Brea.t ca.cer rema.ns the ma.n ca.se of ca.cer-rela.ed morta.ity for women world-wide. Ma.n ca.se of dea.h is the development of thera.y-resista.t meta.ta.es. Rela.ses occur with a.bimoda. tempora. distribution, with a.first pea. a. 1-2 yea.s a.ter initia. thera.y a.d a.second pea. 2-3 yea.s la.er. This discontinuous growth kinetics is consistent with the notion tha. dissemina.ed ca.cer cells ca. rema.n dorma.t over a.prolonged period of time before resuming growth. How ca.cer cells enter, susta.n a.d exit dorma.cy, a.e una.swered questions with releva.ce to ca.cer biology, monitoring a.d thera.y. Investiga.ing mecha.isms of brea.t ca.cer dorma.cy rema.ns cha.lenging, a. in pa.ients the condition is elusive a.d experimenta.ly there a.e only a.few models tha. reca.itula.e the clinica. condition. Thus, developing new models to identify clinica.ly releva.t mecha.isms a.d ca.dida.e thera.eutic ta.gets ma. open new a.enues for novel thera.ies to induce a.d prolong dorma.cy. We ha.e observed tha. cells surviving chemothera.y ca. enter a.sta.e of immunologica. dorma.cy. Using this model, we identified IRF-7/Interferon type I/IFNRa.a. signa.ing a.is essentia. for this effect. Here we will review concepts a.d recent developments in ca.cer meta.ta.is a.d dorma.cy with empha.is on brea.t ca.cer, a.d ela.ora.e stra.egies to exploit them thera.eutica.ly.

Neuropa.hologica. cha.ges a.socia.ed with hydrocepha.us a.e dependent on the a.e of onset, ra.e of ventricula. enla.gement, a.d the etiology. Hydrocepha.ic bra.n da.a.e is a.so influenced by contributions from both mecha.ica. forces a.d meta.olic cha.ges, which increa.es the heterogeneity of the condition. However, a. ventriculomega.y progresses, the surrounding bra.n tissue is compressed within the cra.ia. va.lt, eleva.ing intra.ra.ia. pressure a.d eventua.ly lea.ing to severe bra.n da.a.e. From this perspective, it ma.es sense tha. periventricula. bra.n regions a.e the initia. sites of da.a.e a. ventricula. dila.a.ion occurs. The following review of neuropa.hologica. cha.ges in hydrocepha.us will first discuss cellula. a.d region specific da.a.e from the ventricles a.d outwa.d towa.ds the cortex a.d bra.nstem. This will be followed by va.cula. a.d hypoxic cha.ges a.socia.ed with the condition. Thera.eutic benefit in ta.geting Ta.s suggests tha. ma.ropha.es a.e a.tra.tive ta.gets for ca.cer trea.ment. Chinese ma.eria.medica.CMM） is a. importa.t a.proa.h for trea.ing ca.cer in China.a.d in the a.ia. region. a.cording to the theory of Chinese medicine（CM） a.d its pra.tice, some prescriptions of CM regula.e the body＇s interna. environment possibly including the remodeling the tumor microenvironment（TME）. Here we briefly summa.ize the pivota. effects of Ta.s in sha.ing the TME a.d promoting tumorigenesis, inva.ion, meta.ta.isa.d immunosuppression.
