Soil properties and habitats determine the response of bacterial communities to agricultural wastewater irrigation

Increasing temperatures and variability of precipitation events due to climate change will lead in the future to higher irrigation demands in ***,the use of secondary treated wasterwater(tWW)could have consequences for the receiving soil environment and its resident microbial *** objective of this study was to characterize the importance of soil properties and habitats to the response of soil bacteria and archaea to irrigation with *** agricultural soils with contrasting textures(loamy sand or silt loam)and,for each,three variants differing in soil organic carbon and nitrogen,as generated by long-term fertilization,were *** each of these six soils,prokaryotic communities from two habitats,i.e.,root-free bulk soil and the rhizosphere of developing cucumber plants in the greenhouse,were *** were analyzed by the quantity and diversity of their polymerase chain reaction(PCR)-amplified 16S rRNA *** account for tWW-associated nutrient effects,potable water(PW)served as a *** sequence analysis showed that prokaryotic communities mainly consisted of bacteria(99.8%).Upon irrigation,regardless of the water quality,prokaryotic diversity declined,p H increased,and no bacterial growth was detected in bulk *** contrast,the growth of cucumbers was stimulated by tWW,indicating that plants were the main ***,strong responses were seen in the rhizosphere,suggesting an indirect effect of tWW by altered *** main bacterial responders to tWW were Proteobacteria,Bacteroidetes,Actinobacteria,and *** in bacterial communities due to tWW were less pronounced in all variants of the silt loam,indicating the importance of clay and soil organic carbon for buffering effects of tWW on soil bacterial ***,soil organic carbon and soil texture are important parameters that need to be considered when applying tWW in agriculture.

Polymorphisms in NF-κB,PXR,LXR,PPARγ and risk of inflammatory bowel disease

AIM:to investigate the contribution of polymorphisms in nuclear receptors to risk of inflammatory bowel disease(IBD) . MEtHODS:Genotypes of nuclear factor(NF) -κB(NFKB1) NFκB-94ins/del(rs28362491) ;peroxisome proliferatoractivated receptor(PPAR) -γ(PPARγ) PPARγPro12Ala(rs1801282) and C1431t(rs 3856806) ;pregnane X receptor(PXR) (NR1I2) PXR A-24381C(rs1523127) ,C8055t(2276707) ,and A7635G(rs 6785049) ;and liver X receptor(LXR) (NR1H2) LXR t-rs1405655-C and t-rs2695121-C were assessed in a Danish case-control study of 327 Crohn's disease patients,495 ulcerative colitis(UC) patients,and 779 healthy *** ratio(OR) and 95%CI were estimated by logistic regression models. RESULtS:the PXR A7635G variant,the PPARγPro12Ala and LXR t-rs2695121-C homozygous variant genotypes were associated with risk of UC(OR:1.31,95% CI:1.03-1.66,P=0.03,OR:2.30,95%CI:1.04-5.08,P=0.04,and OR:1.41,95%CI:1.00-1.98,P=0.05,respectively) compared to the corresponding homozygous wild-type *** never smokers,PXR A7635G and the LXR t-rs1405655-C and t-rs2695121-C variant genotypes were associated with risk of IBD(OR:1.41,95%CI:1.05-1.91,P=0.02,OR:1.63,95%CI:1.21-2.20,P=0.001,and OR:2.02,95%CI:1.36-2.99,P=0.0005,respectively) compared to the respective homozygous variant *** A7635G(rs6785049) variant genotype was associated with a higher risk of UC diagnosis before the age of 40 years and with a higher risk of extensive disease(OR:1.34,95%CI:1.03-1.75 and OR:2.49,95%CI:1.24-5.03,respectively) . CONCLUSION:Common PXR and LXR polymorphisms may contribute to risk of IBD,especially among never smokers.

A proteomic analysis of the effect of radiation therapy on wound healing in women reconstructed with the tRAM flap

the incidence of breast cancer is still increasing, and with improved cancer treatment, more women live longer with the side effects of their treatment. the response of normal tissue to radiation continues for years after the treatment is completed. the influence of radiotherapy on the outcome of breast reconstructtive surgery remains unpredictable. the combination of two surgical sites of which one is previously irradiated, is rarely encountered in humans and thus compiles a unique opportunity to study the implications of irradiation followed by surgery. the aim of this study was to examine the long-term effect of radiation therapy on the proteins expressed in the wound tissue after a breast reconstruction. ten patients were included in the study, all treated with radiotherapy after a mastectomy and breast reconstruction with a contralateral pedicled tRAM flap. Expanded poly-tetrafluoretylene polymer tubes were implanted for 10 days, subcutaneously, below the inframammary fold and below the donor site. the protein from the newly synthesized granulation tissue in the tubes was extracted and analyzed for differences in protein expression with 2D gel electrophoresis and mass spectrometry. A total of 676 proteins were detected;of these, 4 proteins changed significantly and were successfully identified. tPM4 and APOA4 from the radiation treated tissue were shown to be significantly decreased, whereas IGKC and VDAC1 were found to be significantly increased. the proteomic technique combined with the ePtFE tube wound model can elucidate some of the molecular alterations in the wound healing induced by radiation therapy. the protein modifications of tPM4, APOA4, IGKC and VDAC1 may influence the cell proliferation, apoptosis and the inflammation of the tissue repair process.

Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) was a pilot project for solving flood and drought problem in the northern part of Chao Phraya River basin, thailand. this part of thailand always faces flooding in rainy season and drought during dry season every year. the overexploitation of groundwater during dry season leads to continuously decline of water level in this area. In this project, the excessive surface water during rainy season was stored by injection of this treated surface water through recharge wells into the underground aquifers. this would serve to raise the water level, which can be extracted for use during the dry season. to assess the efficiency of the ASR process some tracers are required. the aim of this study is to prove the suitability of natural tracers to follow up the artificial recharge process;emphasis will be placed on Strontium (Sr) isotopic composition. the results showed that the change in 87Sr/86Sr ratios could be observed during an artificial recharge due to the different isotopic fingerprint of surface water and groundwater. However, the flow direction of the injected water cannot be clearly interpreted because of the limited number of monitoring wells, small distance between each monitoring well and the short duration of injection.

在Studsgaard和Ronhave试验地进行了18年麦秸与残茬翻混、麦秸与残茬焚烧处理。Studsgaard试验地土壤为壤质砂土,Ronhave土壤为砂壤土。1984年4月初取土样,经风干、过筛,用螺旋式超声和重力沉降法将各处理土壤粒级分为砂粒、粉粒和粘粒,分离后在40℃下干燥5天,将砂粒、粉粒和粘粒按土壤类型和处理分别混合为一个样本,对样本用6NHCl水解并测定各种氨基酸含量(不包括含硫氨基酸,但包括二氨基庚二酸)。氨基酸是用LKB Alpha Plus分析器和茚三酮法测定的,全N是用tecator全N分析器开氏法测得。测得数据表明:麦秸翻混处理不影响土壤颗粒大小的分布,但比麦秸焚烧处理增加全N量4～14％。

Comparing the size selectivity of a novel t90 mesh codend to two conventional codends in the northern shrimp(Pandalus borealis)trawl fishery

the size selectivity and usability of three codends were quantified and compared for the first time in the inshore Northern shrimp(Pandalus borealis)trawl fishery of Iceland using the covered codend method:a conventional diamond-mesh codend(t0),conventional square-mesh codend(t45),and a 90◦turned mesh codend(t90)constructed of four panels and with shortened lastridge ***,wanting to increase the average-individual size of captured shrimp,had requested the t90 codend to be compared with conventional codends for consideration in the *** showed that,on average,the t45 and t90 codends had better size selectivity than the t0 codend in terms of releasing individuals smaller than 13 mm carapace length(Minimum References Size;MRS).the t90 codend retained significantly less Northern shrimps between 9 and 19 mm than the t0 codend and between 15 and 19 mm than the t45 *** significant difference of size selectivity between t45 and t0 codends was *** three codends presented high retention ratios of Northern shrimps above MRS(>63%)for the population ***,the t0 codend was not effective at sorting out small Northern shrimps;at least 86%of Northern shrimps smaller than 13 mm were retained in the t0 codend if *** from t45 and t90 codends had a lower proportion of shrimp below *** discarding of undersized Northern shrimps is prohibited in Iceland and fishers wanted to catch on average larger shrimp,using the novel t90 codend would enable fishers to use their quotas more efficiently.

Isotope Dating of the Potash and Rock Salt Deposit at Bamnet Narong, NE-thailand

Bamnet Narong is located in northeastern thailand (Chaiyaphum Province). It is the largest salt mine in the country and has been mined for decades. the landscape in this part of thailand is characterised by a low plateau, which is called the Khorat Plateau. the plateau is divided into two basins by the Phu Phan Range, the Sakhon Nakhon Basin in the north and the Khorat Basin in the south. the analysed potashes and rock salts are deposited in the Maha Sarakham Formation, which represents the salt-bearing strata of the Khorat Basin. the stratigraphic age of this deposit has been debated since the late 1960’s. the assigned ages range from Mid-Cretaceous to Late Cretaceous and up to the Eocene. In this study different isotopic dating systems (Rb-Sr, Sr-Sr, K-Ar and K-Ca) were applied. the stratigraphic age for the time of deposition was confirmed to be Mid Cretaceous (Cenomanian). Furthermore, the homogeneity of the carnallites was investigated in order to trace a possible redistribution of rubidium.

Do U/Pb-SHRIMP Dating and Pb Stepwise Leaching (PbSL) Analyses Confirm the Lack of Precambrian Basement Outcrops in thailand?

U/Pb-SHRIMP dating and Pb stepwise leaching (PbSL) experiments on zircons and garnets, respectively have confirmed the lack of Precambrian outcrops within the crystalline basement of thailand. the obtained data for the high grade metamorphism show Indosinian ages ranging from 225 - 200 Ma as previously suggested for the vast majority of outcrops in NW-thailand ([1]?and references therein), as well as a small group of ages in the range of 445 Ma in the Lampang Province. Further, the age of a thermal imprint around 60 Ma was confirmed near Surat thani, Peninsular thailand, and only a few indications of older ages for the unknown source areas were detected in detrital components.

Elevated alanine aminotransferase activity is not associated with dyslipidemias,but related to insulin resistance and higher disease grades in non-diabetic non-alcoholic fatty liver disease

Objective:to explore demographic and metabolic factors associated with increased alanine aminotransferase(ALt)activity in non-diabetic non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)***:Overall 372 patients who consecutively attended to Gastroenterology Clinic of Baqiyatallah University of Medical Sciences,tehran,Iran awere diagnosed as NAFLD entered into *** criteria were having diabetes mellitus and fasting blood glucose over126 mg/dL,active hepatitis B virus infection,having hepatitis C virus positive serology,and to be under corticosteroid *** levels were considered pathologically high when it was over30 IU/L for men and over 19 IU/L for ***:Bivariate analyses using t test and chisquare test showed that patients with pathologically augmented ALt levels had significantly higher NAFLD grades in their ultrasonographic evaluations(P=0.003).Moreover,these patients represented significantly higher homeostatic model assessment levels(P=0.003),levels of serum insulin(P=0.002),fasting blood glucose(Pthe prevalence of insulin resistance was also higher in patients with increased serum ALt *** logistic regression models showed that ultrasonographic grading of NAFLD(P=0.027)and insulin resistance(P=0.013)were the only variables significantly associated with abnormal ALt ***:this study shows that the associations of increased ALt serum levels in NAFLD patients are different from what are supposed *** excluding diabetic patients from our population,we find that increased ALt levels are not associated with dyslipidemias but are independently associated with insulin resistance and NAFLD grading on ultrasonographic *** studies are needed to confirm our results.
