Exploring the relevance between load-bearing capacity and surface friction behavior based on a layered hydrogel cartilage prototype

Cartilage is well lubricated over a lifetime and this phenomenon is attributed to both of the surface hydration lubrication and the matrix load-bearing *** hydrogels with a layered structure are designed to mimic cartilage as potential *** many studies have concentrated on improving surface hydration to reduce friction,few have experimentally detected the relationship between load-bearing capacity of hydrogels and their interface friction *** this work,a bilayer hydrogel,serving as a cartilage prototype consisted of a top thick hydrated polymer brush layer and a bottom hydrogel matrix with tunable modulus was designed to investigate this *** coefficient of friction(COF,μ)is defined as the sum of interfacial component(μInt)and deformation/hysteresis component(μHyst).The presence of the top hydration layer effectively dissipates contact stress and reduces the interface interaction(μInt),leading to a stable and low *** contribution of mechanical deformation(μHyst)during the sliding shearing process to COF can be significantly reduced by increasing the local mechanical modulus,thereby enhancing the load-bearing *** results show that the strategy of coupling surface hydration layer with a high load-bearing matrix can indeed enhance the lubrication performance of hydrogel cartilage prototypes,and implies a promising routine for designing robust soft matter lubrication system and friction-control devices.

Lithium(Li)metal is regarded as a promising anode candidate for high-energy-density rechargeable ***,Li metal is highly reactive against electrolytes,leading to rapid decay of active Li metal ***,alloying Li metal with low-content magnesium(Mg)is proposed to mitigate the reaction kinetics between Li metal anodes and *** atoms enter the lattice of Li atoms,forming solid solution due to the low amount(5 wt%)of *** atoms mainly concentrate near the surface of Mg-alloyed Li metal *** reactivity of Mg-alloyed Li metal is mitigated kinetically,which results from the electron transfer from Li to Mg atoms due to the electronegativity *** on quantitative experimental analysis,the consumption rate of active Li and electrolytes is decreased by using Mgalloyed Li metal anodes,which increases the cycle life of Li metal batteries under demanding ***,a pouch cell(1.25 Ah)with Mg-alloyed Li metal anodes delivers an energy density of 340 Wh kg^(-1)and a cycle life of 100 *** work inspires the strategy of modifying Li metal anodes to kinetically mitigate the side reactions with electrolytes.

A benchmark experiment on^(238)U slab samples was conducted using a deuterium-tritium neutron source at the china institute of Atomic *** leakage neutron spectra within energy levels of 0.8-16 MeV at 60°and 120°were measured using the time-of-flight *** samples were prepared as rectangular slabs with a 30 cm square base and thicknesses of 3,6,and 9 *** leakage neutron spectra were also calculated using the MCNP-4C program based on the latest evaluated files of^(238)U evaluated neutron data from CENDL-3.2,ENDF/B-Ⅷ.0,JENDL-5.0,and *** on the comparison,the deficiencies and improvements in^(238)U evaluated nuclear data were *** results showed the following.(1)The calculated results for CENDL-3.2 significantly overestimated the measurements in the energy interval of elastic scattering at 60°and 120°.(2)The calculated results of CENDL-3.2 overestimated the measurements in the energy interval of inelastic scattering at 120°.(3)The calculated results for CENDL-3.2 significantly overestimated the measurements in the 3-8.5 MeV energy interval at 60°and 120°.(4)The calculated results with JENDL-5.0 were generally consistent with the measurement results.

The concerns over energy crisis and climate change caused by the excessive consumption of fossil fuels and the associated emission of greenhouse gases, have driven many countries to develop policies for an energy transition into zero-carbon energy sources, essentially aiming at decarbonizing their energy systems. Among various renewable sources, hydrogen has been hailed as an ideal alternative to provide secure, cost-effective, and non-polluting energy. In recent years, there has been noteworthy progress in hydrogen electrochemical conversion and utilization techniques and devices, including water electrolyzers, proton-exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs), solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs), etc. Each of these technologies has yielded a series of encouraging advances. To showcase these recent advances, Frontiers in Energy is launching a special issue titled “electrochemical conversion and utilization of hydrogen energy”.

We report high-energy tunable 6.5-12 μm ps mid-infrared radiation generation based on OPA pumped using 1064 nm laser in LISe *** simulated the relationship between the idler energy and crystal *** optimum LISe length of 4 mm was used to enhance the idler energy *** a pump energy of ~9.4 mJ, energy levels of ~146 and of ~27 μJ are generated at 6.5 μm and 12 μm, *** highest energy of ~205 μJ is achieved at 8.1 μm at a pump energy of ~19 ***, the angular and spectral width acceptance are measured.

Avalanche photodetectors(APDs) featuring an avalanche multiplication region are vital for reaching high sensitivity and responsivity in optical transceivers. Waveguide-coupled Ge-on-Si separate absorption, charge, and multiplication(SACM)APDs are popular due to their straightforward fabrication process, low optical propagation loss, and high detection sensitivity in optical communications. This paper introduces a lateral SACM Ge-on-Si APD on a silicon-on-insulator(SOI) wafer, featuring a 10 μm-long, 0.5 μm-wide Ge layer at 1310 nm on a standard 8-inch silicon photonics platform. The dark current measures approximately 38.6 μA at-21 V, indicating a breakdown voltage greater than-21 V for the device. The APDs exhibit a unitgain responsivity of 0.5 A/W at-10 V. At-15 V, their responsivity reaches 2.98 and 2.91 A/W with input powers of-10 and-25 dBm, respectively. The device's 3-dB bandwidth is 15 GHz with an input power of-15 dBm and a gain is 11.68. Experimental results show a peak in impedance at high bias voltages, attributed to inductor and capacitor(LC) circuit resonance, enhancing frequency response. Furthermore, 20 Gbps eye diagrams at-21 V and-9 dBm input power reveal signal to noise ratio(SNRs) of 5.30. This lateral SACM APD, compatible with the stand complementary metal oxide semiconductor(CMOS) process,shows that utilizing the peaking effect at low optical power increases bandwidth.

Decomposing complex real-world tasks into simpler subtasks and devising a subtask execution plan is critical for humans to achieve effective ***,replicating this process remains challenging for AI agents and naturally raises two questions:(1)How to extract discriminative knowledge representation from priors?(2)How to develop a rational plan to decompose complex problems?To address these issues,we introduce a groundbreaking framework that incorporates two main ***,our multiple-encoder and individual-predictor regime goes beyond traditional architectures to extract nuanced task-specific dynamics from datasets,enriching the feature space for ***,we innovate in planning by introducing a top-K subtask planning tree generated through an attention mechanism,which allows for dynamic adaptability and forward-looking *** framework is empirically validated against challenging benchmarks BabyAI including multiple combinatorially rich synthetic tasks(e.g.,GoToSeq,SynthSeq,bossLevel),where it not only outperforms competitive baselines but also demonstrates superior adaptability and effectiveness incomplex task decomposition.

Lop Nur is located at the eastmost end of the Tarim Basin in Xinjiang,Northwestern *** study reviews the hydrochemical characteristics and evolution of underground brine in Lop Nur,based on analytical data from 429 water samples(mainly brine).It is found that in the NE-SW direction,from the periphery to the Luobei sub-depression,while the hydrochemical type varies from the sodium sulfate subtype(S)to the magnesium sulfate subtype(M),the corresponding brine in the phase diagram transfers from the thenardite phase(Then)area,through the bloedite phase(Blo),epsomite phase(Eps),picromerite phase(Picro),finally reaching the sylvite phase(Syl)*** for the degree of evolution,the sequence is the periphery

Parkinson's disease(PD)is a neurodegeneration disease withα-synuclein accumulated in the substantia nigra pars compacta(SNpc)and most of the dopaminergic neurons are lost in SNpc while patients are diagnosed with *** the pathology at an early stage contributes to the development of the disease-modifying *** the“gut–brain”hypothesis is proposed to explain the underlying mechanism,where the earlier lesioned site in the brain of gastricα-synuclein and howα-synuclein further spreads are not fully *** we report that caudal raphe nuclei(CRN)are the early lesion site of gastricα-synuclein propagating through the spinal cord,while locus coeruleus(LC)and substantia nigra pars compacta(SNpc)were further affected over a time frame of 7 ***α-synuclein propagation via CRN leads to neuron loss and disordered neuron activity,accompanied by abnormal motor and non-motor *** neuron circuits are observed among CRN,LC,and SNpc,which contribute to the venerability of dopaminergic neurons in *** results show that CRN is the key region for the gastricα-synuclein spread to the *** study provides valuable details for the“gut–brain”hypothesis and proposes a valuable PD model for future research on early PD intervention.
