Extrusion 3D printing of carbon nanotube-assembled carbon aerogel nanocomposites with high electrical conductivity

Carbon nanotubes(CNTs)with high aspect ratio and excellent electrical conduction offer huge functional improvements for current carbon ***,there remains a major challenge for achieving the on-demand shaping of carbon aerogels with tailored micro-nano structural textures and geometric ***,a facile extrusion 3D printing strategy has been proposed for fabricating CNT-assembled carbon(CNT/C)aerogel nanocomposites through the extrusion printing of pseudoplastic carbomer-based inks,in which the stable dispersion of CNT nanofibers has been achieved relying on the high viscosity of carbomer *** extrusion printing,the chemical solidification through polymerizing RF sols enables 3D-printed aerogel nanocomposites to display high shape fidelity in macroscopic *** from the micro-nano scale assembly of CNT nanofiber networks and carbon nanoparticle networks in composite phases,3D-printed CNT/C aerogels exhibit enhanced mechanical strength(fracture strength,0.79 MPa)and typical porous structure characteristics,including low density(0.220 g cm^(-3)),high surface area(298.4 m^(2)g^(-1)),and concentrated pore diameter distribution(~32.8nm).More importantly,CNT nanofibers provide an efficient electron transport pathway,imparting 3D-printed CNT/C aerogel composites with a high electrical conductivity of 1.49 S cm^(-1).Our work would offer feasible guidelines for the design and fabrication of shape-dominated functional materials by additive manufacturing.

Vesicular drug delivery systems for oral absorption enhancement

Oral administration is the most acceptable route of drug delivery at this stage due to its convenience,safety,and ***,drugs given orally are exposed to a complex gastrointestinal environment,causing a tremendous challenge for their successful absorption into the *** the past decades,researchers have developed various novel pharmaceutical technologies to improve oral absorption,among which the vesicular drug delivery system(like liposomes,niosomes and transfersomes)has received extensive ***,there have been several investigations confirming the improved effect of vesicular drug delivery systems on oral drug ***,the clinical translation of oral vesicular drug delivery systems has been less impressive than implied by the positive results,and few vesicular formulations for oral use have been marketed *** this background,this article provides an overview of the current applications and challenges associated with the vesicular delivery systems available for oral drug delivery,specifically liposomes,niosomes,transfersomes,chitosomes and *** composition,formation mechanism,drug delivery advantages and application cases of these carriers in oral drug delivery are *** possible mechanisms by which vesicular carriers enhance oral drug absorption are analyzed in terms of the in vivo process of oral ***,the challenges that oral vesicular carriers now face,such as safety,undefined in vivo fate,and scale-up production,are summarized,while possible strategies to deal with them are *** reviewing the aforementioned,it can facilitate a more comprehensive knowledge of vesicular systems that can be used for oral drug delivery,providing a theoretical basis and reference for the design of oral formulations.

Earthquake-induced slope failures are common occurrences in engineering practice and pre-stressed anchor cables are an effective technique in maintaining slope stability,especially in areas that are prone to ***,the soil at typical engineering sites also exhibit unsaturated *** considerations of these factors in slope stability estimations are crucial in producing accurate *** this study,the seismic responses of expansive soil slopes stabilized by anchor cables is studied in the realm of kinematic limit analysis.A modified horizontal slice method is proposed to semi-analytically formulate the energy balance *** illustrative slope is studied to demonstrate the influences of suction,seismic excitations and anchor cables on the slope *** results indicate that the stabilizing effect of soil suction relates strongly to the seismic excitation and presents a sine shape as the seismic wave *** higher and steeper slopes,the stabilizing effect of suction is more *** critical slip surface tends to be much more shallow as the seismic wave approaches the peak and vice versa.

Bunching enhancement for coherent harmonic generation by using phase merging effects

In this paper,promising but simple schemes are investigated to enhance the micro-bunching of relativistic electron beams for coherent harmonic generation(CHG)by using phase merging *** contrast to the standard CHG scheme,two specially designed dispersion sections(DSs)are adopted with the DS-modulator–DS *** phase space of the e beam is appropriately coupled in the first DS,and the electrons within one seed wavelength can merge to the same phase with a matched second ***-bunching of the e beam can thus be enhanced by a large margin with much higher-harmonic *** e beams from laser wakefield accelerators(LWFAs)as an example,start-to-end simulations are performed to show the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed schemes with several *** beam current can be optimized to several tens to hundreds of kiloamperes,and the radiation power reaches hundreds of megawatts in the extreme ultraviolet regime within a 3.5 m-long *** proposed schemes offer new opportunities for future compact free-electron lasers driven by LWFAs and provides prospects for truly compact and widely applicable systems.

Transient flameout process of boron-magnesium agglomerates during combustion in oxygen-rich atmospheres

In this study,boron–magnesium agglomerates with varying mass ratios were prepared by drying a micron-sized boron–magnesium mixed suspension,and the combustion process of these agglomerates under different oxygen-rich concentrations were investigated using a laser ignition *** test results showed that when the mass fraction of magnesium powder in boron-magnesium agglomerates exceeded a certain threshold(between 2%and 5%),flame extinction and reignition occurred after a significant reduction in the agglomerate volume during *** process is referred to as the transient flameout process,which is affected by the magnesium content of the agglomerate and the oxygen concentration in the ambient *** increase in the magnesium content or oxygen concentration makes this phenomenon more *** weakening of the flame intensity,a dark film gradually covered the particle surfaces.X-ray diffraction and elemental analyses of the cross-section and outer surface of the condensed combustion product suggested that the dark film is primarily composed of Mg-B-O ternary *** film prevents direct contact between boron and oxygen,thereby inhibiting surface and gas-phase reactions and leading to the occurrence of the transient flameout phenomenon.

Probabilistic back-analysis of rainfall-induced landslides for slope reliability prediction with multi-source information

Probabilistic back-analysis is an important means to infer the statistics of uncertain soil parameters,making the slope reliability assessment closer to the engineering ***,multi-source information(including test data,monitored data,field observation and slope survival records)is rarely used in current probabilistic *** the probabilistic back-analysis of spatially varying soil parameters and slope reliability prediction under rainfalls by integrating multi-source information is a challenging task since thousands of random variables and high-dimensional likelihood function are usually *** this paper,a framework by integrating a modified Bayesian Updating with Subset simulation(mBUS)method with adaptive Conditional Sampling(aCS)algorithm is established for the probabilistic back-analysis of spatially varying soil parameters and slope reliability *** this framework,the high-dimensional probabilistic back-analysis problem can be easily tackled,and the multi-source information(*** pressure heads and slope survival records)can be fully used in the back-analysis.A real Taoyuan landslide case in Taiwan,China is investigated to illustrate the effectiveness and performance of the established *** findings show that the posterior knowledge of soil parameters obtained from the established framework is in good agreement with the field ***,the updated knowledge of soil parameters can be utilized to reliably predict the occurrence probability of a landslide caused by the heavy rainfall event on September 12,2004 or forecast the potential landslides under future rainfalls in the Fuhsing District of Taoyuan City,Taiwan,China.

Improving millimeter-wave imaging quality using the vortex phase method

This paper investigates a new vortex wave imaging approach to improve the imaging quality of small metal targets of size less than 1.5 *** with different spiral phase plates are designed to efficiently transmit vortex beams with orbital angular momentums(OAMs).By analyzing the OAM spectrum of the target,it was discovered that the predominant reflection contains a particular OAM mode that carries abundant azimuthal *** can be explained by the OAM selectivity of the target and the guidance of the vortex transmitting beam.A simple reflection vortex imaging system was designed to capture the phase *** results show that the high image contrast reaches 14.9%,which is twice as high as that of the imaging without *** of simulations and experiments demonstrate that the vortex phase imaging approach proposed in this paper can effectively improve the imaging quality at 80 *** approach is suitable for other millimeter wave imaging systems and is helpful to improve the resolution in anti-terrorism security checks.

Preparation of Chemically Recyclable Poly(ether-alt-ester) by the Ring Opening Polymerization of Cyclic Monomers Synthesized by Coupling Glycolide and Epoxides

Polyester and polyether are two key oxygenated polymers, and completely alternative sequence of poly(ester-alt-ether) could efficiently combine the advantages(including flexibility, degradability, etc.) of both segments. Currently, despite their copolymers could be synthesized from one-pot mixture of cyclic esters and epoxides, perfectly alternative microstructure is very challenging to realize and typically restricted to certain monomer pairs. Moving forward, synthesizing poly(ester-alt-ether) from commercially available and largescale monomers would be a significant advance. For example, successfully commercialized poly(glycolic acid)(PGA), which is not easily soluble in polymers due to its high crystallinity and is brittle and difficult to control the degradation cycle, would encounter a new paradigm if engineered into poly(ester-altether). In this work, starting from the design of monomer with hybrid structures, we successfully synthesized a series of 1,4-dioxan-2-one containing different substituents based on glycolide(GA) and epoxides using commercially available Salen-Cr(III) and PPNCl catalytic *** new monomers underwent ring-opening polymerization(ROP) to form a series of poly(ester-alt-ether) with perfectly alternating glycolic acid and propylene glycol repeat units under catalytic system of thiourea/base. The poly(ester-alt-ether) have significantly lower glass-transition temperature than PGA. Additionally, the poly(ester-alt-ether) can be chemically recovered to monomer using Sn(Oct)2 or 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undecane-7-ene(DBU) as a catalyst in solution, thus establishing a closed-loop life cycle. From monomers derived from GA and epoxides, this work furnishes a novel strategy for the synthesis of poly(ester-alt-ether) with chemical recyclability.

Insight into the selective separation of CO_(2)from biomass pyrolysis gas over metal-incorporated nitrogen-doped carbon materials:a first-principles study

The composition of biomass pyrolysis gas is complex,and the selective separation of its components is crucial for its further ***-incorporated nitrogen-doped materials exhibit enormous potential,whereas the relevant adsorption mechanism is still ***,16 metal-incorporated nitrogen-doped carbon materials were designed based on the density functional theory calculation,and the adsorption mechanism of pyrolysis gas components H2,CO,CO_(2),CH_(4),and C2H6 was *** results indicate that metal-incorporated nitrogen-doped carbon materials generally have better adsorption effects on CO and CO_(2)than on H_(2),CH_(4),and C_(2)H_(6).Transition metal Mo-and alkaline earth metal Mg-and Ca-incorporated nitrogen-doped carbon materials show the potential to separate CO and CO_(2).The mixed adsorption results of CO_(2)and CO further indicate that when the CO_(2)ratio is significantly higher than that of CO,the saturated adsorption of CO_(2)will precede that of ***,the three metal-incorporated nitrogen-doped carbon materials can selectively separate CO_(2),and the alkaline earth metal Mg-incorporated nitrogen-doped carbon material has the best *** study provides theoretical guidance for the design of carbon capture materials and lays the foundation for the efficient utilization of biomass pyrolysis gas.

Analysis of the one-decoy-state SARG04 quantum cryptography protocol in the presence of afterpulse effects

The SARG04 quantum key distribution protocol can offer greater robustness against photon number splitting attacks than the BB84 protocol that is implemented with weak *** this paper,we propose a tight key analysis for the SARG04 protocol,by considering the one-decoy method and investigating its performance under the influence of a detector *** results demonstrate that an increase in block size leads to a slight increase in both the secure key rate and the maximum transmission ***,the detector afterpulse plays a crucial role in practical applications and has a more pronounced effect on the SARG04 protocol compared to the BB84 protocol.
