximately 35%of participants(n=33)said that they would recommend taking herbal medicine to prevent any *** various KM interventions,the participants strongly recommended taking an herbal medicine(n=69,74.19%)to treat AEs,and the second-highest was acupuncture treatment(n=19,20.43%).CONCLUSION Overall,this research demonstrated a high prevalence of KM usage by the ***,this study’s results may serve as fundamental evidence for health professionals to consider using KM treatments when treating or preventing AEVs in the near future.

Mg has received much attention as a next-generation implantable material owing to its biocompatibility,bone-like mechanical properties,and biodegradability in physiological *** application of various polymer coatings has been conducted in the past to reduce the rapid formation of hydrogen gas and the local change in pH during the initial phase of the chemical reaction with the body ***,we propose femtosecond(fs)laser-mediated Mg surface patterning for significant enhancement of the binding strength of the coating material,which eventually reduces the corrosion *** of the structural,physical,crystallographic,and chemical properties of the Mg surface have been conducted in order to understand the mechanism by which the surface adhesion increases between Mg and the polymer coating *** on the fs laser conditions,the surface structure becomes rough owing to the presence of several microscaled pits and grooves of nanoporous MgO,resulting in a tightly bonded poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid)(PLGA)*** corrosion rate of the PLGA-coated,fs laser-treated Mg is considerably slow compared with the non-treated Mg;the treated Mg is also more biocompatible compared with the non-treated *** fs laser-based surface modification technique offers a simple and quick method for introducing a rough coating on Mg;further,it does not require any chemical treatment,thereby overcoming a potential obstacle for its clinical use.

Interstitial tissue-specific gene expression in mouse testis by intra-tunica albuguineal injection of recombinant baculovirus

The purpose of this study is to establish a gene delivery system for interstitial tissue-specific protein expression in mice testes using modified recombinant baculovirus. Green fluorescent protein （GFP）-expressing recombinant baculovirus （GFP-baculovirus）, in which the insect cell-specific polyhedron promoter was replaced by the cytomegalovirus （CMV）-IE promoter, was used to transfect testicular cells in vitro, and for intra-tunica albuguineal injection of the interstitial tissue of the testis. GFP expression was monitored in frozen testes sections by fluorescence microscopy. Expression of GFP in testicular tissues was also assessed by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction （RT-PCR）, and protein expression was assessed by Western blot. Testicular cells in vitro were infected efficiently by modified recombinant GFP-baculovirus. lntra-tunica albuguineal injection of GFP- baculovirus into the mouse testis resulted in a high level of GFP expression in the interstitial tissues. RT-PCR analysis clearly showed GFP gene expression in the testis, particularly interstitial tissues. Intra-tunica albuguineal injection of a modified baculovirus that encoded recombinant rat insulin-like growth factor binding protein （IGFBP）-5 resulted in an increase in IGFBP-5 in testis and semen. In conclusion, we have developed an efficient delivery system for gene expression in vivo in testicular cells, particularly cells of the interstitial tissue using intratunica albuguineal injection of a modified recombinant baculovirus. This method will be particularly relevant for application that requires gene delivery and protein expression in the testicular cells of the outer seminiferous tubule of the testis.
