A thermodynamic study of the removal of HCI and H2S from syngas

Advanced integrated-gasification combined- cycle （IGCC） and integrated-gasification fuel cell （IFGC） systems require high-temperature sorbents that are capable of removing hydrogen chloride and hydrogen sulfide from coal derived gases to very low levels. HCI and H2S are highly reactive, corrosive, and toxic gases that must be removed to meet stringent environmental regulations, to protect power generation equipment and to control the emissions of contaminants. The thermodynamic behavior of 13 sorbents for the removal of HCI and H2S under various conditions including： initial toxic gas concentra- tion （1-10000 ppm）, operating pressure （0.1-11 Mpa）, temperature （300 K-1500 K）, and the presence of H2O were investigated. The correlation between HC1 and H2S was also examined. Thermodynamic calculations were carried out for the reactions of the 113 sorbents using a FaetSage 5.2 software package based on free energy minimization. The sorbents, Na2CO3, NaHCO3, K2CO3, and CaO are capable of completely removing chlorine at high temperatures （up to -1240 K） and at high pressures. Water vapor did not have any significant effects on the dechlorination capability of the sorbents. Nine of the sorbents namely; Cu20, Na2CO3, NaHCO3, K2CO3, CaO, ZnO, MnO, FeO, and Pbo, were determined to have great potential as desulfurization sorbents. Cu2Oand ZnO had the best performance in terms of the optimum operating temperature. The addition of water vapor to the reactant gas produces a slightly detrimental effi^ct on most of the sorbents, but FeO exhibited the worst performance with a reduction in the maximum operating temperature of about 428K. The dechlorination performance of the alkali sorbents was not affected by the presence of H2S in the reactions. However, the desulfurization capability of some sorbents was greatly affected by the presence of HC1. Particularly, the performance of Cu2O was significantly reduced when HC1 was present, but the performance ofFeO improved remarkably. gather

Crown Fuel Characteristics and Carbon Emission from Japanese Red Pine Stands Burned by Crown Fire in Mt. Palgong, South Korea

Carbon emissions from forest fires are considered an important factor of ecosystem carbon balance and global climate change. Carbon emissions from Japanese red pine stands （Pinus densiflora S. et Z.） burned by crown fire were estimated at Mt. Palgong in Daegu Metropolitan City, and crown fuel characteristics, including crown bulk density, crown base height, and fuel moisture content of Japanese red pine, were analyzed. Total biomass combusted was calculated by subtracting the biomass of burned stands from that of unburned stands exhibiting similar stand structures and site environments. Ten trees in the unburned area and five trees in the burned area were cut by using direct harvesting techniques to estimate crown layer biomass. All biomass sampled was oven-dried and weighed. The dry weight ratios of stems, branches, and needles were 7o%, 21%, and 9%, respectively. The available fuel load susceptible to combustion during the crown fire spread was equivalent to 55% of the crown layer biomass. The crown bulk density was 0.24 kg/m3 on average. The estimated amount of CO2 was 23,454 kg CO2/ha for the crown layer. These results will be useful for calculating the amount of CO2 emitted from forest fires and for developing a forest carbon model in P. densiflora forests.

Simplified 3D Fading Channels Adopted in MIMO Beamforming Schemes

A simplified three-dimension（3D） fading channel model deployed in a multi-input multi-output（MIMO） beamforming system is explored in this *** angle of arrival（AoA） and angle of departure（Ao D） which impact the overall system performance are examined. The numerical results are given for validating the accuracy of the theoretical derived formulas. Furthermore, the performances of the model with different number of transmitters and receivers are studied and compared. The increment in Ao A parameters definitely generates the impact of the system performance when the consideration of simplified 3D channels.

He-Ar isotopic system of fluid inclusions in pyrite from the molybdenum deposits in south margin of North China Block and its trace to metallogenetic and geodynamic background

The helium and argon isotopic compositions of the ore-forming fluids from the molybdenum deposits such as Jinduicheng, Donggou, Shijiawan, and Sandaozhuang, which are located in the East Qinling molybdenum belt in south margin of North China Block (SMCNB), are reported in this paper. The origin and the evolution of the ore-forming fluids and their coupled-relationships with the intra-continental collision and orogenic process of Qinling Orogen in Mesozoic-Cenozoic have been discussed. The 3He/4He and 40Ar/36Ar values (3He/4He=1.38―3.64 Ra, and 40Ar/36Ar=295.68―346.39, respectively) of the fluid inclusions in pyrite from the molybdenum deposits in East Qinling suggest that, the ore-forming fluid system is mixed by two end members. One is the high temperature deep-derived fluid congenetic with the porphyries generated by crust-mantle mixing, and the other is the low-temperature meteoric water which is rich in crustal radiogenic He with the component of atmospheric Ar. From the Pb isotopic composition, and ore-bearing potential of the porphyry and the regional stratum, we can conclude that the ore-forming materials of the deposits in the East Qinling molybdenum belt are derived from the deep source by the mixing of lower crust and upper mantle. Therefore, the formation of the molybdenum deposits in SMNCB can be related to the crust-mantle interaction, which is accompanied by the intra-continental orogenic and extension process in the post-collision period of Qinling Orogen. The granitic porphyries which are related to Mo mineralization are not simple crust-remelting type granites or S type granites, but belong to syntexis-type or mantle-derived granites, hence their formation has a profound and regional geodynamic background.

Middle Paleozoic metamorphic and sedimentary events in the central Korean Peninsula and their geological implications

The Middle Paleozoic tectonic evolution of the central Korean Peninsula(Gyeonggi Massif,Hongseong-Imjingang,and Okcheon zone of Okcheon Belts)remains ***,the occurrence of high-grade metamorphism and sedimentation need further *** this study,we conducted zircon U-Pb-rare earth element analyses from in the ultramafic-mafic complex in the central Korean Peninsula(Cheonan and Gapyeong areas)and the Paleozoic metasedimentary rocks in the Okcheon Zone of the Okcheon Belt to constrain the timing of maximum depositional and metamorphic *** also examined the metamorphic P-T-t path from garnet-bearing amphibolite in the central Korean Peninsula by pseudosection modeling and *** results show that(i)some of the ultramafic-mafic complex and metasedimentary rocks in the central Korean Peninsula formed during the Middle Paleozoic(ca.450–374 Ma);(ii)garnet-bearing amphibolite underwent successive metamorphism from amphibolite facies condition(7.5–8.0 kbar and 540–630℃)at pre-peak stage to granulite facies condition(10.9–11.8 kbar and 740–820℃)at peak stage,and then retrograded into amphibolite facies condition(5.7–7.7 kbar and 530–670℃)along the clockwise P–T path during ca.403–362 *** and previous studies suggest that the central Korean Peninsula underwent subduction-related orogenic events during the Middle Paleozoic era,and it is well correlated to those of the orogenic events in the North Qinling belt.

Regulatory elements and transcriptional control of chicken vasa homologue(CVH)promoter in chicken primordial germ cells

Background： Primordial germ cells（PGCs）, the precursors of functional gametes, have distinct characteristics and exhibit several unique molecular mechanisms to maintain pluripotency and germness in comparison to somatic cells. They express germ cel-specific RNA binding proteins（RBPs） by modulating tissue-specific cis-and trans-regulatory elements. Studies on gene structures of chicken vasa homologue（CVH）, a chicken RNA binding protein, involved in temporal and spatial regulation are thus important not only for understanding the molecular mechanisms that regulate germ cel fate, but also for practical applications of primordial germ cells. However, very limited studies are available on regulatory elements that control germ cel-specific expression in chicken. Therefore, we investigated the intricate regulatory mechanism（s） that governs transcriptional control of ***： We constructed green fluorescence protein（GFP） or luciferase reporter vectors containing the various 5′ flanking regions of CVH gene. From the 5′ deletion and fragmented assays in chicken PGCs, we have identified a CVH promoter that locates at-316 to ＋275 base pair fragment with the highest luciferase activity. Additional y, we confirmed for the first time that the 5′ untranslated region（UTR） containing intron 1 is required for promoter activity of the CVH gene in chicken PGCs. Furthermore, using a transcription factor binding prediction, transcriptome analysis and siR NA-mediated knockdown,we have identified that a set of transcription factors play a role in the PGC-specific CVH gene ***： These results demonstrate that cis-elements and transcription factors localizing in the 5′ flanking region including the 5′ UTR and an intron are important for transcriptional regulation of the CVH gene in chicken PGCs. Evaluation of non-ampullary duodenal polyps: Comparison of non-neoplastic and neoplastic lesions

AIM: To evaluate duodenal polyps, divided into nonneoplastic and neoplastic lesions. In addition, the clinical characteristics of duodenal hyperplastic polyps are determined. METHODS: We analyzed medical records of 50 114 consecutive patients submitted to for first diagnostic esophago-gastroduodenoscopy between January 2004 and December 2009. We excluded lesions on the ampulla of Vater and submucosal tumors. We studied 510 cases that were diagnosed endoscopically with duodenal polyps and enrolled a total of 221 cases that had undergone tissue biopsy. We analyzed the differences between non-neoplastic and neoplastic lesions, and determined the clinical features of duodenal hyperplastic polyps. RESULTS: Non-neoplastic lesions were found in 196 patients and neoplastic lesions in 25 patients. On uni-variate analysis, there were significant differences in shape, location, and size. Polyps more than 10 mm in diameter or polyps in the second portion had independent risk factors for being neoplastic lesions, as identified by multivariate analysis. In 23 cases of hyperplastic polyps (79.3%), they were accompanied by gastroduodenal pathology, which was possibly associated with Helicobacter pylori . CONCLUSION: Polyps of more than 10 mm or polyps in the second portion of the duodenum should be evaluated by histological examination.
