Inter-stage performance and energy characteristics analysis of electric submersible pump based on entropy production theory

The electric submersible pump(EsP) is a crucial apparatus utilized for lifting in the oil extraction *** lifting capacity is enhanced by the multi-stage tandem structure, but variations in energy characteristics and internal flow across stages are also introduced. In this study, the inter-stage variability of energy characteristics in EsP hydraulic systems is investigated through entropy production(EP) analysis,which incorporates numerical simulations and experimental validation. The EP theory facilitates the quantification of energy loss in each computational subdomain at all EsP stages, establishing a correlation between microscopic flow structure and energy dissipation within the system. Furthermore, the underlying causes of inter-stage variability in EsP hydraulic systems are examined, and the advantages and disadvantages of applying the EP theory in this context are evaluated. Consistent energy characteristics within the EsP, aligned with the distribution of internal flow structure, are provided by the EP theory, as demonstrated by our results. The EP theory also enables the quantitative analysis of internal flow losses and complements existing performance analysis methods to map the internal flow structure to hydraulic losses. Nonetheless, an inconsistency between the energy characterization based on EP theory and the traditional efficiency index when reflecting inter-stage differences is identified. This inconsistency arises from the exclusive focus of the EP theory on flow losses within the flow field, disregarding the quantification of external energy input to the flow field. This study provides a reference for the optimization of EP theory in rotating machinery while deeply investigating the energy dissipation characteristics of multistage hydraulic system, which has certain theoretical and practical significance.

Tetrahedrite,an Earth-abundant natural mineral,has attracted extensive research interest because of its excellent thermoelectric ***,tetrahedrite samples comprising Cu-poor Cu_(12)sb_(4)s_(13)and Cu-rich Cu_(14)sb_(4)s_(13)phases have been synthesized using a colloidal method,in which the ratio of two phases is manipulated by controlling the synthesis temperature to improve the thermoelectric *** is found that an ultralow total thermal conductivity of∼0.3 W m^(−1)K^(−1)at 723 K is realized in the sample with a Cu-rich phase fraction of∼50%,which can be attributed to maximized phonon scattering by phase *** a result,combined with a decent power factor,this sample obtains an optimal zT of 1.15,which is about 85%higher than that of the sample with a Cu-rich phase fraction of∼64%and comparable to zT values of other eco-friendly,abundant Cu-based thermoelectric *** work demonstrates an effective synthesis-temperature-dependent phase composition manipulation strategy toward enhanced thermoelectric performance in tetrahedrites.

Transition metal-nitrogen-carbon(M-N-C)as a promising substitute for the conventional noble metalbased catalyst still suffers from low activity and durability for oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)in proton exchange membrane fuel cells(PEMFCs).To tackle the issue,herein,a new type of sulfur-doped ironnitrogen-hard carbon(s-Fe-N-HC)nanosheets with high activity and durability in acid media were developed by using a newly synthesized precursor of amide-based polymer with Fe ions based on copolymerizing two monomers of 2,5-thiophene dicarboxylic acid(TDA)as s source and 1,8-diaminonaphthalene(DAN)as N source via an amination *** as-synthesized s-Fe-N-HC features highly dispersed atomic Fe Nxmoieties embedded into rich thiophene-s doped hard carbon nanosheets filled with highly twisted graphite-like microcrystals,which is distinguished from the majority of M-N-C with soft or graphitic carbon *** unique characteristics endow s-Fe-N-HC with high ORR activity and outstanding durability in 0.5 M H_(2)sO_(4).Its initial half-wave potential is 0.80 V and the corresponding loss is only 21 m V after 30,000 ***,its practical PEMFC performance is a maximum power output of 628.0 mW cm^(-2)and a slight power density loss is 83.0 m W cm^(-2)after 200-cycle practical ***,theoretical calculation shows that the activity of Fe Nxmoieties on ORR can be further enhanced by sulfur doping at meta-site near FeN_(4)*** results evidently demonstrate that the dual effect of hard carbon substrate and s doping derived from the precursor platform of amid-polymers can effectively enhance the activity and durability of Fe-N-C catalysts,providing a new guidance for developing advanced M-N-C catalysts for ORR.

A novel nano-Ws_(2)/graphene nanosheets(GNss)composite is obtained by ball milling with xylitol as auxiliary agent and hightemperature *** improves the shear force during ball milling and well overcomes the van der Waals interactions between the interlayer of graphite and Ws_(2).Through high-temperature calcination,GNss and Ws_(2) nanosheets can form tight interface *** produced Ws_(2)/GNss composites can be used as anode materials for lithium-ion batteries,while maintaining a high reversible specific capacity of 705 mAh·g^(-1)with the capacity retention of 95%at a current density of 250 mA·g^(-1)after 200 cycles,mainly because Ws_(2)/GNss composites have a higher Li^(+)diffusion coefficient of 2.2×10^(-9)cm^(2)·s^(-1)and a higher specific surface area of 70.10 m^(2)·g^(-1).As a result,the xylitol-assisted ball milling method designed in this work is suitable for extended preparation of peeling of two-dimensional layer materials into nanosheets.

Tracing nitrate sources in one of the world's largest eutrophicated bays(Hangzhou Bay):insights from nitrogen and oxygen isotopes

Eutrophication caused by inputs of excess nitrogen(N) has become a serious environmental problem in Hangzhou Bay(China),but the sources of this nitrogen are not well *** this study,the August 2019 distributions of salinity,nutrients [nitrate(NO_(3)^(-)),nitrite,ammonium,and phosphate],and the stable isotopic composition of NO_(3)^(-)(δ^(15)N and δ^(18)O) were used to investigate sources of dissolved inorganic nitrogen(DIN) to Hangzhou B *** distributions of nitrate,salinity,and nitrate δ^(18)O indicate that the Qiantang River,the Changjiang River,and nearshore coastal waters may all contribute nitrate to the *** on the isotopic compositions of nitrate in these potential source waters and conservative mixing of nitrate in our study area,we suggest that the NO_(3)^(- )in Hangzhou B ay was likely derived mainly from soils,synthetic N fertilizer,and manure and ***-member modeling indicates that in the upper half of the bay,the Qiantang River was a very important DIN source,possibly contributing more than 50% of DIN in the bay head *** the lower half of the bay,DIN was sourced mainly from strongly intruding coastal *** coming directly from the Changjiang River made a relatively small contribution to Hangzhou Bay DIN in August 2019.

This study introduces an innovative dual-tunable absorption film with the capability to switch between ultra-wideband and narrowband *** manipulating the temperature,the film can achieve multi-band absorption within the 30-45 THz range or ultra-wideband absorption spanning 30-130 THz,with an absorption rate exceeding ***,the structural parameters of the absorption film are optimized using the particle swarm optimization(PsO)algorithm to ensure the optimal absorption *** absorption response of the film is primarily attributed to the coupling of guided-mode resonance and local surface plasmon resonance *** film's symmetric structure enables polarization incoherence and allows for tuning through various means such as doping/voltage,temperature and structural *** the case of a multi-band absorption response,the film exhibits good sensitivity to refractive index changes in multiple absorption ***,the absorption spectrum of the film remains effective even at large incidence angles,making it highly promising for applications in fields such as biosensing and infrared stealth.
