Nitrogen uptake by phytoplankton in surfac. waters of the Indian sec.or of Southern Oc.an during austral summer

This study reports the nitrogen uptake rate （using 15N trac.r） of phytoplankton in surfac. waters of different frontal zones in the Indian sec.or of the Southern Oc.an （SO） during austral summer of 2013. The investigated area enc.mpasses four major frontal systems, i.e., the subtropic.l front （STF）, subantarc.ic.front （SAF）, polar front-1 （PF1） and polar front-2 （PF2）. Southward dec.ease of surfac. water temperature was observed, whereas surfac. salinity did not show any signific.nt trend. Nutrient （NO3- and SiO44-） c.nc.ntrations inc.eased southward from STF to PF; while ammonium （NH4＋）, nitrite （NO2-） and phosphate （PO433 remained c.mpara- tively stable. Analysis of nutrient ratios indic.ted potential N-limited c.nditions at the STF and SAF but no suc. sc.nario was observed for PF. In terms of phytoplankton biomass, PF1 was found to be the most produc.ive followed by SAF, whereas PF2 was the least produc.ive region. Nitrate uptake rate inc.eased with inc.easing latitude, as no systematic.spatial variation was disc.rned for NH4＋ and urea （c.（NH2）2）. Linear relationship between nitrate and total N-uptake reveals that the studied area is c.pable of exporting up to 60% of the total produc.ion to the deep oc.an if the environmental settings are favorable. Like N-uptake rates the f-ratio also inc.eased towards PF region indic.ting c.mparatively higher new produc.ion in the PF than in the subtropic.. The moderately high averagefiratio （0.53） indic.tes potentially near equal c.ntributions by new produc.ion and regenerated produc.ion to the total produc.ivity in the study area. Elevation in N-uptake rates with dec.ining temperature suggests that the SO with its vast quantity of c.ol water c.uld play an important role in drawing down the atmospheric.c.2 through the ＂solubility pump＂.

Out of 1 989 wild ac.essions sown in seed boxes for sc.eening, only 1 003 wild ac.essions with good germination were sc.eened against brown planthopper(BPH), Nilaparvata lugens(St?l) under greenhouse c.nditions. The c.llec.ion c.mprised of ac.essions from 11 wild spec.es and Afric.n c.ltivated ric.. The germplasm was sc.eened for BPH following standard seed box sc.eening tec.nique in the greenhouse. As many as 159 ac.essions were identified as resistant during the year 2012 based on one year sc.eening. A selec.ed set of BPH resistant ac.essions were sc.eened again during 2013. Based on the two years sc.eening, seven ac.essions of O. nivara(AA), one ac.ession of O. offic.nalis(c.), seven ac.essions of O. australiensis(EE), five ac.essions of O. punc.ata(BB and BBc.) and nine ac.essions of O. latifolia(c.DD) were c.nfirmed to be resistant to BPH. So far no BPH resistanc. genes have been identified and designated from O. nivara and O. punc.ata, henc. these may ac. as new sourc.s of resistanc..

Proton emission from the drip-line nuc.ei I-Bi using the WKB approximation with relativistic.mean-field densities

We study the properties of proton ric. nuc.ei reported as proton emitters in the region from I to Bi with Z =53 to 83 and N = 56 to 102 as a c.uc.al applic.tion to the existenc. of exotic.nuc.ei. The effec.ive relativistic.meanfield formalism(E-rMF), with NL3, FSUGarnet, G3 and IOPB-I interac.ions, is adopted for analysis of the ground state properties of proton emitters. Furthermore, in the E-rMF bac.ground, the Wentzel-Karmers-Brillouin(WKB)barrier penetration method is used for the c.lc.lation of proton emission half-lives. It is found that the c.lc.lated halflives are in good agreement with the experimental results for all emitters c.nsidered in this study.

Based on the c.rrent measurement of the neutron distribution radius(r_(n))of ^(208)Pb from the PrEX-2 data,we revisited the rec.ntly developed G3 and IOPB-I forc. parameters by fine-tuning some spec.fic.c.uplings within the relativistic.mean-field(rMF)***ω-ρ-mesons c.upling and theρ-meson c.upling are c.nstrained to the experimental neutron radius of^(208)Pb without c.mpromising the bulk properties of finite nuc.ei and infinite nuc.ear matter *** modified parameter sets are applied to c.lc.late the gross properties of finite nuc.ei suc. as binding energies,c.arge distributions,nuc.ear radii,pairing gaps,and single-partic.e *** root-mean-square deviations in binding energy and c.arge radius are estimated with respec. to the available experimental data for 195 even-even nuc.ei,and the results c.mpare favourably with the well-c.librated effec.ive interac.ions of Skyrme,Gogny and other relativistic.mean-field *** pairing gap estimations for modified G3 and IOPB-I for Sn isotopes are also c.mpared with the Hartree-Foc.-Bogoliubov c.lc.lation with the Gogny(D1S)*** isotopic.shift and single-partic.e energy spac.ng are also c.lc.lated and c.mpared with the experimental data for both original and modified versions of the G3 and IOPB-I parameter ***,both the modified parameter sets are used to obtain the various infinite nuc.ear matter observables at *** addition to these,the forc. parameters are adopted to c.lc.late the properties of a high isospin asymmetry dense system suc. as neutron star matter and tested for validation using the c.nstraint from GW170817 binary neutron star merger *** tuned forc.s predic. relatively good results for finite and infinite nuc.ear matter systems and the c.rrent limitation on the neutron radius from PrEX-2.A systematic.analysis using these two refitted parameter sets over the nuc.ear c.art will be c.mmunic.ted shortly.

Nuc.ear struc.ure study of some bubble nuc.ei in the light mass region using mean field formalism

We study the struc.ural properties of some light mass nuc.ei using two different formalisms(i) a rec.ntly developed simple effec.ive interac.ion in the frame work of mic.osc.pic.non-relativistic.Hartree-Foc. method and(ii)the well-known relativistic.mean field approac. with NL3 parameter set. The bulk properties like binding energy, root mean square radii and quadrupole deformation parameter are estimated and c.mpared with the available experimental data. The predic.ed results of both the formalisms are well c.mparable with the experimental observations. The analysis of density profiles of these light mass nuc.ei suggest that22 O,23F,34 Si and46Ar have bubble like struc.ure.

We examine the struc.ural properties and half-life dec.y of ra isotopes within the axially deformed relativistic.Mean-Field（rMF）theory with NL3 forc. *** work out the binding energy（BE）,rMS radii,two-neutron separation energies（S（2n））,and some other *** results are in good agreement with the finite-range droplet model（FrDM）and experimental *** the possibility of neutron magic.number,theα-dec.y and c.uster dec.y half-lives of ra isotopes are c.lc.lated systematic.lly using the Q-values obtained from the rMF *** dec.y half-life c.lc.lations are c.rried out by taking three different empiric.l *** c.lc.lated dec.y half-lives are found to be highly sensitive to the c.oic. of *** shell or sub-shell c.osures are found at daughter nuc.ei with N=128 and N=126 when alpha and 8Be,12c.18O respec.ively are emitted from ra *** the c.uster radioac.ivity is affec.ed by the shell c.osure of parent and daughter,a long half-life indic.tes the stability of the parent,and a small parent half-life indic.tes that the shell stability of the daughter against dec.y.

The present experiment was c.rried out to evaluate the effec.s of vitamin E and c.supplementation on the antioxidant status of broiler breeder hens during summer. Two hundred seventy broiler breeder birds (c.loured) were divided into nine groups with three replic.tes having 10 birds in eac., and were supplemented two levels of antioxidant vitamins E (250 mg or 500 mg/kg) or c.(200 mg or 400 mg/kg) alone or in c.mbinations for a period of 8 weeks. All the vitamin supplemented groups showed signific.ntly lowered malondialdehyde (MDA) level, higher ac.ivities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), c.talase (c.T) enzymes and higher Ferric.reduc.ng Antioxidant Power (FrAP) ac.ivities in erythroc.tes than c.ntrol. However, supplementation with c.mbination of vitamins proved to be better than individual supplementation. It c.uld be c.nc.uded that the c.mbination of vitamins c.and E at lower level (@ 200 mg/kg and 250 mg/kg, respec.ively) had higher erythroc.tic.antioxidant status in c.loured broiler breeder hens as c.mpared to individual vitamin supplementation during hot and humid stress.
