Influence of different Fe doping strategies on modulating active sites and oxygen reduction reaction performance of Fe, N-doped carbonaceous catalysts

Fe/N/C catalysts,synthesized through the pyrolysis of Fe-doped metal–organic framework (MOF) precursors,have attracted extensive attention owing to their promising oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) catalytic activity in fuel cells and/or metal-air batteries.However,post-treatments (acid washing,second pyrolysis,and so on) are unavoidable to improve ORR catalytic activity and stability.The method for introducing Fe^(3+) sources (anhydrous Fe Cl_(3)) into the MOF structure,in particular,is a critical step that can avoid time-consuming post-treatments and result in more exposed Fe-N_(x) active sites.Herein,three different Fe doping strategies were systematically investigated to explore their influence on the types of active sites formed and ORR performance.Fe-NC(Zn^(2+)),synthesized by one-step pyrolysis of Fe doped ZIF-8 (Zn^(2+)) precursor which was obtained by adding the anhydrous Fe Cl_(3)source into the Zn(NO_(3))_(2)·6H_(2)O/methanol solution before mixing,possessed the highest Fe-N_(x)active sites due to the high-efficiency substitution of Zn^(2+)ions with Fe^(3+) ions during ZIF-8 growth,the strong interaction between Fe^(3+) ions and N atoms of 2-Methylimidazole (2-MIm),and ZIF-8’s micropore confinement effect.As a result,Fe-NC(Zn^(2+)) presented high ORR activity in the entire p H range (p H=1,7,and 13).At p H=13,Fe-NC(Zn^(2+)) exhibited a half-wave potential (E1/2) of 0.95 V (vs.reversible hydrogen electrode),which was 70 m V higher than that of commercial Pt/C.More importantly,Fe-NC(Zn^(2+)) showed superior ORR stability in neutral media without performance loss after 5,000 cycles.A record-high open-circuit voltage(1.9 V) was obtained when Fe-NC(Zn^(2+)) was used as a cathodic catalyst in assembled Mg-air batteries in neutral media.The assembled liquid and all-solid Mg-air batteries with high performance indicated that Fe-NC(Zn^(2+)) has enormous potential for use in flexible and wearable Mg-air batteries.

Galactic cosmic ray propagation: sub-PeV diffuse gamma-ray and neutrino emission

The Tibet ASγexperiment just reported their measurement of sub-PeV diffuse gamma-ray emission from the Galactic disk,with the highest energy up to 957 TeV.These diffuse gamma rays are most likely the hadronic origin by cosmic ray(CR)interaction with interstellar gas in the galaxy.This measurement provides direct evidence to the hypothesis that the Galactic Cosmic Rays(GCRs)can be accelerated beyond PeV energies.In this work,we try to explain the sub-PeV diffuse gamma-ray spectrum with different CR propagation models.We find that there is a tension between the sub-PeV diffuse gamma-ray and the local CR spectrum.To describe the sub-PeV diffuse gamma-ray flux,it generally requires larger local CR flux than measurement in the knee region.We further calculate the PeV neutrino flux from the CR propagation model.Even all of these sub-PeV diffuse gamma rays originate from the propagation,the Galactic Neutrinos(GNs)only account for less than∼15%of observed flux,most of which are still from extragalactic sources.

In this study,a new method was developed to realize two-dimensional(2D)figure correction of grazing-incidence X-ray mirrors using a one-dimensional(1D)ion-beam figuring system.A mask of holes was specifically designed to generate removal functions at different widths and extend the figuring capability over a wide area.Accordingly,a long mirror could be manufactured.Using this method,the surface height root-mean-square(RMS)error of the center area of 484 mm×16 mm was reduced from 11.49 nm to 2.01 nm,and the 1D meridional RMS error reached 1.0 nm.The proposed method exhibits high precision and cost effectiveness for production of long X-ray mirrors.

To the Editor:The global trend of an aging population and an epidemic of coronary heart diseases(CHDs)have led to an increasing volume of non-cardiac surgeries in patients with CHDs.[1,2]Drastic fluctuation of hemodynamic parameters can be life-threatening for CHD patients with little tolerance to the increased cardiac load and decreased oxygen delivery.[3]Residual paralysis of muscle relaxation after general anesthesia may lead to hypoxemia with respiratory muscle weakness and aggravate the patient's tension.The cholinesterase inhibitor neostigmine is routinely used to reverse the neuromuscular blockade(NMB)after surgeries under general anesthesia.However,the combined use of neostigmine and atropine in patients with CHD may be potentially problematic because of side effects,such as myocardial ischemia,cardiac arrhythmia,or atrioventricular block.[4]Sugammadex is a new NMB reversal that is selective for steroidal muscle relaxants,particularly rocuronium.However,the effect of sugammadex on the recovery profiles of CHD patients has not been fully elucidated.

Sea level rise projection in the South China Sea from CMIP5 models

Future potential sea level change in the South China Sea （SCS） is estimated by using 24 CMIP5 models under different representative concentration pathway （RCP） scenarios. By the end of the 21st century （2081–2100 relative to 1986–2005）, the multimodel ensemble mean dynamic sea level （DSL） is projected to rise 0.9, 1.6, and 1.1 cm under RCP2.6, RCP4.5, and RCP8.5 scenarios, respectively, resulting in a total sea level rise （SLR） of 40.9, 48.6, and 64.1 cm in the SCS. It indicates that the SCS will experience a substantial SLR over the 21st century, and the rise is only marginal larger than the global mean SLR. During the same period, the steric sea level （SSL） rise is estimated to be 6.7, 10.0, and 15.3 cm under the three scenarios, respectively, which accounts only for 16%, 21% and 24% of the total SLR in this region. The changes of the SSL in the SCS are almost out of phase with those of the DSL for the three scenarios. The central deep basin has a slightly weak DSL rise, but a strong SSL rise during the 21st century, compared with the north and southwest shelves.

MRUNet:A two-stage segmentation model for small insect targets in complex environments

Online automated identification of farmland pests is an important auxiliary means of pest control.In practical applications,the online insect identification system is often unable to locate and identify the target pest accurately due to factors such as small target size,high similarity between species and complex backgrounds.To facilitate the identification of insect larvae,a two-stage segmentation method,MRUNet was proposed in this study.Structurally,MRUNet borrows the practice of object detection before semantic segmentation from Mask R-CNN and then uses an improved lightweight UNet to perform the semantic segmentation.To reliably evaluate the segmentation results of the models,statistical methods were introduced to measure the stability of the performance of the models among samples in addition to the evaluation indicators commonly used for semantic segmentation.The experimental results showed that this two-stage image segmentation strategy is effective in dealing with small targets in complex backgrounds.Compared with existing state-of-the-art semantic segmentation methods,MRUNet shows better stability and detail processing ability under the same conditions.This study provides a reliable reference for the automated identification of insect larvae.

In 2013,the first dengue fever（DF） outbreak in central China was reported in the central of Henan province,northern temperate regions,although they have been sequentially recorded in Southern China.106 suspected DF cases were reported and 73 patients were confirmed dengue virus type 3（DEN-3） infections.62/392（15.8%） local health persons showed DEN antibodies positive.To this day Henan is the northernmost province in China which has been reported about outbreak of DF and what is important is that it warns us the endemic range of DF has been expanded geographically in China.

Effect of temperature tuning on the aerosol acoustic aggregation process

Diesel exhaust aerosols（DEAs） can absorb and accumulate toxic metal particulates and bacteria suspended in the atmospheric environment, which impact human health and the environment.The use of acoustic standing waves（ASWs） to aggregate DEA is currently considered to be an efficient particle removal method; however, study of the effect of different temperatures on the acoustic aggregation process is scarce. To explore the method and technology to regulate and optimize the aerosol aggregation process through temperature tuning, an acoustic apparatus integrated with a temperature regulation function was constructed. Using this apparatus, the effect of different characteristic temperatures（CTs） on the aerosol aggregation process was investigated experimentally in the ASW environment. Under constant conditions of acoustic frequency 1.286 kHz, voltage amplitude 17 V and input electric power 16.7 W, the study concentrated on temperature effects on the aggregation process in the CT range of 58–72℃. The DEA opacity was used. The results demonstrate that the aggregation process is quite sensitive to the CT, and that the optimal DEA aggregation can be achieved at 66℃. The aggregated particles of 68.17 μm are composed of small nanoparticles of 13.34–62.15 nm. At CTs higher and lower than 66℃, the apparatus in non-resonance mode reduces the DEA aggregation level. For other instruments, the method for obtaining the optimum temperature for acoustic agglomeration is universal. This preliminary demonstration shows that the use of acoustic technology to regulate the aerosol aggregation process through tuning the operating temperature is feasible and convenient.
