Cardiovascular diseases in general and atherothrombosis as the most common of its individualdisease entities is the leading cause of death in the developed ***,visualizationand characterization of inner arterial plaque composition is of vital diagnostic interest,especilly for the early recognition of vulnerable *** clinical techniques provide valuablemorphological information but cannot deliver information about the chemicai composition ofindividual ***,spectroscopic imaging techniques have recently drawn consider-able *** on the spectroscopic properties of the individual plaque components,as forinstance diferent types of lipids,the composition of atherosclerotic plaques can be analyzedqualitatively as well as ***,we compare the feasibility of multimodal nonlinearimaging combining,two-photon fluorescence(TPF),coherent anti-Stokes raman scatering(CArS)and second-hamonic generation(SHG)microscopy to contrast composition and mor-phology of lipid deposits against the surrounding matrix of connective tissue with diffractionlimited spatial *** this contribution,the spatial distribution of major constituents of the arterial wall and atherosclerotic plaques like elastin,collagen,triglycerides and cholesterol can be simultaneously visualized by a combination of nonlinear imaging methods,providing a powerful label-free complement to standard histopathological methods with great potential forin vivo application.

Event segmentation in ADHD:neglect of social information and deviant theta activity point to a mechanism underlying ADHD

Background Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder(ADHD)is one of the most frequently diagnosed psychiatric conditions in children and *** the symptoms appear to be well described,no coherent conceptual mechanistic framework integrates their occurrence and variance and the associated problems that people with ADHD *** The current study proposes that altered event segmentation processes provide a novel mechanistic framework for understanding deficits in *** Adolescents with ADHD and neurotypically developing(NT)peers watched a short movie and were then asked to indicate the boundaries between meaningful segments of the *** recorded electroencephalography(EEG)data were analysed for differences in frequency band activity and effective connectivity between brain *** Compared with their NT peers,the ADHD group showed less dependence of their segmentation behaviour on social information,indicating that they did not consider social information to the same extent as their unaffected *** divergence was accompanied by differences in EEG theta band activity and a different effective connectivity network architecture at the source ***,NT adolescents primarily showed error signalling in and between the left and right fusiform gyri related to social information processing,which was not the case in the ADHD *** the ADHD group,the inferior frontal cortex associated with attentional sampling served as a hub instead,indicating problems in the deployment of attentional *** This study shows that adolescents with ADHD perceive events differently from their NT peers,in association with a different brain network architecture that reflects less adaptation to the situation and problems in attentional sampling of environmental *** results call for a novel conceptual view of ADHD,based on event segmentation theory.

The ability to overcome the negative effects,induced by obstacles and turbulent atmosphere,is a core challenge of long-distance information transmission,and it is of great significance in free-space optical *** spatial-coherence structure,that characterizes partially coherent fields,provides a new degree of freedom for carrying ***,due to the influence of the complex transmission environment,the spatial-coherence structure is severely damaged during the propagation path,which undoubtedly limits its ability to transmit ***,we realize the robust far-field orbital angular momentum(OAM)transmission and detection by modulating the spatial-coherence structure of a partially coherent vortex beam with the help of the *** cross-phase enables the OAM information,quantified by the topological charge,hidden in the spatial-coherence structure can be stably transmitted to the far field and can resist the influence of obstructions and turbulence within the communication *** is due to the self-reconstruction property of the spatial-coherence structure embedded with the *** demonstrate experimentally that the topological charge information can be recognized well by measuring the spatial-coherence structure in the far field,exhibiting a set of distinct and separated dark rings even under amplitude and phase *** findings open a door for robust optical signal transmission through the complex environment and may find application in optical communication through a turbulent atmosphere.

Quantifying Kinematic Tremor in an NGLY1-Deficient Individual: A Case Study

NGLY1 Deficiency is an autosomal recessive congenital disorder that has been identified in less than 100 individuals. Most individuals with NGLY1 Deficiency display hyperkinetic movement disorders, including choreiform, athetoid, dystonic myoclonic, dyskinetic, and dysmetric movements. Developing a consistent and concise consensus on the classification and evaluation of tremors is essential to forward the research and treatment of tremors. It has also been reported that some individuals with NGLY1 Deficiency demonstrate tremor, but such tremor has never been formally investigated. The primary objective of this study is to determine if an individual with NGLY1 Deficiency demonstrates an identifiable tremor during a series of arm movements and, if so, describe the frequency and power characteristics of that tremor. Arm movement kinematics were obtained using a 16-camera Vicon system, and time series trajectory waveforms for three planes of a marker placed on the hand were developed. Custom MATLAB scripts were utilized to compute Fast Fourier Transformations of the data within the identified waveform segments. A mean frequency of 2.30 Hz (SD = 1.05) with a mean power of 5.02 |P1(f)| (SD = 4.63) suggests that our participant’s kinematic data did display a persistent tremor in both hands across all tasks and movement planes. Analyses of the reaching hand and the non-reaching hand suggest the participant displayed an action tremor in both postural and intention (kinetic) tremors. Future directions should include assessing additional individuals with NGLY1 Deficiency to determine if the tremor is a distinguishable disorder behavior. Additionally, evaluating other anatomical sites, such as the elbow, head, and lower limbs, would provide further insights into the characteristics of this tremor.

NGLY1 Deficiency is an ultra-rare autosomal recessively inherited disorder. Characteristic symptoms include among others, developmental delays, movement disorders, liver function abnormalities, seizures, and problems with tear formation. Movements are hyperkinetic and may include dysmetric, choreo-athetoid, myoclonic and dystonic movement elements. To date, there have been no quantitative reports describing arm movements of individuals with NGLY1 Deficiency. This report provides quantitative information about a series of arm movements performed by an individual with NGLY1 Deficiency and an aged-matched neurotypical participant. Three categories of arm movements were tested: 1) open ended reaches without specific end point targets;2) goal-directed reaches that included grasping an object;3) picking up small objects from a table placed in front of the participants. Arm movement kinematics were obtained with a camera-based motion analysis system and “initiation” and “maintenance” phases were identified for each movement. The combination of the two phases was labeled as a “complete” movement. Three-dimensional analysis techniques were used to quantify the movements and included hand trajectory pathlength, joint motion area, as well as hand trajectory and joint jerk cost. These techniques were required to fully characterize the movements because the NGLY1 individual was unable to perform movements only in the primary plane of progression instead producing motion across all three planes of movement. The individual with NGLY1 Deficiency was unable to pick up objects from a table or effectively complete movements requiring crossing the midline. The successfully completed movements were analyzed using the above techniques and the results of the two participants were compared statistically. Modelselection,adaptation,and combination for transfer learning in wind and photovoltaic power forecasts
