Electrochemical characterization of Ti12Mo5Ta alloys in contact with saline medium

The electrochemical behaviours of unrecrystallized and recrystallized Ti12Mo5Ta alloys were compared with those of the unrecrystallized Ti12 Mo alloy and commercial pure titanium（cp-Ti）. Experiments were carried out using physiological 0.9% NaCl solution（pH 2.3） at 37 °C. Very low passive current densities（in order of 10-6 A/cm2） were obtained from the anodic polarization curves, indicating high resistances of all samples in acidified 0.9% Na Cl solution. Scanning electron microscopy（SEM） was employed to observe the surface morphology and all sample surfaces were identically corroded, no pitting, cracks, or other defects appeared on the sample surfaces after anodic potentiodynamic polarization tests. Equivalent circuit was used for modeling the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy（EIS） data, in order to characterize the sample surface and better understand the effect of Mo and Ta addition on the cp-Ti and the effect of recrystallization. The EIS results confirm that all titanium samples exhibit passivity in physiological 0.9% NaCl solution（pH 2.3） at open circuit potential（polarization resistance is around 105 Ω·cm2）. The corrosion resistance of these samples in physiological 0.9% NaCl solution（pH 2.3） at 37 °C is in the following order of recrystallized Ti12Mo5Ta〉 unrecrystallized Ti12Mo5Ta 〉 unrecrystallized Ti12Mo 〉 cp-Ti.

Overview and Comparison to Words of Antiquity Through Homeric Epics

This study aims to examine the relations between languages of antiquity and some words in Homer＇s epics, Iliad and Odyssey, that are considered the first written texts and important in terms of the richness of Greek vocabulary. Although the words in Homeric epics carry a value for ancient Anatolia, there are no studies in this field in our eotmtry. For this purpose, with the help of words we have, we will focus on：（a） bond of these words with Hittite, partially （b） some archaic qualities for some Latin words, developed later and also continued of some ground and phrases in the everyday life in the same region for centuries on the language of the people depending on the oral transmission. At the end of the study, we will discuss the changes of the words in philological level as well as in terms of the letter, sounds and meaning by used words in Homer＇s epics as will be explained in this study.

Cytotoxic effect of Rosa canina extract on human colon cancer cells through repression of telomerase expression

Rosa canina is a member of the genus Rosa that has long been used for medical objectives. Several studies have reported cytotoxic effects of different Rosa species, but there has been only limited investigation of the cytotoxic effect of R. canina. The purpose of the current study was to examine the potential effect of *** extract on cell viability, the cell cycle, apoptosis, and the expression of telomerase in human colon cancer(WiDr) cells. The cytotoxic effect of the extract was determined using MTT assay. The mechanism involved in the cytotoxic effect of the extract was then evaluated in terms of apoptosis and the cell cycle using flow cytometry. Mitochondrial membrane potential(MMP) was investigated using the fluorometric method, and expression levels of telomerase were studied using RT-PCR. R. canina extract exhibited a selective cytotoxic effect on WiDr cells compared with normal colon cells. The extract induced cell cycle arrest at the S phase and apoptosis via reduced MMP in WiDr cells. R. canina extract significantly repressed telomerase expressions at treatment times of 48 and 72 h in WiDr cells. Our results suggest that R. canina may have considerable potential for development as a novel natural product-based anticancer agent.

Objective:To isolate,identify,and evaluate a new angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor from Peperomia pellucida(L.)Kunth ***:A dried sample of Peperomia pellucida herb was successively macerated with n-hexane and ethyl *** ethyl acetate extract solution was evaporated to obtain the crude *** liquid column chromatography and thin layer chromatography were performed to obtain two pure ***,both compounds were elucidated and identified using the spectroscopic ***-converting enzyme inhibitory activity studies of both compounds were determined using angiotensin-converting enzyme kit WST-1 with spectrophotometer microplate reader 96-well at 450 nm ***:Two bioactive compounds were successfully isolated from Peperomia pellucida herb,including a new compound of 2,3,5-trimethoxy-9-(12,14,15-trimethoxybenzyl)-1 H-indene and pellucidin *** compounds demonstrated angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitory activity,with IC50 values of 72 μM(27.95 μg/mL)and 1 1μM(4.4 μg/mL),***:In the present study,two active angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors were successfully isolated and purified from Peperomia pellucida which is used as an antihypertensive in traditional medicine,and support its use as an angiotensin-converting enzyme-inhibiting drug.

Association of ezrin expression in intestinal and diffuse gastric carcinoma with clinicopathological parameters and tumor type

AIM： To investigate the correlation between ezrin expression and types of gastric carcinoma and clinicopathological variables.METHODS： We examined ezrin protein expression in 75 gastric carcinoma （53 intestinal types of adenocarcinoma, 22 diffuse types of carcinoma） tissues by immunohistochemistry. The results were compared with clinicopathological parameters such as tumor type, grade of tumor, clinical stage, presence of metastatic lymph node, and depth of invasion. RESULTS： Ezrin immunostaining was positive in 43 cases （81.1%） of intestinal type and in 9 （40.9%） cases of diffuse type adenocarcinomas （P 〈 0.001）. In gastric carcinomas, the expression of ezrin protein correlated with the status of H py/ori and survival. There was no correlation between expression of ezrin with TNM stage and histological grade of gastric carcinomas （P 〉 0.05）. CONCLUSION： The low expression of ezrin implicates the loss of adhesion in diffuse carcinomas. Furthermore, overexpression of ezrin in carcinomas with H pylori infection may be a genuine specific pathway in which Hpylori may cause/initiate gastric carcinoma.

Derivative Spectrophotometric and Isocratic High Performance Liquid Chromatographic Methods for Simultaneous Determination of Repaglinide and Metformin Hydrochloride in Pharmaceutical Preparations

In this study, a derivative spectrophotometric method and one HPLC method were developed and validated for analysis of anti-diabetic drugs, repaglinide (RPG) and metformine hydrochloride (MTF) in tablets. The spectrophotometric methods were based on zero-crossing first-derivative and fourth-derivative spectrophotometric method for simultaneous analysis of RPG (308 nm) and MTF (267 nm), respectively. Linear relationship between the absorbance at λmax and the drug concentration was found to be in the ranges of 5.0 - 50.0 μg·mL-1 for both RPG and MTF. The quantification limits for RPG and MTF were found to be 0.568 and 1.156 μg·mL-1, respectively. The detection limits were 0.170 and 0.347 μg·mL-1 for RPG and MTF, respectively. The second method is a rapid stability-indicating isocratic HPLC method developed for the determination of RPG and MTF. A linear response was observed within the concentration range of 5.0 - 50.0 μg·mL-1 for both RPG and MTF. The quantification limits for RPG and MTF were found to be 1.821 and 1.653 μg·mL-1, respectively. The detection limits were 0.601 and 0.545 μg·mL-1 for RPG and MTF, respectively. The proposed methods were successfully applied to the tablet analysis with good accuracy and precision.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between lower urinary tract symptoms （LUTSs）, erectile dysfunction （ED） and symptomatic late-onset hypogonadism （SLOH） in ageing men in the Aegean region of Turkey. Five hundred consecutive patients 〉40 years old who had been in a steady sexual relationship for the past 6 months and were admitted to one of six urology clinics were included in the study. Serum prostate-specific antigen and testosterone levels and urinary flow rates were measured. All patients filled out the International Prostate Symptom Score and Quality of Life （IPSS-QoL）, International Index of Erectile Function （IIEF） and Aging Males＇ Symptoms （AMS） scale forms. Of the patients, 23.9% had mild LUTSs, 53.3% had moderate LUTSs and 22.8% had severe LUTSs. The total testosterone level did not differ between groups. Additionally, 69.6% had ED. The presence of impotence increased with increasing LUTS severity. Symptomatic late-onset hypogonadism （AMS 〉27） was observed in 71.2% of the patients. The prevalence of severe hypogonadism symptoms increased with the IPSS scores. A correlation analysis revealed that all three questionnaire scores were significantly correlated. In conclusion, LUTS severity is an age-independent risk factor for ED and SLOH. LUTS severity and SLOH symptoms appear to have a strong link that requires etiological and biological clarification in future studies.

Mechanism of polymer adsorption on shale surfaces: Effect of polymer type and presence of monovalent and divalent salts

This paper studies the adsorption behavior of representative guar-based polymers onto the surface of source rock outcrop samples to provide a better picture of the interaction(s)of polymers with these *** samples from the Barnett,Eagle Ford,and Marcellus shales were collected,analyzed for mineralogy and total organic content,and then exposed to different polymer solutions under elevated temperature and moderately elevated *** of these polymer solutions were measured before and after exposure to the rock samples to establish a correlation between polymer adsorption and rock mineralogy and/or organic *** indicate a direct correlation between polymer adsorption and both rock *** polymers are shown to be more prone to adsorption onto the surface of the rock than non-ionic *** results from this work establish that fluid-rock interactions are significant and that further research regarding shale polymer interactions and its effects on hydrocarbon production is needed with representative downhole shale samples given the trends now shown with outcrop samples.

Clitoris metastasis from a retroperitoneal leiomyosarcoma: A case report

Leiomyosarcoma is a rare form of cancer commonly found in the retroperitoneum, uterus, stomach, small intestine and vascular tissue. Surgery with a wide margin of resection is the most effective treatment. Nevertheless, metastasis is common and generally occurs within the first 3 years. The liver and lungs are the most common sites of metastasis in leiomyosarcoma. Other sites of metastasis include bone, spleen, soft tissues and brain. Metastatic tumours of the clitoris are extremely rare. As cited in the literature, the most common cancers that metastasize to the clitoris are breast, bladder, renal and gastric. Here, we report a case of a clitoral mass in a 64-year-old woman who received an operation for retroperitoneal leiomyosarcoma 4 years prior. Mass resection was performed. The pathological diagnosis was a leiomyosarcoma metastasis. The patient also presented with brain and lung metastases at the time of the clitoral metastasis. This is the first case of clitoral and brain metastases originating from a retroperitoneal leiomyosarcoma.

Influence of catalytic systems on process of model object hydrogenation

On the basis of b-FeOOH,Fe(OA)_(3),Fe_(3)O_(4) iron and spherical catalysts NiO/SiO_(2),Fe_(2)O_(3)/SiO_(2) derived from slag waste coals of heating electrical stations,the hydrogenation of model polycyclic hydrocarbon at presence of nanodimensioned catalysts antracene was *** the example of conversion of anthracene,it was shown that upon release of hydrogenation of the product yield and degradation of polycyclic hydrocarbons in the hydrogenation,the mentioned catalyst systems appeared to be in the following order:nanoparticles b-FeOOH,Fe(OA)_(3) and Fe_(3)O_(4)[spherical catalysts NiO/SiO_(2),Fe_(2)O_(3)/SiO_(2)[commercial cobalt-molybdenum *** results showed that the catalysts studied are promising catalysts for the hydrogenation of polycyclic hydrocarbons and may be used for direct coal liquefaction.
