Background： Studies have reported the presence of sleep disorders in approximately 50-70% of diabetic patients, and these may contribute to poor glycemic control, diabetic neuropathy, and overnight hypoglycemia. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of sleep disorders in diabetic patients, and to investigate possible relationships between scores of these sleep disorders and obstructive sleep apnea syndrome （OSAS） and diabetic parameters （fasting blood glucose, glycated hemoglobin Alc [HbA lc], and lipid levels）. Methods： We used the Berlin questionnaire （BQ） for OSAS, the Epworth Sleepiness Scale （ESS）, and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index （PSQI） to determine the frequency of sleep disorders and their possible relationships with fasting blood glucose, HbA I c, and lipid levels. Results： The study included 585 type 2 diabetic patients admitted to family medicine clinics between October and December 2014. Sleep, sleep quality, and sleep scores were used as the dependent variables in the analysis. The ESS scores showed that 54.40% of patients experienced excessive daytime sleepiness, and according to the PSQI, 64.30% experienced poor-quality sleep. The BQ results indicated that 50.20% of patients were at high-risk of OSAS. HbAlc levels correlated significantly with the ESS and PSQI results （r = 0.23, P 〈 0.001 and r = 0.14, P = 0.001, respectively）, and were significantly higher in those with high-risk of OSAS as defined by the BQ （P 〈 0.001 ）. These results showed that HbAlc levels were related to sleep disorders. conclusions： Sleep disorders are common in diabetic patients and negatively affect the control of diabetes. conversely, poor diabetes control is an important factor disturbing sleep quality. Addressing sleep disturbances in patients who have difficulty controlling their blood glucose has dual benefits： Preventing diabetic cornplications caused by sleep disturbance and improving diabetes control.

Electricity Generation in Turkey by Geothermal Energy Resources

Electricity generation generally is made in thermal, hydro, geothermal power plants and windfarms/windparks. Because of some advantages such as renewability, low-cost, clean, safe and naturality geothermal and wind energy will have been electricity generation source in the near future. Turkey has hot water springs suitable for electricity generation between 130-242 ~c with natural vapor and hydrothermal alterations in connection with grabens limited to active faults and diffuse young volcanism in Western Anatolia Region. Other renewable energy and electricity generation resource is wind energy. In Turkey electricity generation is made by windfarms/windparks. These parks/farms are generated 1,414.55 MW electricity. The year 2010 electricity general total installed capacity in Turkey is about 49,524.1 MW. According to the total installed capacity, thermal power plants have 65.18%, hydro power plants have 31.97%, geothermal power plants and wind farms have 2.85%. Electricity generation generally was obtained from 15 thermal power plants. In this study high temperature geothermal fields and windparks/windfarms in Turkey which are suitable for electricity generation potential were investigated.

Objective:To define histopathologic and immunohistochemical features of the lungs,heart,liver,and kidneys in patients who died from coronavirus disease 2019(cOVID-19),and to determine the presence of SARS-coV-2 in all tissues,as well as the presence of fungi and parasites in lung ***:This retrospective case study was conducted in the intensive care units of Dokuz Eylül University Hospital,and patients(≥18 years)who died due to cOVID-19 between October 2020 and April 2021 were *** biopsy samples of the patient’s lung,heart,liver,and kidney tissues were ***:In the study,we enrolled 12 patients(mean age:70 years;50%male).Alveolar epithelial cell damage and diffuse alveolar damage were predominant in lung *** lymphocyte infiltration,centrilobular sinusoidal dilatation,and microvesicular steatosis in the liver,together with pigmented cast,non-isometric vacuolar degeneration,and capillary plugging in the kidneys,were commonly found among the ***-coV-2 nucleocapsid protein antibodies were detected in three lung and two kidney tissues,and so did angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 receptor positivity in one lung and more than half of the kidney *** RT-PcR tests were positive in three lungs and one kidney *** DNA isolation from lung tissues,Pneumocystis jirovecii was detected in nine patients,Aspergillus fumigatus in two,Microsporidia in three,and cryptosporidium in ***:SARS-coV-2 is a multisystemic *** and parasites should be investigated in critically ill cOVID-19 patients prescribed corticosteroids.

Toxicity of copper on marine organisms from the Black Sea

Objective: To investigate the effect of copper on crangon crangon (Linnaeus, 1758) (c. crangon) and Syngnathus acus (Linnaeus, 1758) (S. acus) from Black Sea. Methods: The acute toxicity of copper in water with clean sediment to c. crangon and S. acus from Sinop Peninsula of the Black Sea was evaluated by static 10-day and 21-day bioassays. Results: Mortality of both organisms increased with increase in concentrations of copper. The results showed that S. acus was more sensitive to copper than c. crangon. conclusions: In the present study, both c. crangon and S. acus have been shown to be a suitable test species to assess heavy metal toxicity using static 21-day and 10-day bioassays.

BAcKGROUND: Appendicitis is a common disease requiring surgery. Bedside ultrasound(BUS) is a core technique for emergency medicine(EM). The Alvarado score is a well-studied diagnostic tool for appendicitis. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between patients' symptoms, Alvarado score and ultrasound(US) findings, as performed by emergency physicians(EPs) and radiologists, of patients with suspected ***: Three EM specialists underwent the BUS course and core course for appendicitis assessment. Patients suspected of having appendicitis were selected and their Alvarado and modif ied(m) Alvarado scores calculated. The specialists performed the BUS. Then, patients were given a formal US and surgery consultation if necessary. Preliminary diagnoses, admission or discharge from the emergency department(ED) and fi nal diagnosis were documented. The patients were also followed up after discharge from the ***: The determined cut-off value was 2 for Alvarado and 3 for m Alvarado scores. The sensitivities of the two scores were 100%. Each score was used to rule out appendicitis. The results of EP-performed BUS were as follows: accuracy 70%, sensitivity 0.733, specifi city 0.673, + LR 2.24, and – LR 0.40(95%cI). Radiologists were better than EPs at diagnosing appendicitis and radiologists and EPs were equally strong at ruling out appendicitis by US. When US was combined with Alvarado and m Alvarado scores, EP US+Alvarado/m Alvarado scores ≤3 and radiology US+Alvarado/m Alvarado scores ≤4 perfectly ruled out ***: BUS performed by EPs is moderately useful in detecting appendicitis. combined with scoring systems, BUS may be a perfect tool for ruling out decisions in EDs.

1前言本文介绍了伊斯坦布尔技术大学采矿工程系H·copur等人利用链锯机切割石灰华矿山的研究成果。他们利用链锯机切割中软到中等硬度石材,如石灰华和大理石。这些链锯机可以在地下和地面采石场中应用,同时与金刚石绳锯配套使用,完成石材荒料垂直面和水平面切割作业。在石材荒料生产中使用链锯可以提高了采石场整体切割效率,提高荒料质量,减少了金刚石绳锯水平钻孔和放绳时间。

Objective: Insulin receptor substrate- 1 (IRS- 1) expression and tyrosine phosphorylation is decreased during pregnancy. Pregnancy may be a suitable condition to detect any abnormalities related to IRS- 1 polymorphisms. Therefore,we aimed to investigate the prevalence and metabolic impacts of IRS- 1 G972R polymorphism in patients with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Study design: Anthropometric and metabolic variables of 62 women who were diagnosed as having GDM according to 100 g oral glucose tolerance test were compared on the basis of IRS- 1 polymorphism by univariate analysis of covariance. Results: Patients with IRS- 1 G972R were more obese at the beginning of pregnancy, had higher serum fasting insulin and glucose levels. Weight gain during pregnancy and insulin and glucose levels after glucose ingestion was comparable between groups. conclusion: IRS- 1 G972R was associated with the baseline characteristics of the patients with GDM, and might be related to insulin resistance that is seen in obese patients with GDM.
