Based on an unexpected result of obtaining molecular sequence data from tropical representatives of the genus Normandina,we revised the biological concept of the neotropical taxon Marchandiomphalina *** obtained data let us conclude that *** is not a basidiomycete,as originally proposed,but belongs in Verrucariaceae,in the genus Agonimia,including its perithecia which had been identified with the lichenicolous Norrlinia *** ITS(and nuLSU)sequences previously obtained from ***,seemingly confirming its status as a basidiomycete,are from an unmanifested lichenicolous fungus,present also in numerous specimens of *** data suggest the presence of seven lineages that can be recognized at the species level,forming two clusters:one cluster of three lineages found in thalli of ***,and a second cluster of four lineages found in thalli of *** pattern is similar to what has recently been found in the basidiomycete genus Cyphobasidium occurring predominantly in Parmeliaceae *** propose the combination of Omphalina foliacea into the genus Agonimia,as Agonimia foliacea(P.M.Jørg.)Lucking&Moncada,***.,and place Marchandiomphalina in synonymy with *** formally recognize the unnamed lichenicolous basidiomycete present in Agonimia and Normandina thalli,we take advantage of provision ICN Art.40.5 in the Code and describe the unmanifested fungus as a new genus,with seven new species,even if no physical type specimens can be preserved(except for the corresponding host lichens which,however,do not show the features of the fungus):Lawreymyces Lucking&Moncada,***.(Type:***),with *** Lucking&Moncada,***.,*** Lucking&Moncada,***.,*** Lucking&Moncada,***.,L,foliaceae Lucking&Moncada,***.,*** Lucking&Moncada,***.,*** Lucking&Moncada,***.,and *** Lucking&Moncada,*** opens the door to the formal recognition of thousands of spec

Predators efficiently learn to avoid one type of warning signal rather than several, making colour polymorphisms un- expected. Aposematic wood tiger moth males Parasemia plantaginis have either white or yellow hindwing coloration across Eu- rope. Previous studies indicate that yellow males are better defended from predators, while white males have a positively frequency-dependent mating advantage. However, the potential frequency-dependent behavioural differences in flight between the morphs, as well as the role of male-male interactions in inducing flying activity, have not been previously considered. We ran an outdoor cage experiment where proportions of both male morphs were manipulated to test whether flying activity was frequency- dependent and differed between morphs. The white morph was significantly more active than the yellow one across all treatments, and sustained activity for longer. Overall activity for both morphs was considerably lower in the yellow-biased environment, suggesting that higher proportions of yellow males in a population may lead to overall reduced flying activity. The activity of the yellow morph also followed a steeper, narrower curve than that of the white morph during peak female calling activity. We sug- gest that white males, with their presumably less costly defences, have more resources to invest in flight for predator escape and finding mates. Yellow males, which are better protected but less sexually selected, may instead compensate their lower flight ac- tivity by ＇flying smart＇ during the peak female-calling periods. Thus, both morphs may be able to behaviourally balance the trade-off between warning signal selection and sexual selection. Our results emphasize the greater need to investigate animal behaviour and colour polymorphisms in natural or semi-natural environments [Current Zoology 61 （4）： 765-772, 2015].

Molecular phylogeny of the genus Sticta (lichenized Ascomycota: Lobariaceae) in Colombia

We present a molecular phylogenetic study of the lichen genus Sticta focusing on Colombia,using the ITS fungal barcoding gene for a total of 370 ingroup OTUs,with 322 newly generated *** topology resulting from a maximum likelihood approach does not support current species concepts in Sticta,which use a morphological concept,but in contrast shows that similar morphodemes evolved multiple times independently within the *** a consequence,currently applied names such as *** and *** comprise numerous(up to more than 20)unrelated species-level lineages,which can be distinguished also phenotypically using previously unrecognized characters such as lobe configuration,lobe surface structure,tomentum type,and anatomy of the basal membrane of the *** conclude that the genus Sticta contains about four to five times the number of species currently *** Colombia alone,approximately 150 species of Sticta are present.

The bioremediation of a long-term contaminated soil through biostimulation and surfactant addition was evaluated. The concentrations of 1,1,1-trichloro-2,2-bis（4-chlorophenyl）ethane（DDT） and its metabolites 1,1-dichloro-2,2-bis（4-chlorophenyl） ethane（DDD） and1,1-dichloro-2,2-bis（4-chlorophenyl） ethylene（DDE） were monitored during an 8-week remediation process. Physicochemical characterization of the treated soil was performed before and after the bioremediation process. The isolation and identification of predominant microorganisms during the remediation process were also carried out. The efficiency of detoxification was evaluated after each bioremediation protocol. Humidity and p H and the heterotrophic microorganism count were monitored weekly. The DDT concentration was reduced by 79% after 8 weeks via biostimulation with surfactant addition（B ＋ S） and 94.3%via biostimulation alone（B）. Likewise, the concentrations of the metabolites DDE and DDD were reduced to levels below the quantification limits. The microorganisms isolated during bioremediation were identified as Bacillus thuringiensis, Flavobacterium sp., Cuprivadius sp.,Variovorax soli, Phenylobacterium sp. and Lysobacter sp., among others. Analysis with scanning electron microscopy（SEM） allowed visualization of the colonization patterns of soil particles. The toxicity of the soil before and after bioremediation was evaluated using Vibrio fischeri as a bioluminescent sensor. A decrease in the toxic potential of the soil was verified by the increase of the concentration/effect relationship EC50 to 26.9% and 27.2% for B ＋ S and B, respectively, compared to 0.4% obtained for the soil before treatment and 2.5%by natural attenuation after 8 weeks of treatment.

Selective Posterior Epiphysiodesis of the Triradiate Cartilage of the Acetabulum: Preliminary Results of an Experimental Study in Rabbits

Background: Residual acetabular dysplasia is one of the main complications of developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH). Without treatment, over time degenerative osteoarthritis of the joint will develop, inexorably leading to the need for joint replacement. Acetabular and/or femoral osteotomies do not avoid the appearance of osteoarthritis in a significant number of patients. The purpose of this study was to assess the possibility of provoking changes in the morphology of the acetabulum through selective epiphysiodesis of the extra-articular portion of the ilioischial arm of the triradiate cartilage, using a percutaneous cannulated screw with the guidance of an imaging intensifier in an experimental model in rabbits. Methods: In a pilot study, 3-week-old New Zealand rabbits (n = 20) were submitted to unilateral surgery of the hip while the contralateral hip of the same group was used as a control. Posterior epiphysiodesis to the triradiate cartilage of the acetabulum was performed by placement of a cannulated screw. The rabbits were followed-up until 18 weeks of life. Radiographic measurements of the hips were performed immediately postoperatively and at 12 weeks of life and before the rabbits were sacrificed at week 18. Three-dimensional computed tomography (3D-CT) scans were performed. Non-parametric tests for paired samples and the Wilcoxon test were used to compare the differences between group 1 and group 2. A p < 0.05 was considered significant. Results: The non-intervened hips showed that, when the rabbit matured, the acetabulum lost concavity and depth. When comparing the median differences of the angles evaluated at 12 weeks between groups, a statistically significant difference was found in all radiographic measurements: an increase in Wiberg’s angle but a decrease in acetabular index, acetabular angle of Sharp, acetabular depth index, and acetabular anteversion. Lignin was extracted from peat by Sosa Method. In order to increase its chemical activity, it is necessary to make a structural modification by hydroxymethylation so it can be used in preparation of synthetic wood. Depolymerization was made by two methods：（1） reaction oflignin with NaOH 2%; （2） exposition oflignin to UV beam for 6, 12, 24, 36, 48 and 60 hours. The best depolimerization result was with exposition of lignin to UV by 12 hours since phenylpropanoic structure with higher number of free positions （unoccupied carbons） in C3 and C5 of its aromatic ring was obtained. It is known by Mannich Reaction and determination of phenolic OH by UV analysis. Later, its reactivity was increased by hydroxymethylation process by means of reaction of depolymerizated product with formaldehyde and later with glyoxal since it is less toxic. The modified product was mixed with six different kinds of resins （phenol-formaldehyde, urea-formaldehyde, melamine-formaldehyde, Glyoxal-formaldehyde, urea-formaldehyde and melamine-formaldehyde） to obtain a better mechanical characteristic as a synthetic wood. The best result was the one with melamine-formaldehyde. Finally, this product was mixed with testa rice so final product showed a great hardness and a shinny and smooth appearance.
