Objective: The effects of arsenic trioxide(As2O3) on hepatocellular carcinoma have been documented widely. Autophagy plays dual roles in the survival and death of cancer cells. Therefore, we investigated the exact role of autophagy in As2O3-induced apoptosis in liver cancer ***: The viability of hepatoma cells was determined using the MTT assay with or without fetal bovine serum. The rate of apoptosis in liver cancer cells treated with As2O3was evaluated using flow cytometry, Hoechst 33258 staining, and TUNEL assays. The rate of autophagy among liver cancer cells treated with As2O3was detected using immunofluorescence, Western blot assay and transmission electron ***: Upon treatment with As2O3, the viability of HepG2 and SMMC-7721 cells was decreased in a time-and dose-dependent manner. The apoptosis rates of both liver cancer cell lines increased with the concentration of As2O3, as shown by flow cytometry. Apoptosis in liver cancer cells treated with As2O3was also shown by the activation of the caspase cascade and the regulation of Bcl-2/Bax ***, As2O3treatment induced autophagy in liver cancer cells;this finding was supported by Western blot, immunofluorescence of LC3-II and beclin 1, and transmission electron microscopy. In liver cancer cells, As2O3inhibited the phosphoinositide 3-kinase/protein kinase B/mammalian target of rapamycin(PI3K/AKT/mTOR) signal pathway that plays a vital role in both apoptosis and autophagy. The PI3K activator SC-79 partially reversed As2O3-induced autophagy and apoptosis. Furthermore, inhibiting autophagy with 3-methyladenine partially reversed the negative effects of As2O3on cell *** starvation increased autophagy and amplified the effect of As2O3on cell ***: As2O3induces apoptosis and autophagy in liver cancer cells. Autophagy induced by As2O3may have a proapoptotic effect that helps to reduce the viability of liver cancer cells. This study provides novel insights

Auxetic metamaterials,which exhibit the negative Poisson’s ratio(NPR)effect,have found wide applications in many engineering ***,their high porosity inevitably weakens their bearing capacity and impact *** improve the energy absorption efficiency of auxetic honeycombs,a novel vertex-based hierarchical star-shaped honeycomb(VSH)is designed by replacing each vertex in the classical star-shaped honeycomb(SSH)with a newly added self-similar *** analytical model is built to investigate the Young’s modulus of VSH,which shows good agreement with experimental results and numerical *** in-plane dynamic crushing behaviors of VSH at three different crushing velocities are investigated,and empirical formulas for the densification strain and plateau stress are *** results reveal more stable deformation modes for VSH,attributed to the addition of self-similar star-shaped ***,compared with SSH under the same relative densities,VSH exhibits better specific energy absorption and higher plateau ***,VSH is verified to be a better candidate for energy absorption while maintaining the auxetic *** study is expected to provide a new design strategy for auxetic honeycombs.

The fluid-structure interaction(FSI)in aircraft hydraulic pipeline systems is of great concern because of the damage it *** accurately predict the vibration characteristic of long hydraulic pipelines with curved segments,we studied the frequency-domain modeling and solution method for FSI in these pipeline *** partial differential equations(PDEs)are utilized to model the pipeline FSI,considering both frequency-dependent friction and bending-flexibility *** address the numerical instability encountered by the traditional transfer matrix method(TMM)in solving relatively complex pipelines,an improved TMM is proposed for solving the PDEs in the frequency domain,based on the matrix-stacking strategy and matrix representation of boundary *** proposed FSI model and improved solution method are validated by numerical cases and *** experimental rig of a practical hydraulic system,consisting of an aircraft engine-driven pump,a Z-shaped aero-hydraulic pipeline,and a throttle valve,was constructed for *** magnitude ratio of acceleration to pressure is introduced to evaluate the theoretical and experimental results,which indicate that the proposed model and solution method are effective in practical *** methodology presented in this paper can be used as an efficient approach for the vibrational design of aircraft hydraulic pipeline systems.

Dear Editor,This letter deals with the robustness problem of gait recognition method against maximum number of clothing *** selecting four kinds of time-varying silhouette features,gait dynamics underlying different individuals’gait features is effectively modeled by radial basis function(RBF)neural networks through deterministic *** kind of dynamics information has little sensitivity to the variance between gait patterns under different clothing *** order to eliminate the effect of clothing differences,the training patterns under different clothing conditions further constitute a uniform training dataset,containing all kinds of gait dynamics under different clothing conditions.A rapid recognition scheme is presented on published gait *** experiments demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed method.

We extend our research on the energy flux and waveform characteristics of gravitational waves generated by merging nonspinning binary black holes through self-consistent effective one-body theory to include binary systems with slowly spinning black ***,we decompose the equation for the null tetrad component of the gravitationally perturbed Weyl tensorψ_4~B into radial and angular parts,leveraging the second-order approximation of the rotation parameter ***,we derive an analytical solution for the radial equation and observe that our results are contingent upon the parameters a_(2),a_(3),and a,which represent the second-and third-order correction parameters,***,we calculate the energy flux,the radiation-reaction force and the waveform for the“plus”and“cross”modes of the gravitational waves generated by merging slowly spinning binary black holes.

Benzene series as highly toxic gases have inevitably entered human life and produce great threat to human health and ecological environment,and thus it is distinctly meaningful to monitor benzene series with quickly,real-time and efficient ***,novel sulfur-doped mesoporous WO_(3)materials were synthesized via classical in-situ solvent evaporation induced co-assembly strategy combined with doping engineering,which possessed highly crystallized frameworks,high specific surface area(40.9–63.8 m^(2)/g)and uniform pore size(~18 nm).Benefitting from abundant oxygen vacancy and defects via S-doping,the tailored mesoporous S/m WO_(3)exhibited excellent benzene sensing performance,including high sensitivity(50 ppm vs.48),low detection limit(ca.500 ppb),outstanding selectivity and favorable *** addition,the reduction of band gap resulted from S-doping promotes the carrier migration in the sensing materials and the reaction at the gas–solid sensing *** provides brand-new approach to design sensitive materials with multiple reaction sites.
