Background-Minute ventilation sensors of cardiac pacemakers measure ventilation by means of transthoracic impedance changes between the pacemaker case and the electrode tip. We investigated whether this technique might detect sleep-related breathing disorders. Methods and Results-In 22 patients, analog waveforms of the transthoracic impedance signal measured by the pacemaker minute ventilation sensor over the course of a night were visualized, scored for apnea/hypopnea events, and compared with simultaneous polysomnography. Analysis of transthoracic impedance signals correctly identified the presence or absence of moderate to severe sleep apnea (apnea/ hypopnea index, AHI >20 h-1) in all patients (receiver operating characteristics, ROC=10.). The ROC for AHI scores of ≥5 h-1 and 10 h-1 showed an area under the curve of 0.95, Pespectively. Accuracy over time assessed by comparing events per 5-minute epochs was high (Cronbach αreliability coefficient, 0.85; intraclass correlation, 0.73). event-by-event comparison within ±15 seconds revealed agreement in 81%(κ, 0.77; Petection of apnea/hypopnea events by pacemaker minute ventilation sensors is feasible and accurate compared with laboratory polysomnography. This technique might be useful to screen and monitor sleep-related breathing disorders in pacemaker patients.

A free running arcadian rest-activity cycle is rare in sighted individuals living in a normal environment. even morerareis a periodicity shorter than 24 hours, as observed in actigraphic recordings in a female patient during convales-cence after a whiplash injury in a car accident. The documented free running period was 22.5 hours for 19 days. During the subsequent weeks re-entrainment occurred following re-establishment by a social zeitgeber, with a slightly early circadian phase of nocturnal melatonin onset relative to a late sleep period. Magnetic resonance imaging and cerebral angiography showed an aneurysm at the bifurcation of the right internal carotid artery, close to the circadian pacemaker structure (the suprachiasmatic nuclei), which was later occluded.

Accuracy and Consistency of Respiratory Inductive Plethysmography for Overnight Tidal Volume Measurement

To validate the accuracy and consistency of respiratory inductive plethysmography (RIP) in measuring tidal volume after an overnight sleep, tidal volumes of 18 patients with suspected sleep disordered breathing and 8 normal volunteers were measured simultaneously with RIP (V TRIP ) and with an ultrasonic airflow meter (V TUFM ) before and after an unstrained overnight sleep on supine and lateral decubitus. The bias of the V TRIP was expressed as (V TRIP V TUFM )/ V TUFM ·100 %, limits of agreement between V TRIP and V TUFM was measured by averaged bias ±2 s . Results showed that in normal subjects, the bias of RIP before and after overnight sleep was precise and consistent in both supine (0.7 % and -1.6 %) and lateral decubitus (3.7 % and -0.56 %). In these patients, the bias of RIP before and after sleep in supine also remained small (1.9 % and 1.7 %), but it became larger in lateral decubitus (24.5 % and 20.4 %) and 11.5 % exceeded the limits of agreement observed in the evening. The patients′ body mass indices (BMI) were higher than those of normal subjects (median 34.2 vs. 27.8 kg/m 2). Pooled data showed that the bias of V TRIP in the morning on lateral decubitus but not on supine was correlated to BMI (Spearman R=0.32, n =52, P =0.02). Thus, we were led to conclude that the accuracy of V TRIP overnight was precise and consistent in normal subjects, but the deviation of V TRIP measured on lateral decubitus in patients especially in those with excessive obesity was greater, thus, the method should not be used for quantitative determination.

This paper presents a generic mathematical model for depicting the diffusion of an innovative product on a given market. Our approach relies on a probabilistic modeling of each customer behavior with respect to the commercial process which is used to promote such a product. We introduce in particular the concept of coherent market that corresponds to a market which can be analyzed in a uniform way within our model. This last notion allows us to recover the classical empirical results that were discovered and widely studied by e.M. Rogers and his school. We explain finally how to use our approach as a support for analytic predictive marketing.

Objective:To examine the impact of a 6-week.e.durance training on red blood cell(RBC)aging and deformability of healthy participants to detect possible improved hemorheological and performance-related ***:A total of 31 participants(17 females and 14 males)performed a 6-week moderate training protocol(three 1-h running sessions per week at 70%of maximal heart rate).Blood was sampled before and after the *** from each participant were fractioned according to density and age into 4 RBC *** were examined for changes of RBC properties,including aging distribution,RBC deformability,RBC microparticles,and phosphatidylserine *** and plasma nitrite levels were measured as indicators of nitric oxide ***:Aerobic performance,peak oxygen consumption,ventilatory thresholds,velocity at the aerobic-anaerobic threshold,and lactate at exhaustion improved after *** relative amount of both young RBCs and old RBCs increased,and the amount of the main RBC fraction *** externalization and RBC-derived microparticles *** deformability expressed as shear stress required to achieve half-maximum deformation to theoretical maximal elongation index at infinite shear stress improved in unfractioned RBCs(pe decreased in total(p=0.001),young(ped RBCs and in plasma(p=0.002),but not in very old ***:These results indicate that non-endurance-trained healthy participants benefit from a regular moderate running training program because performance-related parameters improve and a younger RBC population with improved RBC properties is induced,which might support oxygen supply in the microcirculation.

The identification of jets originating from quarks and gluons,often referred to as quark/gluon tagging,plays an important role in various analyses performed at the Large Hadron Collider,as Standard Model measurements and searches for new particles decaying to quarks often rely on suppressing a large gluon-induced *** paper describes the measurement of the efficiencies of quark/gluon taggers developed within the ATLAS Collaboration,using √s=13 TeV proton–proton collision data with an integrated luminosity of 140 fb^(-1) collected by the ATLAS *** taggers with high performances in rejecting jets from gluon over jets from quarks are studied:one tagger is based on requirements on the number of inner-detector tracks associated with the jet,and the other combines several jet substructure observables using a boosted decision tree.A method is established to determine the quark/gluon fraction in data,by using quark/gluon-enriched subsamples defined by the jet *** in tagging efficiency between data and simulation are provided for jets with transverse momentum between 500 GeV and 2 TeV and for multiple tagger working points.

Hippocampal morphological change is one of the main hallmarks of Alzheimer’s disease(AD).However,whether hippocampal radiomic features are robust as predictors of progression from mild cognitive impairment(MCI)to AD dementia and whether these features provide any neurobiological foundation remains *** primary aim of this study was to verify whether hippocampal radiomic features can serve as robust magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)markers for *** classifier-based support vector machine(SVM)analysis provided individual-level predictions for distinguishing AD patients(n=261)from normal controls(NCs;n=231)with an accuracy of 88.21%and intersite *** analyses of a large,independent the Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative(ADNI)dataset(n=1228)reinforced these *** MCI groups,a systemic analysis demonstrated that the identified features were significantly associated with clinical features(e.g.,apolipoprotein e(APOe)genotype,polygenic risk scores,cerebrospinal fluid(CSF)Ab,CSF Tau),and longitudinal changes in cognition ability;more importantly,the radiomic features had a consistently altered pattern with changes in the MMSe scores over 5 years of *** comprehensive results suggest that hippocampal radiomic features can serve as robust biomarkers for clinical application in AD/MCI,and further provide evidence for predicting whether an MCI subject would convert to AD based on the radiomics of the *** results of this study are expected to have a substantial impact on the early diagnosis of AD/MCI.
