Groundwater solute chemistry,hydrogeochemical processes and fluoride contamination in phreatic aquifer of Odisha,India

The work investigates the major solute chemistry of groundwater and fluoride enrichment(F^(-))in the shallow phreatic aquifer of *** study also interprets the hydrogeochemical processes of solute acquisition and the genetic behavior of groundwater F^(-)contamination.A total of 1105 groundwater samples collected from across the state from different hydro-geomorphic settings have been analyzed for the major solutes and F^(-) *** is alkaline in nature(range of pH:6.6-8.7;ave.:7.9)predominated by moderately hard to very hard *** cation and anion chemistry stand in the orders of Ca^(2+)>Na^(+)>Mg^(2+)>K^(+) and HCO_(3)^(-)>Cl^(-)>SO_(4)^(2-)>CO_(3)^(2-) *** average mineralization is low(319 mg/L).The primary water types are Ca-Mg-HCO_(3) and Ca-Mg-Cl^(-)HCO_(3),followed by Na-Cl,Ca-Mg-Cl,and Na-Ca-Mg-HCO_(3)^(-)***-halite dissolution and reverse ion exchange are the significant processes of solute *** the geogenic as well as the anthropogenic sources contribute to the groundwater fluoride contamination,*** ratio of Na^(+)/Ca^(2+)>1.0 comprises Na-HCO_(3)(Cl)water types with F^(-)>1.0 mg/L(range 1.0-3.5 mg/L)where the F^(-)bears geogenic *** relations exist between F^(-)and pH,Na^(+),TDS,and HCO_(3)^(-).It also reflects a perfect Na-TDS correlation(0.85).The ratio of Na^(+)/Ca^(2+)<1.0 segregates the sample population(F^(-)range:1.0-4.0 mg/L)with the F derived from anthropogenic *** water types include Ca-Mg-HCO_(3)(Cl)varieties which are recently recharged meteoritic water *** F^(-) levels exhibit poor and negative correlations with the solutes in *** Na-TDS relation remains poor(0.12).In contrast,the TDS levels show strong correlations with Ca^(2+)(0.91),Mg^(2+)(0.80)and even Cl^(-)(0.91).The majority of the monitoring points with the anthropogenic sources of groundwater F^(-) are clustered in the Hirakud Canal Command area in the western parts of the state,indi

Grasshopper optimization algorithm optimized multistage controller for automatic generation control of a power system with FACTS devices

This paper uses a Grasshopper Optimization Algorithm (GOA) optimized PDF plus (1 + PI) controller for Automatic generation control (AGC) of a power system with Flexible AC Transmission system (FACTS) devices. Three differently rated reheat turbine operated thermal units with appropriate generation rate constraint (GRC) are considered along with different FACTS devices. A new multistage controller design structure of a PDF plus (1 + PI) is introduced in the FACTS empowered power system for AGC while the controller gains are tuned by the GOA. The superiority of the proposed algorithm over the Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithms is demonstrated. The dynamic responses of GOA optimized PDF plus (1 + PI) are compared with PIDF, PID and PI controllers on the same system. It is demonstrated that GOA optimized PDF plus (1 + PI) controller provides optimum responses in terms of settling time and peak deviations compared to other controllers. In addition, a GOA-tuned PDF plus (1 + PI) controller with Interline Power Flow Controller (IPFC) exhibits optimal results compared to other FACTS devices. The sturdiness of the projected controller is validated using sensitivity analysis with numerous load patterns and a wide variation of parameterization. To further validate the real-time feasibility of the proposed method, experiments using OPAL-RT OP5700 RCP/HIL and FPGA based real-time simulations are carried out.

Potential of the neonicotinoid imidacloprid and the oxadiazine indoxacarb for controlling five coleopteran pests of stored grain

The potential for using imidacloprid （a neonicotinoid） and indoxacarb （an oxadiazine） as grain protectants was investigated in bioassays against resistant strains of five stored grain beetles. The species investigated were Rhyzopertha dominica （E）（the lesser grain borer）, Sitophilus oryzae （L.）（the rice weevil）, Tribolium castaneum （Herbst）（the rust-red flour beetle）, Oryzaephilus surinamensis （L.）（the saw tooth flour beetle）, and Cryptolestesferrugineus （Stephens）（the fiat grain beetle）. Each of these species has developed resistance to one or more protectants, including organophosphorus insecticides, synthetic pyrethroids and the juvenile hormone analogue methoprene. Mortality and re- production after a 2-week exposure of adults to treated wheat depended on species, dose and insecticide. Imidacloprid had no effect on S. oryzae at any dose, but none of the other species produced any live progeny at 10 mg/kg. Indoxacarb had no effect on T. castaneum at any dose, but none of the other species produced any live progeny at 5 mg/kg. The results show that although both imidacloprid and indoxacarb can control at least four of the five key pests tested at doses comparable to those used for organophosphorus protectants, more potent neonicotinoid or oxadiazine insecticides would be needed than either of these to provide broad spectrum protection of stored grain .

Serum Lp(a) levels in patients with liver disease

Objective:The study was conducted to evaluate the effect of liver diseases on serum Lp(a) levels and also to study the relationship between Lp(a) levels with other lipid parameters and liver function tests in 32 hyperbilirubinemia patients with total bilirubin>3mg/*** results were compared with 20 healthy age matched individuals. Methods:Serum obtained from venous blood sample are used for estimating total cholesterol(TC), triglyceride(TG),high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-c),low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-c ), very low density lipoprotein cholesterol(VLDL-c),total protein(TP),albumin(ALB),total bilirubin,direct bilirubin,aspartate amino tranferase(AST),alanine amino transferase(ALT),alkaline phosphatase(ALP), gamma glutamyl transferase(GGT),lipoprotein(a)[Lp(a)],serum ***:There was significant decrease in serum Lp(a) levels in liver disease patients and the decrease was direcdy correlated with reduced serum albumin levels and inversely with liver function ***:Thus the present study indicates hepatic synthetic damage has possible biochemical basis for the reduction of serum Lp(a)

Soret and Dufour effects on mixed convection unsteady MHD boundary layer flow over stretching sheet in porous medium with chemically reactive species

This paper studies the thermal-diffusion and diffusion thermo-effects in the hydro-magnetic unsteady flow by a mixed convection boundary layer past an imperme- able vertical stretching sheet in a porous medium in the presence of chemical reaction. The velocity of t^he stretching surface, the surface temperature, and the concentration are assumed to vary linearly with the distance along the surface. The governing partial differential equations are transformed into self-similar unsteady equations using similarity transformations .and solved numerically by the Runge-Kutta fourth order scheme in as- sociation with the shooting method for the whole transient domain from the initial state to the final steady state flow. Numerical results for the velocity, the temperature, the concentration, the skin friction, and the Nusselt and Sherwood numbers are shown graph- ically for various flow parameters. The results reveal that there is a smooth transition of flow from unsteady state to the final steady state. A special case of our results is in good agreement with an earlier published work.

Inflammation of a part or whole of the temporal bone and surrounding soft tissue is termed as malignant otitis externa,which typically spreads to skull base to involve cranial nerves *** can it also effect one or more of cranial nerves IX,X,XI,and *** present a case of malignant otitis externa which presented with symptomatic palsy of IX and XII nerves sparing the VII cranial *** patient though later on had internal jugular vein thrombosis,which we presume is due to the involvement of the parapharyngeal space that prompted us to reconsider the diagnosis,and later on,to aggravate the *** proper blood sugar control and appropriate long term antibiotics,not only that the patient is disease free at one year follow up,but the cranial nerve deficits also *** from sharing the clinical and management details of this patient,we have reviewed the relevant literature in the discussion,which has shed some light onto some of the interesting facts about this condition and its prognosis.

Shear Strength and Morphological Study of Polyurethane- OMMT Clay Nanocomposite Adhesive Derived from Vegetable Oil-Based Constituents

In the current work,we have synthesized vegetable oil-based polyurethane-OMMT clay nanocomposite(PUNC)adhesive with the incorporation of different wt%of organically modified nanoclay(1 to 5 wt%)into the biobased polyurethane(PU)matrix through in-situ polymerization process via ultrasonication *** the initial stage,PU adhesive was prepared using polyol and partially biobased aliphatic isocyanate,wherein polyol was derived from the transesterified castor oil using ethylene *** formation of PU and PUNC adhesive was confirmed using Fourier transform infrared(FTIR)spectroscopy *** tensile strength of PU with different wt%of nanoclay was determined and the analysis showed that the loading of 3 wt%of nanoclay within the PU matrix showed better performance as compared to the ***,shear strength of PU and PUNC(3 wt%nanoclay)adhesives were determined using lap shear test,in which PUNC adhesive showed higher adhesive strength at 70°***,the dispersibility of OMMT nanoclay within the PU matrix along with exfoliation and amorphous structure was confirmed through wide angle X-ray diffractometer(WAXD)and transmission electron microscopy(TEM)*** phase separation structure was analyzed using dynamic mechanical analysis(DMA).The analysis revealed that with the addition of organically modified nanoclay in the PU matrix,the glass transition temperature(Tg)of the damping curve was shifted towards higher temperature.

Application of quasi-oppositional symbiotic organisms search based extreme learning machine for stock market prediction

Purpose–Forecasting of stock indices is a challenging issue because stock data are dynamic,non-linear and uncertain in *** of an accurate forecasting model is very much essential to predict the next-day closing prices of the stock *** purpose of this paper is to develop an efficient and accurate forecasting model to predict the next-day closing prices of seven stock ***/methodology/approach–A novel strategy called quasi-oppositional symbiotic organisms search-based extreme learning machine(QSOS-ELM)is proposed to forecast the next-day closing prices *** in the prediction of closing price depends on output weights which are dependent on input weights and *** paper mainly deals with the optimal design of input weights and biases of the ELM prediction model using QSOS and SOS optimization ***–Simulation is carried out on seven stock indices,and performance analysis of QSOS-ELM and SOS-ELM prediction models is done by taking various statistical measures such as mean square error,mean absolute percentage error,accuracy and paired sample *** performance analysis reveals that the QSOS-ELM model outperforms the SOS-ELM model in predicting the next-day closing prices more accurately for all the seven stock indices under ***/value–The QSOS-ELM prediction model and SOS-ELM are developed for the first time to predict the next-day closing prices of various stock *** paired t-test is also carried out for the first time in literature to hypothetically prove that there is a zero mean difference between the predicted and actual closing prices.

Molsidomine ameliorates diabetic peripheral neuropathy complications in Wistar rats

Diabetic neuropathy is a disorder which affects various regions of the nervous sys-tem and there is no specific treatment available for ***,the present study eval-uated protective effect of molsidomine in diabetic neuropathy in *** was induced in male Wistar rats by administrating streptozotocin(52 mg/kg i.p).Diabetic rats were administered with molsidomine 5 mg/kg p.o,and 10mg/kg *** *** 8 weeks of treatment,Motor coordination,Mechanical allodynia,Mechanical hyperalgesia,Nerve conduction velocity,Glycosylated hemoglobin were *** animals were sacrificed and sciatic nerve was *** was used for reduced glutathione,lipid peroxidation and for *** with molsidomine significantly improved motor coordination,paw withdrawal threshold,mechanical threshold and nerve conduction ***,mol-sidomine treatment also reduced malondialdehyde levels and prevented depletion of reduced glutathione in sciatic nerve *** shows molsid-omine treatment maintained normal architecture of sciatic *** results of our study strengthens the alterative use of molsidomine in diabetic neuropathy.
