The ascendent theory that unifies the Earth Sciences is Plate Tectonics, a regime which is unique to Earth. Other convectively active, solid silicate bodies of our Solar System (Venus, Mars, and Io) are encased in a single deforming "lid";on these, multiple plates and hence plate motions do not exist [1]. As Earth’s tectonic plates are driven by the sinking of old and cold oceanic lithosphere at subduction zones, understanding how new subduction zones originate is vital for a complete plate tectonic theory. Proposed mechanisms of subduction initiation (SI) are controversial but can be either spontaneous, i.e., caused by forces originating at the SI site, or induced by ongoing plate motions [2].

Objective: To assess the relevant factors of prognosis and the proper treatment of recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Methods: From january 1983 to january 1997, 135 patients with recurrent HCC were analyzed in terms of host condition, tumor characteristics, and surgical procedures. Surgical treatments of these patients were compared. Results: Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) level>1000 μg/L in the initial operation, tumor size larger than 5 cm in diameter, tumor embolization in the portal veins, 0 surgical margin, and no chemoembolization before the operation were the main factors directly affecting the prognosis in a year after recurrence. Repeat hep- atectomy and liver transplantation were performed to obtain better results. Conclusions: Tumor characteristics and surgical treatment are the main factors affecting the prognosis after the recurrence of HCC. Liver transplantation plays an important role in patients with poor liver function or multi-recurrent sites.

Fuzzy-ball working fluids(FBWFs)have been successfully applied in different development phases of tight *** reports revealed that FBWFs satisfactorily met all the operational and reservoir damage control requirements during their ***,the damage-control mechanisms and degree of formation damage caused by fuzzy-ball fluids have not been investigated in lab-scale studies so *** this study,the degree of fuzzy-ball-induced damage in single-and double-layer reservoirs was evaluated through core flooding experiments that were based on permeability and flow rate ***,its damage mechanisms were observed via scanning electron microscope and energy-dispersive spectroscopy *** results show that:(1)For single-layer reservoirs,the FBWF induced weak damage on coals and medium-to-weak damage on sandstones,and the difference of the damage in permeability or flow rate index on coals and sandstones is below 1%.Moreover,the minimum permeability recovery rate was above 66%.(2)For double-layer commingled reservoirs,the flow rate index revealed weak damage and the overall damage in double-layer was lower than the single-layer reservoirs.(3)There is no significant alteration in the microscopic structure of fuzzy-ball saturated cores with no evidence of fines *** dissolution of lead and sulfur occurred in coal samples,while tellurium in sandstone,aluminum,and magnesium in ***,the precipitation of aluminum,magnesium,and sodium occurred in sandstone but no precipitates found in coal and *** temporal plugging and dispersion characteristics of the FBWFs enable the generation of reservoir protection layers that will minimize formation damage due to solid and fluid invasion.

The interaction of intense,ultrashort laser pulses with ordered nanostructure arrays offers a path to the efficient creation of ultra-high-energy density(UHED)matter and the generation of high-energy particles with compact *** of deuterated nanowires arrays results in a near-solid density environment with extremely high temperatures and large electromagnetic fields in which deuterons are accelerated to multi-megaelectronvolt energies,resulting in deuterium–deuterium(D–D)*** we focus on the method of fabrication and the characteristics of ordered arrays of deuterated polyethylene *** irradiation of these array targets with femtosecond pulses of relativistic intensity and joule-level energy creates a micro-scale fusion environment that produced 2×10^(6)neutrons per joule,an increase of about 500 times with respect to flat solid CD2 targets irradiated with the same laser *** with 8 j laser pulses was measured to generate up to 1.2×10^(7)D–D fusion neutrons per shot.

Low power consumption is a major issue in nowadays electronics systems. This trend is pushed by the development of data center related to cloud services and soon to the Internet of Things （IoT） deployment. Memories are one of the major contributors to power consumption. However, the development of emerging memory technologies paves the way to low-power design, through the partial replacement of the dynamic random access memory （DRAM） with the non-volatile stand-alone memory in servers or with the embedded or distributed emerging non-volatile memory in IoT objects. In the latter case, non-volatile flip-flops （NVFFs） seem a promising candidate to replace the retention latch. Indeed, IoT objects present long sleep time and NVFFs offer to save data in registers with zero power when the application is idle. This paper gives an overview of NVFF architecture flavors for various emerging memory technologies.

Traumatic brain injury has a complex pathophysiology that produces both rapid and delayed brain damage. Rapid damage initiates immediately after injury. Treatment of traumatic brain injury is typically delayed many hours, thus only delayed damage can be targeted with drugs. Delayed traumatic brain injury includes neuroinflammation, oxidative damage, apoptosis, and glutamate toxicity. Both the speed and complexity of traumatic brain injury pathophysiology present large obstacles to drug development. Repurposing of Food and Drug Administration-approved drugs may be a highly efficient approach to get therapeutics to the clinic. This review examines the preclinical outcomes of minocycline and N-acetylcysteine as individual drugs and compares them to the minocycline plus N-acetylcysteine combination. Both minocycline and N-acetylcysteine are Food and Drug Administration-approved drugs with pleiotropic therapeutic effects. As individual drugs, minocycline and N-acetylcysteine are well tolerated, with known pharmacokinetics, and enter the brain through an intact blood-brain barrier. At concentrations greater than needed for antimicrobial action, minocycline is a potent anti-inflammatory minocycline, also acts as an antioxidant and inhibits multiple enzymes that promote brain injury including metalloproteases, caspases, and polyADP-ribose-polymerase-1. N-acetylcysteine alone is also an antioxidant. It increases brain glutathione, prevents lipid oxidation, and protects mitochondria. N-acetylcysteine also acts as an anti-inflammatory as well as increases extracellular glutamate by activating the X;cystine-glutamate antitransporter. These multiple actions of minocycline and N-acetylcysteine have made them attractive candidates to treat traumatic brain injury. When first dosed within the one hour after injury, either minocycline or N-acetylcysteine improves a diverse set of therapeutic outcome measures in multiple traumatic brain injury animal models. The strength-ductility trade-offhas been a longstanding dilemma in metallic *** we report an innovative approach to achieve a high strength-ductility synergy via dual precipitation of sheared and bypassed precipitates.(Ni_(2) Co_(2) FeCr)_(96-x) Al_(4) Nb_(x)(at.%)alloys strengthened by nanoscale L12 particles and Laves precipitates were selected as a model for this study,and their precipitate microstructures and mechanical properties were thoroughly *** dual-precipitation-strengthened alloys exhibit a yield strength of more than 1400 MPa,an ultimate tensile strength of over 1800 MPa,and a uniform elon-gation of 18%,thus achieving a high strength-ductility *** analysis reveals that the nanoscale L1_(2) precipitates contribute to the strength via the particle shearing mechanism,whereas the Laves phase provides the strengthening through the Orowan bypass *** study of deformation microstruc-tures shows that the L1_(2) precipitates are sheared by stacking faults,which facilitates long-range disloca-tion gliding through the *** a result,deformation induces the formation of hierarchical stacking fault networks and immobile Lomer-Cottrell locks,which effectively enhance the work hardening ca-pability and plastic stability,thereby resulting in a high ductility at high strength *** are piled-up against the interface between the Laves precipitates and matrix,which increases the work hardening capability at the early stages of plastic deformation but causes stress *** dual precipitation strategy may be useful for many other alloys for achieving superior mechanical properties for technological applications.
