In recent years,various gene-edited crops and livestock have been developed to find rapid and unconventional solutions to boost agriculture,animal breeding,environmental sustain-ability,and animal welfare.In the animal production field,significant gene-edited livestock with economic beneficial traits,like the MSTN-edited double muscles,can be com-mercialized on a large scale to benefit more people with real need.Nutritional demand for animal proteins increases an-nually with improvement of living conditions in modern societies and developing countries.Additionally,the number of people with special needs for healthier meat(with high-protein and low-fat)is growing(e.g.,elderly patients with cardio/cerebrovascular diseases).With steady global en-vironmental deterioration,increasing human population,growing food demand,continuous disease outbreaks,and concerns regarding animal welfare。

The task to estimate all the parameters of an unknown quantum state, also called quantum state tomography, is essential for characterizing and controlling quantum systems. In this paper, we utilize observable time traces to identify the initial quantum state of a closed quantum system, based on the state space approach in the control theory. In the informationally complete scenario, we show that with a linear regression estimation (LRE), the mean squared error (MSE) scales as , where N is the resource number. In the informationally incomplete scenario, we introduce regularization LRE to perform the state tomography task. We employ PBH test to demonstrate that closed quantum systems with only one observable are informationally incomplete and propose using observables, where d is the dimension of the quantum state, for informational completeness. Numerical examples demonstrate the effectiveness of our method.

BACKGROUND Ulcerative colitis is a chronic inflammatory disease of the colon with an unknown etiology.Alkaline sphingomyelinase(alk-SMase)is specifically expressed by intestinal epithelial cells,and has been reported to play an anti-inflammatory role.However,the underlying mechanism is still unclear.AIM To explore the mechanism of alk-SMase anti-inflammatory effects on intestinal barrier function and oxidative stress in dextran sulfate sodium(DSS)-induced colitis.METHODS Mice were administered 3%DSS drinking water,and disease activity index was determined to evaluate the status of colitis.Intestinal permeability was evaluated by gavage administration of fluorescein isothiocyanate dextran,and bacterial translocation was evaluated by measuring serum lipopolysaccharide.Intestinal epithelial cell ultrastructure was observed by electron microscopy.Western blotting and quantitative real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction were used to detect the expression of intestinal barrier proteins and mrnA,respectively.Serum oxidant and antioxidant marker levels were analyzed using commercial kits to assess oxidative stress levels.RESULTS Compared to wild-type(WT)mice,inflammation and intestinal permeability in alk-SMase knockout(KO)mice were more severe beginning 4 d after DSS induction.The mrnA and protein levels of intestinal barrier proteins,including zonula occludens-1,occludin,claudin-3,claudin-5,claudin-8,mucin 2,and secretory immunoglobulin A,were significantly reduced on 4 d after DSS treatment.Ultrastructural observations revealed progressive damage to the tight junctions of intestinal epithelial cells.Furthermore,by day 4,mitochondria appeared swollen and degenerated.Additionally,compared to WT mice,serum malondialdehyde levels in KO mice were higher,and the antioxidant capacity was significantly lower.The expression of the transcription factor nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2(Nrf2)in the colonic mucosal tissue of KO mice was significantly decreased after DSS treatment.mrnA levels of Nrf2-re

Biomechanics associated with tibial stress fracture in runners:A systematic review and meta-analysis

Background:Tibial stress fracture(TSF)is an overuse running injury with a long recovery period.While many running studies refer to biomechanical risk factors for TSF,only a few have compared biomechanics in runners with TSF to controls.The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate biomechanics in runners with TSF compared to controls.Methods:Electronic databases PubMed,Web of Science,SPORTDiscus,Scopus,Cochrane,and CINAHL were searched.Risk of bias was assessed and meta-analysis conducted for variables reported in 3 or more studies.Results:The search retrieved 359 unique records,but only the 14 that compared runners with TSF to controls were included in the review.Most studies were retrospective,2 were prospective,and most had a small sample size(5-30 per group).Many variables were not significantly different between groups.Meta-analysis of peak impact,active,and braking ground reaction forces found no significant differences between groups.Individual studies found larger tibial peak anterior tensile stress,peak posterior compressive stress,peak axial acceleration,peak rearfoot eversion,and hip adduction in the TSF group.Conclusion:Meta-analysis indicated that discrete ground reaction force variables were not statistically significantly different in runners with TSF compared to controls.In individual included studies,many biomechanical variables were not statistically significantly different between groups.However,many were reported by only a single study,and sample sizes were small.We encourage additional studies with larger sample sizes of runners with TSF and controls and adequate statistical power to confirm or refute these findings.

Public participation geographic information system(PPGIS)is a facilitated Volunteered Geographic Information approach and data collection method that aims to capture the spatial experiences of individuals.Although we experience the space around us three-dimensionally,altitude,as the third dimension,has been often absent from PPGis research and practice.This is largely because of the complexity of implementing surveys in 3D but can also be attributed to a lack of analytical preparedness for using such data.This study complements 3D PPGIS data collected from a pilot study of the Aninkainen block in Turku,Finland with synthetic,i.***.artificially manufactured,data to propose an analytical framework for the study of 3D PPGIS data.The analytical framework divides methods based on the geographical scale into two groups:micro-and macro-scale analysis.In this framework,we propose the use of geospatial metrics to analyze 3D PPGIS data.We argue that while this multidisciplinary area of research is in its infancy,use of intuitive 3D adapted geometric and landscape metrics can help overcome some of complexities associated with use of this emerging participatory data.We conclude by outlining the limitations and envisioning areas for future research.

BACKGROUND Aneurysmal bone cysts(ABC)are benign cystic bone tumors of an osteolytic and locally aggressive nature.As an alternative to the primary treatment of choice,which consists of curettage with bone grafting,alternative treatment methods with promising results have been described.At our department,we have,in recent years,used percutaneous sclerotherapy with polidocanol.The objective of this study was to identify the healing rate and safety of sclerotherapy with polidocanol.AIM To identify the efficacy and safety of sclerotherapy with polidocanol in primary and recurrent ABC.METHODS Twenty-two consecutive patients(median age 12.5 years;range 1-27)with 23 ABCs treated with sclerotherapy with polidocanol from 2016-2021 were included retrospectively.Eleven patients(48%)had undergone different forms of previous treatment with recurrence.Under general anesthesia and fluoroscopic guidance,repeated percutaneous injections of 4mg polidocanol/kg body weight were performed.Through review of the electronic medical records,the following were identified:healing and recurrence rate,number of treatments,gender,age,comorbidity,location of the tumor and side effects/complications,as well as any previous surgery for ABC.The median length of radiographic follow-up was 19.5 mo.RESULTS All ABCs except one(96%)showed healing or stable disease after a median of 4(range 1-8)injections.Complete clinical and radiographic healing was observed in 16 cysts(70%),while partial radiographic healing with resolution of pain was seen in 6 cases(26%)and considered as stable disease.The cyst that failed to heal had previously undergone curettage twice with recurrence.One patient with a large pelvic ABC experienced,right after two injections,a sudden drop in blood pressure,which could quickly be reversed.One patient with a juxtaphyseal ABC in the femoral neck showed a minor limb length discrepancy because of deformity.Beyond that,no complications were observed.CONCLUSION Percutaneous sclerotherapy with polidocanol appears to be a safe alternativ

Effect of processing and accelerated storage on the volatile composition and sensory profile of a tomato soup

The volatile and sensory profile of pasteurized(95℃,18 min)and sterilized(120℃,14 min)tomato soup and its changes at accelerated storage conditions(37℃and 42℃)were identified,characterized,and correlated by predictive models.Sterilization led to more profound changes over storage compared to pasteurisation,showing enhanced levels of‘dark'odour,‘burnt'flavour,and‘complexity',while pasteurized soup had more pronounced‘green'odour,‘vegetables'flavour,‘harmony',and‘freshness'.Over time,‘dark'and‘burnt'significantly increased for sterilized soups,whereas‘green'decreased significantly only for sterilized soup stored at 42℃.The changes of‘dark',‘green',‘off-flavour,‘burnt',‘har mony',and‘freshness'were associated with formation of furans(furfural and 2-acetyl-5-methylfuran),and decline of unsaturated aldehydes like E-2-octenal and E,E-2,4-heptadienal.These compounds were identified to represent potential shelf-life markers,yet more studies on their odour activity in the tomato soup matrix are necessary to understand their contribution to the sensory quality.The construction of partial least squares models allowed the prediction of‘green',‘off-flavour',‘burnt',and‘freshness'based on selected volatiles.These models will be important tools in the process of predicting the end of shelf life,but need to be supplemented with consumer acceptability levels.

This paper considers the problem of constructing a direct coupling quantum observer for a closed linear quantum system. The proposed distributed observer consists of a network of quantum harmonic oscillators and it is shown that the observer network converges to a consensus in a time averaged sense in which each element of the observer estimates the specified output of the quantum plant. An example and simulations are included to illustrate the properties of the observer network.

Following a short struggle against an aggressive cancer, Prof. Jure Piskur （Fig. 1 ）, a professor of molecular genetics at Lund University （LU）, Sweden, and the University of Nova Gorica （UNG）, Slovenia, died in his home in Lund on 18 May 2014. He leaves behind his lifelong partner and wife, Judita Gartner, and their sons, Jan and Jure.
