The effect of downstream resistance on flow diverter treatment of a cerebral aneurysm at a bifurcation: A joint computational-experimental study

Intracranial aneurysm can lead to hemorrhagic stroke upon rupture. Deployment of flow diverters can restrict the blood flow into aneurysm and mitigate the rupture risk. Computational fluid dynamics（CFD） and ultrasonography with pulse-wave and color Doppler ultrasound measurements were employed jointly to investigate the complex flow pattern in cerebral aneurysms, both before and after the deployment of flow diverters. Patient-specific configurations of both bifurcation and side-wall aneurysms were selected. The effect of downstream flow resistance was investigated by adjusting the volume flow rate and pressure at the outlet vessels computationally and experimentally. Velocity profiles in the aneurysm measured from ultrasonography showed good agreement with those from computer simulations. The discrepancy in velocity between the computational and experimental sets of data is less than 10%. The downstream resistance can alter the volume flux into a bifurcation aneurysm with a flow diverter deployed by 236%, while the corresponding value of a side-wall aneurysm is negligible. The vorticity of the aneurysmal flow was reduced by more than 80% in both cases after stenting. This study demonstrated that careful investigation of downstream flow resistance of a bifurcation aneurysm is essential to provide an accurate assessment of the aneurysmal flow dynamics after flow diverter deployment.

Background:This systematic review aimed to examine whether dual-task(DT)training was superior to single-task(sT)training in improving DT walking,balance and cognitive functions for individuals with Parkinson’s disease(PD).Methods:Literature search was performed in the following electronic databases:PubMed,the Cochrane Library,Web of science,and Metstr covering inception to May 10,*** in order to facilitate comparison across trials,we calculated the effect size(Hedges’g)of gait,balance,cognitive,and other parameters under both sT and DT conditions,using the mean change score and standard deviation(sD)of change score of the experimental and control *** controlled trials that examined the effects of DT motor and cognitive training in individuals with Parkinson’s disease were included for this systematic ***:A total of 214 participants recruited from six articles(actually five trials)were involved in this *** terms of walking ability,only double support time and stride time variability showed significant between-group difference(Hedges’g=0.34,0.18,respectively).Compared to sT training group,DT training group had a more improvement effect in laboratory balance measurement(Hedges’g=0.18,1.25),but no significant improvement in clinical balance *** significant between-group differences were observed,thus its training effect on cognitive function was ***:The DT training failed to achieve promising results better than sT training in improving DT walking and balance functions for individuals with *** firm conclusion cannot be drawn at present,due to the limited number of eligible *** sample size and high-quality studies are needed to investigate the effectiveness of DT training in individuals with PD.

Nuclear mass predictions based on a deep neural network and finite-range droplet model(2012)

A neural network with two hidden layers is developed for nuclear mass prediction,based on the finiterange droplet model(FRDM12).Different hyperparameters,including the number of hidden units,choice of activation functions,initializers,and learning rates,are adjusted explicitly and *** resulting mass predictions are achieved by averaging the predictions given by several different sets of hyperparameters with different regularizers and seed *** can provide not only the average values of mass predictions but also reliable estimations in the mass prediction *** overall root-mean-square deviations of nuclear mass are reduced from 0.603 MeV for the FRDM12 model to 0.200 MeV and 0.232 MeV for the training and validation sets,respectively.

sequence assembling is an important step for bioinformatics *** the help of next generation sequencing(NGs)technology,high throughput DNA fragment(reads)can be randomly sampled from DNA or RNA molecular ***,as the positions of reads being sampled are unknown,assembling process is required for combining overlapped reads to reconstruct the original DNA or RNA *** with traditional sanger sequencing methods,although the throughput of NGs reads increases,the read length is shorter and the error rate is *** introduces several problems in ***,paired-end reads instead of single-end reads can be sampled which contain more *** existing assemblers cannot fully utilize this information and fails to assemble longer *** this article,we will revisit the major problems of assembling NGs reads on genomic,transcriptomic,metagenomic and metatranscriptomic *** will also describe our IDBA package for solving these *** package has adopted several novel ideas in assembling,including using multiple k,local assembling and progressive depth *** with existence assemblers,IDBA has better performance on many simulated and real sequencing datasets.

Review of Feynman’s Path Integral in Quantum statistics:from the Molecular schrödinger Equation to Kleinert’s Variational Perturbation Theory

Feynman’s path integral reformulates the quantum schrödinger differential equation to be an integral *** has been being widely used to compute internuclear quantum-statistical effects on many-body molecular *** this Review,the molecular schrödinger equation will first be introduced,together with the BornOppenheimer approximation that decouples electronic and internuclear *** effective semiclassical potentials,e.g.,centroid potential,which are all formulated in terms of Feynman’s path integral,will be discussed and *** semiclassical potentials can be used to directly calculate the quantum canonical partition function without individual schrödinger’s energy *** a result,path integrations are conventionally performed with Monte Carlo and molecular dynamics sampling *** complement these techniques,we will examine how Kleinert’s variational perturbation(KP)theory can provide a complete theoretical foundation for developing non-sampling/non-stochastic methods to systematically calculate centroid *** enable the powerful KP theory to be practical for many-body molecular systems,we have proposed a new path-integral method:automated integrationfree path-integral(AIF-PI)*** to the integration-free and computationally inexpensive characteristics of our AIF-PI method,we have used it to perform ab initio path-integral calculations of kinetic isotope effects on proton-transfer and RNA-related phosphoryl-transfer chemical *** computational procedure of using our AIF-PI method,along with the features of our new centroid path-integral theory at the minimum of the absolute-zero energy(AMAZE),are also highlighted in this review.

Chemically synthesized near-infrared to mid-infrared(IR)colloidal quantum dots(QDs)offer a promising platform for the realization of devices including emitters,detectors,security,and sensor ***,at longer wavelengths,the quantum yield of such QDs decreases as the radiative emission rate drops following Fermi’s golden rule,while non-radiative recombination channels compete with light *** over the radiative and non-radiative channels of the IR-emitting QDs is crucially important to improve the performance of IR-range ***,we demonstrate strong enhancement of the spontaneous emission rate of near-to mid-IR HgTe QDs coupled to periodically arranged plasmonic nanoantennas,in the form of nanobumps,produced on the surface of glasssupported Au films via ablation-free direct femtosecond laser *** enhancement is achieved by simultaneous radiative coupling of the emission that spectrally matches the first-order lattice resonance of the arrays,as well as more efficient photoluminescence excitation provided by coupling of the pump radiation to the local surface plasmon resonances of the isolated ***,coupling of the HgTe QDs to the lattice plasmons reduces the influence of non-radiative decay losses mediated by the formation of polarons formed between QD surface-trapped carriers and the IR absorption bands of dodecanethiol used as a ligand on the QDs,allowing us to improve the shape of the emission spectrum through a reduction in the spectral dip related to this ligand *** the ease of the chemical synthesis and processing of the HgTe QDs combined with the scalability of the direct laser fabrication of nanoantennas with tailored plasmonic responses,our results provide an important step towards the design of IR-range devices for various applications.

A biosynthetic gene cluster for the bioactive fungal sesterterpenoids variecolin(1)and variecolactone(2)was identified in Aspergillus aculeatus ATCC *** production of 1 and 2 was achieved in Aspergillus oryzae by expressing the sesterterpene synthase VrcA and the cytochrome P450 ***,the replacement of VrcB with homologous P450s from other fungal terpenoid pathways yielded three new variecolin analogues(5-7).Analysis of the compounds’anticancer activity in vitro and in vivo revealed that although 5 and 1 had comparable activities,5 was associated with significantly reduced toxic side effects in cancer-bearing mice,indicating its potentially broader therapeutic *** study describes the first tests of variecolin and its analogues in animals and demonstrates the utility of synthetic biology for creating molecules with improved biological activities.

Understanding of animal spatial behavior is essential for informed management *** southern Africa,reintroduction of lions(Panthera leo)to small reserves(s increased since the early 2000s,however studies on their ranging behavior in these enclosed systems remain *** applied Time Local Convex Hull(T-LoCoH)methods to study the home range establishment and utilization of 11 lions reintroduced to Dinokeng Game Reserve,south Africa,during 2011 through *** established home ranges close to their release sites and during the following 3 years their home range sizes continued to increase,but in each individual case the size remained smaller than half of the reserve area(space use strategies differed between the core and the entire home range,with higher frequency of visits found in core *** high rates(>60 separate visits)around the largest dam and along rivers suggest the importance of water and its surrounding vegetation in the lions’space utilization *** home range size did not differ with season or sex of the individuals,whereas shifts in locations of home ranges revealed differences in the response of the 2 sexes to territorial conflicts and management *** study shows a dynamic home range utilization pattern and highlights the importance of both fine-scale space use patterns(frequency and duration of visits)and broadscale home range changes in understanding the ranging behavior of reintroduced animals.

The free-surface flows,such as flows in rivers,lakes,and tides,play an important role in hydraulic engineering and environmental ***,due to their complex and changeable characters,the precise evolution procedure is quite difficult to *** this study,the authors propose a novel framework to reconstruct the free-surface flow modelled by the shallow water equations by assimilating the images *** particular,the ensemble Kalman filter framework is employed to implement the assimilation *** efficiency of the proposed strategy has been verified through numerical simulations in which the accurate flow field in different situations could be obtained within limited assimilation steps.
