Hepatectomy for huge hepatocellular carcinoma in 634 cases

AIM： To clarify the safety and feasibility of hepatectomy for huge hepatocellular carcinoma （HCC）. METHODS： A total of 4765 patients with HCC operated at Tongji Hospital were retrospectively studied, of them, 780 patients had huge HCC （10 cm or more in diameter）. Hepatectomy was carried out on 634 patients （81.2%）. The majority of the liver resection were major resections, and combined resection of the adjacent organs or structures was common （17.2%）. The liver resection was combined with portal vein thrombectomy in 139 patients （21.9%）. RESULTS： Postoperative complications were common （26.8%） and required another laparotomy to prevent the complications in 5 patients （0.8%）. The 30-d mortality was 2.2%. The main causes of postoperative deaths were liver failure （n = 9）, postoperative bleeding （n = 4） and septic complication （n = 1）. The 3-, 5- and 10-year survival rates after liver resection were 35.1%, 18.2% and 3.5%, respectively. CONCLUSION： Hepatectomy for huge HCC is safe and effective. It should be used to treat patients with low surgical risks and resectable tumours.

AIM： To reverse the multidrug resistance （MDR） by RNA interference （RNAi）-mediated MDRI suppression in heparoma ***： For reversing MDR by RNAi technology, two different short hairpin RNAs （shRNAs） were designed and constructed into pGenSil-1 plasmid, respectively. They were then transfected into a highly adriarnycin-resistant HepG2 hepatorna cell line （HepG2/ADM）. The RNAi effect on MDR was evaluated by real-time PCR, cell cytotoxicity assay and rhodarnine 123 （Rh123） efflux assy. RESULTS： The stably-transfected clones showed various degrees of reversal of MDR phenotype. Surprisingly, the MDR phenotype was completely reversed in two transfected clones. CONCLUSION： MDR can be reversed by the shRNAmediated MDRI suppression in HepG2/ADM cells, which provides a valuable clue to make multidrug-resistant hepatoma cells sensitive to anti-cancer drugs.

Cation additives can efficiently enhance the total electrochemical capabilities of zinc-ion hybrid capacitors (ZHCs).However their energy storage mechanisms in zinc-based systems are still under ***,we modulate the electrolyte and achieve dual-ion storage by adding magnesium *** we assemble several Zn//activated carbon devices with different electrolyte concentrations and investigate their electrochemical reaction dynamic *** zinc-ion capacitor with Mg^(2+)mixed solution delivers 82 mAh·g^(-1)capacity at 1 A·g^(-1) and maintains 91%of the original capacitance after 10000 *** is superior to the other assembled zinc-ion devices in single-component *** finding demonstrates that the double-ion storage mechanism enables the superior rate performance and long cycle lifetime of ZHCs.

The arresting process of carrier-based aircraft is widely recognized as a challenging task,characterized by the highest accident rate among all carrier-based aircraft *** simulation plays a crucial role in assessing the intricate responses of the arresting process,favoring the design of carrier-based *** efficient and accurate rigid-flexible coupling model for analyzing the dynamic response of the arresting process is *** combining the dynamic characteristics of airframe,landing gear,arresting hook and arresting gear system,the rigid-flexible coupling dynamic model is established to reflect the relative motion of the coupling parts and arresting *** dynamic model is verified through simulations of landing gear landing drops and by comparing the arresting simulation results with corresponding data in the US military ***,simulations of the arresting process under different off-center distance and aircraft yaw angle are conducted to obtain the dynamic response of the aircraft during the arresting *** result indicates that the rigid-flexible coupling dynamic model proposed is effective for analyzing the arresting dynamics response of carrier-based *** axial force of the arresting cable on both sides of the hook engagement point,pitch and yaw angle of aircraft are inconsistent under yaw and off-center *** analysis method and obtained results provide valuable references for assessing the dynamic responses of carrier-based aircraft during arresting process and offer valuable in-sights in the design of carrier-based aircraft.

As an essential concept to understand the world,whether the real values(or physical realities)of observables are suitable to physical systems beyond the classic has been debated for many *** standard nogo results based on Bell inequalities have ruled out the joint reality of incompatible quantum observables,the possibility of giving simple yet strong arguments to rule out joint reality in any physical system(not necessarily quantum)with weaker assumptions and less observables has been explored and proposed ***,we perform a device-independent experiment on a two-qubit superconducting system to show that the joint reality of two observables is incompatible with locality under the weaker assumption of the reality of observables in a single space-time region(or single qubit).Our results clearly show the violation of certain inequalities derived from both linear and nonlinear *** addition,we study the robustness of the linear and nonlinear criterion against the effect of systematic *** demonstration opens up the possibility of delineating classical and non-classical boundaries with simpler nontrivial quantum system.

This paper introduces a new method of calculating crown projection area(CPA),the area of level ground covered by a vertical projection of a tree crown from measured crown radii through numerical interpolation and *** novel method and other four existing methods of calculating CPA were compared using detailed crown radius measurements from 30 tall trees of Eucalyptus pilularis variable in crown size,shape,and *** four existing methods included the polygonal approach and three ways of calculating CPA as the area of a circle using the arithmetic,geometric and quadratic mean *** were made across a sequence of eight non-consecutive numbers(from 2 to 16)of measured crown radii for each tree over the range of crown asymmetry of the 30 trees through generalized linear models and multiple comparisons of *** sequence covered the range of the number of crown radii measured for calculating the CPA of a tree in the literature.A crown asymmetry index within the unit interval was calculated for each tree to serve as a normative *** a slight overestimation of 2.2%on average and an overall mean error size of 7.9%across the numbers of crown radii that were compared,our new method was the least biased and most *** CPA as a circle using the quadratic mean crown radius was the second best,which had an average overestimation of 4.5%and overall mean error size of 8.8%.These two methods remained by and large unbiased as crown asymmetry increased,while the other three methods showed larger bias of *** the conventional method of using the arithmetic mean crown radius to calculate CPA as a circle,bias correction factors were developed as a function of crown asymmetry index to delineate the increasing magnitude of bias associated with greater degrees of crown *** study reveals and demonstrates such relationships between the accuracy of CPA calculations and crown asymmetry and will help increase awa
