Context: Atherothrombosis is the leading cause of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality around the globe. To date, no single international database has characterized the atherosclerosis risk factor profile or treatment intensity of individuals with atherothrombosis. Objective: To determine whether atherosclerosis risk factor prevalence and treatment would demonstrate comparable patterns in many countries around the world. design, Setting, and Participants: The Reduction of Atherothrombosis for Continued Health(REACH) Registry collected data on atherosclerosis risk factors and treatment. A total of 67 888 patients aged 45 years or older from 5473 physician practices in 44 countries had either established arterial disease(coronary artery disease[CAd], n=40 258; cerebrovascular disease, n=18843; peripheral arterial disease, n=8273) or 3 or more risk factors for atherothrombosis(n=12 389) between 2003 and 2004. Main Outcome Measures: Baseline prevalence of atherosclerosis risk factors, medication use, and degree of risk factor control. Results: Atherothrombotic patients throughout the world had similar risk factor profiles: a high proportion with hypertension(81.8% ), hypercholesterolemia(72.4% ), and diabetes(44.3% ). The prevalence of overweight(39.8% ), obesity(26.6% ), and morbid obesity(3.6% ) were similar in most geographic locales, but was highest in North America(overweight: 37.1% , obese: 36.5% , and morbidly obese: 5.8% ; Plly undertreated with statins(69.4% overall; range: 56.4% for cerebrovascular disease to 76.2% for CAd), antiplatelet agents(78.6% overall; range: 53.9% for ≥ 3 risk factors to 85.6% for CAd), and other evidence-based risk reduction therapies. Current tobacco use in patients with established vascular disease was substantial(14.4% ). Efficacy of a diabetes Specific Nutritional Supplement (dSNS) on Glycemic Response in Prediabetic Ad.lts: A Two-Armed, Open-labelled Randomized Controlled Study

It is well known that diabetes Specific Nutritional Supplements (dSNSs) are linked to improved glycemic control in individuals with diabetes. However, data on efficacy of dSNSs in prediabetics is limited. This was a two-armed, open-labelled, randomized controlled six-week study on 199 prediabetics [30 - 65 years;Glycosylated Hemoglobin (HbA1c) 5.7% - 6.4% and/or Fasting Blood Glucose (FBG) 100-125 mg/dl]. Two parallel phases were conducted: Acute Blood Glucose Response (ABGR) and Intervention phase. Prediabetic participants were randomized into test (n = 100) and control (n = 99). The primary objective was to assess the ABGR of dSNS versus an isocaloric snack, measured by incremental Area under the Curve (iAUC). Test and control received 60 g of dSNS and 56 g of isocaloric snack (cornflakes) respectively, both in 250 ml double-toned milk on visit days 1, 15, 29 and 43. Postprandial Blood Glucose (PPG) was estimated at 30, 60, 90, 120, 150 and 180 minutes. during the 4 weeks intervention phase, the test group received dSNS with lifestyle counselling (dSNS + lC) and was compared with the control receiving lifestyle counselling alone (lC alone). Impact was studied on FBG, HbA1C, anthropometry, body composition, blood pressure, nutrient intake, and physical activity. The impact of dSNS was also studied using CGM between two 14-day phases: CGM1 baseline (days 1 - 14) and CGM2 endline (days 28 - 42). dSNS showed significantly lower PPG versus isocaloric snack at 30 (p 12, and chromium were reported by dSNS + lC versus lC alone. No other significant changes were reported between groups. It may be concluded that dSNS may be considered as a snack for prediabetic or hyperglycemic individuals requiring nutritional support for improved glycemic control.

Structural and mass transport properties of liquid ytterbium in the temperature range 1123 K–1473 K

We have studied the structural and atomic transport properties of liquid f-shell Yb in the temperature range 1123 K–1473 K. Pair interactions between atoms are derived using a local pseudopotential. The potential parameters are fitted to the phonon dispersion curve at room temperature. The local pseudopotential used in the present study is computationally more efficient with only three parameters, and it is found to be transferable to the liquid phase without changing the *** the various computed properties agree with reported theoretical and experimental findings, the adopted fitting scheme is justified. As a significant outcome of the study, we find that(i) the melting in Yb is governed by the lindemann's law,(ii)the mass transport mechanism obeys the Arrhenius law,(iii) the role of the three-particle correlation function in deriving the velocity autocorrelation function is small,(iv) the mean-square atomic displacement is more sensitive to the choice of interaction potential than the other bulk properties, and(v) liquid Yb does not show liquid.liquid phase transition within the studied temperature range. Further, due to the good description of the structural and mass transport properties, we propose that Yb remains divalent at reduced density.

Variation in Polyphenolics and Antioxidant Activity of Traditional Apple Cultivars from West Himalaya,Uttarakhand

Apple(Malus × domestica) is largely known for polyphenolic and antioxidant properties; however, systematic investigation in the apple growing in the Indian Himalayan region is not carried out. The present study therefore, attempts to quantify polyphenolics and antioxidant activities in three traditional apple cultivars namely 'Benoni', 'Fanny' and 'Rymer' growing at different locations of Uttarakhand(west Himalaya), *** revealed that phenolic(0.94–7.00 mg GAE·g^(-1)FW), flavonoid(1.02–9.86 mg QE·g^(-1)FW), flavonol(0.77–6.92 mg CE·g^(-1) FW), tannin(15.49–37.99 mg TAE·g^(-1) FW) and antioxidant activity(ABTS, 3.10–67.36; dPPH, 4.99–14.06; FRAP, 4.70–39.21 mmol AAE·kg^(-1)FW) varied significantly among the cultivars and maximum content was recorded in Rymer fruits of Mukhwa location. Altitude showed significant(P lationship with total phenolic(r = 0.895), flavonoid(r = 0.843), flavonol(r = 0.812), ABTS(r = 0.856) and FRAP activity(r = 0.830). Based on the results, it is concluded that among three cultivars, Rymer is one of the most promising sources of polyphenolic content and antioxidant activity and therefore, recommended for mass plantation at suitable locations in Uttarakhand for harnessing maximum potential.

Water dispersible silver nanoparticles（AgNps） were prepared using thiacalix[4]arene tetrahydrazide（TCTH） as a reducing and stabilizing ***-AgNps were characterized by surface plasmon resonance（SPR）,transmission electron microscopy（TEM） and energy dispersive X-ray（EdX）.Relatively uniform 20 nm spherical particles of TCTH-AgNps were efficiently formed over a pH range of 5-9 and from 10-40 ℃.The interaction behavior of TCTH-AgNps with different amino acids was investigated using spectrophotometry and *** the amino acids tested,only tryptophan and histidine showed fluorescence quenching and fluorescence enhancement,*** linear detection range by Stern-Volmer plot was 5 nmol/l to 0.48 μmol/l for tryptophan and 4 nmol/l to 0.54 μmol/l for ***-AgNps were able to effectively reduce the levels of gram-positive bacteria,gram-negative bacteria,and *** properties argue for the potential use of TCTH-AgNps as detectors of histidine and tryptophan and as antibiotics.

Optimization of Threshold Ranges for Rapid Flood Inundation Mapping by Evaluating Backscatter Profiles of High Incidence Angle SAR Images

Rapid satellite-based flood inundation mapping and d.livery of flood inundation maps during a flood event can provide crucial information for planners and decision makers to prioritize relief and rescue operations. The present study is undertaken to optimize the threshold ranges for the classification of flood water in Synthetic Aperture Radar(SAR) images(of 20° to 49° incidence angles) for quick flood inundation mapping and response during flood disasters. This is done through assessing the signature of flood water in Horizontal transmit and Horizontal received(HH), Horizontal transmit and Vertical received(HV), Vertical transmit and Horizontal received(VH), and Vertical transmit and Vertical received(VV) polarization radar data. The mean backscattering signature profiles of various water bodies were analyzed to discriminate flood water from other water bodies. The study shows that there is better demarcation of land-water surface in HH polarization. VV polarization has the potential to identify partially submerged features, which can be useful in flood damage assessments. The backscatter of flood water in HV and VH is the same and both HV and VH polarizations are adequate for the mapping of flood water. At near range to far range,-8 to-12 d B,-15 to-24 d B, and-6 to-15 d B can be used as optimum ranges for the classification of flood water in HH, HV, and VV polarizations. These optimum threshold ranges can be applied to the automation of flood mapping using SAR images in near-real time, where much time was often spent on finding the thresholds in order to produce flood inundation maps in a short time from the onset of flood disasters and d.liver such maps to the concerned agencies.

A catalyst-free new polyol method synthesized hot-pressed Cu-doped Bi2S3 nanorods and their thermoelectric properties

This is the first report on the thermoelectric properties of a catalyst-free polyol method used to prepare stoichiometric Bi2-xCuxS3 samples, x = 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, via hot pressing. Various systematic approaches to arrive at in their stoichiometric compositions are explored precisely with introduction of excess precursor of S. X-ray diffraction data analysis using Rietveld refinement confirms a polyhedral orthorhombic crystal structure with a space group Pnma, in contrast to Pbnm reported earlier. Raman data further substantiates this. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy confirms the valence states of the constituent elements （Bi^3＋, Cu^2＋, and S^2-） and energy dispersive X-ray analysis corroborates their compositions. The particle sizes of the pure Bi2S3 nanoparticles were 20, 35, and 82 nm as determined from the Scherrer formula, atomic force microscopy, and dynamic light scattering, respectively. Their transmission electron microscopy image shows rod.like nanostructures elongated in the 〈010〉 direction with an average diameter of 23 nm and a length of several hundreds of nanometers. A 34% improvement in the thermoelectric figure of merit is observed for Bi.6Cu0.4S3 as compared to pure Bi2S3 at 300 K.

Background.long-term outcomes for Medicare beneficiaries hospitalised with transient ischaemic attack(TIA)and role of ABCd^(2) score in identifying high-risk individuals are not *** We identified 40825 Medicare beneficiaries hospitalised from 2011 to 2014 for a TIA to a Get With The Guid.lines(GWTG)-Stroke hospital and classified them using ABCd^(2)s of mortality and rehospitalisation(all-cause,ischaemic stroke,haemorrhagic stroke,myocardial infarction,and gastrointestinal and intracranial haemorrhage)for high-risk versus low-risk groups adjusted for patient and hospital *** Of the 40825 patients,35118(86%)were high risk(ABCd^(2)≥4)and 5707(14%)were low risk(ABCd^(2)=0-3).Overall rate of mortality during 1-year follow-up after hospital discharge for the index TIA was 11.7%,44.3% were rehospitalised for any reason and 3.6%were readmitted due to *** with ABCd^(2) score≥4 had higher mortality at 1 year than not(adjusted HR 1.18,95%CI 1.07 to 1.30).Adjusted risks for ischaemic stroke,all-cause readmission and mortality/all-cause readmission at 1 year were also significantly higher for patients with ABCd^(2) score≥4 vs *** contrast,haemorrhagic stroke,myocardial infarction,gastrointestinal bleeding and intracranial haemorrhage risk were not significantly different by ABCd^(2) *** This study validates the use of ABCd^(2) score for long-term risk assessment after TIA in patients aged 65 years and *** efforts for community-based follow-up care after TIA are needed for ongoing prevention in Medicare beneficiaries who were hospitalised for TIA.

Characterization of Agro-diversity by Seed Storage Protein Electrophoresis:Focus on Rice Germplasm from Uttarakhand Himalaya,India

The characteristics of 48 rice varieties from Uttarakhand Himalaya, India were detected by morphological and biochemical markers. The grains of the selected rice varieties varied in their morphological （grain length, grain width and grain weight） and biochemical characters （sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, SdS-PAGE）. Based on the presence of 70, 65, 60, 57, 37-39, 22-23, 13 and 10 kda protein bands in the 48 rice varieties, seven types of profiles were identified. An unweighted pair group average method with arithmetic mean （UPGMA） dendrogram based on cluster analysis of genetic similarity of the protein bands showed two distinct groups with 1%-78% similarity coefficients. The presence of characteristic bands in selected varieties is a useful parameter for identification of rice germplasm.
