This paper considers the problem of robust consensus for a basic class of multi-agent systems with bounded disturbances and with directed information flow. A necessary and sufficient condition on the robust consensus is first presented, which is then applied to the analysis, control and decision making problems in the noise environments. In particular, the authors show how a soft control technique will synchronize a group of autonomous mobile agents without changing the existing local rule of interactions, and without assuming any kind of connectivity conditions on the system trajectories.

The Morris-Lecar (ML) neuronal model with current-feedback control is considered as a typical fast-slow dynamical system to study the combined influences of the reversal potential VCa of Ca2+ and the feedback current I on the generation and transition of different bursting oscillations. Two-parameter bifurcation analysis of the fast subsystem is performed in the parameter (I, VCa)-plane at first. Three important codimension-2 bifurcation points and some codimension-1 bifurcation curves are obtained which enable one to determine the parameter regions for different types of bursting. Next, we further divide the control parameter (V0, VCa)-plane into five different bursting regions, namely, the "fold/fold" bursting region R1, the "fold/Hopf" bursting region R2, the "fold/homoclinic" bursting region R3, the "subHopf/homoclinic" bursting region R4 and the "subHopf/subHopf" bursting region R5, as well as a silence region R6. Codimension-1 and -2 bifurcations are responsible for explanation of transition mechanisms between different types of bursting. The results are instructive for further understanding the dynamical behavior and mechanisms of complex firing activities and information processing in biological nervous systems.

Seeking exact analytical solutions of nonlinear evolution equations is of fundamental importance in mathematical physics. In this paper, based on a constructive algorithm and symbolic computation, abundant new exact solutions of the (2+1)-dimensional dispersive long wave equations are obtained, among which there are soliton-like solutions, mult-soliton-like solutions and formal periodic solutions, etc. Certain special solutions are considered and some interesting localized structures are revealed.

This paper reviews the development in the research of flow instability and its control over the recent ten or more years. This development was largely stimulated by the novel idea of active control of the aerodynamic instability in compressors. Three topics are covered in the paper, which appeared as the major themes towards the goal of stability enhancement. The first topic is the pre-stall behavior of rotating stall, which plays a vital role in designing the control scheme and discovering the convenient route to find the causal factors of flow disturbances potentially leading to stall. The second topic is the mechanism of blade passage flow during stall and its inception, which is the basic knowledge needed to manipulate the blade design for the stability improvement and eventually to predict the unsteady performance of the compressor system. The third topic is the recent trend of the control strategy based on the learning of active vs. passive methods. To introduce to the discussion of these topics, a brief description of the history of the recent development is given at the beginning of the paper. In discussing each topic, future works are also highlighted to enhance the further development of this long-standing problem in turbomachinery research and application.

In this paper, we establish some range inclusion theorems for non-archimedean Banach spaces over general valued fields. These theorems provide close relationship among range inclusion, majorization and factorization for bounded linear operators. It is found that these results depend strongly on a continuous extension property, which is always true in the classical archimedean case, but may fail to hold for the non-archimedean setting. Several counterexamples are given to show that our results are sharp in some sense.

Delimitations of species are crucial for correct and precise identification of *** "spe-cies" is more a subjective than an objective concept in taxonomic practice due to difficulties in revealing patterns of infra-or inter-specific *** phylogenetic studies at the population level solve this problem and lay a sound foundation for DNA *** this paper we exemplify the necessity of adopting a phylogenetic concept of species in DNA barcoding for tree peonies(Paeonia ***).We used 40 samples representing all known populations of rare and endangered species and several populations of widely distributed tree *** currently recognized species and major variants have been included in this *** chloroplast gene fragments,***,rps16-trnQ,trnL-F and trnS-G(a total of 5040 characters,96 variable and 69 parsimony-informative characters) and one variable and single-copy nuclear GPAT gene fragment(2093?2197 bp,279 variable and 148 parsi-mony-informative characters) were used to construct phylogenetic relationships among the *** evolutionary lineages revealed by the nuclear gene and the chloroplast genes are inconsistent with the current circumscriptions of ***,***,***,and *** based on *** inconsistencies come from(1) significant chloroplast gene divergence but little nuclear GPAT gene divergence among population systems of *** + ***,and(2) well-diverged nuclear GPAT gene but little chloroplast gene divergence between *** and *** incongruence of the phylogenies based on the chloroplast genes and the nuclear GPAT gene is probably due to the chloro-plast capture event in evolutionary history,as no reproductive barriers exist to prevent inter-specific *** also evaluated the suitability of these genes for use as DNA barcodes for tree *** variability of chloroplast genes among well-defined species or population systems of a specie

In this paper the author shows some artificial living systems, whose basic life characteristics are explored, especially the differentiation in evolution from single cellular to multi-cellular organism. In addition, the author discusses diversity and evolvability also. The author gives a modified entropy function to measure the diversity. Finally, the author drops an open problem about the structure of "gene" of artificial living systems, so that we can measure the evolutionary order between the artificial living systems.
