Decadal and Interannual Variability of Persistent Heavy Rainfall Events over the Middle and Lower Reaches of the Yangtze River Valley

This study investigates the relationship between the anomalous atmospheric circulation pattern and summertime persistent heavy rainfall(PHR)over the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River valley(MLYRV)on the decadal and interannual *** on the gridded daily rainfall data of the US Climate Prediction Center,the PHR events on grid-point and the regional PHR events considering both the area of PHR and regionally averaged rainfall intensity are identified over the MLYRV during the summers of 1979–2017.A PHR index(PHRI)is defined,to describe the variability of summertime PHR event number over the *** PHRI is then divided into the decadal and interannual *** analysis reveals that the decadal PHR events are closely related to anomalous precipitation,intensified vertical motion,and strengthened upper-level divergence over southern China,as well as an anomalous anticyclone over the western Pacific transporting more water vapor from the South China Sea(SCS)to southern *** for the interannual component,the above pattern still co-exists but over a narrow region around the *** choosing the years in which the decadal and interannual components of the PHRI are simultaneously positive(SP)or negative(SN),the features of regional PHR events in SP and SN years are analyzed,*** results show that there are more regional PHR events in SP years with enhanced intensity and larger affected areas compared with those in SN ***,the zonal oscillations of the South Asian high(SAH)and the western Pacific subtropical high(WPSH)during the regional PHR events demonstrate a better regularity in SP years than those in SN years.

Dendritic and eutectic growth in Sb_(60)Ag_(20)Cu_(20) ternary alloy

The rapid solidification of Sb60Ag20Cu20 ternary alloy was realized by high under- cooling method, and the maximum undercooling is up to 142 K (0.18TL). Within the wide undercooling range of 40-142 K, the solidified microstructures are composed of (Sb), θ and ε phases. High undercooling enlarges the solute solubility of (Sb) phase, which causes its crystal lattice to expand and its crystal lattice constants to increase. Primary (Sb) phase grows in two modes: at small undercoolings non-faceted dendrite growth is the main growth form; whereas at large undercool- ings faceted dendrite growth takes the dominant place. The remarkable difference of crystal structures between (Sb) and θ phases leads to (θ + Sb) pseudobinary eutectic hard to form, whereas strips of θ form when the alloy melt reaches the (θ + Sb) pseudobinary eutectic line. The cooperative growth of θ and ε phases contrib- utes to the formation of (ε + θ ) pseudobinary eutectic easily. In addition, the crys- tallization route has been determined via microstructural characteristic analysis and DSC experiment.

Highly oxidized sesquiterpenoids from Parasenecio rubescens and assessment of their cytotoxicity

A phytochemical investigation of the whole plant of Parasenecio rubescens(***)*** yielded 14 previ-ously undescribed,highly oxidized bisabolane-type sesquiterpenoids,named pararunines L-Y,along with one known oplopane-type *** structural elucidation of these compounds was accomplished through comprehensive spectroscopic analysis,in-cluding nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR)and high-resolution electrospray ionization mass spectrometry(HR-ESI-MS)*** by traditional uses and previous studies on this genus,all isolated compounds were subjected to in vitro cytotoxicity assays against four human cancer cell lines(MCF-7,Hela,HCT116,and HT-29).Considering that the reported chemical constituents of nu-merous other species within this genus primarily consist of eremophilane-type sesquiterpenoids,our findings not only expand the struc-tural diversity of bisabolane-type sesquiterpenoids but also contribute valuable scientific evidence to the chemotaxonomy of this genus.

A modified Kozeny-Carman equation for predicting saturated hydraulic conductivity of compacted bentonite in confined condition

Kozeny-Carman(KC) equation is a well-known relation between hydraulic conductivity and pore properties in porous material. The applications of KC equation to predicting saturated hydraulic conductivities of sands and non-expansive soils are well documented. However, KC equation is incapable of predicting saturated hydraulic conductivity of expansive soil(e.g. bentonite) well. Based on a new dualpore system, this study modified KC equation for improving the prediction of saturated hydraulic conductivities of bentonites. In this study, an assumption that inter-layer space(micropore) has limited effect on fluid flow performance of compacted bentonite was adopted. The critical parameters including total porosity and total tortuosity in conventional KC equation were replaced by macroporosity and tortuosity of macropore, respectively. Macroporosity and microporosity were calculated by basal spacing of compacted bentonite, which was estimated by assuming that specific surface area is changeable during saturation process. A comprehensive comparison of bentonite’s saturated hydraulic conductivity predictions, including modified KC equation proposed in this study, conventional KC equation, and prediction method based on diffuse double layer(DDL) theory, was carried out. It was found that the predicted saturated hydraulic conductivity of bentonites calculated using modified KC equation fitted the experimental data better than others to a certain extent.

A novel natural circulation evaporative cooling system for super-high power intensity ECR ion sources

Cooling is very important for the safe operation of an electron cyclotron resonance ion source(ECRIS),especially when the window current density is very high(up to 11 A/mm2).We proposed an innovative cooling method using evaporative cooling technology.A demonstration prototype was designed,built and *** on-site test results showed that the temperature of the solenoids and permanent magnets maintains well in the normal operational range of 14–18 GHz.A simple computational model was developed to predict the characteristics of the two-phase *** predicted temperatures agreed well with the on-site test data within 2 *** also proposed useful design *** successful operation of the system indicates the potential for broad application of evaporative cooling technology in situations in which the power intensity is very high.

Sinc interpolation based method for compensation of ionospheric dispersion effects on BOC signals with high subcarrier rate

Binary Offset Carrier(BOC) signals with high subcarrier rate such as Alt BOC(15,10) and cosBOC(15,2.5) have been adopted for the next generation of Global Navigation Satellite System(GNSS) to make full use of the allocated spectrum. However, the two main lobes of the BOC signals are tremendously separated in the frequency spectrum and the group delay of the two lobes are greatly dispersed due to ionospheric dispersion. The signals will suffer extremely severe distortion caused by the group delay dispersion including waveform ripples, power losses and correlation function asymmetries. In this paper, a novel time domain sinc interpolation based ionospheric dispersion compensation method is proposed to eliminate the distortion to the BOC ***, the time domain model of BOC signal under the dispersive ionosphere is developed. Afterwards, based on the model, the two signal main lobes are aligned by sinc interpolation so that the ionospheric dispersion effects are almost mitigated. Taking Galileo E5 Alt BOC(15,10) signal as an example, the performance of the proposed method is evaluated by simulation and test. The results show that the proposed method is able to more effectively compensate the ionospheric dispersion with fewer computational loads versus existing methods.

Configuration model of partial repairable spares under batch ordering policy based on inventory state

Rational planning of spares configuration project is an effective approach to improve equipment availability as well as reduce life cycle cost （LCC）. With an analysis of various impacts on support system, the spares demand rate forecast model is constructed. According to systemic analysis method, spares support effectiveness evaluation indicators system is built, and then, initial spares configuration and optimization method is researched. To the issue of discarding and con-sumption for incomplete repairable items, its expected backorders function is approximated by Laplace demand distribution. Combining the （s-1, s） and （R, Q） inventory policy, the spares resup-ply model is established under the batch ordering policy based on inventory state, and the optimi-zation analysis flow for spares configuration is proposed. Through application on shipborne equipment spares configuration, the given scenarios are analyzed under two constraint targets：one is the support effectiveness, and the other is the spares cost. Analysis reveals that the result is consistent with practical regulation;therefore, the model＇s correctness, method＇s validity as well as optimization project＇s rationality are proved to a certain extent.

Flocculating characteristic of activated sludge flocs:Interaction between Al^(3+) and extracellular polymeric substances

Aluminum flocculant can enhance the flocculating performance of activated ***,the binding mechanism of aluminum ion（Al 3＋） and extracellular polymeric substances（EPS） in activated sludge is unclear due to the complexity of *** this work,threedimensional excitation emission matrix fluorescence spectroscopy（3DEEM）,fluorescence quenching titration and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy（FT-IR） were used to explore the binding behavior and mechanism between Al 3＋ and *** results showed that two fluorescence peaks of tyrosineand tryptophan-like substances were identified in the loosely bound-extracellular polymeric substances（LB-EPS）,and three peaks of tyrosine-,tryptophanand humic-like substances were identified in the tightly boundextracellular polymeric substances（TB-EPS）.It was found that these fluorescence peaks could be quenched with Al 3＋ at the dosage of 3.0 mg/L,which demonstrated that strong interactions took place between the EPS and Al 3＋.The conditional stability constants for Al 3＋ and EPS were determined by the Stern-Volmer *** to the binding mechanism,the-OH,N-H,C=O,C-N groups and the sulfurand phosphorus-containing groups showed complexation action,although the groups in the LB-EPS and TB-EPS showed different *** TB-EPS have stronger binding ability to Al 3＋ than the LB-EPS,and TB-EPS play an important role in the interaction with Al 3＋.
