Optimization of Tin-Doped Hybrid Perovskite Solar Cells

Perovskites are a category of materials with a unique crystal structure that allows them to absorb sunlight efficiently. This efficiency is particularly high in the case of CH3NH3Pb1-xSnxI3 mixed perovskites. The combination of lead (Pb) and tin (Sn) in this matrix provides a broad spectrum of sunlight absorption, enabling the generation of a larger voltage and, subsequently, increased power. The primary objective in solar cell development is to maximize the conversion of sunlight into electricity. Mixed perovskites like CH3NH3Pb1-xSnxI3 have demonstrated significant potential in this regard. Their tunable bandgap, courtesy of varying the Pb: Sn ratio, allows for the optimization of sunlight absorption. The result is solar cells that surpass many conventional counterparts in terms of energy efficiency. Another significant advantage of these mixed perovskite solar cells is their cost-effectiveness. They can be manufactured using solution-based processes, which are less expensive than the high-vacuum methods required for traditional silicon solar cells. While the prospects for mixed perovskite solar cells are undeniably promising, there are concerns about the toxicity of lead, a key component of these cells. Lead is known to have harmful effects on the environment and health. The aim of our work is to reduce or eliminate lead toxicity in the perovskite cell while maintaining its efficiency. Thus, in a theoretical and experimental approach, we obtained following efficiencies of samples: CH3NH3PbI3 (22.49%) CH3NH3Pb0.75Sn0.25I3 (22.72%), CH3NH3Pb0.5Sn0.5I3 (23.00%) CH3NH3Pb0.25Sn0.75I3 (22.61%), CH3NH3SnI3 (22.38%). In this work,high quality uniform and dense nanostructured cobalt-doped zinc oxide(ZnO:Co)films were used as electron-transport layers in CH3NH3Pbl3-based planar heterojunction perovskite solar cells(PSCs)on a flexible conductive *** photo catalytically active ZnO:Co films were prepared by a low cost hydrothermal process using the aqueous solution of zinc nitrate hexahydrate,hexamethylenete-tramine and cobalt(II)nitrate ***:Co films were deposited on indium tin oxide(ITO)covered polyethylene terephthalate(PET)flexible *** growth was controlled by maintaining the autoclave temperature at 150℃for 4 *** CH3NH3Pbl3 layer was deposited on the ZnO:Co films by spin ***-OMeTAD was employed as a hole-transporting *** structural,morphology and optical properties of the grown ZnO nanostructures were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD),field-emission scanning electron microcopy(FESEM),energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometry(EDX),ultraviolet-visible(UV-Vis)and photoelectrochemical *** spectra showed that both ZnO and ZnO:Co nanorods had a hexagonal wurtzite structure with a strong preferred orientation along the(002)*** surface morphology of films was studied by FESEM and showed that both the pure and Co-doped ZnO films had hexagonal shaped *** the steady state,the ZnO electrode gave a photocurrent density of about 1.5 mA/***,the Co-doped ZnO electrode showed a photocurrent density of about 6 mA/cm^2,which is 4-fold higher than that of the ZnO *** on the above synthesized Co-doped ZnO films,the photovoltaic performance of PSCs was *** Co-doped ZnO layers had a significant impact on the photovoltaic conversion efficiency(PCE)of the *** latter was attributed to an efficient charge separation and transport due to the better coverage of perovskite on the nanostructured Co-doped ZnO *** a result,the measured PCE under standard solar conditions(A M 1.5G,100 mW/cm^2)r

In the global context of diversification of usable energy sources, the use of renewable energies, in particular solar photovoltaic energy, is becoming increasingly important. As such, the development of a new generation of photovoltaic cells based on the CIGS material is promising. Indeed, the efficiency of these cells has exceeded 20% in recent years. Thus, our work consists in the modeling of a tandem solar cell based on Cu(In,Ga)Se2 (CGS/CIGS). The goal is to optimize its physical and geometrical parameters in order to obtain a better photovoltaic conversion efficiency compared to other research works on tandem in the past. We used AMPS-1D software for the simulation. When we realize the tandem, the least efficient cell (CGS) imposes the current and the shape of the J-V characteristic of the tandem. We obtained a theoretical efficiency of 39.30% which is significantly higher than the efficiencies obtained in the past by other researchers with a short circuit current of 34.60 mA/cm2, an open circuit voltage of 1.74 V and a form factor of 65.20%. The simulation also showed that the high defect density in the material strongly impacts the performance of the tandem.

The Digitization of Public Services and Its Contribution to the Quality of Service in Relation to User Satisfaction

In recent years, some governments have been working on solutions to transform public administrations and provide high-quality services to users. The United Nations has recommended integrating digital technology into various aspects of life, including public services. The objective is to offer real-time, high-quality digital services, improve the delivery of public services, enhance their effectiveness and efficiency, while achieving objectives such as transparency, interoperability and citizen satisfaction. However, most governments in developing countries are unable to keep up with this trend. As a result, they often create digital public services that fall short of users’ expectations. This study aims to identify the fundamental factors influencing the quality of service in relation to user satisfaction and to explore the relevance of digital technology in implementing this quality within Cameroon public administrations. To achieve this, we used a qualimetric research method, which included non-directive interviews, questionnaires, and structured observations. The results showed that the public services offered in our study environment did not meet users’ expectations. However, the study identified the fundamental aspects to be considered in providing quality public services connected to user satisfaction, as well as the strengths of digitization in achieving this quality.

Modeling and Simulation of an Organic Photovoltaic Cell: ITO/MoO3/CARAPA/PCBM/Alq3/Al with SCAPS

Renewable energies are of major interest due to their inexhaustible and clean nature, with minimal impact on the environment. Numerous technological pathways exist in this field, each distinguished by the materials used and their implementation principles. However, the cost-efficiency ratio remains a significant challenge for researchers. Currently, organic materials are gaining popularity due to their relatively low cost. However, their performance, particularly in terms of conversion efficiency, still requires improvements. This study focuses on optimizing the organic photovoltaic cell ITO/MoO3/CARAPA/PCBM/Alq3/Al using SCAPS. Several parameters were considered, such as layer thickness, recombination center density, and doping, to improve the cell’s performance. The optimal parameters obtained include an efficiency of 3%, a fill factor of 81.67%, an open-circuit voltage of 1610 mV, and a short-circuit current of 2.28 mA/cm2. The study also revealed that doping the phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) layer has a significant impact on efficiency and short-circuit current, improving these parameters up to a certain point before causing degradation due to increased recombination. Furthermore, high doping of the tri (8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminum (Alq3) layer improves performance up to a critical threshold, after which degradation is also observed. In contrast, doping the molybdenum trioxide (MoO3) layer does not have a notable impact on cell performance. Regarding the thickness of the active Carapaprocera (CARAPA) and PCBM layers, non-optimal values lead to a decrease in performance. Similarly, an optimal thickness of the Alq3 layer significantly improves efficiency. These results highlight the importance of parameter optimization to maximize the efficiency of organic solar cells.

Alkali and Plasma-Treated Guadua angustifolia Bamboo Fibers: A Study on Reinforcement Potential for Polymeric Matrices

This study focuses on treating Guadua angustifolia bamboo fibers to enhance their properties for reinforcement applications in composite materials. Chemical (alkali) and physical (dry etching plasma) treatments were used separately to augment compatibility of Guadua angustifolia fibers with various composite matrices. The influence of these treatments on the fibers’ performance, chemical composition, and surface morphology were analyzed. Statistical analysis indicated that alkali treatments reduced the tensile modulus of elasticity and strength of fibers by up to 40% and 20%, respectively, whereas plasma treatments maintain the fibers’ mechanical performance. FTIR spectroscopy revealed significant alterations in chemical composition due to alkali treatments, while plas-ma-treated fibers showed minimal changes. Surface examination through Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) revealed post-treatment modifications in both cases; alkali treatments served as a cleanser, eliminating lignin and hemicellulose from the fiber surface, whereas plasma treatments also produce rough surfaces. These results vali-date the impact of the treatments on the fiber mechanical performance, which opens up possibilities for using Guadua angustifolia fibers as an alternative reinforcement in composite manufacturing. © 2024 The Authors.
