endoscopic Aspects of Caustic Injuries of the Upper Gastrointestinal Tract in Parakou, Benin Republic: A Multicenter Study

Objective: Caustic ingestion is a medico-surgical emergency. The objective of this study is to describe endoscopic lesions of the upper gastrointestinal tract secondary to caustic ingestion in Parakou, Benin Republic. Patients and Methods: This was a retrospective and descriptive cross-sectional study. The study was multicenter in the gastrointestinal endoscopy units of the Teaching Hospital Center of Borgou-Alibori and the Military Teaching Hospital of Parakou. It covered the period from July 2015 to October 2021. This included any patient who ingested a caustic substance and performed a gastroscopy in one of the two endoscopy units. The variables studied were: socio-demographic data, the nature of the caustic substance ingested, the time between the caustic ingestion and the performance of gastroscopy and injuries of the upper gastrointestinal tract. Results: Out of the 24 patients included, 19 were men, i.e. a sex ratio of 3.8. Their average age was 25.54 ± 12.04 years with extremes of 6 and 50 years. Five subjects (20.83%) were under the age of 18 and the ingestion was accidental in them. Among the 19 patients aged at least 18 years, caustic ingestion was voluntary in 14 (73.68%). The caustic substance ingested was either a base (sodium hydroxide or caustic soda) or an acid (sulfuric acid) in 14 cases (58.33%) and 10 cases (41.67%), respectively. The time between the caustic ingestion and the performance of gastroscopy varied from 1 to 1095 days. The endoscopic lesions objectified were: stenosis (37.5%), ulcerations (29.17%), necrosis (20.83%), or erythema (12.25%). Conclusion: In Parakou, caustic ingestion, usually bases, is often voluntary in adult men. endoscopic lesions were often ulcerative but sometimes necrotic.

Applied the Large Scale Particle Image Velocimetry Technique for Measurement the Velocity of Gravity Currents in the Laboratory

This study includes a series of laboratory experiments for investigated the gravity current of fresh water with density ρ-?ρ, and initial speed u0 upon the free surface of an ambient liquid (salty water) with density ρ at rest in a basin. It’s have been presented to illuminate the dominant flow and transport phenomena in the presence of river, stream and wetland ecology, stream corridor restoration, in the case of accidental pollution spills. The characterized of the local kinematic field, i.e. the local velocity and vorticity fields, the measurement methods include particle image velocimetry (PIV) at the water surface using a technique similar to large scale of particle image velocimetry (LSPIV).

Vibration Control of a Plate Subjected to Impulsive Force by Plate-Type Dynamic Vibration Absorbers

This paper examines modelling of the dynamics of a plate by plate type dynamics vibration absorber subjected to a localized periodic impulsive excitation. An analytical solution of the modal equation is proposed and validated using direct numerical simulation of the basic equations. The basics equations are solve numerically using fourth order Runge Kutta algorithm. Various types of dynamic absorbing plate are tested to optimize the control efficiency. Particular attentions have been paid on the effects of localization of external forces on the dynamics response of the system under control. Ours findings demonstrate that a good achievement of control strategy should follow the above mentioned analysis.

色林错湖位于青藏高原内部,是西藏第一大咸水内陆湖。研究区剖面选自色林错第三湖泊阶地,利用常用气候替代指标色度,结合粒度、碳酸盐含量[CaCO3(%)]、矿物分析和全有机质(TOC)等进行对比分析,同时采用14C测年方法对剖面进行准确的年代划分,初步探讨了末次冰盛期以来色林错湖泊沉积物色度增强机制的差异性。研究表明:a*、b*与中粗粒砂、磁化率具有较好的相关性;亮度L*与CaCO3(%)具较好相关性;因而沉积物色度变化可反应区域古气候变化。同时对湖泊沉积物矿物分析发现,影响色度变化的制色矿物主要是针铁矿,且以还原环境为主。红度a*高值与亮度L*低值对应气候暖湿气候环境,沉积物粒度较粗,碳酸盐含量低,有机质含量高,磁化率较高值;反之,红度a*低值,L*高值,粒度较细,碳酸盐含量高,有机质含量低,磁化率低值,对应干冷气候。在17.4~15.5 cal ka BP阶段,对应干冷的气候特点;在15.5~10.4 cal ka BP阶段,对应温暖湿润的气候;在10.4~5.2 cal ka BP阶段,整体属于温暖湿润的气候特点;其中,在9.7~9.4 cal ka BP和8.75~8.5 cal ka BP为两个重要的冷事件,属于干湿的气候特点;在5.2~1.2 cal ka BP阶段,反映了干冷的气候特征;在4.3~4.0 cal ka BP,3.3~3.0 cal ka BP和2.4~1.75 cal ka BP,反映了干旱温暖的气候特点;在1.2 cal ka BP以后,色林错湖湖水迅速下降。

Homozygous Hemoglobinosis CC: A Series of 3 Cases and a Review of the Literature

Hemoglobinosis C occurs mainly in Africa and America with a high frequency in West Africa. In Senegal, homozygous hemoglobinopathy CC constitutes a very rare profile of which only 3 cases are followed in the clinical hematology department of Dakar. The 1st case is a 49-year-old female patient, with notion of 1st degree consanguinity, and a long history of abdominal pain who presented a poorly tolerated anemic syndrome and splenomegaly. The biological assessment showed moderate anemia (7.6 g/dL) with microcytic hypochromia and a CC profile (HbC = 99.2%;HbA2 = 0.8%) on hemoglobin electrophoresis. The second case was a 22-year-old female patient with a notion of 2nd degree consanguinity who presented a Chauffard triad. The haemogram showed mild anaemia (11 g/dL), microcytic and hypochromic. Hemoglobin electrophoresis confirmed a CC profile (HbC = 95.3%;HbA2 = 4.7%). The third patient was 27 years old, with a history of diffuse abdominal pain and 2nd degree consanguinity. The haemogram and haemoglobin electrophoresis confirmed the CC profile (HbC = 94.6%;HbA2 = 5.4%). The negativity of the emmel test in front of this presentation suggestive of sickle cell disease means that this type of hemoglobinopathy is diagnosed late in our regions. We therefore recommend the systematic performance of hemoglobin electrophoresis in the presence of any chronic hemolytic anemia.

Antisickling activity of butyl stearate isolated from Ocimum basilicum(Lamiaceae)

Objective:To perform phytochemical analyses on the leaves of Ocimum basilicum L.(***),to elucidate the structure of isolate and then perform the antisickling activity on the crude extract and on the ***:The emmel test performed on the acidified methanolic extract of this plant was used to evaluate the antisickling *** structure characterization of the active compound was performed using chromatographic techniques for the separation and the spectroscopic ones for structure elucidation(1H-nMR,***,HMBC).Resurte:The chemical screening on the crude extract revealed the presence of polyphenols(flavonoids,anthocyanins,leucoanthocyanins,tannins,quinones) alkaloids,saponins,triterpenoids and *** ohtained extract after evaporation yielded 34.50g(11.5%) out of 300g of powdered leaves of *** acidified methanolic extract and butyl stearate showed an interesting antisickling ***:The acidified methanolic extract and butyl stearate from *** displayed a good antisickling *** the best of our knowledge,this is the first time to report the antisickling activity of this compound in this *** synmesized compound presented the same spectroscopic characteristics than the natural one and the antisickling activities of its derivatives are understudying.

Jejuno-Ileal Ruptures after Blunt Abdominal Trauma at the Teaching Hospital of Bouake

Objective: The aim of this study is to determine the causes, pattern, management, and outcome of jejunal-ileal rupture following blunt abdominal trauma at the teaching Hospital of Bouake. Methods: The study included 27 patients who underwent laparotomy for jejunoileal injuries from blunt abdominal trauma at the Teaching Hospital of Bouake over a period of 14 years from January 2007 to December 2020. A retrospective study was conducted and the patients were analyzed with respect to patient demographics data, cause, injury mechanisms, presentation, anatomical distribution, diagnostic methods, associated injuries, treatment and outcomes. Results: During the 14 year period from 2007 to 2020, 27 patients with blunt small bowel injuries were treated at our Teaching Hospital. That is 2.9% of all blunt abdominal trauma. Male to female ratio was 4.4:1 and the average age was 26.3 years (range: 15 and 50 years). The majority (66.7% 18 cases) were Victims of road traffic accident. Median delay between injury and arrival at hospital for these patients was 10.1 hours (range: 1 - 72 h). A single intestinal injury was present in 22 patients, while 5 patients suffered from 2 injuries. There were 32 perforations of the small intestine in 27 patients with two perforations being transection. All perforations were located on the antimesenteric border of the intestine. Out of the 32 jejuno-ileal ruptures 18 were located on the jejunum while 14 were located on the ileum. Associated intra-abdominal injuries were present in 6 patients and nineteen associated extra-abdominal injuries were present in 10 (70.4%) patients. A one-stage therapeutic strategy was performed in 20 cases (74.1%) and a two-stage strategy was performed in seven cases (25.9%). Intestinal continuity was restored 93.8 days later (range 60 and 140 days). The average length of hospital stay of the operated patients was 11.4 days. The operative morbidity was 25.9%. Intracranial Calcified extradural Hematoma about a Case

Introduction: extradural hematoma is a common pathology in our department. The natural history of small-volume hematoma is usually towards resorption. In rare cases, the hematoma calcifies and compresses the brain. We report an extradural hematoma in a 15-year-old boy who had a road traffic accident on February 2011. The brain CT-scan performed the following day revealed a small right frontal extradural hematoma. During hospitalization, he had a fever of 40 degrees with convulsions and the blood culture isolated the coagulase-negative staphylococci and Group D streptococci. When his conscience was restored, hemiparesis and dysarthria were observed. The control brain CT-scan performed 2 weeks after the trauma showed early resorption of the hematoma. Two months after the trauma, the brain CT-scan showed calcification of the hematoma. He underwent surgery in April 2011 to remove the calcification. The sequels were hemiparesis and posttraumatic epilepsy. Conclusion: The evolution of a small non-operated extradural hematoma can be done towards calcification thus requiring surgery.

Preliminary Research Study for Antibiotics in eggs Produced and Sold in Bamako, Mali

The quality of agri-food products, in particular those of poultry origin, has now become an imperative. Because of the antibiotics used in poultry production, we are seeing the presence of antibiotic residues in products from poultry farming, especially eggs. Residues in eggs do not always comply with regulatory requirements, which can have harmful consequences for consumers such as: risk of allergies or risk of antibiotic resistance. This study was carried out with the aim of evaluating the presence of residues of veterinary antibiotics in eggs produced and marketed in the district of Bamako and surroundings. All samples were analyzed using the Premi ®Test which is a rapid detection kit for antibiotic residues in different materials. We collected 900 eggs from 10 farms and 10 markets in Bamako. Out of 900 eggs, 228 were tested. One hundred and eighty-nine (189) eggs tested negative for the presence of antibiotic residues, i.e. 82.9%;on the other hand, 39 were positive, i.e. 17.1%. This study clearly shows the presence of antibiotic residues in eggs from farms and various markets in Bamako and the surrounding area. This will allow us to continue our study at a later date to identify the types of antibiotic and to dose them.
