Newly identified Au-Ag-Bi-Te mineralization in the Aydindere skarn Fe and Cu deposit， Giresun， NE Turkey: implications of gold mineralization during retrograde skarn evolution

This study investigates the mineralogy and mineral-chemistry of a newly discovered Au-Ag-Bi-Te mineralization at the Aydindere Fe-Cu skarn deposit， within the Pontides Tectonic Unit， northeastern Turkey. The mineralization is developed in the skarn zone at the contact between Upper Cretaceous andesite-pyroclastic rocks and a Paleocene-Eocene I-type granitoid. The principal ore minerals of the Aydindere Fe-Cu deposit are oxides (magnetite)， sulfides (pyrite-chalcopyrite-galena-sphalerite)， tellurides/sulfotellurides (tetradymite， hessite)， sulfosalts (wittichenite， emplectite， aikinite) and native gold-electrum. Skarn minerals include anhydrous phases (garnet) formed in a prograde stage and hydrous phases (amphibole， epidote， chlorite)， which were formed in a retrograde stage in association with quartz， adularia， apatite and late calcite. Sulfides， tellurides and sulfosalts are introduced during the retrograde stage. The Au-Ag-Bi-Te mineralization was detected for the first time within the western ore body of the Aydindere deposit， and occurs in calcite-bearing sulfide bodies that cut magnetite-garnet-amphibole-epidote skarns with magnetite ores of different grade， including massive magnetite. Chlorite geothermometry indicates formation of the Au-Ag-Bi-Te mineralization at temperatures between 300 and 250 °C， during the retrograde skarn evolution. Assuming the temperature is ～275°C， logfS2= -10.5 to -13， logfO2= -37 to -33， and logfTe2values range from approximately -12 to -8.5 were estimated. The available mineralogical and geological data (presences of magnetite， oxidized-type tellurides/sulfotellurides， and andraditic garnets， and absence of pyrrhotite and arsenopyrite) suggest that Aydindere is an oxidized Au-bearing skarn deposit. The discovery of Au-Ag-Bi-Te mineralization at Aydindere increases its productivity and requires more detailed exploration in the deposit for precious (Au， Ag) and critical (Bi， Te) metals.

This study presents the results of hydrogeochemical studies carried out in Zeytun thermal springs in Kahramanmaras,located South Middle *** than 90thermal water samples were collected on a regular basis from 2006to 2008to measure element concentrations as a monitor of earthquake *** samples were analyzed using *** observed B,Ba,Br and Ge concentrations for 16months are in ranges of 79～422,103～167,28～93and 0.3～1.2 μ g.L-1,*** concentrations for these periods are in range of 7～*** data identify some element anomalies before *** anomalies are characterized by decreases up to 158%in Ba and Cl *** occurrence of these anomalies can be attributed to stress / strain induced pressure changes in the subsurface water *** can be suggested that the thermal springs in the fault line area are ideal sites for precursors of earthquakes.

High-Throughput Screening Using Fourier-Transform Infrared Imaging

Efficient parallel screening of combinatorial libraries is one of the most challenging aspects of the high- throughput （HT） heterogeneous catalysis workflow. Today, a number of methods have been used in HT catalyst studies, including various optical, mass-spectrometry, and gas- chromatography techniques. Of these, rapid-scanning Fourier-transform infrared （FTIR） imaging is one of the fastest and most versatile screening techniques. Here, the new design of the 16-channel HT reactor is presented and test results for its accuracy and reproducibility are shown. The performance of the system was evaluated through the oxidation of CO over commercial Pd/AI203 and cobalt oxide nanoparticles synthesized with different reducer-reductant molar ratios, surfactant types, metal and surfactant concentrations, synthesis temperatures, and ramp rates.

Etiology and portal vein thrombosis in Budd-Chiari syndrome

AIM: To research the etiology, portal vein thrombosis and other features of Budd-Chiari syndrome (BCS) patients prospectively. METHODS: A total of 75 patients (40 female, 35 male) who were diagnosed between January 2002 and July 2004 as having BCS were studied prospectively. Findings from on physical examination, ultrasonography, duplex ultrasonography and venography were analyzed. Hemogram and blood chemistry were studied at the time of diagnosis and on each hospital visit. Bone marrow examination and immune phenotyping were performed by a hematologist when necessary. Protein C, S, antithrombin Ⅲ, activated protein C resistance, and anticardiolipin antibodies, antinuclear antibodies, and anti ds-DNA were studied twice. The presence of ascite, esophageal varices, and portal thrombosis were evaluated at admission and on every visit. RESULTS: At least one etiological factor was determined in 54 (72%) of the patients. The etiology could not be defined in 21 (28%) patients. One etiological factor was found in 39, 2 factors in 14 and 3 factors in 1 patient. The most common cause was the web (16%), the second was Hydatid disease (11%), the third was Behcet’s disease (9%). Portal vein thrombosis was present in 11 patients and at least one etiology was identified in 9 of them (82%). CONCLUSION: Behcet’s disease and hydatid disease are more prominent etiological factors in Turkey than in other countries. Patients with web have an excellent response to treatment without signs of portal veinthrombosis while patients having thrombofilic factors more than one are prone to develop portal vein thrombosis with worse clinical outcome.

4-Amino-3-(p-chlorophenyl)-5-(p-methoxybenzyl)-4H-1,2,4-triazole:X-ray and DFT-calculated Structures

The title compound, 4-amino-3-（p-chlorophenyl）-5-（p-methoxybenzyl）-4H-1,2,4- triazole I , C16H15ClN4O）, has been determined using X-ray diffraction techniques and the molecular structure has also been optimized at the B3LYP/6-31 G（d, p） level using density functional theory （DFT）. The triazole ring exhibits dihedral angles of 41.61（15）o and 80.73（11）o with the phenyl rings. The molecules are linked principally by N–H…N hydrogen bonds involving the amino NH2 group and a triazole N atom, forming C（5） chains which are further linked to give a two-dimensional network of molecules. The N–H…N hydrogen bonding is supported by C–H…N hydrogen bond and C–H…π interaction. Intermolecular N–H…N and C–H…N hydrogen bonds produce R22（9）, R44（10） and R44（20） rings.

Transcutaneous cervical esophagus ultrasound in adults: Relation with ambulatory 24-h pH-monitoring and esophageal manometry

AIM: To determine the gastroesophageal refl uxate in the cervical esophagus (CE) and measure transcutaneous cervical esophageal ultrasound (TCEUS) f indings [anterior wall thickness (WT) of CE, esophageal luminal diameter (ELD), esophageal diameter (ED)]; to compare TCEUS findings in the patient subgroups divided according to 24-h esophageal pH monitoring and manometry; and to investigate possible cut-off values according to the TCEUS f indings as a predictor of gastroesophageal refl ux (GER). METHODS: In 45/500 patients, refl uxate was visualized in TCEUS. 38/45 patients underwent esophagogastroduo denoscopy (EGD), 24-h pH monitoring and manometry. RESULTS: The 38 patients were grouped according to 24-h pH monitoring as follows: Group A: GER-positive (n = 20) [Includes Group B: isolated proximal refl ux (PR) (n = 6), Group C: isolated distal reflux (DR) (n = 6), and Group D: both PR/DR (n = 8)]; Group E: no refl ux (n = 13); and Group F: hypersensitive esophagus (HSE) (n = 5). Groups B + D indicated total PR patients (n = 14), Groups E + F refl ux-negatives with HSE (n = 18), and Groups A + F refl ux-positives with HSE (n = 25). When the 38 patients were grouped according to manometry fi ndings, 24 had normal esophageal manometry; 7 had hypotensive and 2 had hypertensive lower esophageal sphincter (LES); and 5 had ineffective esophageal motility disorder (IEM). The ELD measurement was greater in group A + F than group E (P = 0.023, 5.0 ± 1.3 vs 3.9 ± 1.4 mm). In 27/38 patients, there was at least one pathologic acid refl ux and/or pathologic manometry fi nding. The cut-off value for ELD of 4.83 mm had 79% sensitivity and 61% specificity in predicting the PRbetween Groups B + D and E (AUC = 0.775, P = 0.015). CONCLUSION: Visualizing refluxate in TCEUS was useful as a pre-diagnostic tool for estimating GER or manometric pathology in 71.1% of adults in our study, but it was not diagnostic for CE WT.

Inhibitory Effect of Fentanyl on Phenylephrine-Induced Contraction on Rabbit Aorta

This in vitro study was designed to assess the effects of fentanyl on isolated rabbit thoracic aorta rings contracted with phenylephrine. Methods included contraction of aorta rings with phenylephrine (10–5 M) and recording the changes after increasing concentrations of fentanyl (10–9 M – 10–5 M). Similar experiments were done after incubation with Nω- nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (10–4 M), indomethacin (10-5 M), naloxone (10–5 M), ouabain (10–5 M), TEA (10–4 M) and glibenclamide (10–5 M). It was revealed that, fentanyl causes relaxation in rabbit aorta rings precontracted with phenylephrine. Removal of endothelium significantly reduces the relaxant response to fentanyl. Nitric oxide synthase inhibitor L-NAME, K+ channel blocker glibenclamide and Na+/K+ ATPase inhibitor ouabain inhibits the relaxant effect of fentanyl in endothelium intact aorta rings. These results suggest that fentanyl causes dose dependent vasodilatation in the rabbit aorta via activation of KATP channels and Na+-K+ -ATPase, and nitric oxide released from endothelium.
