We present a new approach for predicting spatial phase signals originating from photothermally excited metallic nanoparticles of arbitrary shapes and *** heat emitted from such a nanoparticle affects the measured optical phase signal via changes in both the refractive index and thickness of the nanoparticle *** these particles can be bio-functionalized to bind certain biological cell components,they can be used for biomedical imaging with molecular specificity,as new nanoscopy labels,and for photothermal *** the ideal nanoparticle parameters requires a model that computes the thermal and phase distributions around the particle,thereby enabling more efficient phase imaging of plasmonic nanoparticles and avoiding trial-and-error experiments while using unsuitable *** proposed nonlinear model is the first to enable the prediction of phase signatures from nanoparticles with arbitrary *** model is based on a finite-volume method for geometry discretization and an implicit backward Euler method for solving the transient inhomogeneous heat equation,followed by calculation of the accumulative phase *** validate the model,we compared its results with experimental results obtained for gold nanorods of various concentrations,which we acquired using a custom-built wide-field interferometric phase microscopy system.

AIM:To evaluate pre-lung transplant acid reflux on p H-testing vs corresponding bolus reflux on multichannel intraluminal impedance(MII) to predict early allograft ***:This was a retrospective cohort study of lung transplant recipients who underwent pretransplant combined MII-p H-testing at a tertiary care center from January 2007 to November 2012. Patients with pre-transplant fundoplication were excluded. Time-to-event analysis was performed using a Cox proportional hazards model to assess associations between measures of reflux on MII-p H testing and early allograft injury. Area under the receiver operating characteristic(ROC) curve(c-statistic) of the Cox model was calculated to assess the predictive value of each reflux parameter for early allograft injury. Six p H-testing parameters and their corresponding MIImeasures were specified a priori. The p H parameters were upright,recumbent,and overall acid reflux exposure; elevated acid reflux exposure; total acid reflux episodes; and acid clearance time. The corresponding MII measures were upright,recumbent,and overall bolus reflux exposure; elevated bolus reflux exposure; total bolus reflux episodes; and bolus clearance ***:Thirty-two subjects(47% men,mean age:55 years old) met the inclusion criteria of the study. Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis(46.9%) repres e n t e d t h e m o s t c o m m o n p u l m o n a r y d i a g n o s i s leading to transplantation. Baseline demographics,pre-transplant cardiopulmonary function,number of lungs transplanted(unilateral vs bilateral),and posttransplant proton pump inhibitor use were similar between reflux severity groups. The area under the ROC curve,or c-statistic,of each acid reflux parameter on pre-transplant p H-testing was lower than its bolus reflux counterpart on MII in the prediction of early allograft injury. Mother-to-child-transmission of human immunodeficiency virus(HIV) is a primary cause of pediatric infections with HIV. Many of these infections involve women who were not tested early enough in pregnancy, or who didnot receive prevention services. HIV testing of pregnant women is considered to be one of the key strategies for preventing mother-to-child-transmission of HIV, but HIV testing rates among pregnant women in various countries remain suboptimal. Understanding the factors relating to women's willingness to be tested for HIV during pregnancy is critical for developing strategies to increase HIV testing rates among pregnant women. Extensive research points to various factors relating to women's willingness to be tested for HIV during pregnancy, and various recommendations aimed at improving testing rates among pregnant women have been suggested based on the research. In light of the goals set by the United Nations to reduce the rate of infants infected with HIV, it is necessary to summarize what is currently known regarding factors related to women's willingness to be tested for HIV during pregnancy. The purpose of this review is therefore to examine factors related to women's willingness to be tested for HIV during pregnancy, and to summarize recommendations for practice and further research.
