Advancing space-based gravitational wave astronomy: Rapid parameter estimation via normalizing flows

Gravitational wave(GW) astronomy is witnessing a transformative shift from terrestrial to space-based detection, with missions like Taiji at the forefront. While the transition brings unprecedented opportunities for exploring massive black hole binaries(MBHBs), it also imposes complex challenges in data analysis, particularly in parameter estimation amidst confusion noise.Addressing this gap, we utilize scalable normalizing flow models to achieve rapid and accurate inference within the Taiji environment. Innovatively, our approach simplifies the data's complexity, employs a transformation mapping to overcome the year-period time-dependent response function, and unveils additional multimodality in the arrival time parameter. Our method estimates MBHBs several orders of magnitude faster than conventional techniques, maintaining high accuracy even in complex backgrounds. These findings significantly enhance the efficiency of GW data analysis, paving the way for rapid detection and alerting systems and enriching our ability to explore the universe through space-based GW observation.

Total ionizing dose effect modeling method for CMOS digital-integrated circuit

Simulating the total ionizing dose(TID)of an electrical system using transistor-level models can be difficult and expensive,particularly for digital-integrated circuits(ICs).In this study,a method for modeling TID effects in complementary metaloxide semiconductor(CMOS)digital ICs based on the input/output buffer information specification(IBIS)was proposed.The digital IC was first divided into three parts based on its internal structure:the input buffer,output buffer,and functional area.Each of these three parts was separately modeled.Using the IBIS model,the transistor V-I characteristic curves of the buffers were processed,and the physical parameters were extracted and modeled using VHDL-AMS.In the functional area,logic functions were modeled in VHDL according to the data sheet.A golden digital IC model was developed by combining the input buffer,output buffer,and functional area models.Furthermore,the golden ratio was reconstructed based on TID experimental data,enabling the assessment of TID effects on the threshold voltage,carrier mobility,and time series of the digital IC.TID experiments were conducted using a CMOS non-inverting multiplexer,NC7SZ157,and the results were compared with the simulation results,which showed that the relative errors were less than 2%at each dose point.This confirms the practicality and accuracy of the proposed modeling method.The TID effect model for digital ICs developed using this modeling technique includes both the logical function of the IC and changes in electrical properties and functional degradation impacted by TID,which has potential applications in the design of radiation-hardening tolerance in digital ICs.

A new interacting capillary bundle model on the multiphase flow in micropores of tight rocks

Surfactants are widely used in the fracturing fluid to enhance the imbibition and thus the oil recovery rate. However, current numerical models cannot capture the physics behind capillary imbibition during the wettability alteration by surfactants. Although the interacting capillary bundle(ICB) model shows potential in characterizing imbibition rates in different pores during wettability alteration, the existing ICB models neglect the influence of wettability and viscosity ratio on the imbibition behavior, making it difficult to accurately describe the oil-water imbibition behavior within the porous media. In this work,a new ICB mathematical model is established by introducing pressure balance without assuming the position of the leading front to comprehensively describe the imbibition behavior in a porous medium under different conditions, including gas-liquid spontaneous imbibition and oil-water imbibition.When the pore size distribution of a tight rock is known, this new model can predict the changes of water saturation during the displacement process in the tight rock, and also determine the imbibition rate in pores of different sizes. The water saturation profiles obtained from the new model are validated against the waterflooding simulation results from the CMG, while the imbibition rates calculated by the model are validated against the experimental observations of gas-liquid spontaneous imbibition. The good match above indicates the newly proposed model can show the water saturation profile at a macroscopic scale while capture the underlying physics of the multiphase flow in a porous medium at a microscopic scale. Simulation results obtained from this model indicate that both wettability and viscosity ratio can affect the sequence of fluid imbibition into pores of different sizes during the multiphase flow, where less-viscous wetting fluid is preferentially imbibed into larger pores while more-viscous wetting fluid tends to be imbibed into smaller pores. Percutaneous transhepatic stenting for acute superior mesenteric vein stenosis after pancreaticoduodenectomy with portal vein reconstruction:A case report

BACKGROUND Percutaneous transhepatic stent placement has become a common strategy for the postoperative treatment of portal vein(PV)/superior mesenteric veins(SMV)stenosis/occlusion.It has been widely used after liver transplantation surgery;however,reports on stent placement for acute PV/SMV stenosis after pancreatic surgery within postoperative 3 d are rare.CASE SUMMARY Herein,we reported a case of intestinal edema and SMV stenosis 2 d after pancreatic surgery.The patient was successfully treated using stent grafts.Although the stenosis resolved after stent placement,complications,including bleeding,pancreatic fistula,bile leakage,and infection,made the treatment highly challenging.The use of anticoagulants was adjusted multiple times to prevent venous thromboembolism and the risk of bleeding.After careful treatment,the patient stabilized,and stent placement effectively managed postoperative PV/SMV stenosis.CONCLUSION Stent placement is effective and feasible for treating acute PV/SMV stenosis after pancreatic surgery even within postoperative 3 d.

Research on the Dynamic Response of Submerged Floating Tunnels to Wave Currents and Traffic Load

Submerged floating tunnel(SFTs)are typically subjected to complex external environmental and internal loads such as wave currents and traffic load.In this study,this problem is investigated through a finite element method able to account for fluid-structure interaction.The obtained results show that increasing the number of vehicles per unit length enhances the transverse vibrational displacements of the SFT cross sections.Under ultimate traffic load condition,one-way and two-way syntropic distributions can promote the dynamic responses of SFTs whereas two-way reverse distributions have the opposite effect.

Intra porous fibrous membranes have enhanced metal ionic adsorption and oil separation abilities than those of intra nonporous fibrous membrane.In this paper,we prepared highly intra porous fibrous poly(vinylidene fluoride)(PVDF)membranes using an innovated water-mediated electrospinning approach.FTIR-ATR and XRD techniques confirmed the conversion of non-polarα-phase to polarβ-phase in electrospun membranes.The porous fibrous membrane M–16 had adsorbed oil almost 120%and metal adsorption around 15%,12%,5%,13%respectively for Pb^(2+),Cd^(2+),Cu^(2+)and Zn^(2+),which are larger than the counterpart of nonporous M–18.The nonporous fibrous membranes have better peak to peak output voltage(Vp-Vp)2 to 3 times than the porous fibrous membranes(M–16).The results show apparent potential applications in wastewater/oil spill treatment as well as piezoelectric sensors.

Simultaneous Detection of Flare-related Decaying and Decayless Kink Oscillations Using Jerk-aware Motion Magnification

Kink oscillations of coronal loops are often influenced by external events and this results in various changes of the oscillations.Studying the changes can provide valuable information for understanding kink oscillations.Our observation focuses on a flare region acquired by the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly on the Solar Dynamics Observatory spacecraft on 2016 March 23.There are a bunch of arched loops and an open loop near the region.However,their oscillations show very low amplitudes.So we used the jerk-aware motion method to magnify the weak oscillations.We found that before the flare onset at 02:59 UT,there were some large loops above the arched loops being raised rapidly.The properties of the weak oscillations show clear changes.On the one hand,the oscillations in the arched loops were decayless initially,but both their amplitude and period increased after 02:30 UT and before the flare onset.Once enhanced,the oscillations decayed with time.On the other hand,the oscillations in the open loop were nearly constant before and after 02:30 UT,but their period increased.This means that the changes in periods and amplitudes of oscillations are likely associated with the loops raised before the flare.

Sonar Image Target Detection for Underwater Communication System Based on Deep Neural Network

Target signal acquisition and detection based on sonar images is a challenging task due to the complex underwater environment.In order to solve the problem that some semantic information in sonar images is lost and model detection performance is degraded due to the complex imaging environment,we proposed a more effective and robust target detection framework based on deep learning,which can make full use of the acoustic shadow information in the forward-looking sonar images to assist underwater target detection.Firstly,the weighted box fusion method is adopted to generate a fusion box by weighted fusion of prediction boxes with high confidence,so as to obtain accurate acoustic shadow boxes.Further,the acoustic shadow box is cut down to get the feature map containing the acoustic shadow information,and then the acoustic shadow feature map and the target information feature map are adaptively fused to make full use of the acoustic shadow feature information.In addition,we introduce a threshold processing module to improve the attention of the model to important feature information.Through the underwater sonar dataset provided by Pengcheng Laboratory,the proposed method improved the average accuracy by 3.14%at the IoU threshold of 0.7,which is better than the current traditional target detection model.

A novel variant in the GJB6 gene in a large Chinese family with a unique phenotype of Clouston syndrome

Clouston syndrome(OMIM#129500),also known as hidrotic ectodermal dysplasia type 2,is a rare autosomal dominant skin disorder.To date,four mutations in the GJB6 gene,G11R,V37E,A88V,and D50N,have been confirmed to cause this condition.In previous studies,the focus has been mainly on gene sequencing,and there has been a lack of research on clinical manifestations and pathogenesis.To confirm the diagnosis of this pedigree at the molecular level and summarize and analyse the clinical phenotype of patients and to provide a basis for further study of the pathogenesis of the disease,we performed whole-exome and Sanger sequencing on a large Chinese Clouston syndrome pedigree.Detailed clinical examination included histopathology,hair microscopy,and scanning electron microscopy.We found a novel heterozygous missense variant(c.134G>C:p.G45A)for Clouston syndrome.We identified a new clinical phenotype involving all nail needling pain in all patients and found a special honeycomb hole structure in the patients’hair under scanning electron microscopy.Our data reveal that a novel variant(c.134G>C:p.G45A)plays a likely pathogenic role in this pedigree and highlight that genetic testing is necessary for the diagnosis of Clouston syndrome.

Metabolic disorders and hepatitis: Insights from a Mendelian randomization study

BACKGROUND Hepatitis is a systemic disease that often results in various comorbidities.Meta-bolic disorders,the most common comorbidities in clinical practice,were selected for this study.AIM To investigate the causal relationship between comorbidities and hepatitis trea-tment outcomes.METHODS A total of 23583378 single nucleotide polymorphisms from 1248743 cases and related summaries of genome-wide association studies were obtained from online public databases.A two-sample Mendelian randomization(MR)was performed to investigate causality between exposure[type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2D),hyperlipidemia,and hypertension]and outcome(chronic hepatitis B or C in-fections).RESULTS The data supported the causal relationship between comorbidities and hepatitis infections,which will affect the severity of hepatitis progression and will also provide a reference for clinical researchers.All three exposures showed a link with progression of both hepatitis B(T2D,P=0.851;hyperlipidemia,P=0.596;and hypertension,P=0.346)and hepatitis C(T2D,P=0.298;hyperlipidemia,P=0.141;and hypertension,P=0.035).CONCLUSION The results of MR support a possible causal relationship between different ex-posures(T2D,hyperlipidemia,and hypertension)and chronic hepatitis progression;however,the potential mechanisms still need to be elucidated.
