the ability to overcome the negative effects,induced by obstacles and turbulent atmosphere,is a core challenge of long-distance information transmission,and it is of great significance in free-space optical *** spatial-coherence structure,that characterizes partially coherent fields,provides a new degree of freedom for carrying ***,due to the influence of the complex transmission environment,the spatial-coherence structure is severely damaged during the propagation path,which undoubtedly limits its ability to transmit ***,we realize the robust far-field orbital angular momentum(OAM)transmission and detection by modulating the spatial-coherence structure of a partially coherent vortex beam with the help of the *** cross-phase enables the OAM information,quantified by the topological charge,hidden in the spatial-coherence structure can be stably transmitted to the far field and can resist the influence of obstructions and turbulence within the communication *** is due to the self-reconstruction property of the spatial-coherence structure embedded with the *** demonstrate experimentally that the topological charge information can be recognized well by measuring the spatial-coherence structure in the far field,exhibiting a set of distinct and separated dark rings even under amplitude and phase *** findings open a door for robust optical signal transmission through the complex environment and may find application in optical communication through a turbulent atmosphere.

Background Despite the increasing focus on strengthening One Health capacity building on global level, challenges remain in devising and implementing real-world interventions particularly in the Asia-Pacific region. Recognizing these gaps, the One Health Action Commission (OHAC) was established as an academic community for One Health action with an emphasis on research agenda setting to identify actions for highest *** text this viewpoint describes the agenda of, and motivation for, the recently formed OHAC. long-wave infrared(lWIR, 8–14 μm) photonics is a rapidly growing research field within the mid-IR with applications in molecular spectroscopy and optical free-space communication. lWIR applications are often addressed using rather bulky tabletop-sized free-space optical systems, preventing advanced photonic applications,such as rapid-time-scale experiments. Here, device miniaturization into photonic integrated circuits(PICs) with maintained optical capabilities is key to revolutionize mid-IR photonics. Subwavelength mode confinement in plasmonic structures enabled such miniaturization approaches in the visible-to-near-IR spectral range. However,adopting plasmonics for the lWIR needs suitable low-loss and-dispersion materials with compatible integration strategies to existing mid-IR technology. In this paper, we further unlock the field of lWIR/mid-IR PICs by combining photolithographic patterning of organic polymers with dielectric-loaded surface plasmon polariton(DlSPP) waveguides. In particular, polyethylene shows favorable optical properties, including low refractive index and broad transparency between ~2 μm and 200 μm. We investigate the whole value chain, including design, fabrication, and characterization of polyethylene-based DlSPP waveguides and demonstrate their first-time plasmonic operation and mode guiding capabilities along S-bend structures. low bending losses of ~1.3 d B and straight-section propagation lengths of ~1 mm, pave the way for unprecedented complex on-chip mid-IR photonic devices. Moreover, DlSPPs allow full control of the mode parameters(propagation length and guiding capabilities) for precisely addressing advanced sensing and telecommunication applications with chip-scale devices.

Aims Many resistance genes against fungal pathogens show costs of *** modified(GM)plants that differ in only one or a few resistance genes from control plants present ideal systems for measuring these costs in the absence of *** to assess the ecological relevance of costs of pathogen resistance,we grew individual plants of four transgenic spring wheat lines in a field trial with three pathogen levels and varied the genetic diversity of the *** Findings We found that two lines with a Pm3b transgene were more resistant to powdery mildew than their sister lines of the variety Bobwhite,whereas lines with chitinase(A9)or chitinase and glucanase(A13)transgenes were not more resistant than their mother variety ***,in the absence of the pathogen,both the GM lines of Bobwhite as well as those of Frisal performed significantly worse than their controls,***3b#1 and Pm3b#2 had 39%or 53%and A9 and A13 had 14%or 23%lower *** the presence of the pathogen,all GM lines except Pm3b#2 could increase their yields and other fitness-related traits,reaching the performance levels of the control *** Pm3b#2 seemed to have lost its phenotypic plasticity and had low performance in all *** may have been caused by very high transgene *** synergistic effects of mixing different GM lines with each other were *** might have been due to high transgene expression or the similarity between the lines regarding their resistance *** conclude that costs of resistance can be high for transgenic plants with constitutive transgene expression and that this can occur even in cases where the non-transgenic control lines are already relatively resistant,such as in our variety *** plants could only compete with conventional varieties in environments with high pathogen ***,the large variability among the GM lines,which may be due to unpredictable transgene expression,su

Foraminifera are highly diverse and have a long evolutionary *** key bioindicators,their phylogenetic schemes are of great importance for paleogeographic applications,but may be hard to recognize *** phylogenetic relationships within the prominent genus Amphistegina are still *** studies on Amphistegina have so far only focused on genetic diversity within single species and suggested a cryptic diversity that demands for further *** molecular sequencing-based approaches,different mass spectrometry-based proteomics approaches are increasingly used to give insights into the relationship between samples and organisms,especially as these do not require reference *** better understand the relationship of amphisteginids and test different proteomics-based approaches we applied de novo peptide sequencing and similarity clustering to several populations of Amphistegina lobifera,*** and *** also analyzed the dominant photosymbiont community to study their influence on holobiont *** analyses indicate that especially de novo peptide sequencing allows to reconstruct the relationship among foraminiferal holobionts,although the detected separation of *** from *** and *** may be partly influenced by their different photosymbiont *** resulting dendrograms reflect the separation in two lineages previously suggested and provide a basis for future studies.

Owing to the demographic development, the aging male will require more consideration in future. In contrast to arapid decline of estradiol during menopause in women, the process of aging in the male is retarded and subject to highindividual variations. Impairment of spermatogenesis is observed as a continuous process occurring over decades. How-ever, only about 50% of men in their eighties show complete loss of fertility. In principle, spermatogenesis may be re-tained well into senescence. Of importance for the individual health condition is the fact that the number of leydig cellsdeclines with advancing age. thus, altered sex hormone concentrations in aging men result from both functional distur-bances and a gradual reduction in leydig cells. Furthermore, an impaired feed-back mechanism of the pituitary-gonadalaxis occurs, with disappearance of the circadian testosterone (t) rhythm. lH and FSH levels are increased, and a re-duced bioavailability of sex hormones is observed. lower total testosterone concentrations in men over 60 years are ac-companied by clinical signs of reduced virility, such as decreased muscle mass and strength as well as reduced sexualhair growth and libido. An age-related decline in androgen secretion and plasma testosterone levels therefore suggeststhe use of androgen supplementation. However, there is a lack of risk-benefit long-term studies. Increased research inthe male is mandatory to meet the requirements of the aging population. this should include the availability of preciseepidemiological data about the frequency of partial androgen deficiency in aging males (PADAM).(Asian J Androl 2001 Mar; 3: 1-7)

Background:Higher exportation of harvest residues from forests due to increased demand for woody biomass,has reportedly diminished soil mineral resources and may lead to degraded tree nutrition as well as ***,as nutrients become less available in the soil,the remobilization of nutrients in biomass tissues(plant internal cycling)helps sustain tree *** study aims to quantify the impact of Removing Harvest Residues and litter(RHRl)during five years on tree growth,wood density,and stem wood nutrient concentrations in young beech and oak forest ***:Our study found that,RHRl significantly decreased tree growth ring width by 14%,and wood density by 3%,in beech trees,in near bark *** also significantly reduced nutrient concentration in near bark and near pith areas of both studied ***,Na and S were found lower by 44%,76%,and 56%,respectively,in near bark area of beech *** near bark area of oak trees,K,Ca,Mg,Na,S,and Fe were lower by 20%,25%,41%,48%,41%,and 16%,respectively.K and Mg concentrations decreased more strongly in near pith area compared to near bark area suggesting internal translocation of these two ***:In beech trees,wood density proved to be an important factor while quantifying the effect of removing harvest residuals on tree growth and *** nutrient loss intensified the remobilization of nutrients con-tained in older tree rings(close to the pith)towards newly formed rings(close to bark).In our study,in beech trees,K was found to be the most recycled major *** results demonstrate the potential of such analysis for providing valuable insight into the effect of RHRl in premature stands on the physiological adaptive strategies of trees and an indication of soil fertility status.
