Enhanced performance of nano-sized SiC reinforced Al metal matrix nanocomposites synthesized through microwave sintering and hot extrusion techniques

In the present study, nano-sized SiC(0, 0.3, 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 vol%) reinforced aluminum(Al) metal matrix composites were fabricated by microwave sintering and hot extrusion techniques. The structural(XRD, SEm),mechanical(nanoindentation, compression, tensile) and thermal properties(co-efficient of thermal expansionCTE) of the developed Al-SiC nanocomposites were studied. The SEm/EDS mapping images show a homogeneous distribution of SiC nanoparticles into the Al matrix. A significant increase in the strength(compressive and tensile) of the Al-SiC nanocomposites with the addition of SiC content is observed. However,it is noticed that the ductility of Al-SiC nanocomposites decreases with increasing volume fraction of SiC. The thermal analysis indicates that CTE of Al-SiC nanocomposites decreases with the progressive addition of hard SiC nanoparticles. Overall, hot extruded Al 1.5 vol% SiC nanocomposites exhibited the best mechanical and thermal performance as compared to the other developed Al-SiC nanocomposites.

Bemisia tabaci adults from various host-plant species were collected from 31 regions across India.266 *** samples were first screened by RAPD-PCR to examine molecular variability and to select individuals with different ***-plant and region of collection were then used to select 25 individuals for PCR amplification and sequencing of their partial mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase subunit one（mtCOI）*** comparisons with mtCOI consensus sequences showed that the majority of these samples had 〈3.5% sequence divergence from groups currently termed Asia I,Asia II-5,Asia II-7,and Asia *** biotype-B *** from India clustered into the middle East-Asia minor 1 group.A new group of *** from Coimbatore,collected from pumpkin,was related most closely to the Asia I group（6.2% sequence divergence from the consensus Asia I sequence）.To increase our understanding of the epidemiology of tomato leaf curl disease（ToLCD）and the key *** genetic groups involved in virus spread,the indigenous Asia I and the exotic biotype-B population from South India were used to carry out transmission experiments using Tomato leaf curl Bangalore virus（ToLCBV）.The acquisition access periods（AAP）,inoculation access periods（IAP）,latent periods（LP）,and ToLCBV transmission efficiencies of the two populations were compared and the biotype-B had the more efficient transmission *** results are discussed in relation to recent changes in the epidemiology of tomato leaf curl disease in South India.

The augmentation in electricity demand,power system privatization as well as efficacy of renewable resources has paved the way for power system companies and researchers to exploit the field of grid connected distributed generation(DG)and its issues,islanding being a dominant *** research works have been conducted to mitigate the issues of islanding detection(ID).In context of this,the paper gives a comprehensive review of islanding issues,standard test systems,criteria and shifting of research trends in islanding detection methods(IDms).The significant contributions pertain to categorization of IDms,evaluation of non-detection zone(NDZ)for each test system,disquisition on evolution and advancement of IDms and its comparisons based on criteria such as NDZ,run on time,nuisance tripping percentage,applicability in multi DG system and implementation cost to draw out the strength and shortcomings of individual methods that will come to aid to the companies or researchers for establishing the applicability and appropriateness of such method for their concerned domain.

Destress blasting is a rockburst control technique where highly stressed rock is blasted to reduce the local stress and stiffness of the rock,thereby reducing its burst *** technique is commonly practiced in deep hard rock mines in burst prone developments,as well as in sill or crown pillars which become burst-prone as the orebody is ***-scale destressing is a variant of destress blasting where panels are created parallel to the orebody strike with a longhole,fanning blast pattern from cross cut drifts situated in the host *** aim of panel destressing is to reduce the stress concentration in the ore blocks or pillars to be *** paper focuses on the large-scale destress blasting program conducted at Vale's Copper Cliff mine(CCm)in Ontario,*** merits of panel destressing are examined through field measurements of mining induced stress changes in the *** destressing mechanism is simulated with a rock fragmentation factor(a)and stress reduction/dissipation factor(b).A 3D model is built and validated with measured induced stress *** is shown that the best correlation between the numerical model and field measurements is obtained when the combination of a and b indicates that the blast causes high fragmentation(a=0.05)and high stress release(b=0.95)in the destress *** is demonstrated that the burst proneness of the ore blocks in the panel stress shadow is reduced in terms of the brittle shear ratio(BSR)and the burst potential index(BPI).

AIm To see how patterns of care changed over time,and how institution type effected these *** A retrospective analysis was performed using the National Cancer Database,looking at all patients that were diagnosed with rectal cancer from 1998 to 2011. We tested differences in rates of treatment and stage migration using χ~2 tests and logistic regression models. RESULTS A review of ninety thousand five hundred and ninety four subjects underwent multimodality therapy for cancer of the rectum. Staging and response to treatment varied greatly between centers. Forty-six percent of the time staging was missing in academic practices,vs fiftyfour percent of the time in community centers(P mia,whereas only fifteen percent were down-staged and 8% up-staged in community practices(P ment varied greatly. Fifty-one percent received therapy before surgery in academic centers in 1998. Thirty-nine percent followed this pattern in the same year in the community(P mic centers,vs eighty-four percent in the community(P mia,although an increase was seen in both center types. CONCLUSION From the study dates of 1998 to 2011,preoperative treatment with radiation has been on the rise. There is certainly an increased rate of use of radiation in academia,however,this trend is also seen in the community. Practice patterns have evolved over time,although rates of assigning clinical stage are grossly underreported prior to initiation of preoperative therapy.

Solid-liquid extraction of gadolinium was investigated from phosphoric acid medium using commercial amino phosphonic acid resin, Tulsion CH-93. The experimental conditions studied included equilibration time, acid concentration, mass of the resin, metal concentration, loading and elution. The percent extraction of Gd（Ⅲ） was studied as a function of phosphoric acid （0.05-3 mol/L） using Tulsion CH-93 resin. The corresponding lgD vs. equilibrium pH plot gave straight line with a slope of 1.8. The percent extraction decreased with acid co centration increasing, conforming ion exchange mechanism. Under observed experimental conditions the loading capacity of Tulsion CH-93 for gadolinium was 10.6 mg/g. Among several eluants screened, the quantitative elution of Gd（III） from loaded Tulsion CH-93 was obtained with ammonium oxalate （0.15 mol/L）. The extraction behavior of commonly associated metals with gadolinium was studied as a function of phosphoric acid concentration. Tulsion CH-93 resin showed selective extraction towards heavy rare earths （Lu and Yb） which could be separated from other rare earths at 3 mol/L H3PO4, similar to wet phosphoric acid （3-5 mol/L）. On the other hand Gd（Ⅲ） and other rare earths were studied with chelating resin Tulsion CH-90. Light rare earths were highly extracted and these could be separated from heavy rare earths and Gd.

In this present study, we reported broccoli （Brassica oleracea L.） as a potential candidate for the synthesis of gold and silver nanoparticles （NPs） in green chemistry method. The synthesized metal nanoparticles are evaluated their antimicrobial efficacy against different human pathogenic organisms. The physico-chemical properties of gold nanoparticles were analyzed using different analytical techniques such as a UV-Vis spectrophotometer, Field Emission Scanning Electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and a Fourier Transform Infrared spectrophotometer. In addition, gold and silver NP antimicrobial efficacy was checked by disc diffusion assay. UV-Vis color intensity of the nanoparticles was shown at 540 and 450 nm for gold and silver nanoparticles respectively. Higher magnification of the Field Emission Scanning Electron microscopy image shows the variable morphology of the gold nanoparticles such as spherical, rod and triangular shapes and silver nanoparticles were seen in spherical shapes. The average spherical size of the particles was observed in 24- 38 nm for gold and 30-45 nm for silver NPs. X-ray diffraction pattern confirmed the presence of gold nanopartides and silver nanoparticles which were crystalline in nature. Additionally, the functional metabolites were identified by the Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy. IR spectra revealed phenols, alcohols, aldehydes （sugar moieties）, vitamins and proteins are present in the broccoli extract which are accountable to synthesize the nanoparticles. The synthesized gold and silver NPs inhibited the growth of the tested bacterial and fungal pathogens at the concentration of 50 μg/mL respectively. In addition, broccoli mediated gold and silver nanoparticles have shown potent antimicrobial activity against human pathogens.

Due to the characteristic emission of phosphors,phosphor-converted LEDs have been employed to provide the requisite light sources for indoor plant growth in the optical agricultural ***,we prepared a series of mn^(2+)co-doped NaSrB5 O9:Dy^(3+)phosphors via a solid-state reaction *** phosphors have significant three-band emissions at 467 nm(blue region),606 nm(orange region),and765 nm(far-red region),ascribed to the^(4)F_(9/2)-^(6)H_(15/2)and 4 F9/2-6 H13/2 transitions of the Dy^(3+)ions and the^(4)T_(1g)(G)-^(6)A_(1g)(S)spin-forbidden transition of the mn^(2+)ions,respectively,when excited by light of 376 nm(near-UV region).The co-dopant in the host material facilitates tunable photoluminescence(PL)due to energy transfer from the Dy^(3+)ions to the mn^(2+)*** three emission peaks from the prepared phosphors well match with the absorption spectra of the photosynthesis pigments of plants,chlorophyll and phytochrome,which can absorb blue(400-500 nm),orange-red(550-700 nm),and infrared(IR)radiation,indicating that these phosphors have potential applications in the fabrication of plant-growth *** to the PL studies,the structure of the phosphors was determined by X-ray diffraction,refined by Rietveld method and chemically quantified by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.
