AIM：To investigate the cytotoxic effects of spray-dried extracts of Phyllanthus niruri in combination with cis- platin on two cancer cell lines. METHODS： Colorectal carcinoma （HT29） and human hepatocellular carcinoma （HepG2） cells were treated with spray-dried extracts of Phyllanthus niruri （SdePN） either alone or in combination with cisplatin at differ- ent concentrations （0.5 mg/mL and 1 mg/mL） for 4 h and 24 h. To verify and quantify cancer cells treated with these products as well as identify the cell cycle stage and cell viability, we stained the cells with prop- idium iodide and assessed them by flow cytometry. The percentage of cells in different cell cycle phases was quantified and data were expressed as histo- grams. Significant differences between groups were determined using analysis of variance and Bonferroni＇s test, as indicated. A value of P 〈 0.05 was considered to be statistically significant. RESULTS： SdePN had significantly different cyto- toxic effects on HT29 （2.81 4- 0.11 vs 3.51 4- 1.13, P 〉 0.05） and HepG2 （5.07± 0.3 vs 15.9 ± 1.04, P 〈 0.001） cells when compared to control cells for 4 h. SdePN also had significantly different cytotoxic effects on HT29 （1.91 ± 0.57 vs 4.53± 1.22, P 〉 0.05） and HepG2 （14.56 ± 1.6 vs 35.67 ± 3.94, P 〈 0.001） cells when compared to control cells for 24 h. Both cell lines were killed by cisplatin in a dose-dependent manner compared to control cells （HepG2 cells for 4 h： 10.78 ± 1.58 vs 53.89 ± 1.53, P 〈 0.001; 24 h： 8.9 ± 1.43 vs 62.78 ± 1.87, P 〈 0.001 and HT29 cells for 4 h： 9.52 ±0.913 vs 49.86 ± 2.89, P 〈 0.001; 24 h： 11.78 ± 1.05 vs 53.34 ± 2.65, P 〈 0.001）. In HT29 cells, pretreat- ment with SdePN and subsequent treatment with cis-platin resulted in a greater number of cells being killed （12.78 ± 1.01 vs 93.76 ± 1.6, P 〈 0.001）. HepG2 cells showed significant cell killing with treatment with SdePN when combined with cisplatin （12.87 ± 2.78 vs 78.8 ± 3.02, P 〈 0.001）. CONCLUSION： SdePN is selectively toxic ag

The concept of quality of life is multiple concerns as a cultural, social and environmental individuality. The aim of this study was to verify the levels of quality of life in elderly practitioners of physical activity comparing a active group with a control group The sample consisted of 159 physically independent and apparently healthy individuals of either sex, with mean age of 66.61 ± 4.73 years. Active group obtained mean 14.32 ± 0.763 in whoqol’s scores for levels of quality of life, the Control group (CG) obtained mean 13.31 ± 0.94 and p-value 0.05. The ANOVA with repeated samples showed higher values for active group when compared with control group after intervention, the significant level was p < 0.05. It must be recognized that not every aspect of human life is reduced to the practice of physical activity;however, it is an important instrument that generates well-being in this age group.

Background Congenital heart diseases(CHD)are the most common type of birth defects,affecting millions of newborns every year;no prevalence data are available in S?o Paulo State,Brazil's most populous *** objective is to identify trends in prevalence and risk factors for CHD in Sao Paulo State,*** We developed a population-based study to estimate the CHD trend of prevalence in recent years,stratified by maternal age and geographical clusters,using all cases of CHD identified by the Live Births Information System(SINASC-Sistema de Informa??o Sobre Nascidos Vivos)from January 1,2005,to december 31,*** calculated the trends of prevalence,the regression coefficient(β),the annual percent change(APC),and 95%confidence interval using the Prais-Winsten regression model,with the Durbin-Watson *** We found 10,594 cases of CHD among 8,536,101 live births(LB),a prevalence of 12.4/10,000 *** was no difference in the sex distribution;they are primarily Caucasian(60.2%),75.2%born at term,and 74.4%weight>2500 g,66.9%of births were by cesarean section.S?o Paulo State presented an increasing CHD trend of prevalence(APC=18.9%).The highest CHD prevalence rate was in mothers aged≥35 years(22.2/10,000 LB).There were 12,271 specific congenital heart defects among 10,594 patients(1.16 CHD/patient).Atrial septal defect has the highest number of cases(3835),with a prevalence of 4.49/10,000 LB,corresponding to 31.3%of all *** CHD had an increasing prevalence trend in recent years,being highest in S?o Paulo City and≥35-year mothers.

This study aimed to analyze the mechanical properties of the compound FeCuC when compacted at varying pressures and sintered in two different types of furnaces. Besides the different models of furnace, the working atmospheres were varied： one is being composed with argon gas and another constituted with a balancing nitrogen and hydrogen. Atmospheres vary with the amount of production and the type of equipment used. The compound generated is used in the manufacture of rings for mechanical seals and is currently manufactured by the sintering process in passing furnace. The sintering was performed in a static furnace with argon atmosphere and compared with the same compound sintered in passage furnace with hydrogen and nitrogen atmosphere. The analysis of the properties of the tested material was performed with the aid of metallography using a scanning electron microscope, which verified the particle size distribution, chemical elements and pores present. Brinell hardness and Vickers micro hardness tests were also used to analyze the properties of this material after completion of the two processes. Thus, the research carried out has shown that variations may occur in the mechanical properties when processed in different furnace types and different sintering atmospheres.

Glyphosate is a herbicide that has been widely used worldwide and is used in agricultural areas to control weeds and unwanted *** sensors developed from different nanomaterials have high efficiency,excellent cost-benefit,and fast analysis time for detecting traces of environmental *** study aimed to produce an electrochemical sensor with disposable screen-printed electrodes based on carbon black modified with niobium nanoparticles to determine glyphosate in aqueous *** morphology,structure and electrochemical performance of the sensor were characterized by scanning electron microscopy,energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy,X-ray diffraction and cyclic *** pulse voltammetry in BR buffer solution at pH 5.0 allowed the generation of a method to quantify glyphosate concentration in a linear range of 5.90-172.30μmol/L(1.00-29.13μg/mL),with a limit of detection calculated at 3.07μmol/L(0.52μg/mL).The method efficiently quantified glyphosate in real water samples and showed no interference from K^(+),Na^(+),Ca^(2+),Mg^(2+)ions or thiamethoxam,imidacloprid and carbendazim pesticides.

Clinopyroxene-enriched upper mantle xenoliths classified as wehrlites are common(~20% of all xenoliths) in the central part of the Nograd-G(o| ")m(o|")r Volcanic Field(NGVF),situated in the northern margin of the Pannonian Basin in northern Hungary and southern *** this study,we thoroughly investigated 12 wehrlite xenoliths,two from each wehrlite-bearing occurrence,to determine the conditions of their *** textural features,including clinopyroxene-rich patches in an olivine-rich lithology,orthopyroxene remnants in the cores of newlyformed clinopyroxenes and vermicular spinel forms all suggest that wehrlites were formed as a result of intensive interaction between a metasomatic agent and the peridotite wall *** on the major and trace element geochemistry of the rock-forming minerals,significant enrichment in basaltic(Fe,Mn,Ti) and high field strength elements(Nb,Ta,Hf,Zr) was observed,compared to compositions of common lherzolite *** presence of orthopyroxene remnants and geochemical trends in rock-forming minerals suggest that the metasomatic process ceased before complete wehrlitization was *** composition of the metasomatic agent is interpreted to be a mafic silicate melt,which was further confirmed by numerical modelling of trace elements using the plate *** model results also show that the melt/rock ratio played a key role in the degree of petrographic and geochemical *** lack of equilibrium and the conclusions drawn by using variable lherzolitic precursors in the model both suggest that wehrlitization was the last event that occurred shortly before xenolith entrainment in the host mafic *** suggest that the wehrlitization and the Plio-Pleistocene basaltic volcanism are related to the same magmatic event.

Background:Anomalous aortic origin of a coronary artery(AAOCA)is a congenital heart disease with a 0.3%−0.5%*** is challenging due to nonspecific clinical *** stratification and treatment are currently based on expert consensus and single-center case ***:demographical and clinical data of AAOCA patients from 17 tertiary-care centers were *** imaging studies(Bidimensional echocardiography,coronary computed tomography angiography[CCTA]were *** correlations with anomalous coronary course and origin were ***:Data from 239 patients(42%males,mean age 15 y)affected by AAOCA were collected;154 had AAOCA involving the right coronary artery(AAORCA),62 the left(AAOLCA),23 other anomalies.211(88%)presented with an inter-arterial *** electrocardiogram(ECG)was abnormal in 37(16%).AAOCA was detected by transthoracic echocardiography and CCTA in 53%and 92%of patients,*** of the patients reported cardiac symptoms(119/239;50%),mostly during exercise in 121/178(68%).An ischemic response was demonstrated in 37/106(35%)and 16/31(52%)of patients undergoing ECG stress test and stress-rest single positron emission cardiac *** with AAORCA,patients with AAOLCA presented more frequently with syncope(18%vs.5%,P=0.002),in particular when associated with inter-arterial course(22%vs.5%,P<0.001).Conclusion:Diagnosis of AAOCA is a clinical challenge due to nonspecific clinical presentations and low sensitivity of first-line cardiac screening *** seems to be strictly correlated to AAOLCA with inter-arterial course.
